Came here alone and couldn’t have asked for better experience chatted to the staff very professional yet relaxed had a good talk with all. Ordered a lasagna and it was really nice especially with the chips. Kid called Layton who was working there was very kind to me and bought my meal out very quickly great service.

This place has been our local for many years and has always been great however since the new owners took over the pub deteriorated immediately, no sole there anymore, flowers baskets ( that the previous owners looked after) have died due to no water! the gorgeous wisteria has been pulled out , the cider is flat and lifeless most of the time and the owner, when he comes, never interacts with customers just walks past! rubbish lying around the bins which smell due to them not being collected for at least 2 weeks unhygienic for a food premises! such a shame a lovely pub has gone to pot so suddenly,. looking elsewhere now for a drink.

Booked for a Sunday lunch ate here before and was beautiful however yesterday wasn’t as nice for a start £17.95 for a Sunday dinner ! Average is £15 so thought this be amazing sadly it wasn’t the beef was very thickly cut and was given a butter like knife to cut it which we couldn’t the mash was ( for me ) amazing along with most the veg but the red cabbage was very vinegary the Amstel was flat I know there are new owners / management so hopefully it perks up I’ve worked / lived in pubs most my life so I understand that people always say past mangers did this did that I’m not doing that who ever was on shift yesterday were lovely esp the young girl just a tip slice the meat a bit thinner and give steak knives we will book again though

Not got the soul it had under the previous owners. Asked for an Estrella but they had none. Had a whole list of food items not available including sausages and onion rings! Pure staple of pub food surely. How can a pub not have sausages or onion rings!!! Know the new owners haven’t been in long but worried that an amazing pub is going to go down the pan. No background music. Place felt lifeless (literally and metaphorically) and nowhere near as busy as it used to. As we were leaving, heard a regular being told that they’d forgotten to cook his food so he asked for a refund. Doesn’t look good for the future sadly. Used to love this place! Won’t rush back just yet but will give the new owners time…

Came on a Sunday morning as we'd heard a lot of good things about their breakfasts. The praise was well deserved! Probably the best full English breakfast I've had in memory. I couldn't think of any way to improve it. Their lunch and dinner food is amazing too. Real pub grub done well. And all served with a smile in a friendly atmosphere. Nice country pub, dog and customer friendly. Good range of beers and spirits. We visited for a drink as a break in dog-walking - as we so often do! - and stayed to eat. Eight of us had a lovely afternoon meal at this lovely Pub there is a vast choice on the menus also including the Xmas menu with a choice of two or three courses well priced. The pub was spotlessly clean including toilets great. We were well looked after by Kathy who took our orders from the table a difficult job at best with a Gang of Four brothers with their wives but Kathy dealt with everything in a throughly professional manner even encouraging the ladies to have another bottle of wine Ha ha Kathy you are a credit to the pub and yourself many thanks

Used to really like this place but seems to have gone downhill. Asked for pint of Stella at £4-10 a pint & gave it to me in an old pint tot which I questioned & said it needs to be in a proper glass to which the young girl & guy behind the bar got quite arsey & stated its not there fault they've got no glasses. I replied there's about 20 stella glasses outside that could be collected instead of chatting to the locals & not working. I reluctantly accepted the drink that went flat before I got to my table & evidence of blackcurrant on the glass made my mind up not to drink it so they had £4-10 for nothing. I don't know whose in charge here but there were 6 of us & all drinkers prepared to make a night of it but weren't gonna drink prestige & costly lager from an old pint tot..so at a time when pub's are struggling so they say the barley mow seem to think it's OK to treat customers in this way..a minimum £150-00 would have been spent by our party if we had stayed but we left to find a pub that was welcoming & went to 7 star's up the road where the beer & service was spot on..one question though & it's who trains these bar staff to be none curtious to customers. Seems there probably isn't any on this evidence..

Visited this evening after a walk over the common. All good re drinks order. Ordered food. Two of our party had pies which they the thought good. I and a friend had chick pea and spinach curry. Came with chips or rice or half & half and a nann. We both thought the curry somewhat tasteless. It was improved with some salt. Also the main ingredient seemed to be potato, which from memory was not mentioned within the description on the menu. The nann chips and rice no issues. After we had eaten, we sat with our, obviously finished, plated in front of us for well over an hour! In the end we moved them ourselves to an empty table. Not the best!

Visited yesterday lunchtime for the first time since lockdown, the organisation is first rate, lots of covered outdoor seating, met and welcomed on arrival with explanation of the social distancing setup, hand sanitisers etc. We chose to sit inside the pub, some tables have been removed and those remaining have been separated, there is a one-way entrance/exit system, we were given an individual, understandably reduced, printed menu, which was destroyed after use. Our drinks and food were delivered to the table, as good as ever with friendly smiling staff as always. Well done Barley Mow, great that you are open again, we will be back very soon.

