I had a terrible stay from start to finish. I would have left but the work paid for this trip. I would never want to stay here or recommended anyone to stay here. It’s not worth the money. It’s very sad as it is a stunning location, with lovely nature around . First the place is very old , old and it just has not been well maintained , the windows latches didn’t latch , I tried to open the windows but it wouldn’t hold. The carpet is very well worn in, and very heavily soiled with many stains! The rooms and bathrooms are spactions . The furniture and bedding is worn well out and just need replacing. The furniture is chipping away so poorly , it’s just needs to be thrown out and replaced . I had no cleaning service. I checked in on Sunday late afternoon and checked out Thursday morning . No new towels or toilet paper was brought into the room. however, they do the door signs that we can request the cleaning service. This was not done even though I had put the signs up the night before ? The basin is also very very small. I couldn’t fill up the kettle with water to make a hot drink. The kettle was empty upon arrival . There was a few coffees and teas with some milk provided but never refilled from Sunday night already . There is no additional plug points by the bedside table apart for the one bedside lap. The internet doesn’t work it only worked from Sunday to Wednesday. From Wednesday my cellphone and laptop couldn’t connect . I was on a work trip and obviously they chose the cheapest rooms! This trip cost £100 per night which is not cheap! I mean for a bed for 5 nights no feed/ no cleaning cost £500 not worth it at all , I didn’t have a comfortable stay at all , the water was also cut off on Sunday and Monday by South west water so not the Inns fault at least they new about this and informed me. But yeah all in all not a good stay at all ! I dislike being negative but yea I have to write this review Also no contact people go and report issue too the problems or issues too ,one should be able to get help

The staff are always friendly, there's a good size garden for those long summer evenings and there's everything you would expect to find in a traditional pub.

The Barley Sheaf is a brilliant option for one or two nights. It's got everything you need - but it is basic travelling accommodation. Having said that, I slept like a log and I was very happy to see that they provide bathroom toiletries. The walk in shower was lovely too. I had room 3 (overlooking the river) and it was quiet and comfortable. Yes, some of the furniture is a bit tired, but who cares?! When I arrived it was a bit hot and with no air conditioning. I called reception and Abbie (who is the most delightful and lovely girl who actually made quite an impression on me - hope she reads this!) swiftly provided me with a fan. Would I stay again? Yes. Is it the Ritz? No, but what you do get is a comfortable room and excellent service.

Mothers day roast. Lillo's roast was really good. Catered to a coeliac in our group and the chef came out personally to discuss the order. Great service, very tasty, large portions. Would have loved to have been able to do a tab for our drinks whilst we ate.

I don’t understand some of the previous reviews - the haddock was beautifully cooked with a very thin and crispy batter, the chips were soft inside and crispy outside and the tea was obviously made by someone who actually drinks tea! Great lunch spot.

Had a takeaway, it arrived very late and was cold, they couldn't find us but didn't bother ringing. Cold on arrival and they sent 1 starter and we'd paid for 2. We're local and won't bother again. Very disappointing.

Great family & pet classic pub! After a day in St Ives and an afternoon at Lands End we needed a hearty dinner for 2 adults and 4 healthy appetite teens. The pub had a few regulars in, and easily accommodated us and our Border Collie. Within 5 minutes of being seated, a drinks order was taken, and upon quick receipt of our drinks our food order was taken. 1 beef lasagna, 1 Scampi, 1 Curry of the day, 1 children’s fish & chips, 2 8oz burgers and side orders of onion rings and sweet potato fries. The food was cooked fresh, served within good time and hot! The Burgers, fish, scampi and sides were very much enjoyed. The curry was mostly eaten, just a little bit spicier than expected and the lasagna was a bit too dry for our youngest palate. The bar staff and waiting staff were really friendly, and checked on us enough to show care and not impose.

The Hotel Bristol is a friendly and lovely place to stay. Staff are so helpful and on top of the job. Such a shame its going to be lost.

Used take away before been very good. But last night pork ribs and rice was excellent, the rest very poor meat cut to big and tast less all tough wishy-washy duck anaemic and taste less not value for money.
