It’s a great village pub, but needs refreshed management. Half the time we come it is closed, despite what the Facebook or TripAdviser page states. They need good social media and some visionary ownership. How about a music night, a quiz night, a curry night, simple inexpensive stuff. Something. But at least be open!

Worst customer service I have ever experienced. Researched the pub for a one night stay and see it advertised on a number of websites it was dog friendly. However on arriving was told I was wrong and the owner suggested I leave my dog in the car park in the car overnight. I have never been dealt with in such a disgusting and unprofessional manner. No empathy at the 3 hour drive we’d just done & was told that it wasn’t important that my companion was disabled. I’m complete denial that it’s advertised as dog friendly - photos attached.

My wife and I stayed here for one night, I’m glad it was only one night, the website boasted a double room, cricket themed. The room was just big enough for a single bed, never mind a double. We were squeezed into the smallest room. Compact is an understatement. Only cricket theme as a picture above the bed. Th toilet and shower was so small. The sink was a closet toilet sink. No room to wash properly in the shower, using the toilet ran the risk of not being able to sit straight. The room was like a sauna, with no AC or fan to cool down. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Very poor and not worth the money!!!!!

We were a bit disappointed that most of their menu consists of burgers (we get enough burgers in America). But my husband's burger was tall scrumptious. He says it was top rate. I got the vegetarian lasagne. Large plate of food all wonderful. Then we had the full English breakfast in the morning. Superb.

We stayed 1 night while visiting Oxford for the football match Oxford v AFC Wimbledon. Immaculate big room and big shower room. Very friendly welcoming staff and a very well cooked and presented breakfast. Plenty of choice of cereal, fruit juices and jams etc, for toast and very nice filter coffee which you could help yourself to. Would certainly recommend and visit again.

Recently under new management. If you like fried food straight from a packet - this is the ‘restaurant’ for you. Not the gourmet pub it was a few years’ ago. No vegetarian options let alone vegan ones - was just offered a Sunday roast without the meat! Staff pleasant when got their attention but were hassled and unfocussed. Sad to see what was once a welcoming pub with great food turn into an expensive unpleasant experience.

Arrived on Saturday to check in, bar lady was pleasant but when asked about the room a lady sat doing book work ( I assume landlady) just said its 'fine' which I thought was odd and not selling the place very well? The room in fact was quite good and clean, a few small wear and tear elements but nothing to worry about. We went out for the day then returned back to the pub for drinks before turning in for the night. Note we arrived back into the pub at 9.45 to order some drinks to be told by the lad behind the bar to say he had called lad orders but did very begrudgingly to serve my husband and friend a drink. He did say it's what they do in the country? We actually live in the country but failed to point out we knew different, I think he thought we were city folk who did have a clue! After the swift drink we went to bed and so did the lad and several of his friends decided to have more activities in the adjoining staff quarters. To say it was very noisy and went on till past midnight till my husband had to say 'something ' it did quiten down then. A bad night's sleep. Breakfast the next day was of good quality but my vegetarian breakfast lacked imagination. Don't think we will return!

We regularly have our granddaughter to stay - but she lives in London and we're near Worcester. We are therefore keen to find somewhere for her hand-over. Having tried many places, we were impressed with the Bat & Ball. We had a lovely Sunday lunch and felt comfortable and well looked after. The roast beef & roast chicken went down a treat - being presented interestingly with lots of vegetables nicely presented. That said, I would prefer the tops to be cut off the carrots & parsnips so as to avoid having savoury grit in my mouth. That is the only negative. It's not cheap, but the quality of the food is worth the price. The service was good as was the wines we tried by the glass. Theis pub is a little difficult to find, but worth the effort. We'll be back.

