The Food had no taste and didn’t look great. The whole restaurant looked like it needed a good clean. I saw The staff eating the leftovers off of the plates. I was up all night with a bad stomach and diarrhoea

The food was 4/5 but the overall experience was a 3/5. The Diet Coke adversidad was poured out of a 2L plastic bottle. The toilets and decor in general are in need of renovation/cleaning. The food was decent

I ordered the tandoori mixed grill, garlic rice and peshwari naan. The food was delicious. A nice atmosphere, and service was good. The prices were a little steep, with the mixed grill coming in at just shy of £17 alone.

Took some friends for the half price Sunday offer. Was busy but the food came reasonably quickly. It was tasty and sensible portions. Staff are friendly and v busy. Def recommend.

Very disappointed. Poor facilities. Curry was very watery, naan bread was very crusty and rice was very dry. Reasonable price saved the day… but wouldn’t go back in a hurry. Suggest you find another restaurant.

The best Indian we have had in Chelmsford. Food was flavourful and good quality. Staff were really friendly and pleasant! Moreover, the 50% off deal is incredible and makes it even more worthwhile! We will defo be going back!

This place is still amazing. The service is quality and the staff are just amazing. Lamb Naga Bhuna is delightful and the Chicken Balti is a guaranteed hit for all.

We visited the balti king with a family 5 as a treat during the 6 weeks holiday. Its a lovely clean, quite restaurant with traditional music playing. The service was of a very high standard and the food was excellent. We each had a thali meal which was piping hot andfull of flavour. We are gourmet society members , which meant we got 50% off which makes it amazing value, the waiter did forget to add this to the bill but it was very quickly rectified so no drama at all, but as always check your bill. Overall an excellent experience and we will most definitely eat here again. Well done .

The outside is not a good advert, very nice inside friendly service and the food was outstanding. Car parking close by in Parkway car park or on the road outside.

Came here to celebrate a family birthday. Chose it instead of another, preferred restaurant as they accepted the gourmet card and thought we might as well try it. Big mistake - food bland, service and knowledge of ingredients poor (does your saag bhaji contain garlic or not?! - ordered one with and one without garlic and two identical-looking dishes turned up - there was some confusion by the waiting staff as to which was the one without garlic, until they finally admitted that it always contains garlic - obviously not prepared fresh then). The 'Kingfisher' beer didn't taste like Kingfisher, the house wine was unpalatable and the whole restaurant (including toilets) looked dilapidated and in desperate need of some re-investment. Won't be returning based upon this experience I'm afraid.

Ordered over the telephone with tastecard. The price was from the dining in menu even though I was ordering a takeaway. So I was told 40 minutes for collection. I got there 5 minutes early and subsequently waited 25 minutes at the restaurant for my food. I'd like the add that I didn't have a large order, only three meals. I'm so disappointed with the amount of time waiting.

I visited earlier this week with my partner, children and mum for dinner. We have used Balti King for many many years so when the Government scheme came in, we knew we wanted to visit during August to support the restaurant during these tough times. We had a nice meal but the lack of music and slow service was a little disappointing. All of the food was nice so when we asked for the bill we were quite happy. I had already seen that the restaurant had signed up to the scheme and also checked it half way through the meal with the waiter who confirmed it. When the bill came through to us and it was £72 (after the discount) I was gobsmacked. My children shared a meal and we had only soft drinks. My partner queried this with them and was told it was correct. When we queried it again more forcefully they advised that only the main meals were half price!!!!! We then had to show them the government website stating it is ALL food and soft drinks. This was embarrassing for us to have to do in front of a restaurant and awful awful service. The bill was then amended to £58 but this was still massively over priced as we did not even have starters. But at this point we just paid and left as were not getting any further with the staff. Please be careful with your bill in this restaurant as the receipts are not clear and they will over charge you big time without you knowing. Sadly they have lost a few very loyal customers due to this when we visited to actually support them.

We have been a few of times and always had great food and great service, we would definitely recommend.

The meal I had was insulting. Prawn curry tasted blander than eggs on toast. It was as if it had come from a tin and was poured over frozen, disgusting rubbery prawns. Miserly portions. Supposed 50% discount meant we got half the amount of food. Asked for sparkling water. A pint of tap water was slapped down in front of me by a surly waiter who barely acknowledged our existence. Had to wait 15 minutes for my water...there is no sparkle anywhere in this place! The decor was like a waiting room in a funeral parlour.

This is the first time in Balti, it is small but very well run, waiters are good, attentive. I was there with a friend, we both enjoy food. Recommended for any occasion

This is by the best curry house in chelmsford. All the staff are polite and friendly,the food is always great. Ive Been using this restaurant 17 years, I've never had a bad curry! Had Top cuzza's everytime!

