Stopped off on way home rather late into lunchtime and they were able to accommodate us. Excellent belly pork roast with extra veg and gravy on the side. Thank you. It was delicious!

Just to say that we had one of the best Sunday lunches ever. Generous portions , well cooked and beautifully presented. Fun and welcoming staff members and some excellent cask ales. We did have some amazing ice cream for desert which also deserves a mention. Clearly some folk had issues with parking, which is baffling with so many clear notice’s displayed. We thoroughly recommend The Barge Inn.

Had a late lunch for 6. The food was exceptional . Lovely presentation. Hot , tasty . Each had a different choice all agreed we had a fantastic meal & drinks . A special thanks to Claire . Her service skills were excellent . We were aware that she took our order but also recalled who had ordered which meal & presented us each with the correct food without asking . Very chatty , added to our hugely enjoyable experience . Many thanks

****CAR PARK SCAMMERS***** and rude staff!! I visited last this month and spent money on Sunday lunch, and today received a £100 parking fine!! I called to the pub and staff were very rude. I spoke to Marina, and she put the phone down on me mid-call when I explained why I was unhappy. This is a profiteering racket, with rude staff. The Barge Inn refused to lift the parking fine, even though it is their land and they dictate the terms for their parking contractors. Beware of this racket.

Had a wonderful Sunday lunch today at The Barge Inn. The food was delicious and plentiful and freshly cooked - beautiful. Three of us had a roast and one Fish and Chips and they were all excellent. Great service too and loved the wide choice of Ciders behind the Bar. Read a lot of moaning reviews about the car park charge. There are soooooo many notices outside and inside the pub about remembering to log your car reg number when you arrive. Just can't understand how these people missed them? We'll def be back

Parking fine! Stopped here for a drink by the canal. Lovely setting. Purchased 2 drinks and some crisps. Stayed 34 mins. I’ve been charged a fine for parkin because we didn’t enter our registration into their system. A system that presumably is used to ensure that only pub customers use the car park. Apparently there is adequate signage in the car park but i didn’t see it and neither did my husband. So we contacted the pub and sent proof of our drink/snack purchase to prove we were paying customers and we thought that would suffice to show we had parked there for genuine reason… but they rejected our appeal and say we must pay! We are disgusted. 34 mins we parked there for.. and purchased drinks and snacks & proved so by receipts. Greedy and unfair. Beware! Won’t return.

£14 for small fish and chips, OMG it was small, 6 chips and piece of fish the same size as a buttered sausage, it was suitable for a six-year-old. My mother ordered this small Caesar salad which was just a very small bowl of lettuce leaves and she had to pay another £4 for four small pieces of chicken again suitable for a six-year-old, if you like to be overcharged and under fed, I can recommend this place. Rip off

Parked in pub car park, happily chatting walking into the pub, meeting family sitting in rear pub garden for early evening food and drinks, thinking the car park was for customer use only to then receive a £100 car parking fine weeks later and if paid early reduces to £60. NO ONE working at the pub asked us if we arrived by car and should complete their digital car registration form. We have never had to be on the look out in any pub car parks previously when having food and drinks as a customer. Completed the smart parking fine appeal form explaining on that day/time we were at the pub as a customer and supplemented with the necessary pub receipts as evidence - the appeal was rejected (shocked!) requesting either pay the fine or follow another route to appeal. We have now contacted the pub email parking.publeisure@gmail.com for their assistance to help resolve. Pub email received says ‘not to pay the fine’ and instead provide details over to them to cancel the fine. Staff here need to, out of courtesy, raise to all customers on arrival!

You know when you can’t put your finger on it… I don’t know why I didn’t love this place, but I didn’t. Great location. Especially if you’re boating. The menu had a pizza selection plus other meals ie burgers, fish & chips, and other things like salmon and a beef stroganoff. But I thought it was a boring menu, with little choice. I had ham egg and chips - it was alright. But not ooh that was fabulous, really tasty. The staff more interested in each other than the customers. One of the waitresses was nice but the others aloof. Might have been an off day but not sure I’ll give them a second chance. Go on past and go to The Lock Inn I’d say.

