Ivy House in South Staffordshire

After having a couple of takeaway Sunday lunches from here and being very impressed, we thought that we would visit to sample their daytime menu And we are glad that we did, my wifes' chicken in BBQ sauce with cheese and bacon was lovely, i had the steak and ale pie, we both upgraded to the home made chips, and it proved to be a good choice, everything was first class, and my wife declared the gravy that came with my pie was the best she had ever tasted I also had a pint of the Hobgoblin pale ale which was superb Service was excellent and with the offer of 2-1 on main meals on a Tuesday the bill came to £24 with the drinks All in all a lovely meal, lovely beer and great service we will be sure to try again thank you

I attended a funeral lunch today with my husband and the chef heard that I needed a gluten free diet. He personally came to the table to tell me that he would prepare a gf plate of food for me. I told him not to go to any trouble but 10 mins later was presented with the most amazing BBQ wings, pizza toasties and mushrooms on toast. My husband shook his hand and I cannot thank that lovely chef and the staff enough. Thank you so so much.

A regular haunt for us. They staff are always welcoming and are particularly lovely to my aging parents. Service is always good. As is the food. We use the place for weekday lunches and don't need to book in advance. Great place.

Booked a table a few weeks ago for tonight. When we arrived we were seated, not in the main restaurant but upstairs at a high table that we found very uncomfortable. We asked for an alternative table but was told none were available. Service was very slow, and we had to constantly go and find staff to chase everything. After our main courses we waited an age for the dessert menu, and again we had to chase it. Once we got it and eventually ordered desserts, we were told the oven was off so we couldn't have what we had chosen. The food was very good, however the service was very poor. So all in all a bit disappointing.

Been here three times now, had the pub menu and the Indian menu. Food has been amazing each visit. Staff are great. Highly recommend.

This was Sunday lunch takeaway its our second time ordering, within 20 minutes our food arrives, very well packaged and ready to plate up , Great sunny lunch will 100% be ordering again 😋

I came here with my family on recommendation from a friend. A young lady with a pierced tongue served us (didn't get a name) and she was professional and friendly at all times . The food was excellent,fresh and piping hot. It has a good choice on the menu. Will definitely 💯 it to friends.

First time here and definitely won't be the last. The landlady Tina and her staff were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The service was excellent, the food was plentiful, fresh and piping hot.

My husband and our friend had Gammon, it was over cooked, dry and crispy , my friend , his wife ,and I had the sweet chilli Chicken Sizzler, it came nothing like it was on the menu, only 2 slices of chilli , raw onion in with fried onions, it wasn’t sizzling at all , we were told it had to settle as the smoke from them would cause the fire alarms to go off !! And it was against health and safety to walk through restaurant with them , due to small children, which there was only a small child in a high chair ! My friend asked for hers to be taken back to be heated again, we told the waitress, they shouldn’t be on the menu if they can’t be served as a sizzler . The waitress’s attitude throughout, was horrible, bombastic, the girl serving drinks , needed to smile , she was miserable! The pub also could with a much needed refurb . We definitely won’t be going back and we won’t recommend the ivy house !!

I left a glowing Xmas review. But we won't be back after today. We ordered a plant based roast to be told there was non after twenty minutes, but a non discrit faux chicken burger was offered. We had to wait for 50 minutes for our meal. We were sat in what l call the corridor to the bar although there was room in the main room. While we were be there, a procession of just eat guys waiting for their orders kept appearing. It felt as if we were in a Chinese takeaway. So a Sunday lunch was a washout,no ambience. Thanks for your past meals but so long.

An excellent experience all round. Food was delicious, a relaxed, friendly atmosphere in a beautiful setting and special thanks to Hassan for providing first class service.

