The Barn Bistro in Waverley

Very disappointing experience, took our friends for lunch and it was such a let down. Calamari was the worst I’ve ever had, not authentic and the tartar sauce was mixed with salad cream - just how they eat it in Italy (not). Arancini was bland, four cheese pizza had a really thin base and was overloaded with blue cheese, extremely sickly. The only good thing about the whole meal was carbonara, it was actually nice. I also want to say the service was great and attentive. Wouldn’t come back and wouldn’t recommend, this is an Italian restaurant for someone who’s never had proper Italian food in their life and can’t tell the difference. Really regret spending my money here as it was £60 for lunch so not the cheapest either. Edit: I am editing this in line with the owners response - honestly it’s laughable you call yourself authentic Italian. And ok maybe this review doesn’t fit in with the rest of your “patrons” because your patrons are old white British people who never stepped foot on a plane; perhaps you can fool them you’re an “authentic Italian” restaurant but someone who actually knows their food will know there’s nothing authentic about what you’re serving. Learn how to take criticism and perhaps also how to cook Italian food. All the best.

Everything cooked and presented well. The desserts were amazing. The only thing to note is, that it is quite pricey.

We had the whole restaurant for our group of approx 70 on Sunday evening. The venue was perfect - ideal for a private function and a lovely atmosphere. Parking was easy as it's right next to the Waitrose car park. We had a 3 course set menu and everyone agreed that the options were delicious - I didn't hear a single negative word from anyone there. I enjoyed the vegan options. I'd recommend The Barn Bistro for anyone looking for good Italian food in a lovely venue.

The food was of a high quality and the service was very friendly but a little slow. To be fair, it was a very busy day when we visited and so slightly slower service was I suppose not unexpected. There are some vegan main courses and they cater for children, though there's not a separate children's menu.

Great food at an excellent price, however went on Valentine's Day so the service was very slow / being given our table despite having made a booking. Imagine this is not usually an issue though

I wouldn’t bother with The Barn! We booked a table, when we turned up - they were closed!!! You might be luckier but it’s a really bad sign and speaks volumes. No call, text etc to warn us! Dreadful!!!

Amazing food, me and group of friends love the food; different and delicious. The service was great too and so easy to access, we parked right opposite in Waitrose Car Park. Highly recommended.

What a cracker. Staff were an absolute delight, food was delicious, and they just went a few extra steps on a number of things which just really made the whole evening. Definitely recommend this place. Marked the atmosphere down 1 star ONLY because it was a little quiet but imagine weekends are superb.

Not too busy but a nice atmosphere. Food was very tasty - I chose Bruschetta to share and then the Crab Ravioli 😋😋 I was going to have the Affogato but there was no vanilla ice cream so I just had a black americano which was lovely. All in all we had a very nice time.

Hidden gem in the heart of Farnham. Delicious Mediterranean dishes, appetizers, pizza, pastas and delicious desserts, Italian wines and superb service. Looking forward to visiting again and again.

An excellent meal and lovely service. It was Sunday lunchtime and pretty quiet. Four of the group had pizzas which were excellent. I had carbonara which was one of the best I’ve had.

Tried here for the first time tonight. A warm welcome and then shown to the only table for two that wasn’t laid up properly. Staff knowledgeable about the menu and what options were available as gluten free. Wine list isn’t great and for a supposed Italian restaurant, there’s no explanation as to where wines are from or their vintage. Arancini felt as if it was frozen and brought in… however beef carpaccio was good. Nice balsamic glaze. Crab ravioli was tasty (albeit served on a chipped bowl with greasy marks on it) and a gluten free pizza seemed to hit the spot. Desert menu had pictures, which for me, is always a no, no. My main issue is the atmosphere, there was only one table when we arrived, the lighting is very bright (even with some bulbs removed) and the music is piped through a tinny speaker. As a suggestion, some tealights, the lights dimmed and a quality speaker for the music would really lift the whole place. Someone with a rucksack and hoody was working on a laptop at the back, staff were sitting down at tables and then someone arrived with bags of laundry (I’m guessing table cloths and napkins). Not a great look. Two starters, two mains and a bottle of Pinot Grigio was £73.00…. I’d like to try a panini and coffee at lunchtime but certainly wouldn’t rush back for dinner.

This Italian restaurant is such a wonderful find! The food is absolutely first class and the service could not be better. The owners have also designed it cleverly with atmospheric lighting and have interesting deli items displayed. At last we have a first class restaurant in central Farnham.