Fabulous food and a lovely setting :) we went as vegans and the choices were limited but enough and the quality of the food was excellent. The sauces on offer added to the flavours and the staff were very helpful. Only point I would say is the tables felt a bit sticky so maybe a different cleaning product? Outside of that I would definitely come again :)

We visited the Barge Inn on the way back from a walk in the brecon beacons. I was disappointed to be hit with a £100 parking fine a month later from their own car park!!! After contacting the Barge in to discuss the charge, I was further enraged to learn that "oh this happens all the time. We forgot to tell you to log your vehicle registration" I am now left with the awkward situation of requesting a bank statement from my father-in-law, evidencing the procurement of horrendous beer and flat cider to pass to Smart Parking. Will not be visiting again.

We ate here last night. We were greeted and served by a lovely friendly lady. The pub is cosy with a lovely open fire. The menu was nice and varied with plenty of choice. The service was quick and the food was amazing. We had the Mackerel fish cakes and the pork belly and the pie of the day followed by the crumble of the day and the cheesecake. All the food was delicious and beautifully presented with generous portions. There is a good sized car park but you must remember to register your car registration number as soon as you arrive but there is no problem remembering this as there's a massive sign on the entrance door. We had a lovely evening with great food and great service and would definitely recommend.

Rang to book. Put on hold by automatic system, phone rang for a few minutes until someone answered and immediately shouted down the phone "stop ringing continually no ones here to answer, someone will ring you back" and slammed the phone down. Wow! How unbelievably rude! Obviously no-one rang back either. Avoid with a barge pole unless you want to be shouted at!

Were passing through the area and fancied eating out. Had the pizzas, which were ok but wished that I had chosen something more pub traditional from the menu as these seemed to be the most popular things in the reviews. Was surprised that the pub was empty at 6.30/7 ona Saturday night, we were the only diners at one point. Comment from another reviewer giving a 1* seems harsh given they didn't comment on the food and there are CLEAR signs saying if you enter the car park you need to register your vehicle on the keypad at the bar. Only real downer was that the dining area was rather chilly, even with the fire burning away. Probably because the pub was empty maybe? Staff attentive and friendly 👍

Been to the Barge Inn previously and although it’s got run down in the last 6 years we went back in the summer and the pizzas were awesome. So today I thought I’d take my family there for lunch. Upon arrive the one member of staff appeared polite, however after asking for a menu and asking if they still done the pizza the staff member replied in such a disgusting manner and tutting. When replied you do not have to be rude, we were only asking a question, she rolled her eyes, tutted and said ‘Well look on the menu’. After returning to my table I decided to take my family to a more welcoming place to have an enjoyable family lunch where the customers were respected. Upon leaving I returned the menus to the bars explaining we were going to eat somewhere else. Again the staff member rolled her eyes, gave me a dirty looked and huffed as I walked out! The Barge Inn, if that’s how you treat your customers no wonder there was only 1 other table in for lunch at 12.30. Whether this was a staff member or the owner I shall definitely not be returning.

We stayed at The Barge Inn, Bradford on Avon for one night on our road trip. Our first impressions were that the whole place was disgustingly dirty. Windows, floors, walls and doors. I was hesitant to touch anything . The hallway and staircase and carpet up to the rooms was filthy and actually stank. The room itself was actually okay, but so not worth the money. We were relieved that we hadn’t included breakfast. To see staff eating mush and with their headphones on as we passed by them was awful and truly unacceptable. We had no alternative so tried to make the best of this. So we had a drink outside before we headed into town for the evening. To be honest, the garden was an unpleasant place to be and again very dirty and unkempt. The garden furniture was actually unacceptably sticky and revolting. In my opinion (only, I accept) The Barge Inn needs new management or at least someone who actually really cares. At the very least it needs a complete refurbishment and deep clean. It’s such a shame. The position is rather lovely by the canal and has wonderful potential. As it is I would say, do not stay here

To be avoided like the plague. Received a parking fine although I signed in. The management say they will sort out fines if you prove you were a customer. I submitted the evidence but I received nothing but automated replies. There is no doubt it has gone down hill recently; it is shabby and looks run down. The garden which used to be great place to eat and drink in the summer is now untended and the shabby tables are caked in bird droppings. Really sad to see its demise