We always enjoy our meal at the Balti and even better when you have the weekday discount offer. It’s a new restaurant for us to go to with us now visiting it 3 times. Each time we have enjoyed our meal and tried the Chana Bhuna which was a great side dish of spicy chick peas that we would recommend. Good local Indian restaurant.

This is the 2nd time we have had a takeaway from the Balti king and both times it was a welcomed treat! Really tasty food, which hit the spot.

I moved to the Chelmsford area permanently in 2015 and have been warmly welcomed here at the Balti King ever since, with a welcoming "hello Mr bodman". A light atmosphere & reasonable prices really contribute to a great evening, if your dinning in of taking away the food is outstanding. First thing, if you are going to Balti King and are going to pay full price - DON'T. Not because it is bad, but because this is the easiest restaurant to get 50% off in Chelmsford - just google it!Also, another reason not to go Balti King on full price is because it's simply not worth it. Other local restaurants are much much better at full price. At half price however, Balti King is a great cheap treat! I visited with friends and we each had a drink, poppadoms, rice, a main, side, and a naan, and it was £11 each... £11! You can't really go wrong for £11 can you?If you want to go out for a cheap meal, Balti King is a really great option. But bare in mind you will generally will get what you pay for.

The restaurant was quite full when we walked in and I thought that was a good omen. We had poppadoms with mango chutney, onions and not too sure what the yellow/orange sauce was. It definitely was not raita. My wife and I shared a Chicken Jalfrezi and a Chicken Tikka Masala. The Jalfrezi had a slight spicy taste to it whereas the Masala sauce was bland and watery and one piece of chicken was ‘tough’. The complementary chocolate mints did not make up for the Tikka Masala. Service was attentive and the Kingfisher beer went down well.

Fantastic food great price. Lovely service. Half price on sunday ..... Really worth a visit ... Book a table to avoid a lond wait it's a popular place . Takeaway too.....

My favourite Indian restaurant. Food is just the best! Would highly recommend to try king prawn madras.

We had a table booked for 20.30, we arrived and the place was really busy. Had a lovely atmosphere. We were seen straight to our table.

Had a lovely meal here with my family. The restaurant was full which is not a surprise. We used my taste card which gave us a 50% discount on the food. They have great offers on dinning also. Great quality. Friendly atmosphere and great value for money. This will become a regular for us for sure.

I’ve visited this Indian lots of times and keep forgetting to leave a review on trip advisor, I have never had a bad one here, the front and inside looks a little dated but don’t let that bother you as the food is spot on! Very reasonable prices to I would recommend many different dishes here, I over indulge every time.

Had a take away from Balti King Curry had good flavour and I really enjoyed it. Recommend the Korai A+

We saw in a magazine an add for 50% of food bill in a magazine so we thought we would give this restaurant a go... well it started well.. poppadoms were nice the drinks were okay except tonic water Which my mum and I asked for turned out to be soda water ... don’t think the staff could determine the difference. So we ordered food. Mum being a veggie .. her meal was good . She liked her curry .. mine was good more chick pea then chicken but I enjoyed it .. my husbands was a disaster . Very dry and over cooked mixed grill. The manager was apologetic and did take his meal of the bill. I think the 50% off food is a way for getting business but then the quality is let down as they become very busy and also doing takeaways to so the pressure is on . After personal recommendation from friends and family my husband felt let down by his mixed grill as he is a great Indian food lover . So some aspects were good and some need to be Addressed by the owners . But the important thing of the night is that my mum enjoyed her meal as it was a birthday treat for her .

Very good food excellent service and very cheap friendly waiters, nothing too much trouble. Lovely ambience, nice hot food served on hot plates and table food warmers, so you can eat slowly without getting cold. If you order too much as the portions are good, the staff will wrap the remains for take away.

Always great food here and a bonus all food half price on a Sunday and Thursday. Also do half price takeaway any day with a taste card . Would definitely recommend 🙂

Bit of a break since my last visit and am delighted that the quality of the food has not changed. Service as good as ever and absolutely no complaints from any of us with our menu choices. Will be back soon.

Food ok, toilets and steps up to them in need of a serious clean and update but the most annoying thing is the unfriendly service, come guys smile it goes a long way.

Food very average not that cheap unless you have a 50% discount card. Seems to me it's very popular with big group's which are very load and boisterous. Not the place you would take your partner, i felt sorry for a couple who had to put up with all the noise from a rowdy group. Won't be coming back.

Dated & dilapidated restaurant that gives you paper napkins. Toilets are grim with kitchen roll to dry your hands on. Service was very poor with not a smile in sight. Food was very bland, small portions and poor quality, lamb very fatty. Never again for me, lots of other Indian restaurants in close proximity that are a lot better!

