Captain Jacks in North Devon

Great service and great food. The staff were super friendly and also pet friendly too. They made sure my dog had water and gave him treats. The food was really good and we had a generous portion too. I would definitely recommend a visit. We sat outside and there was plenty of room but the staff didn’t forget about us and checked we were all ok…including the dog 😊

After visiting Captain Jack's in 2023, we were not disappointed on our return visit! The pub decor is great with a good amount of space indoors and outside, the beer is good and the food tasty! Staff are friendly and make tourists feel welcome! A great visit for either lunch or an evening meal!

There is seating inside and out. Most people were sitting outside as the weather was good. If you go round the back there are toilets with 1 step up, the width of the toilet is the width of the door. There could be more toilets, not sure where. The meals we had were hot. The staff were friendly and helpful. There is a small car park at the rear.

Great change of scenery, ended up with a street food menu which was a pleasant surprise to us. Drinks were good, staff were nice

Nice big place, food wasn't as good as I thought it maybe. Starters seemed to be in my opinion to be microwaved. Steamed gyoza shouldn't have crispy edges. Chips were good.

Unfortunately had a terrible experience here. Ordered food at the bar (world food special), was told 45 minute wait so paid for food and ordered a pint while we waited. 45 minutes later, was told they’d run out of food. Got a refund and apology but left very hungry with no alternative options as everywhere else closed by now. Cannot understand how an establishment could not know they didn’t have enough food. Won’t revisit sadly, as it looks like it could have been a nice place.

Good god what happened. This place used to have great food, atmosphere and drink selection. Went in poor vegetarian choice, very quiet, and changes to drinks available so not much option. Didn't eat this time as choices poor

Came here as The Red Barn was full. Glad we did. Lots of seating outside and the food was fantastic. Average of about £15 a head but well worth it in my opinion. It was on a Friday and food was served from 1730. Definitely a revisit in the future

Popped in for a bite to eat one lunch time, service amazing and food great, larger than expected portions. Definitely recommend.

Love this place. Typical seaside pub. . Lots of wood and nautical themed. Good ales on, was pretty quiet when we visited so food was quick and hot. Excellent quality . Staff friendly and attentive

Didn't eat here but we had lovely drinks in the dog friendly beer garden. So sunny and lovely mix of all ages. Really nice place. Food did look lovely too

This is the first time we have come across Captain Jacks in all the years coming to Woolacombe. What can i say what a beautiful Pub the garden was a lush sun trap and loads of seating. The staff were very friendly from the first moment we arrived. They even loved our bulldog Elsa Dog treats behind the bar and plenty of dog bowls to go round. We were only down for a weekend but went in a few times our sort of pub where we could just relax. Good food menu on offer as well. High recommend giving it a visit.

We used Trip advisor to find a restaurant in Woolcombe and this one looked ideal for 3 of us plus 2yr old... so we managed to park on the road next to it and walked in... We liked the look and the signage outside... Anyway went in main area and walked towards bar and saw some tables to sit and eat at... just as we`re about to sit down the lady at the bar told us there was no food being served tonight, (no reason why and my gut is wasn`t interested and wanted us out of there).. so we all turned around and did "the walk of shame" past the locals... I can appreciate they may have had an issue that night, but was not impressed by the bar lady who just seemed to not be bothered and said nothing but we`re not serving tonight (think she even looked up for more than 2 seconds)..... we checked the website which says it served food and facebook site before and no mention of an issue... not sure what happened but not family friend that night... Shame really as pub looked okay to us

Situated in woolacombe up the side street next to the amusements at the end,first time here as we normally go to the red barn. Drinks are much cheaper here than the red barn. The beer garden is set in a court yard with comfortable,ample seating.there is also free pool and they also have live music nights. If your a rum drinker they have lots of different rums to try. Music playing I the background while you drink and socialise outside. I really recommend you pay Captain Jack's a visit. It used to be a farmhouse,the oldest building in woolacombe. Lots of history.

Quick friendly efficient service. Great choice of food and drinks, well cooked. Lots of space. Just walk in.

My favourite bar ever! It hasn't changed since the 90's ...just love the vibe. If you come to Woolacombe then you simply have to have a drink and some food here. Shoot some pool, tunes on the juke box, cosy, chilled and wonderful!

A lovely place to visit if you fancy a cold drink and a tasty meal after a long walk on the beach Staff were lovely with plenty of tables to choose. They have a pool table live music in the garden there and they're dog friendly as well fantastic pub

I went here with my family a year or so ago and 2 years before that and I loved the atmosphere, the team were lovely and friendly. The food was brilliant! I’m gutted that I’ve come from wales to visit again and it’s closed for maintenance until the 10th Feb. Hope to try visit again next year now 🤞

Very friendly local pub, great service

My husband and I were staying in Ilfracombe last week. We thought we would visit Captain Jacks for my birthday following the reviews. The menu looked good on the website. When we arrived we were shocked to see it closed. Nothing was noted on their website to state it was closed. Extremely annoying and poor

We went to this place each day on our October holiday and it’s so great to have. Amazing atmosphere, lovely people, great food, a free pool table and the best cider I’ve ever had (Devon Mist). It feels like a Pirates Of The Carribean pub in a way and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Food was good, the bar is dog friendly and as we were leaving a band was setting up.

Very disappointed how locals push to the front of the Que to get served. We took our custom to Bar Electric who were far more welcoming. Not a very good business model

Banging food! We went for a Sunday roast (I had a child’s portion as I don’t eat as much as my partner) both plates were massive with plenty of veg. Roasties were also cooked to perfection. 10/10 Service was also spot on. Great atmosphere.

