My fiancé and I are getting married at The Barnyard in August 2025, so we like to visit the restaurant every now and then to see the venue and have some food as we live 2 hours away and like to make a day of it. On this visit we took my dad along and had the Father’s Day high tea, and it was fantastic! Every time we visit the food is great and they are so accommodating for dietary requirements and preferences, and the staff are very welcoming. We will be going back again soon and we would highly recommend!

The booking was a Wake for our mother. We decided to have the Wake at The Barnyard because of the setting. Whilst the setting was lovely and delivered on atmosphere and the staff were very helpful and pleasant, the food was extremely disappointing for the price. We were aware of what was on the menu and had agreed the finger buffet. However, sandwiches were made with what seemed to be cheap processed bread and the fillings were not creative but basic and uninteresting. The other food appeared to be ready-made processed food which did not taste nice or feel healthy. The poor quality of the food did not match the lovely image and brand The Barnyard were selling. We knew the price per head was £24, but because the quality of the food was poor in our view (several people have commented on that) it didn't feel like this was value for money. If the food had been so much better then it would have felt worth it. The effect of this is The Barnyard would not be a place we would recommend to hold an event or indeed to eat at your restaurant.

I booked the BarnYard for my mum's 70th birthday. We had the whole of the Mezzanine for Sunday lunch and I cannot fault it at all! There were 21 of us of mixed ages and there wasn't a single complaint. Because of the size of our party we had to pre-order, but that was hassle free. I dropped off the birthday cake the day before, that was no hassle either. The staff were fantastic! The food was incredible! Mum had a lovely day. Couldn't ask for anything more. It's a stunning venue, the place was packed, everyone really happy and friendly. Highly recommend!

A group of friends met for a catch up lunch. We sat at an our table for quite sometime before eventually getting a wine menu. We ordered our food and the starters were lovely. Our main was steak pud but we got pie instead. The quiche was rock hard and inedible so was sent back.. although someone spoke to us and exchanged meals it felt begrudgingly. The place lacked ambience in the side room and staff didn’t know much about the menu. Sadly we won’t be going back which is a shame as it had a lovely garden entry

Visited as a family group recently. Service staff did their best, but the distance they had to cover seemed significant. The starters were ok, the main courses seemed adequate, the deserts were disappointing. The toilets are outside across a courtyard therefore if raining you get wet. The consensus was that the meals were ok, perhaps at the cost charged expectations were higher than delivered. There was nothing wrong with what was delivered.

Visited today with my husband for lunch. Very nice setting. We were seated immediately and drinks order arrived quickly. However, our food order took about 40 minutes to arrive. Food when served was tasty and well presented, which is why I gave 4 stars. The restaurant was not busy and we couldn't understand why we had to wait so long. Following our main course we again waited for about 15 minutes for our plates to be cleared and dessert orders to be taken. I feel the service let the Barnyard down. On another point, which is probably out of their control, was the fact that in the corner there was a group of women having a work meeting/zoom call. It was impossible not to hear and this was quite off-putting.

Came to the barnyard for high tea with friends. Venue is beautiful and food is really lovely and fresh. The service however really wasn't great. Had to ask them to bring out the tea as they'd bought out the food and no sign of the tea coming. Waitresses weren't very attentive and just looked like they really didn't want to be there. I was bought to the barnyard in July for lunch for my birthday and the service was shocking but thought I'd give it another go. I think the staff need a course in customer service as this is seriously letting the place down. Such a shame.

My fiancé and I are getting married at The Barnyard in August 2025, but had only seen the venue in person in March when it was cold and wintery, so we decided to go to the restaurant for some food and to see what the venue and scenery will look like when we get married! It’s a 2 hour drive from where we live, but not only did we get to see our venue, we also got to have a wonderful high tea at the restaurant which made it worth the long drive! The high tea was absolutely delicious, everything was very fresh and tasty. We had emailed ahead to ask if we could just have one flavour of sandwich as we weren’t keen on the others and the high tea came out as we’d requested, I also can’t eat chocolate and this was also accommodated for with no trouble. The staff were welcoming and friendly, all in all it was a great experience and we would highly recommend!

What can I say, the cooked breakfast was akin to a £4 Wetherspoons breakfast; it looked like everything had been through a deep fat fryer, including the ‘fried slice’ which was golden yellow and looked awful. The Eggs Benedict were below average as the muffin was simply warm bread rather than being toasted. Waited ages for the bill and eventually had to go and find the manager to pay, the ‘service charge’ was the final insult so I politely asked for that to be removed. No one asked if the food was okay as if they had I would have explained that in my opinion it was sub par. I had been looking forward to taking my mum for breakfast here however I don’t think I’ll be frequenting again anytime soon. The setting and courtyard area is lovely so drinks on the terrace might be okay but I wouldn’t eat here again.