Recently stayed at the Bat and Ball Inn for a family wedding. On the way home we decided that there were some pros and (a few) cons....PRO’s:*Free parking onsite.*Good, quiet location with good travel links.*Had enough rooms to accommodate most of our family! *Staff seemed friendly enough. *Had fresh towels each day of our stay.CONS:*Definitely the cleanliness - there were cobwebs everywhere, limescale on taps and shower head etc. I looked under the bed and saw LOTS of dust.*Overall finish is poor - the decor is drab and dated, we only had one working lamp (the other one the bulb was missing), very limited channels on tv and the clock wasn’t working. Claims to have free WiFi but unable to access network despite multiple attempts. All this ‘little stuff’ could be easily sorted and would have increased the comfort in our stay.*Breakfast was nice and seemed good quality. However, you don’t seem to get any ‘choice’ on breakfasts options (at least we weren’t told any) - you either have a breakfast or you didn’t. No extras offered such as toast (you get 1 x slice pp with breakfast).Overall, the location worked well for us and we were pleased to be staying in the same place as the rest of our family. However, don’t really feel it’s worth the money and most likely won’t be back until improvements are made.

Clean linens, clean towels, clean loo, so we got the basics. Otherwise, most surfaces in the room had a thick coating of dust, bathroom could have been cleaner too. Bed was very comfortable and we slept well. Breakfast was disappointing - I added “vegetarian” to the special request on the booking, but was told there were no veggie sausages, also no hash browns/similar, no brown sauce, no choice offered of white or brown toast. I went for the scrambled eggs but these arrived not cooked through. Unfortunately no-one asked how our breakfast was or how our stay was when we checked out. We paid £90 for a TINY double - we’ve stayed in much bigger and nicer places in the region for similar money.Tip - if thinking of staying here, search for reviews that include the word “stay”, otherwise you get the restaurant reviews, which are fab. The restaurant looks lovely.

Nunca un lugar que tuve que producir excelente comida sobresaliente, pero en general fue una buena comida.Oh, como han cambiado las cosas. No fue una noche muy ocupada, pero todo parecía demasiado para ellos. No había muchos comensales.

No problem with the pub it met all expectations but beware if you need to use a cab. The hotel called one for us and even though it is an Oxford firm the driver ...Steve I believe...was local. We were dreadfully overcharged by the driver, £20 for a 2.7 mile, 7 minute ride!! The return ride organised by the restaurant was half that price! Etiqueta 95 precio! We visited with friends one very cold Friday evening and found the atmosphere cosy and pleasant. The service was very good and the food delicious, produced by an imaginative chef. They have focussed more on what they do well and I am very pleased to report that they still do it very well.Their trademark burgers are still fantastic although they have removed the options on the menu for additional fillings. However you can still ask for extra things to be added to the plate! I had the grilled plaice which was excellent. Hints of the citrus in the potatoes, fennel and samphire adding flavour and colour to the dish. All round really good. Their are options for vegetarians but the menu does not show vegan options. However, if you ask they can rustle up something that is vegan-friendly and tasty!

We live close to Cuddesden and we heard a new chef Pat Smith had moved into the Bat and Ball. I had heard about him before in another pub Oxford so as it was close to us we thought we would see if he was as good as his reputation. Well I was not disappointed, I was blown away by the plates put in front of us.......presentation akin to Top Masterchef dishes a delight to the eye with aromas to entice your taste buds. I selected the French onion soup starter from a selection of six choices, fairly ordinary you might say by name.....but let me assure you it was a delight by taste!! Main course choice was an adventure for me....48hr Brisket on a smoked creamed mash, glazed carrots and a balsamic grilled shallot....this was another OMG moment, the Smoked Mash was a delight to my taste buds smooth and silky with a gentle hint of smoke running through the mash. If I could find fault with the food it would be that it was so nice I couldn't manage anything more than the delicious selection of ice cream....If you are looking for cosy pub restaurant for a date night, birthday celebration, or just a treat you deserve like we were looking for, well I have found it ! a place I'll go back to!!