It's a very popular restaurant considering it was packed out the service was good & reasonably priced. The food was good the only thing i would complain about was the small portion of rice which wasn't enough for my Madras.

As a family we visited once again this great curry house in Moulsham street, Chelmsford. Always good food,fresh and very tasty. Thursday night has 50% off all food Which helps!!!! Service was okay but not as friendly as normal. That apart a great time and meal was had.

Over the years, me and various family members have gone here many times. We have always been impressed with the food and the food is incredibly cheap if you go Thursday or Sunday (when food is half price!)

Me and the missus have been coming here for years. We love it, it's always top notch whenever you eat here. The staff are really nice people too, really helpful. We often order from here for home delivery, but have been to the restaurant a few times too. The food is reliably good and the prices are good value. The staff are friendly and the service is quick. Throw in the tastecard or their loyalty card, and the price gets even cheaper. I would happily recommend this restaurant.

The Balti King has always been one of my favourite places to eat in Chelmsford. Last week I had the opportunity to stop for a very pleasant evening meal. The restaurant was not as busy as the weekend and the service is friendly and pleasant. I had a small meal and as always the food was very enjoyable. We were able to talk and relax in a comfortable environment.

Sunday night is always busy because it's half price night, it's best to book a table or you could be queueing to get in. The food is reliable and tasty, the service is good and there is plenty of atmosphere.

Service was really good. Setting is classic slightly dated Indian restaurant but the food was lovely. But what elevates this to a 5* was the price - 5 of us ate with a couple of drinks each for £60 - I know there was an offer on that night but it would still have been a bargain. Recommend

I had ordered a meal to be delivered and they got it wrong which I gave them the benefit of the doubt and I thought I'd have a nice romantic night in with my other half and I rang them up again made it clear what we wanted and what we got wasn't what we ordered and to top it off it was cold so I rang them up to complain and they argued with us saying we didn't ask for what we wanted so balti king should not be high on TripAdvisor they are rude and useless will definitely not be using them again

Been here several times over the years and the food is always great and the staff are very friendly. It's a strong Indian restaurant in Chelmsford. Tip - they have different deals on certain days so check them out.

A restaurant that we visit frequently simply because the food flavours are excellent. We were not let down this time either and everyone enjoyed their varied selections and the good table service (even though at the time of our visit they were experiencing comms problems with their kitchen which is on a different floor level). Only a change of chef (for the worse)could affect our visit.

Placed drink order. Drink come flat and with just one ice cube. Didn't bother ask for another just stuck with it. Placed door order. Sheek kebab Starter arriv d in 5 minutes but was over cooked slightly and just warm like it was heated in a microwave. Main dish come and the jalfreiz was ok but defiantly in the lowest rankings of all the jalfrizies I've had. The rice was nice but the potion was tiny so I had to order another one after eating just 30% of the main dish. Side dish bhajies were nice but the inside was still wet and doughy. Also manger had a go at the staff in front of every one after finding something on the floor and very loudly scraping it off. A BIt hit and miss today. Will give it another go but if like then then will not return.

Me & my family adore this place. Have been using it for a few years now & been there for Xmas Day on the past 2 years years.We've yet to experience a bad meal here & definitely recommend it as the best Indian in Chelmsford.I'm sure if it was redecorated like Indian Nights it would be packed all the time but for me the food is so good I'm not concerned with the decoration.

Had a meal with one of my friends last night and the food was great. The plates were hot and the meals well presented. It may not be the flashiest restaurant in Chelmsford but the food is great value and service excellent. Give it a try as its one of the last old fashioned Indians around and that's why I like it

this place is more for a lads curry night as its loud and the food quality is lower but its cheap with 50% off food pretty much all the time. Couldnt argue with the quick service, flavour and service but its a very average curry house.

So I've seen a few reviews on this place and been meaning to give a go for a few months now, but always end up in the Rose of Indian near the station. However I now have a real dilemma on my hands going forward as this place is right up there.Staff were good, polite and very attentive. The food was really nice and prices were pretty reasonable. £50 for two people on a Saturday night with drinks and a massive stack of poppadoms :)A few others have mentioned the decor inside, but I didn't think it was that bad. Don't get me wrong I won't be using the colour scheme in my lounge any time soon, but completely acceptable for an Indian restaurant.Definitely will be back

Visited this restaurant a few times in the past. I was with 7 work friends. The decor is a bit dated but the waiters were great. Nothing too much trouble. It was packed in there and although we had to wait a long time between popadoms and our main course it was worth it. The food is lovely and I thoroughly recommend it.