I’ve been coming to the BarnYard for years as we live very close by. The last few occasions the service hasn’t been particularly impressive but today it was very poor. We sat outside and pretty much got ignored once our drinks and food order was taken. Our breakfast took over 45 mins to arrive, which I would consider a long wait for a breakfast order for 3 and another table got served before us. In the meantime, no staff checked on us, or asked us if we wanted to order more drinks. In the end, I came in to ask when our food was going to be ready, there was no apology for the wait or update. When it eventually arrived the food was of a good stand standard but nobody checked if we needed anything else and that everything was ok with our meal. After giving up on our plates being cleared, I went to go find someone to pay. I did inform the manager about our experience and he did apologise. He said it was Father’s Day and had been a chaotic morning, which I understand. However they were not extremely full, and I had had a similar experience last year when sat outside. When I asked to remove the service charge from my bill, the member of staff did not ask if there was a problem or everything was ok with my meal. A lot of the staff seem young, inexperienced and in need of some basic customer service training and close coaching on the basics of hospitality. Whilst the setting is gorgeous, this and my prior recent experiences would put me off booking a special occasion here, which is what they want to specialise on since there service is simply not attentive at all. If they could make the service shine, it would be a much more worthwhile visit but for now, I won’t be rushing back sadly

Booked a table for 2 for Valentine's Day per email on 28.01.23. Had a phone call from a lady to confirm the reservation. Arrived today at the Barnyard. My husband entered the restaurant while I parked the car. Apparently the gentleman on the reception was unable to find my booking on the computer. However, he offered a table in the bar or at the back corner in the main restaurant. My husband chose the table in the main restaurant. Can't say that this was very romantic, especially as there were a few (nicer) empty tables which were later occupied with couples. I enquired again at the reception regarding my reservation but the gentleman didn't seem to understand and kept telling me that I had a table and apparently nothing else seemed to interest him. He also didn't understand or couldn't be bothered when I asked him what was the point of of booking when there is no table on arrival. Anyhow, I realised, there was no point in talking to this person. Sat down and wrote an email to the booking team. This gentleman took our order and when he later brought the food, he enquired of our name. Now it appears that it was all my husbands fault. Instead of WOLSONCROFT, he apparently said "Wilson". (You couldn't make it up) Besides, we were sitting on the right table the guardian of the reception declared as he had now found my booking on his computer. And then he walked off. No this is not a Monty Python sketch

Visited yesterday for lunch. All of the food was amazing - the roast potatoes were particularly good! Our main waitress Megan was really lovely, really helpful and friendly. And the Barnyard is always a lovely setting to go to. So all that stuff was great. Everything started off fairly quick but towards the end plates were left for a long time, and ordering coffess desserts seemed to take a long time too, and bringing over the bill was hard work. I think there is just some misunderstanding between staff on the new rules. The sign on table says bill must be brought to table and paid on one card. We asked a waitress for the bill who said yes she would bring it, never turned up. So we asked 2nd waitress and she said we should actually pay on the way out, and bills aren't brought to the table. Then as we stood up a third waiter brought the bill over. Not the end of the world, but just left us hanging around for longer at the end and was a bit confusing! We did also ask why tables were placed all in one section (very close together) when there were plenty of empty tables to spread everyone out in the current covid times.

The only thing was it was a really hot day and we asked for extra lemon quash as we didn’t want lots of tea or coffee, they gave us two jugs but then charged us £3.50 for each jug, I think this was bad as paid £20 each the cold drinks should have been free. Also one person was not eating and they had paid a £29 deposit they said they would take it off the drinks but they didn’t, said we lost the deposit . Which I think was unfair. Also two people wanted extra sausages roll and they charged us £10 which I think was expensive, can’t fault the food or setting as love,y place to go.

Restaurant overcrowded considering current climate, sitting people on adjacent tables that are clearly less than 1 metre apart. Staff got my wifes order completely wrong, bringing her roast beef instead of a burger, which turned out to be dry as it was clearly cooked in a hurry. My daughters meal was far to big for a toddler and the sausages were VERY overcooked. My yorkshire pudding was more like a bread than a batter and due to being sat pretty much in an open doorway my meal went cold very quickly, if they had less tables then that wouldn't have happened. Extremely disappointed as this was originally a mothers day booking and waited 5 months for. (I know this isn't the Restaurants fault).