Me, my boyfriend and dad visited The Bat & Ball on Saturday evening and it was wonderful visit! Greeted by friendly, helpful staff we were seated between the main restaurant and bar, it's a great spot because it's relaxing but you still get the buzz and atmosphere from the bar area. We ordered the French onion soup, torched mackerel and heritage beetroots and goats cheese to start. All were presented beautifully and all completely delicious. The French onion soup had chunks of tender salt beef in and topped with crispy gruyere croutes, my dad haven eaten many onion soups in his life described this as the best he's ever had. Also saying he'd choose it as his death row meal. So it really was something special although very rich, so if you're having this as a starter I'd recommend ordering a lighter main course. The mackerel starter was stunning, light and fresh. The apple and cucumber work perfecting to making a really refreshing dish and the spice of the horseradish yoghurt really pulls the dish together. A great starter if you're choosing one of the richer mains. The beetroot starter was also wonderful! Perfect for this time of year a variety of heritage beetroots, pickled and salt baked, with a beautifully sweet apple ketchup and creamy goats cheese. This dish had everything you'd want in a starter, earthy, creamy, nutty, sweet, salty and sour. All of us chose quite rich main courses. The 48hr brisket, wild mushroom risotto and the burger. The wild mushroom risotto was delicious, the rice still had a bite and it was wonderfully creamy. Seasoned perfectly each bite was a delight. Nutty wild mushrooms scattered over the top and celeriac crisps to add texture. It's the best risotto I've eaten. The 48hr beef brisket was served with a smoked mash, which was something a bit different but was so amazing, the flavour is subtle but delicious, it also comes with a balsamic shallot, roasted carrot, port jus and allium oil. All of it worked so well together it really is as special as it sounds. The burger is cooked perfectly with a wonderful 'big mac' style burger sauce. Delicious pub grub done well, served with crispy fries. We managed to squeeze in one dessert to share! We chose the yoghurt and blackberry pannacotta, it comes with compressed apple, apple sorbet, honeycomb, blackberries and blackberry gel.Soft pannacotta melted in the mouth, with tart blackberry and refreshing apple the combination was delicious and somehow managed to feel indulgent but light. A beautiful finish to a wonderful meal!I'd highly recommend The Bat & Ball to anyone! Great service and fantastic food, I can't wait to return!

This pub has really up'd its food having last visited a year ish ago. The food we had last night was phenomenal. There are still pub classics available but the mains are a level up and defo aimed at 'foodies', yet still prices reasonably. Friendly relaxed atmosphere, professional staff, good selection of beers, wines and gins. I imagine this place being an ideal date night out of the city - we'll defiantly returning and making this place our 'date night pub'

This is a village pub where everyone enjoys themselves. Although small, the atmosphere is relaxed, the food is excellent, and the service is timely. We gave this restaurant the ultimate compliment by returning a second night. We highly recommend this friendly pub,

My friend and I visited last night for dinner. We didn't have a booking but rang just before and were told if we could get there quickly we could be accommodated. Were given a lovely table and a friendly, polite welcome. Neither of us eat meat but my friend eats fish but there were several options available. The waiting staff were very accommodating, when I raised concern that I didn't think I liked samphire I was immediately given a substitute of cabbage. We ordered the halloumi salad and bruscetta as starters and garlic breqe as a side, followed by the pan fried salmon and potato and courgette rosti and a chocolate mousse to finish. We enjoyed every part of it immensely, it was all cooked and seasoned to perfection and presentation was excellent. I would definately recommend it! The ambience is a lovely mix of locals and diners but it's all very welcoming. If they start doing veggie roasts on a Sunday I would imagine we will become regulars!

This is our regular and we've been eating here for years. There was a slight oscillation in quality a while ago but under the current team this pub is going from strength to strength. Today was exceptional. This pub is going through a purple patch: good straightforward seasonally appropriate food with interesting specials great welcome and some splendid beers wines and spirits (not least a good selection of gins for the Mrs). Mrs M had mushroom risotto which was as creamy and rich as she has eaten in Milan Others had the Cajun Chicken burger with bacon and skinny fries which is a good portion of chicken with a crisp spicy crust and lettuce tomatoes cheese and the bacon while another had a perfectly cooked minute steak with crisp skinny fries and a well dressed salad. Our eldest, a vegetarian, had the delicious and summery bruschetta with mozzarella and heritage tomatoes. The attached photographs show the excellent presentation. We sat outside with an umbrella to protect us from the sun and easy access for the children to play on the village recreation ground. The restaurant area and bar are also comfortable and nicely informal. Not pretentious, nicely priced and yet special.