Cosy little place with an old'e world feel about it. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and only too happy to help. I have coeliac disease, so have to eat gluten free food, there's several options on the menu for me to choose from, I opted for the belly pork which was delicious. Prices are reasonable, possibly not the cheapest around, but then the quality of the food on offer is good, and the portion sizes seem generous. Free parking with ample spaces, and a great view out over the fields which can be enjoyed from the beer garden. All in all a great place to go for a meal out, will definitely be returning.

JUNE 2024 update. Went for a lovely meal with husband, easy to walk to from Bloxwich, plenty of parking spaces though if you're in a car, and a lovely beer garden with views over the fields. Great place to have lunch or dinner. Nice menu to choose from with a good selection of vegetarian options, I had scampi and homemade chips with garden peas and salad, scampi was delicious, peas a little hard but ok. Husband had the beef, cheese and bacon burger with homemade chips and salad. TV screen in restaurant section showing football for anyone interested. It was pretty quiet and easy to get a table just walking in. Staff lovely. A nice pub to visit. Definitely recommend. November 2022. A group of 15 us had lunch today, sent our food choices previously, all good, came out hot, well cooked and together, can't fault it. Nice staff. Lovely local pub. November 2023 update, another big group lunch today, orders sent in before day. After waiting for a latecomer for a good while all meals came out quickly and hot, waitress was friendly and there was no rush for us to eat quickly even though we'd started later than planned. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food, I personally would have had my liver cooked for less time and some pieces were rather hard, but it was tasty with lovely onion gravy and mash. My apple pie and cream was delicious. Unfortunately, the brownie ordered by a friend was very hard, maybe, as the waitress explained because they were gluten free or because it had cooled while waiting for extra custard, or just overcooked, I'm not sure. Overall, a nice lunch out in good company.

Customer service is non existent, ordered a steak medium rare, it came medium/well. Sent it back . Manger came out and told me the chef said I was wrong it was medium/rare. As the son of. “Stockman” I grew up around meat and steaks and have been brought up how a steak should be cooked. On the plus side it was a nice cut, just over cooked by two temperatures

Me and my friends enjoyed a bottomless brunch yesterday. Can't rate it enough, the food was delicious and we had to take lots home. Cocktails were amazing, not watered down like on other "bottomless brunches". Great value for money, will definitely be back

Came for tea as a family pub was bust but staff accommodated us , member of staff came over and took our drinks order , then came over and took our food order , my daughter had the lasagne which came with a little side salad and garlic bread , the comment she made was it was lovely and cheesy , my husband had the surf and turf and asked for his steak to be cooked rare , he said it was the best steak he had eaten in a long time , I myself went for the new jersey chicken which was to die for it was so tasty it was a chicken beast with bacon and cheese and pulled pork with bbq sauce it was so tasty, don't be put off with the petty comments about the food we have been a few times now and food been delicious and staff are so friendly well done team

Very good food. The curries are amazing. Limited cask ale,but what they have is well kept. Pleasant atmosphere and good beer garden.

They organised a beautiful hot and cold buffet for my Father's wake. Tina was wonderful, she made organising everything so easy. The setting is stunning with beautiful views over the fields. Excellent food quality, fantastic service from girls in the bar and restaurant, they really helped to bring some joy to a very sad day. We can't recommend this place enough. Thank you ❤️

Regular meal out for us here, just a really nice place with excellent food at a good price. Hassan and the rest of the staff always make us feel welcome and looked after with fantastic service as well.

Went for a lite bite Thursday not impressed after ordering cod chips and peas was informed they were fries not chips 😞 so reordered lasagne and garlic bread so disappointed the tiniest lasagne and 2 small pieces of bread then my friends meal came out with cheese and potato pie and chips when I said about the chips the waiter said they are fries😳which would have been on my first order🙄he did bring me a dish to make up for the mistake maybe retrain him then onto dessert small slice of dry brownie wont be revisting first and last time

Went for lunch after work had the giant Yorkshire with sausages and mash and peas and gravy,it was amazing not tight on the portion size at all and was really tasty,washed down with a pint.Service was great and I didn't have to wait long at all for my meal.Great work guys keep it up 👍

This was quite a quaint little place for a meal as we were staying in Walsall. Very cosy food was good, nice friendly service. Not expensive.