Having both my wife and daughters birthday over the same weekend we chose to stay local and visit the barnyard for the first time for the Gin tea and a child’s afternoon tea. On arrival we were shown to ours table and no drinks orders taken for 15 minutes allowing us to enjoy the ambience of the frankly overly load and odd dance music given the ‘farmyard surroundings’ by waiting staff who seemed rushed off their feet. Food and drinks eventually arrived for us to clarify the measly child portion- 1/2 a sandwich, sausage slice, cheese twist, brownie and tiny sponge cake and squash for over £10!?! Also given this is advertised as tiered cakes etc presentation wasn’t great as it was served on 2 plates. Food was poor with assumed to be factory made cakes and scones as all were bland, although the gin was well made it was not what you would expect for over £25 a head. Also to note no visors worn by waiting staff but i cannot comment on guidelines. On asking for additional drinks we were greeted with a huff and were blanked by other waiting staff as we’d queried the menu. Overall our experience was disappointing, overpriced, poor service and poor food and we will not be returning.

We arrived on time at the restaurant for lunch.. We were checked in as had a booking and were told to go outside to the terrace, find a table, then someone would be along to serve. I recognise that they were busy but this is not a cheap cafe where I could excuse being ticked off a list and left to my own devices. There were lots of signs about cleaning hands and hand gel provided to use. In these strange times of Covid 19 I was shocked at the blasé attitude of staff regarding filthy outside tables. Powder coated tables were ingrained in the grooves with old food and not acceptable to me to eat at. The guy on the door just allocated us an inside table passing no comment on the reason why we had moved. The waitress excused the establishment saying that the tables were wiped with antibacterial spray. NOT good enough for me - spraying over old bits of food.! Both my husband and I said that it needed a brush to first remove the ground in crumbs and dirt but she told us they had were ‘full on’ at the moment!Staff appeared rushed. I watched one waiter turn his attention away to the door whilst a lady was talking to him about the good food she had eaten - dismissive and rude. The establishment not as aware as other eateries we have visited. Salt and pepper shakers already on the table which I wonder??? - were they wiped before each guest. Food lovely but I don’t want to visit again. It’s not all about making money and getting bums on seats. I’m disappointed with myself for staying and eating there.

I think this restaurant relies on its reputation from years back as it was definitely better when I visited some time ago; they need to up their game as there are many more similar establishments these days who do it better.

The most outstanding thing about the visit was our waitress Emma. She was very professional and had the right attitude towards the job, a real asset to the business. Will be returning.

We were quite late, 3ish, it was no problem to them, they were nearly full, but effortlessly they found and laid a table, we wanted a meal and there was a lovely selection. All food around us looked yummy. We had cod and chips and mushy peas and steak and something pudding, mash and fresh vegetables.service was brilliant, very very efficient, they were all smartly dressed and so polite, cheerful and welcoming. Our drinks arrived promptly and the food ordered and freshly cooked. Both were so well presented and looked perfectly cooked. Both were delicious, so much so that we both had to finish every morsel, even though we were very, very full.Must go to if in area. Perhaps booking necessary.

We turned up as they opened and ordered a cooked breakfast. Very delicious, reasonably price and all in a lovely setting. They do lunches, dinners and cream teas and would eat there again, if in the area.

Such a beautiful place to visit, the food was amazing. Such a lovely relaxed atmosphere, have been back a couple of times with friends. I would strongly recommend it. There was a wedding taking place the last time we went and it was absolutely amazing, the staff were so accommodating and it must of been hell for them as it was the hottest day of the year and it never phased them. Well done guys. Will certainly be going there again.

Visited today for lunch with my wife it was not a great experience. Ordered food - when it arrived the chips with both meals were cold when we told the waitress she said she couldn’t change the whole meal and to start eating and I will bring you more chips. She brought more but didn’t take the cold ones away. When we mentioned this to a different waitress she was rude and unhelpful. The a so called manager came over he was also useless. They don’t seem to care if you have a poor experience. All staff need re training they are not good ambassadors.

Our booking was for seven, one meat eater and the rest vegetarian. We opted for two courses starting with a good range of starters from soup to salads, something for everyone. The roast dinners arrived with a generous Yorkshire pudding plus a good selection of vegetables side dishes. Everything was pipping hot and tasted delicious. The service staff were polite and friendly. We will definitely be back.

I went for a midweek lunch with my husband and mother in law, we had booked a table although on that day it doesn’t appear to have been necessary. I had home made sausage plait with sweet potato chips which was delicious and served with a salad garnish . My husband had a burger and my mother in law a jacket potato which were all beautifully presented and very tasty. We also tried a couple of the homemade desserts which again were very nice. It is a lovely setting and the staff were very attentive and polite & we were not rushed

Have enjoyed lunch and breakfast at the barnyard numerous times but won’t return after this mornings disappointing breakfast. Staff not interested in offering good customer service and inedible gluten free sausages, lukewarm apart from the beans which had been nuked to oblivion and a snotty egg.