Best avoided until under different management/ownership. Used to stay here 2/3 nights a week a few years ago and was a thriving well run pub with rooms, sadly no more. No WiFi (and hasn’t been for some time), communal areas and bar furniture are filthy, tables so sticky had to put paper down. Room was OK. Our experience with this property is one of utter disgust. My main issue is due to the lies that have been told since requesting a full refund as we felt we could not sleep at the property due to the fumes of gloss paint. Whilst watching a film the smell caused me to have a headache and feel sick. When reporting this and asking for an alternative room the person who I dealt with, who seemed to be in charge on that evening said ‘I cannot do anything about the paint’ I thought this was in itself quite patronising as of course she couldn’t but I said we should have been pre warned and we were not. I am asthmatic also. When we first got to our room, we had to call the same lady up to our room to sort the tv as this was not working and also pointed out to her that a floor tile on the bathroom was broken and we had had to place a towel over the tile to save our feet and our dogs as this was sharp. She sorted the tv, but she seemed to be aware of the tile, which to be honest wasn’t great but small issue so we stayed. We only left due to the paint smell. My husband was advised to contact booking.com as I was looking for a refund as we could not stay overnight. Booking.com spoke with the property and to our complete shock they said we were pre warned about the paint ! This is absolutely rubbish as we were not. Furthermore, it was said that my husband has said we were happy with the room, not really as we had already complained about the TV and the tile so no not 100% happy. If, the property had come back with an apology or any empathy etc and offered a part refund I probably would have accepted but they have refused a refund at all and lied to say we had been told about the paint. Furthermore, contradicted themselves, when speaking with Steph who works in the property to say she wasn’t aware the property had been painted so, if that’s the case why would they have pre warned us. Within my profession I understand all about customer service and the way this property has acted is disgusting. To completely lie is outrageous and I am very shocked ! Also when asking who I would need to send an email to to write a complaint Steph would only provide me with a first name, Beth and refused to provide me with her second name and email address! I will continue to pursue this matter and now even more so because of the barefaced lies. Such a shame as really needed to get away to relax. Food was lovely but very patronising staff and liars too. The whole point of an overnight stay, weekend stay is to be able relax. I wasn’t able to due to the gloss smell.

It took ages to order at the outside bar and took 50 minutes for our food to come out. It wasn't overly busy but they only had 2 waiting/barstaff on and only 2 chefs cooking. Our order also wasn't complicated at all. When the food came it was actually cold but we and especially our 18month old son were starving so we needed to just eat.The women's toilets were pretty disgusting too. Shame as this place has massive potential but others were complaining as we left, so I fear for a place that on the surface doesn't seem bothered post Covid.

Eventually they acknowledged us and told us there is a parting system in place. Seems they do check their reviews. We asked for a table for lunch and were shown to one. Once sat I noticed there were steep ladders set up and a tin of paint and paintbrush on a stool. This did not make for a nice environment to eat a meal in. We ordered food and drinks. The chefs could be heard singing loudly along to the radio in the kitchen. Our food came out and was well presented. It did taste nice but the ambience put us off a little. We had already commented to one another that the desserts read really well on the menu. No one came to check our food was to standard and eventually after waiting a long time we had to ask for our plates to be cleared. Everyone we looked over the waiting staff were on their mobiles. At no time did I see any signs regarding parking. i was on site for 13 mins and received a parking ticket. I contacted the pub who said to email the manager, which I did, only to be told nothing could be done. Having worked with parking companies I know the pub can use its discretion and cancel tickets. I did appeal, but got nowhere. If this is how this company treats people, they need to look again at what customer service is. Word of mouth goes a long way, as do bad reviews. Just be careful not to fall ill near this pub! I would have used this as a stopover on my travels but not after this!

Called here with friends for a drink. Didn’t think anymore until a few weeks later I received parking ticket. Apparently you have to give the staff your registration number on entry. The staff didn’t mention anything and we were completely unaware of parking restrictions. Thankfully I paid for my drinks on my phone so had a receipt.I went back to the Barge and the staff were very apologetic, they said new staff had forgotten to tell customers of the new parking retrictions. We were told to appeal and it would be repealed. Not a chance! Lost the appeal and within 2 weeks received a bailiffs threatening notice for £170 .Is this how you treat your customers? Absolutely shocking . We are a group of 14 friends, all local who will never return here.