Food was good, had completely run out of the on tap cocktails, and in view of pre booked special occasion this was poor. Also the staff had no personality at all, and really felt they didn't want to be there, which was a shame as this could have been a 5 star otherwise There were 13 of us, and spent well, but may not revisit due to miserable staff.

We ate early and the dining room was very quiet, We were welcomed and shown to our reserved table by a friendly polite waitress , our food , chosen from the English menu was served quickly and we both commented that it was delicious, (new jersey chicken with homemade fries,) all together a very pleasant dining experience .

This place I'd say was average as food was plentiful; though not the best of quality & incorrect order. The spinach/ricotta cannelloni was greasy; though came with lil salad and garlic bread for £11.99. The feta/beetroot tortellini with no garlic bread nor salad would have been £12.99?? Why?? The beef/bacon burger which was supposed to be bacon/cheese- burger was plenty tall, but onion rings were pale and gooey. It did come with salad £12.99. My latte was small and £3.25. The cider was £5.60. Our wait was overly excessive especially since there was few guests. My drink was done long before food arrived; and there were no syrups for hot beverages. The tables were clean, but chairs and benches were stained and crumb -laden. We probably wouldn't choose a repeat visit sadly. It was £33.83.

The hubby surprised me with lunch in here, we had starters and then scampi and the mushroom risotto. The starters were a tiny portion and when we queried it with the waitress they had thought we were having the specials lunch (although we specifically ordered of the main menu) The waitress did apologise and we got an extra portion with the mains ! When the mains arrived ( bearing in mind you have to pay an extra £1.99 if you want homemade chips not frozen) it was ok-see pictures, the scampi was just a frozen scampi nothing amazing nothing terrible. BUT the mushroom risotto was not good at all it tasted like boiled rice with a tin of condensed mushroom soup in, it was grey and the mushrooms were non existent. I ate some of it as it was so expensive but it wouldn’t be something I would recommend.

Visit this pub/restaurant it has a friendly atmosphere . service, which was good. We had curry, which was very good made for the English pallette, the price was reasonable

This pub is everything a pub should be. The staff are friendly and the food is excellent. The curries are on par with the best Indian restaurant I’ve ever been to. Last night my husband and I decided on steak for a change. It was as good if not better than Miller and Carter. Their chunky home cooked chips are amazing!

Spur of the moment decision to go out for tea , phoned the pub and got a table reservation for myself , my hubby and my daughter. When we got there was shown to our table the waiter came over and took our drinks order. Then he came back and took our food order , I had a chicken pakora starter and they was the best I have tasted the flavour was delicious and piping hot , the mains then came out I had chicken tikka massala , chips , naan bread and my hubby had the tandoori mixed grill with massala chips , daughter just had Cheesy chips and cheesy garlic bread . The food was piping hot and delicious the chips are homemade not frozen total bill was £63 for 3 of us including drinks will definitely go here again and try something else

We heard it was taken over so thought we would try it again. Glad we did the atmosphere was good and it was lovely and warm in there. We had the Sunday roast and was not disappointed. I had Turkey and the others had Beef and we all enjoyed the meal. Service was good and food was hot didnt keep us waiting for to long. We will definitely go back so glad we decided to go back now theres new owners.

Have been going here for a while...its changed hands...I asked for a child's Sunday lunch as I don't have a big appetite..was refused said only for under 16s!!! So had the adults and left half ..what a waste...no atmosphere..only one person working as the girls were busy putting up Christmas decorations...don't think I'll be going again..

