I stayed in Lynmouth for 3 days recently and this lovely traditional pub was one of my 'locals' for the duration. A terrific atmosphere on the Thursday as it seemed all the World and his Wife were in. Great selection of ales and ciders. I ate here earlier, fish n chips, which were excellent. A great pub in Lynmouth.

Wow! What a pity that I found this on our last night... it was outstanding. I had the Sea Shanty and it was an amazing meal. Well priced and a good atmosphere with comfortable chairs. Staff were very helpful and service was quick. A "do not miss" place for dinner. NOTE: I did NOT stay at the Bath Hotel. Response from owner is obviously rushed and misleading. I had dinner. I stayed at The Rock House.

We went here here last year 8/23 and had the sea food platter which was great! We looked forward to coming back to enjoy it again but how disappointed we would be... The portion size is much smaller with them changing the crab pot for a claw. They served mussels without bread, which is beyond me: the point of the bread is to soak up that delicious salty cream sauce after but for some reason they want you to pay an extra £4.50 for a couple pieces of bread. The meal already costs £25, for heavens sakes the least you expect is a couple pieces of bread to soak up the sauce. Very disappointed.

Not a nice find. The place is ok , the atmosphere is really underwhelming from the artificial lighting to the view of the street! The waiters are really uneducated about the food experience (and drinks) which are serving, not so surprising because the food is really overpriced for what is really quite basic. To end the price is really expensive!Really an experience not to repeat!

The pub is lovely and very enjoyable. If you happen to be in the area of an evening, its definitely worth pulling up a chair and enjoying the view and atmosphere. And I'd like to add, yes, it would be a nice thing to commemorate S.T.Coleridges with a plaque, but that doesnt mean this lovely, helpful and friendly establishment needs to lose 3 stars over a disgruntled poetry student. 5/5 for the Ancient Mariner. 2/5 to the student.

As a poetry student I was very disappointed and also astonished that, despite the name being taken from Coleridge's most famous poem, the pub had no mention of his poem other than one tiny little plaque with the title and the poet's name which was stuck behind a light and barely noticeable. How uncultured, uncultivated and disrespectful to borrow a great poem's name and not even give a proper mention of it or it's famous author anywhere in the pub. Coleridge has strong connections with Lynmouth and this should have been mentioned. The whole poem should have been on display on the wall with a picture of Coleridge beside it, preferably right as you come in the door or above the bar!!

We came as a big group, and were accommodated very well on a nice big table in the center of the room next to the hotel entrance. I had the ploughman's which tasted fantastic. Good quality ingredients, and a nice big portion to keep you going for the rest of the day. I then had créme brulée for dessert, the topping wasn't too hard, nor too soft, it was just right. And the ice cream it was served with was of a great quality. Service was friendly and the food came out quite fast too. Would done again.

On previous visits they had a good tasty selection of vegan food like tofish and vegan lobster which were lovely. The menu has recently changed and now the only options were spinach and pea burger or roasted beetroot. Amazing food. It really is. The only reason for marking down Re service and atmosphere is that there was only one member of staff behind the bar and one serving the food. It did create bit of delay in getting served and plates weren't cleared very quickly. Please don't let this put you off though, the food is WELL WORTH it. This pub is steeped in maritime history as the name may suggest. It's a great location right on the water front and the roaring fire was most welcoming on a cold winters day. We initially went in for a quick afternoon tipple but pretty quickly decided to book and have dinner later in the evening due to the menu that was on offer. Thanks to Sandra and her team for making us feel really welcome and for the excellent service we received when having dinner. The food was of a good standard, the scotch egg starter we shared was delicious the lamb and dumplings stew and the fish pie mains we had tasted as good as it read on the menu, genourous helpings as well! Over all a great pub experience, lots of memorabilia to look at and the impromptu sea shanty singers session capped of a really immersive experience.

Not much ambience on a Monday evening in October. Menu seemed fairly good, but unfortunately, the food did not live up to expectation. The fried fish was particularly greasy; the spinach and pea burger on the other hand was as dry as a bone. Then we had the salty locals effing and jeffing by us in the bar and someone emerging from the kitchen to moan and joke with them about cooking vegan food (yeah, that would be us mate).