Don't be put off by the outside appearance or the decor inside, this place offers a wide range of delicious authentic Curry's. Highly recommend.

I visited Balti King after 10 years in Mar2016 and nothing has changed. But then why change when you are already serving up delicious dishes. Always loved their food and service also is top quality. Not a fancy looking place but the food is great. Their half price on Thursdays and Sunday's are not to be missed if you are out there for a bargain.

We visited the Balti King after an evening of drinking. It was quite late but we were welcomed in. The service was very good as was the food. The food is priced reasonably and is served quickly. Although the surroundings are pretty basic the pleasant staff and good food excuse this.

Balti King does half price meals on Thursdays and Sundays. These are good value for money, though the food is no better than most "Indian" restaurants. There are all the usual things on the menu, ie far too many dishes on offer. I asked for a vodka and tomato juice and was told they don't keep tomato juice. Weird, The puds are the usual Brake Brothers rubbish, which is a great pity since the Indians do great sweets. We went there at six pm-ish. It got very busy and they politely asked us to pay up and go. They're not big on charm.

after reading a few horrid reviews was unsure whether to go or not but thought how bad can it be! glad we did as the service was good, nice and quick, good meal - we all had something different than the normal but was all really pleased. will go back there for sure

We came here after fancying a change from our usual choice of Indian restaurant in Chelmsford. We chose here mainly after seeing they take a taste card! Even with a late booking in the week, and around Christmas they were able to fit 9 of us in with no problem. Very nice atmosphere, friendly staff. Lots of choice on the menu, and the food was delicious, huge portions! Even better than our 'usual'. We definitely think will be our usual from now on! Recommended.

Came back the other day after a long time not going there and i must say its back to normal . Very nice food and well presented and very tasty. The people that works there are always very nice and polite. When we went it was very packed so when a place is packed its always a good sign. I will be going back again.

I come here once a fortnight after my game of squash, on a friday night, and not once have I had anything but an overwhelmingly positive experience. All the guys there are such lovely hosts, and contribute towards a lovely dining experience. Another factor that makes it my favourite indian in chelmsford is the food and the price of it. The food is lovely, and the £9.50 meal deal on a friday night seems to make it taste even better! Despite the size of both myself and my stomach, I can barely fit in the main dish, side dish, rice and naan that comes in the deal, and all the food is so rich and lovely it's rather upsetting to become full up!To sum up, lovely place, lovely food, lovely people, would highly recommend

I've been here a few times in the last few months and have been impressed each time! Most recently, a group of us visited for a joint birthday meal and the food was delicious. Large portions so you won't go hungry and the staff are really friendly. I recommend the Chicken Madras!

Balti King is not in the most lovely of environments, the bottom of Moulsham Street is dark and has little parking. Once inside, it's a small restaurant with plenty of good surprises waiting for you.I enjoyed the Meat Thali - a small platter of dishes giving a selection of curries and meats along with rice and naan. It was excellent.Service was good. The food was good. I will be going again!

We go here around 2-3 times a month. The food is great and the service always very good. The waiters are polite and friendly. We never left disappointed. They also have draft beer! We have tried quite a few Indian restaurants in Chelmsford and this always stands out.

after a morning working on Sunday, my wife and I popped into The Balti King in Moulsham Street, Chelmsford for a relaxing afternoon meal. We tried some dishes that we have not had before and were very pleasantly surprised by the taste and quality of the food and service. Great food and service and a very happy couple feeling fully satisfied.

Oh dear oh so disappointed . First of all our friends have been coming here for years and years they told us to come and give it a try and so we did we was not disappointed. Had a great meal every time, when I heard that they had stopped going didn't think anything of it so we went the other day . Oh dear the chicken was tough and rubbery tasted funny not like it has been in the past. I will not say much more only that my daughter was off work for 3 days. What has gone wrong is it cutbacks' or is it a new chef Please sort it out . This is my first negative review I have ever done on this restaurant.

Always go here if we are in the area or coming back from The South. Well I live in the south, so just a little souther. Food is always very good. Always the same, very consistent unlike many other Indian or Chinese establishments. Management and staff are great, can find no faults at all

Went here after reading the reviews. Conclusion. Either the reviewers have never been to a decent Indian restaurant or they are happy to accept sub standard food in a sub standard restaurant. These are the factsAbsolutely filthy chairs. Overall decor is filthy and not fit for a restaurant. Tables have a space of 18" between them which makes it feel like one long table. Noise was incredible with people on each table having to shout to each other due to proximity. Service was very poor Food was warm and bland. IF you visit, walk in and look at the overall decor and chairs and that will confirm this review is an honest appraisal of this so called restaurant. Turn round, leave and find another one.