So to begin menu arrived - covered in food and was literally disgusting How a menu can be handed out like that especially in these Covid times is beyond me Had to use sanitizer to use ( see photos ) We ordered , but the food came out separately????So when though we ordered two dishes my husband and I couldn’t eat together This coupled with an eye sore of uncut grass , broken furniture meant this was our first and last visit Such a beautiful spot that is ruined by all this

We called last minute to ask them to accommodate a party of 16. They were happy to help us. We were welcomed and asked to wait while our table was set up. Orders were taken quickly and drinks arrived swiftly. When food was ordered we were quickly advised there would be a little wait as so many of us had ordered fish and chips and they had just two fryers! we were all happy as we were told, not just left waiting. A member of our party has allergies. our server, Josie ordered alternatives so that he could enjoy his meal without missing out. One member of our party questioned the bill (quite rudely, we are so sorry for his behaviour) but it was dealt with quickly. The food was excellent. Freshly cooked, crispy fish and lovely skin on chips. The minted crushed pea were great. Everything was clearly homemade and full of flavour. The Pizza was huge and nearly defeated a very hungry 18 year old! Most memorable was the service by Josie - thank you for making our visit. A couple of people in the party didn't make your life easy, but you breezed though without any fuss. Thank you so much for making this the perfect meal to end a perfect few days our group spent together - it was a post wedding day chill day and finished things off perfectly.

Stopped here for a snack and drink after being out walking. The beer (Otter bright) was great, as was the service. The food however was appalling. The Blackened greasy offering that was advertised as "cheesy topped" chips is on the photo, for you to judge for yourself.I returned the food and the waitress said "I will show the chef" I heard no more!

I'm not going to review the actual pub here but rather the carpark.I will quite happily remove this review once it has been resolved. After visiting the pub in May as a genuine customer received a PCN from Smart Parking (£60 or £100 if not paid promptly). Smart Parking like most Parking Management companies have an extremely poor reputation. I personally believe that of you wish to drive down your review scores and drive away customers from your business then team up with Smart Parking.A large proportion of the one star reviews for this pub are because customers received a £60/£100 fine for the privilege of parking.I have, of course gone through the process of proving that drinks were purchased on the night of the alleged crime (of parking in their carpark), but sadly my appeal was lost and my fine now stands at £100. £100 for a pint is a bit steep, don't you think? I know times are hard, but this is no way to treat your customers. It is now 6 weeks since the alleged offence and still unresolved. The pub management have assured me that the matter will be sorted but after 6 weeks I'm beginning to lose faith. If you've got this far then well done. My advice please choose a pub that actually treats it's customers like customers and not criminals. My advice to the Barge do not use private parking companies to mange your parking, they are not remotely interested in the interests of you or your customers they just want our money.

Stayed here for one night as a stop off on way to Bournemouth. The plus points are the loacation. Most of the staff. And breakfast. The place looks nice from outside but inside it really does need a revamp. Carpets up the stairs are terrible. Cleanliness in room was not the best but bed and sheets where fine. We really did have a great nights sleep. Breakfast was very good. This place has so much potential , there’s signs of them updating stuff. Out side. New benches etc. Drinks are reasonable It’s a nice 10 min stroll into town. For what we payed B and B it was overall very gd value.

We arrived at around 7.30 and sat down. Drinks were served immediately and food order was taken. We could see three members of staff at the bar who just appeared to be chatting most of the time. After 30 minutes we asked if our food would be ready soon and were told they were extremely busy and food would be delayed. There was one other table sat in the section we were in. After another 15 minutes our food arrived. Food was ok. We were not offered further drinks and had to approach the bar to ask for the bill. We were told the till was down and they would have to find out bill. We waited another 10 minutes before the waitress brought it over to us.

The service was appalling. The waitress didn’t seem to care and ignored requests for menus, always promising to bring menus and not bringing them. She said they were very busy, but it took 15 minutes for 2 pints to arrive at lunchtime today and then 45 minutes for 2 toasted ciabattas to arrive. They didn’t seem to be that busy, there were still quite a few empty tables around. The menus were not one use paper menus but laminated, as customers were just collecting themselves as they were fed up with asking for them, they were unlikely to have been sanitised between customers. We were sat by the canal, where there were about 8 tables. Due to the lack of service, 2 of those tables walked out.The food when it arrived was good, the problem was the complete lack of service and the insincerity of the waitress.