The best food in Farnham. I live in the centre so I have great opportunity to try everything in the local area but the food in this place has me being a repeat offender. Great spot for an intimate date, with a friendly atmosphere.

Visited the Barn Bistro for our 22nd anniversary yesterday evening. Had a lovely time. Food was wonderful, staff very friendly, very good value and 100% will be returning.

just returned from a week in the Italian Riviera and this place surpassed every restaurant there. Food was excellent, prices very reasonable and service 100%. You can have a delicious pizza from only £12ish or 3 courses with lovely wines from £40 a head. Give this excellent restaurant a visit, you won’t regret it, we will be returning.

The best pizza we had in a long time

I had lunch here one Sunday with my son and his partner. We are all vegetarian and found good menu choices. They had garlic bread and bruschetta for starters, two of us chose the vegan lentil ragu for the main course and my son ordered penne arabiatta. The food was excellent while service was friendly and efficient. Highly recommended.

Just had lunch there. The food was absolutely delicious - I had bruschetta, crab ravioli and cannoli (which were better than the ones I had in Sicily recently). Loved the tablecloths. Made it so much more than just 'lunch'. Highly recommend.

A very pleasant Bistro just off the main High Street near Waitrose. Nice atmosphere, and excellent hosts. I only had the Panini but it tastes great and the coffee is excellent. They have an extensive and competitive Italian menu. Worth dropping in.

Was so excited to try this place after reading all the reviews. Came down for a spontaneous date night! Wine list was a little restrictive for us with only one option by the glass. I had my favourite pollo milanese, the spaghetti was lovely, but sadly the chicken was tough and seemed like it had been microwaved/reheated. I mentioned this to the waitress and no compensation or replacement was offered. My wife had the pizza and it was great so can't fault them there. Left with mixed feelings!

Tried this out for lunch with my husband today. Great Italian food and atmosphere. Felt like I was in Italy especially with the background music. Looking forward to going back and already craving the parmigiana aubergine dish!

We dined at the barn and bistro today and we actually were sat near the table which wrote the review below. They ate all of their food and we had the some of the same dishes which were delicious and freshly prepared. We would recommend this restaurant to all our friends and it’s a shame they caused a scene because we had a lovely experience with the restaurant and will be coming back for more! Great food, professional staff and really good service.

Came for my friends 30th birthday and was completely let down. Food was disgusting asked for garlic bread to come out with the lasagna it come out 20 minutes later the pizza okay because how can you go wrong with pizza, carbonara was worse than a microwave dish and the chicken was vile. Served one dish and the other 3 people was waiting 15 minutes after it was just shocking, service was poor she wasn’t professional what so ever. The only thing we was happy with was a cold can of coke. Wouldn’t go do not recommend

Incredible place. Food amazing and cooked to perfection. Menu very good and staff so friendly. Prices very good and would expect to pay much more for that sort of quality dining. Will go back time and time again

Absolutely a complete gem of a find. Service was exceptional (Abdul makes you feel like his best customer, even though it was our first time!). My husband is half Italian so has quite the judgemental head when it comes to Italian food and even he was blown away. We are incredibly impressed and will definitely be making this our frequent go to restaurant. Thoroughly recommend

Had a table booked for 6 pm on Sunday, arrived at 5:55 and place was dark, empty and locked. Stayed around for 20 minutes but still locked and empty, plus nobody answered the phone when called.

Stumbled upon by chance, impromptu lunch whilst visiting with family. Owners are very friendly and accommodating. The food was delicious and the service second to none. Wishing them well with the business!

Abdul and his staff opened for us as a large group on an evening they should be closed. The food and service were excellent and i would highly recommend popping in for a meal or coffee.

Excellent place, superbly tasting food, from the Mushroom risotto Karin , spaghetti bolognese, Colin , which we had on Saturday night, to the crab ravioli, two diabolo pizzas and margarita pizza enjoyed. The owner and his partner were so pleasant friendly and very charming, the restaurant was very clean and had a welcoming atmosphere. They didn’t have a license for alcoholic drinks, but they would welcome the provision of your own. Karin and I enjoyed our first visit so much that we took the family there for our Mother’s Day lunch. They welcome takeaway orders, and the local area has reasonably decent parking. The decor is pleasant, it’s entrance is down a flight of stairs, so that does have a consideration for some. Our grandson loved his pizza, and the restaurant had a high chair to use. Thoroughly impressed and thoroughly recommend for a midday call in, or a night out for a Friday or Saturday
