For a group of 8 we were served quickly and with excellent food! No one had to wait longer that the rest even we chose from an extensive menu and that’s unusual.

We dropped in for lunch and although it wasn't too busy there were enough people in to create a nice atmosphere.

Crown Inn

18/11/2018: We have visited the Crown Inn many times in the past, usually for Sunday lunch which is great & good value, or for an early evening meal. This visit we were a bit later on a Saturday night (7.30pm), due to a previous booking cancelled by us due to illness, and we re-arranged to take 2 friends (who had never been before) for dinner. We were shown to a table at the back of the restaurant - which was tight against the table behind us, to the point we could barely get our legs underneath. My husband gallantly took hte inside seat - to find he was squashed against a very hot radiator. The place was quite noisy, and there were children running about selling lottery tickets, so I can only assume this was a one-off. No matter. We ordered drinks which were brought promptly. We ordered the food. My garlic mushrooms were served with a tiny garnish side salad and on top of cold bread, which was not too grand. My friends had Cullen Skink from the specials menu, which they said was good. My main course was chicken nachos - lots and well presented, but not a huge amount of chicken. The others said their food was ok, but the burgers looked a bit anaemic and there were not many fries with them. All the time we waited for food or were eating, the noise levels increased. We were asked if we wanted to join the quiz, which we did. This started after the meal at approximately 9pm. Unfortunately, a raffle draw took place in the middle, which took ages to happen, during which time the rowdiness increased, there were young guys whose language worsened (even the man using the microphone was using bad language & joked he had got into trouble for it). We had planned to stay for the rest of the quiz but the raffle took so long, it was so hot, we were getting fed up with the place, so I went down to the bar to pay the bill. It was pandemonium - lots of men swearing, shouting, drinking - a very unpleasant experience. I finally managed to get someone's attention to pay and couldn't get out fast enough. I know it's a pub as well as a restauarant, and I am sure they were collecting for charity with the quiz and the raffle, but we took friends in for a pleasant dinner, and I regret to say this was not. I don't frequent pubs, and I will go back for the lunch or early evening - but I was not impressed with the bawdy, drunken melee we found ourselves in.
08/10/2018: We were driving from Edinburgh to York and were looking for a place to grab a quick lunch. We stopped in Biggar and ate at the Crown Inn. It was a great stop and a great pub. There were a lot of locals having lunch also. I had the hamburger and my wife had soup and a sandwich. Both were very good. The service was great.

Inn on the Loch

04/11/2018: Decided on this restaurant for lunch with the family who live in Lanark. The staff are always nice & welcoming. The food was DELICIOUS. I had the macaroni cheese for main with chocolate brownie for dessert. Both were delicious. The brownie was the best I've tasted . My wife had the same and agreed about the brownie , and as she is a brownie connoisseur which is a compliment indeed..The only slight criticism was the both seats are a bit tight for space but great food.
18/11/2018: Just had lunch here today to celebrate my mother’s 94th birthday and we all enjoyed the meal and the overall experience. The serving staff were friendly, efficient and helpful without being intrusive and the food was very good. My mother’s only complaint about her steak pie was that there was too much on her plate, though we did learn afterwards that we could have requested a smaller portion - maybe they could make this clearer on the website or on their menu cards. Two of the party had the fillet steak which was beautifully cooked, though the pepper sauce was a bit light on peppercorns for the one who had asked for that. The duo of pork was also very good with its accompaniment of black pudding bonbon and colcannon. Would certainly make a return visit and recommend others to perhaps incorporate it into a trip to the lovely Lanark Loch alongside.