Our waitress was very attentive but then two of our meals were already out of stock by 1pm on a Limited Sunday lunch menu- we agreed to swap but then waited nearly an hour for five meals two of which were ploughman’s! We have tried three times this summer but won’t be rushing back- the surroundings set a high standard but the service does not. We waited nearly an hour the last time on a weekday and no-one was rushed off their feet. The ‘maitre d’ is surly and ineffective such a shame.

I had a friend down visiting so we popped to the Barnyard for a late breakfast. You know what it’s like when someone’s visiting..... you want to take them somewhere you know is decent as opposed to taking a chance at some local cafe and The Barnyard didn’t disappoint. Such a lovely setting that looks like it’s had some work done since my last visit as the outside area and gardens of the marquee has been revamped and refurbished. It’s has such pleasant surroundings, it’s a joy to sit outside and have a meal.

I can’t believe what I am reading in the below comments on The BarnYard. I have been a customer for a fair few years now both as a restaurant diner and also as a wedding guest and on each and every occasion I have had the best food and the best service. The venue is truly beautiful. Yes, it does get busy a lot of the time and if customers don’t book then the management are in an almost impossible situation to try and staff it accordingly where there are lots of ‘walk-ins'. However, in my mind they do a great job.

A very nice typical barn shop with the added feature of a very nice restaurant, family went there on Sunday morning to have breakfast, beautiful sunny day so asked for a table outside, this is a popular place therefore you would expect the owners to make sure there were plenty of staff. Booked a table in advance for 10:30 and arrived on time, breakfast order taken at 10:40 and at 11:30 still waiting for breakfast to be served, if it had not of been such a nice day outside I would of got up and left. Terribly poor service.

Went here few years ago, wasn't particularly impressed then, but thought I'd give it another try and everywhere needs a second chance as last time could have been a "one off bad day". Unfortunately was no more impressed this time. Food was lukewarm, this was probably due to the fact that our order was delivered completely wrong and had to be returned to the kitchen and had clearly been shuffled around on the plates in order to correct. The staff seem so miserable in their work and disconnected from their guests.

Had lunch on a Saturday, and the place was busy with tea partys and a wedding. The place is nice and the staff are helpful. Had a traditional Ham Egg and Chips which should come with peas, but if you want them they charge the huge price of £3 for a small pot of the cheapest veg on the planet. The chips came in a fancy container which masks the fact they are giving you a childs portion. The prices are high for the amount of food given and a lot of the sides should be included.

I found this online as I wanted to take my Mum for tea and cake somewhere, so off we went. After quite a search (using SatNav) we eventually found it. It’s exactly as we’d hoped - warm and cosy, excellent staff, delicious cakes and a really good pot of tea. Definitely glad we persevered and we will go again for sure. Lovely 👌

I recently had reason to contact Greggs head office following a visit to this branch. When I informed them that I wanted to eat-in, they said that I had to give them my details. I gave them the information asked for, but felt uncomfortable with the manner that my details were taken. The information I provided was typed into a tablet held behind the counter. Once provided, I sat down. I decided to speak to the manager about my concerns. He was unable to provide me with any information about where my data would be held, for how long and what use my data would be put to. He indicated that it was for COVID and nothing further. I pointed out that I was wearing a mask to prevent spreading this illness and not one staff member was. He said that it was personal choice. I contacted head office to ask what their data protection policies were and was offered a general explanation, not related to what this branch was doing. Anyway, their head office said that shop staff should NOT be stopping entry into the restaurant because of anyone not giving personal data. Today I returned and staff are doing the same thing. Still nothing about data is displayed in store and no explanation about how the information is used.

THIS IS A DIRTY HOTEL. Bleach water doesn't make it clean. Do not waste your money. This hotel is nasty and dirty, and the food was awful. And the staff and their service were even worse. The hotel needs to shut down and be rebuilt. Spa , jacuzzi is not working. We didn't even get the pass we asked for. And people who did had to get staff to let them in. We walked around, but we were told that these had been broken for the past few days before we booked, but we were not informed of this. Before our arrival. No one told us about this at the time of booking or afterwards. We were still under the impression from the website booking.com that this was a spa hotel. How very disappointing. And misleading totally. The room was dirty, the receptionist said l can only leave a message for the manager when we complained. No one spoke with us. And it was too late to book anywhere else. the sink in the bathroom was broken and glued back together. Rusty bin, dirty shower, water only dribbled out. There was no water pressure, there was dirty floors, cobwebs, and hair of all sorts on the floors. The carpets in the bedroom had loads of stains. Bed base was all torn and stained. The kettle had loads of limescale in it. But when we boiled it and poured the water out, the limescale kept coming out every time. So we couldn't even have a cup of tea. There was a flashing pedestrian light outside that came through the curtains. So, sleep was not an option. This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. I don't recommend any food. And the coffee was cold. We had to get our own cutlery as none of them were on the table.