First time here and was dubious regarding the extensive menu but I was not disappointed, the food was faultless and tasty, the service, exceptional. Will be back soon

Excellent food. Menu is extensive. We have tried the superb Indian food and the traditional English food. They are always freshly prepared with fresh ingredients and piping hot. The staff are lovely, very friendly and happy to help. They do different deals on different nights, so it’s worth checking them out before you book. Highly recommend.

A really lovely evening at the New Ivy House. Despite living close we had never been here before, but we’ll definitely be going again. The food was really good and the service friendly. We didn’t feel rushed and were able to enjoy the atmosphere.

I am Coeliac, I specifically called to check that Gluten Free chips were going to be available, as even though advertised they were not available on a previous visit. So tonight I ordered the chips and was advised that the fryer might have been used for gluten containing foods. This is just unacceptable, surely the fryer should be labelled appropriately. I do wonder if all other precautions are followed for allergies in general. So I will not be visiting again as it spoiled my night, my meal was not nice with bland rice 😡

Went in at lunch time, served quickly, food was beautiful, we had the 2 course for £9.99 good value, Demi served us and was lovely and very polite, got the little one crayon’s to colour while we waited.

Dropped in Thursday lunch time. Got a table and bought the menus. A nice varied menu. Staff were lovely and very helpful. The food came, piping hot was lovely cooked and presented well. Will definitely be returning

The portions are large, this is the place to eat if you have a good appetite. I had the pork belly it was slightly over cooked but still very good, my wife had a beef sizzler which was also very good. The staff were all very attentive especially Grace.

Tasty!!Me and my partner went for the Indian menu,we had the sharing platter,and wow it was amazing the food was cooked fresh it was hot and probably one of the best Indians round and the price only £19.95 and we was full.Shame no room for dessert as they looked really tasty,.Staff are friendly and welcoming. This is our second time doing the bottomless brunch here and it’s unbeatable great food (lots of it) and constant flow of drinks. If you are lucky enough to be there when Sam is working even better!

Belly pork was amazing the biggest peace of pork I've ever had cooked to perfection 🥰 wife had surf and turf huge meal for the money 💰 steak was cooked blue how she liked 👍

We have visited the New Ivy several times with my father-in-law, who is a resident in the care home across the road. Today we took him to celebrate his 94th birthday. The two members of staff on duty treated him like royalty, and made sure he had a wonderful time. The food was great, and very reasonably priced. We took a cake, and the staff provided candles and sparklers to accompany it. He was very moved when everyone sang ‘happy birthday’ to him. A huge ‘thank you’ and well done!

Having been a loyal customer of the Ivy House for many years and recommended it on many occasions I must be honest about my visit on 14th July. Service and greeting by lovely girls was as always faultless but my menu choice was beyond shocking! 'Black Country Stack' costing £12... returned twice and eventually deducted from my bill. Burnt to a cinder. Completely inedible! I have read it is under new management?? If this be the case the skills of the chef cooking very, very basic food is questionable!!! The waitresses couldn't apologise enough and I feel were embarrassed. I have given one star for food as it isn't possible to score no stars. I'm not sure if I'll return to what I've always considered my 'local gem'.

We recently had my dads wake at this venue and was really disappointed the staff where not friendly or had no empathy considering we had just come back from my dad's funeral. The food was also disappointing it had been left out all day uncovered and there was no utensils to pick the food up this was off putting as people where using there hands to pick the food up which is very unhygienic. Unfortunately due to this we will not be recommending or returning here. This is not what we expected from this venue especially for such a sad event.

Didn't try food but have to say this place has a lovely atmosphere and the staff are very friendly, prices are very competitive.

Just come back from Sunday lunch. We ordered 1 Turkey, 1 Beef and 1 Cumbernauld Sausage the veg was sent back twice as it was too hard to chew. No taste very bland and all in all very disappointing. Will not be returning and will certainly not be recommending. On our way out we were stopped by an elderly couple who said they had been going for lunch for over 30 years and they were also discussed with the food that was being served.

Great range of options across two menus which we all thoroughly enjoyed.