We only had one night here, but found it so relaxing and special. The room had everything needed, although the decor was in need of an update. The stair carpet up to the room should be replaced though. Loved the option of sitting by the canal, or in a sunny garden. Bar staff couldn't be friendlier, even though drinks expensive.

The Sunday roast if you can call it that was terrible first the beef was rubbery you could have wore it on your shoes and it was burnt. The parsnips where chewy hard yuk roast potatoes hard inedible. The stuffing ball was black tasted disgusting you would not throw that in the canal because the fish would have thrown it back. I will never eat there again. You have been warned.

Made a mistake to choose this venue for a family evening meal last Sunday evening. I guess I should have known all was not good when ask to pay up front for the round of drinks we had just ordered. Similar upfront payment requirement after ordering mains and puddings.Service was slow even for drinks (over 20 minutes), however when the mains were brought, my grandson’s pizza meal was covered with feta cheese which was not on the menu. The waitress argued that the menu listed the pizza with a feta cheese topping. The on-line menu clearly showed that it did not, which is why we had chosen that option! Eventually was promised a refund, but as yet, I have not seen any money. Grandson ate items from other plates on our table of 7. We were not supplied with any napkins, so we requested some. They were eventually delivered, all 4 of them for a table of 7?? Finally, the grandkids wanted ice cream for pudding which were ordered along with one other pud, all of which was paid ahead again. How can it take 45 minutes to put together 3 puddings, 2 of which came straight from a freezer?I am aware business has been tough for these industries, but this is really appalling and as a consequence, this business will not get any further money from me or my family.

Do not go here. Vomit in gents toilet was left uncleaned so others were then walking it all over the floor outside the toilets but then also got a £60 parking ticket despite being a guest of the pub. No easily visible signage about this and pub staff don't warn you about this. AVOID

You can spend time and money in here and not once be told to register your vehicle. Then a few weeks later you get a £60 fine for being less than a minute over the two hours that we didn't even know existed! No help whatsoever from the pub or parking company they've sold out to, even when proof of being there was given. AVOID.

Four of us arrived here for drinks. We were told to take a seat and view the menu online. The seats in the outdoor garden are mostly rotten and we had to change tables twice before we found a stable one. We sat there for over 20 minutes waiting for service which never came so we left. Seems the guys that work here have a chip on their shoulder. I don't know why, the place looks a complete mess. Surely during lockdown, they would have had chance to tidy it up! And, which other pub asks you to register your car for parking! This place doesn't deserve to survive if they continue to treat their customers with contempt.

As much as they want to protest, the food choices are exteremely limited, the portions are small and the service was very slow, up to 30 minutes to arrive. We let this slide as we were just happy to be out, and as a group spent near £300 at the venue. And to top off all of this poor service they sting us with a £60 parking fine for a person who came to pick us up afterwards and the pub showed absolutely no interest in resolving this situation. The only thing they have been active in is trying to suppress this review

With the current situation it could be understood that those places lucky enough to be able to open would relish having customers. Not here. Staff not bothered, management not bothered and as for the food, I cook better at home in a microwave. Get a grip, stop being so cheap clean the place up and remind your staff that no customers means no wages. This place has been consistently bad and obviously using its outside seating area to appeal. Once other indoor places open this place will struggle. They must be selling it, cheap and vulgar

Popped in for a drink on Monday night. Plenty on the bar to choose from, nice selection of Lillies Cider on offer which was awesome. Prices were very good for food and drink. Menu had a nice selection on it. Good clear directions for customers, following the Covid 19 rules. Two different garden options to sit in, which was lush. Right next to the canal or in the walled garden. Both had the pros and cons. Canal view was beautiful, but tables were very wobbly and a little uncomfortable. Very windy, so wrap up warm if you prefer the scenic views. Walled garden has solid tables, comfortable. Shelter from the wind. But obviously no scenic view. You can see straight into the kitchen, depending on what side of the table you sit. Only a little bit disappointed to see chefs walking around with no head protection on, hats or nets. It is a lovely place. The team there were very friendly and helpful. Look forward to the next visit.