We came here for a family Sunday lunch for a birthday meal. We all ordered Sunday lunch there were 8 of us in the party. The table was very cramped and hard to get in and out of without disturbing other diners. I was unable to get out of my seat without the whole row of my family moving out of their seats. We had all ordered beef and chicken dinners, these left us disappointed with the lack of vegetables, the dinners came only with peas and green beans, no other vegetables. There were only roasted potatoes on the dinners no boiled or mashed potato. No stuffing served with the chicken either. It would have been lovely to have a better selection of vegetables and maybe some roasted parsnips. The girl who served us was not very attentive and did not come back to check if we were happy with our meals. The cutlery was a mix and match of knives and forks, I ended up with what must have been a childs fork, that was difficult to eat with. The dirty plates were left with us for a while after we had eaten. We had dessert which were good, but the man who helped bring them out didn't have a clue what they were, the tea towel he used to carry out the apple crumble and custard with was dirty and hung on the custard.Overall it could have been a lot better, it was such a shame as the pub is a lovely old quirky place that could be fantastic.

This was my second visit after the first one a couple of years ago and it has got dirtier and dingier. Lucky the doors were open as the place has a musty unpleasant smell lingering. The food was ok nothing special and service ok but it looked like the waiter and barman needed a good wash also. Two of us had the pies which were ok but had very little else with it. The whole place including the outside toilets needed a good clean. We went to order a coffee after our meal and we were met by a stern reply by the barman that they had no coffee. I said jokingly that we could have brought some and got another terse response we’ve ordered some it will be here later. I mean come on that’s a first for me I have never known a pub or restaurant run out of coffee.

We haven't eaten at the Barley Mow for about 6 months so decided to go there for lunch. This pub is genuinely very old, the front door is a real talking point as it is probably no more than 5 feet high and immediately inside there are very steep stone steps down to the bar area. There are no menus here, everything is chalked on two or three blackboard but nonetheless there is quite a varied menu and you need to order at the bar. The pub has had a bit of a facelift since we were last here, all the seats now match and have been covered in green leatherlike material which has improved the look of the place enormously without detracting from the old building.

Waited 50 minutes for 2 burgers (I checked the time on my receipt so I'm not exaggerating), the meat had a nice taste but all the outside of the burger was burnt. Visited based on good reviews-but food was very average. Portions were enormous and overbearing. Steak was not cooked as requested and was chewy.

If ever you visit this quaint little pub you must try the food. We eat here frequently and have tried a good variety from the menu and everything is very, very good. The prices are very reasonable for the amount of food you get, which is substantial. If you are not a big eater then take a bag, the food is so good you won't want to leave any, especially the chicken tikka masala which is as good as (and considerably bigger) than many Indian restaurants serve.

We dined here again exactly 1 year after our first visit. This time we took our good friends and the food, beer, atmosphere and staff were terrific. The staff went out if their way to make our visit enjoyable. The steak & ale pie was the best I have had.

I only gave it an average because I think it could of been better . It's a cosy old pub , but we were freezing from the start. We kept our coats on the whole time. The beer is good and the food good too.Steak baguette was nice but onions tasted burn . Steak and blue cheese pie has massive and pie very tasty . The chips we had were over cooked and dry which was disappointing. I think it needs to bring a new menu in as it hasn't changed for years . May be a dressing on the salad garnish would be nice too . I would defo go again but wear more clothes to be warm

Came here with my partner for some lunch. The pub has a very homely feel to it and we were made to feel welcome. The menu is quite extensive with a variety of choices. I opted for the pork loin steaks with black pudding and for the price was excellent value. My partner had the steak and Stilton pie which was amazing and I’d even go as far to say as better than the pie factory’s! Will definitely be returning!

Again this place doesn’t disappoint with the steaks and how well they cooked, only thing is you have to book as small restaurant and if you want fillet steaks preorder them as they don’t always have them in, but will always go here for them

Our second visit to the Barley Mow in a month. Once again the food was brilliant, huge portions and Gammon to die for. Can't really say any more other than the prices are very reasonable and service very good. Great pub in a lovely spot, one of the best in the area.

Admittedly we only popped in for a drink after a New Year day walk, however after sitting at a table with our beers all we could smell was dog mess. This pub is obviously very popular for dog walkers as there were a number of them sat in the area where people were eating. I’m so very glad we hadn’t planned to eat there. Also, the toilets which are situated outside separate from the main bar/restaurant were an absolute disgrace. We finished our beers and happily left. We won’t be returning!

We as a group of 8 had various pitza and carvery.tye let down is the pitza collection system whereby you have a pager and then have to collect you food from the counter top where it has Sat for several minutes you then have to ask for a plate to collect your salad from the cart, not the most of variety, far short of the harvester outlets.there were staff floating about checking on you who there for could have speedily bought the food over to you whilst you had already fetched your salad, don't think I will rush back here any time soon and save it for a carvery

Our first visit & what a lovely, warm & friendly welcome 😬 A cosy local with heated & covered courtyard area. We all had delicious crusty-filled rolls, chips & pork pie 😋😋 Rest of the menu & theme nights look great too, just wish we lived closer & it was our local !! Betsy, Bert & Toby ( the dogs) loved the treats too. Thanks for your hospitality, nothing was too much trouble & see you again soon.