Good choice of beers and loved the background music. Dog freindly and staff very freindly.

Great place to eat in or outdoors. Been here 3 times in a week and couldn't fault it. The food was great chip were some of the best I've had and I've had a few chips in my time with a waistline to prove it! Good atmosphere and cheerful staff. I know where to come next year. Well done to all at Captain Jack's.

5 of us called in last night for a meal. I was told immediately I can’t play pool with my youngest as under 16s not allowed to use the table. Finished our drinks and immediately left. Went to the Red Barn and spent roughly £100 on food they missed out on.

We found ourselves in Woolacombe for the afternoon and fancied a break for the walking. We saw signs for Captain Jacks Bar. On first impressions, this is a great little pub with lots of atmosphere. It was a sunny day, so the beer garden was busy, which was no problem as we sat inside. The only issue was the live band they had playing. It was very loud and was a person with a fiddle. The noise went through me! Because of this, we only stayed for one drink.

Pint of larger £8.50 glass wine £8.25 ripping tourist off food fair had a mixed meat roast to which you pay £17.50 and have to pay extra for a Yorkshire pudding as it only free with a beef roast if you don’t want to be ripped off AVOID captain jacks as it’s ripping tourist off

This pub has a large restaurant area at the back, it's spacious with lots of seating choices, the decor is pirate themed naturally! The menu is varied with something for everyone, I would say affordable pub classics. It can get rowdy in the bar, hence 4* for atmosphere. There is a side entrance though, you don't have to walk through the pub to get to the restaurant.

Great place we found for lunch whilst having a stroll around Woolacombe with the dogs. Everything was great the only slight negative from a personal point of view was beer choice as i like a cask and only proper job available which i fancied a change from so opted for a cider. This would not deter me from returning if in the area as everything else was excellent and the place is really quirky.

First time eating at captain jacks. Very impressive place.! Staff are very good at what they do, great chilled out vibe about the place and the food, well I only had the burger but what a burger it was.! Full of flavour, cooked perfectly, even the salad garnish was tasty.! Will be eating here again for sure. Highly recommend this place

The outside area is amazing. Unfortunately, the bench tables inside are very uncomfortable. Overall, it was a nice location with a nice embiance, just a shame about some of the prices.

The garden space is lovely the indoor is very traditional, the benches inside are uncomfortable. Although the food looked nice I didn't eat there so I can't comment on that. I paid £12.40 for 2 pints of San Miguel and £5 for portion of chips.

Service was a little slow but the food made up for the wait

Really great pub with a huge selection of drinks & food. Dog friendly & good amount of seating both in & outside. Really recommend for a post beach day dinner.

Had a very nice lunch here. The sandwich was perfect. The garden area is well kept and with the sunny weather it was overall a very good experience.

Amazing place with the coolest bartender ever. Apart from that, you can play free pool and have part of really nice stories of the places. P.s: I love the Captain Jacks story. I never heard it before. Definitely, we will come back.

We had the sharing fish platter, but no prawns as per the menu but it was nice. Good atmosphere, good selection of drinks.

Great pub very interesting decor we went a couple of lunchtimes. We had our little dog with us and was welcome. There was water for her too.

What an amazing night we had in here last Wednesday. Met some great people and had a lot of fun. The guy behind the bar was awesome. Looking forward to going again soon.

After a long walk a pint was really needed, glad to find Captain Jack open as not many places are open in Woolacombe on a grey January Sunday.. And the pool table was free and free..

We loved Captain Jacks! This was our first visit here and will be visiting again many more times. Food was excellent and good size portions. Superb selection of drinks and all at expected prices. The decor is really nice and creates a really chilled out atmosphere. Great service from the guy at the bar, thank you.

Nice little pub in Woolacombe. We arrived into Woolacoombe early evening on a Friday to find the town pretty much closed! Especially, and surprisingly the Chippy. After a quick wander we came across Captain Jack's. Despite the early hour, it was only eight o'clock the kitchen was closed but given that there was 10 of us the the staff bent over backwards to look after us. They were lovely. The food was very puby but excellent quality, there wasn't a disappointed person amongst us. Fair play to Captain Jack's, and well done to the lovely staff.

Lovely friendly place good food I always return

Absolutely love it. Walked in the door and asked for a " Hunters chicken ", as advertised on the window outside. And" Joe" the barmaid got it sorted for me and a curry for the other half. And a lovely pint of " Mena du" into the bargain. Worth every penny. Will definitely be back and looking at booking a room at the Woolacombe Bay Hotel next year.. a beautiful little town/ village. Fantastic beach ( spent an hour just watching the surfers in the surf ). All in all... an excellent visit.

Old style pub, found by chance. The food was good, I'd recommend the chilli beef on chips, topped with mature cheese and jalapeños, very tasty. My wife had the cod and chips; the batter was crisp (not burnt, not soggy) the fish was firm and tasty. The atmosphere was lively and friendly, which was down to the two guys running it that night. I would recommend a vist to captain Jack's 👍

Not sure how there are so many 4 star reviews. Not expensive. I would say perfect price considering the excellent quality in food. Home made burgers, super curry (warming spice) and massive hunters chicken. Have to comment on the side salad being a great portion size too. It costs so little do go the extra mile and this place does it in spades. Service was lovely and serving local beers. Please support this place so it continues to be here for years to come.

We arrived after finding out, everywhere was fully booked. Staff were friendly. Took our orders & paid for them, at the bar. Plenty of choices in where to sit. Accommodated a table for 7. Food was nice, and big portion's. Only noticed the specials board, once we were sat outside. So would have been nice to have had the choice, when ordering. Otherwise a nice meal out.