Went for lunch with my husband. Food was ok..not brilliant. The staff which served us could have been a lot friendlier. We got our food but had to asked for knife and forks... salt and napkins. .. but by the time they came out with it the food was cold. I was meant to have a melted cheese melt but the cheese definitely was cold and hasn't been heated. We have the 2 girls money for our meals and drink but we had to ask for our change, one girl hesitated with her hand in her apron and all of a sudden she gives us our receipt and change. It was like they didn't want to be there. Apart from that.. it was nice to sit in front of the canal

Considering pubs were closed for a few months why couldn't the landlord/lady seriously give this place a clean ready for opening. its such a nice place, but needs staff and TLC. like other reviews we visited a couple of weeks ago and there was only one member of staff serving food and serving the bar which often led to the bar unaccompanied. as a former landlord/pub manager. should never leave a bar unaccompanied!.. it leads to long queues and frustrated customers. we didn't eat, just drank, but please sort the toilets out they were awful and you needed to wear welly boots as there was so much water. there is a baby changing mat in the mens but i would not have changed the baby in an open sewer!needs some money spent on it- i guess its hard as had no income for a while, but bare necessaties etc etc

We booked a room here for two nights (Tuesday and Wednesday) as part of a mini-break. Bradford on Avon is a gorgeous small town on the banks of the Avon river and the Kennet and Avon canal, and the Barge Inn is on the canal side. As with all pubs, the Barge have had to adjust their way of serving customers, but this was easily visible and easy to follow. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The first room we were given didn't have a WiFi signal (I know; first world problems!!), so we were quickly moved to another room that did. The two days of our stay were lovely; the staff were always friendly, helpful and very polite. The beer garden was extensive, with plenty of covered areas, and the canal-side stretch was well maintained (there were some worrying reviews about this area that were unfounded when we stayed) with plenty of benches and sun/rain shades. We had an evening meal and two breakfasts there, and the food was very good. Doom bar and Atlantic Pale Ale on tap as well as a choice of bottled beers, and spirits. The exit to the pub (which I presume was the entrance/exit for accommodation guests before Covid) does need a bit of work. As there is no porch, wet shoes are constantly bringing in rain and mud, so the carpet looks very sorry for itself and there is also a musty odour which may be associated with the canal wharf. It is a nice place to stay, and very picturesque with flagstone floors and solid wood boards, as well as local stone walls and doorways.

Very friendly staff, but really disappointed with the food. Lack of any real ales. We ordered a bread board and chicken liver pate starter which was fine. However my daughter's kids meal was tiny and she said that the chicken nuggets were tough and tasted soapy, me and my other daughter had the burgers which were okay but I suspect that they ran out of onion chutney as it had what looked like a cranberry sauce which was very sweet. Still this wasn't that bad, however my wife ordered what I wanted originally until I was informed that the dish had changed. It was supposed to be a Moroccan lamb rump, it had very little Moroccan spices and was frankly disgusting, tough meat and really greasy. We thought that if we'd had to pay the full price (instead of eat out to help out price) we would have been really disappointed and probably complained.

I think when you opt to eat breakfast in a supermarket cafe there aren’t expectations of gourmet food. However I think there are standards you should be able to expect and Morrisons spectacularly fell short of even the lowest expectations! My breakfast was just over £11 as I added a couple of extras. Mushrooms were tinned and cold. Tomatoes were chopped tinned and cold. Bacon was lightly warmed in the microwave and came complete with flabby undercooked rind and was covered in white gunk. Sausage was deep fried, and of the quality that even the dog would turn its nose up at. Hash browns were overdone but passable. Toast came cold and chewy with a nice slab of hard butter on top! All this came with a cappuccino that tasted like the machine needed a good clean and service lacking anything close to a smile! I won’t be returning to experience their vile offerings again!

Just been in to the Costa in Solstice park. Waited approximately 5-10 mins. Not even an acknowledgement, service was non existent. One girl making drinks, one carrying items around No one else waiting, just us. We left and went elsewhere. Even a 'won't keep you a minute' would have made us stay. Please think about your customer base. Shocking.

I have a dairy intolerance and was served a meal with butter, slaw and mayonnaise after I had told them about my intolerance. The meal was taken away and I was served a Ham baguette with most of the meat inside being just fat and I found spread in the roll. The mustard turned out to be mayonnaise with mustard seeds in it. My family member asked for Fish and chips yet she was served Fish with French fries. I ended leaving the cafe completely disgusted and will never return.