My daughter (aged 13 years), wife and I had an overnight stay on our way back from Devon. My wife and I had stayed at the Bat & Ball some 20+ years ago and thought it would be great idea to revisit as a stopover. In addition, we booked a Sunday lunch/dinner which was absolutely superb. We shared a halloumi starter, which was wonderful followed by a roast dinner; I opted for the pork belly which was lovely. For dessert, we went for 2 chocolate mouse and honeycomb which was just too much but again a taste sensation - all dishes highly recommended. They have a great and varied wine list as well which really tops off a lovely meal. I believe we stayed in room 7 (the family room) and was again pleasantly surprised by it's size - it's a loft room with a sloping ceiling but more than adequate for our overnight stay. It had a good size bathroom and my only comment would be that the beds are probably in need of replacing - my one creeked (rather loudly) every time I rolled over, needless to say we didn't have the greatest of nights sleep. But that said, the setting of the B&B itself is glorious and with the sounds of the countryside wildlife being heard. Breakfast was included and was again fantastic value - cereal, toast, full English breakfast with tea, coffee, juice etc - all in all, great valuet. I have to say the bar, restaurant and in fact rooms have all been decorated to a very nice standard - all credit to the owners.

The refurbishment has done wonders for the pub, restaurant and rooms. Although a great deal of the "marvellous clutter" has been removed, it still retains it's quirky cricket feel. The bar and restaurant are much airier and clean and the rooms are really lovely. The food is as wonderful as it ever was and the staff are very welcoming and friendly. All in all, a wonderful experience.

We ate dinner in the very dog friendly bar area. Service was friendly and attentive. Good range of options from the menu and an additional specials board which changes each month. We had the scallop/chorizo/pork belly starter which we thought small for the price, but nevertheless delicious. We both had the fishcake with samphire for main which was also very good. Tasty selection of desserts too - the chocolate mousse was particularly delicious. Excellent quality ingredients, well cooked and very nicely presented. Good range of wine, reasonably priced, by the glass and bottle.

We visited this pub after seeing lovely food being advertised on Facebook however we were not quite happy with our meal. The choice on the menu was not great, we only found out there was a specials menu after we had ordered our food and this was only because we overheard another table being given the choices. The meat was not great with the roast, it was tasteless and really pale looking, especially the beef. They had also covered the dinners in pepper so much so that it was over powering. I wish we had tried this place on a different day so that we could have had a better menu choice.

Stayed for one night in a dog friendly room. The room was very clean and well decorated. Although we were above a busy pub there was no noise. The evening meal was excellent and the staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. The pub is set in a beautiful village with lots of walking for the dog.

We have always liked the food and service in Harvesters. Always been loyal customers. However, our most recent experience was not great at all. The place was busy, the salad bar was quite empty and the food took a much longer time to arrive which we could excuse as a one-off. But some of the food was not cooked through unfortunately, which believe it or not, again we sort of excused as staff apologised and replaced it. What we cannot overlook however was the menu has changed and unfortunately all the tasty parts of the food have been replaced with hard, tasteless freezer food. Prices have gone up too, which is understandable but they should not have messed with the quality of the food. The chicken, the hash browns were not soft and succulent as before. The nice onion ring was replaced by hard and cold cheese jalapeño rings. Totally different food experience now. We are not going to go back in a hurry, let's just say. Really sad as we did like frequenting it over the last few years.

I had a late lunch in The Red Lion this lunchtime. First time I had been in the pub in 5 years but with new management and hearing great things since the new owners took over I was keen to give it a try. Bar staff were very welcoming to me and my Cavapoo. Lovely friendly atmosphere and spotlessly clean. I ordered a scampi, fries and peas. It was delicious and too much for me to finish it. I will definitely be back soon with the family 👍🏼

We took friends out for lunch on our first visit and although the pub was clean the food was very very disappointing for the price. Will not be going back!
