Great atmosphere along with great food! The staff & owner are so cordial and welcoming! Owner, Ben was genuinely concerned that we were having a good time! Along with our waiter, Jack, who was delightful and fun & had great suggestions too! When we’re back in Scotland this will be our first stop! Highly recommend Balerno Inn!❤️

What a charming, friendly and well run bar/restaurant/inn! Three of us gathered here for dinner and were treated like royalty. The food was beautifully presented and delicious. Our servers were kind and attentive and even the owner stopped at our table to make sure things were good. We were so impressed we came back the next evening for another dinner only to find the food and service just as good as the night before!!

This was our first visit. We received a warm welcome & enjoyed our meal. There was olenty of choice for the adults and children. Reasonable prices & very happy with the service.

The staff at the Balerno Inn are always so accommodating! I know we were a pain when we visited at the weekend changing our table from outdoors to indoors to outdoors but they didn’t bat an eye! The food as usual was delicious - always recommend this as a place to visit when people ask!

Great lunch for my wife's birthday with the family that included ages from 2 years old to 70 years young. Staff were brilliant & the food was great with a good selection for all. Definitely be going back.

Staff were very friendly and patient. We just wanted a light meal before attending a family wedding and they were quite happy to have us eat a round of (excellent!) starters and sip coffees until it was time to go. We saw wonderful mains going to other tables and resolved that one day soon we'll go back for a proper meal.

Disappointing, having read the positive reviews. Nice place, friendly, busy. But the food for us just looked and tasted like very average pub grub though prices lean more towards gastro. Would enjoy a drink there if we were local but wouldn't add it to our dining out venues.

Two weary cyclist were greeted warmly on Gala day. Friendly staff, phenomenal food and the much appreciated bike locks. We forgot ours! Recommend this gem highly if you are up this way.

I absolutely love coming here. The beer garden is perfectly situated in the sunshine and the kids play bit is invaluable. We got a range of nibbles and snacks which were delicious- in fact we had to order another set of pigs in blankets because they were so good. We stayed at the Balerno Inn to attend a wedding at a nearby venue. The rooms were very clean and comfortable with lots of extras. We dined in the restaurant one evening and the food and service was excellent . Staff were friendly and helpful and the outdoor area is particularly pleasant. A novel way to have breakfast - collect your food from an area to eat in your room.

Stayed in the Balerno Inn this weekend. We arrived Friday night and received a warm welcome from Alan and Amanda. Alan sorted us a table for dinner while Amanda showed me up to the pentland room which was very spacious and had a large comfortable bed and was immaculately clean. We then went for dinner. The quality of the food was excellent and the staff were very attentive. So much so we booked again for the Sunday roast dinner and it was superb! Probably the best we have ever tasted. Thanks to the chef. We had a great weekend at the Balerno Inn and would highly recommend for a stay and to dine. We walked from Bonaly to Balerno for Sunday lunch here and it was truly delicious- an incredible beef roast and a fabulous sticky toffee pudding! Great gluten-free options and coeliac awareness. We'll be back!

Lovely family Sunday lunch. Staff are always friendly, knowledgable and helpful. The menu is varied and offers a reasonable selection of dishes to suit all tastes. The Sunday Roast was tasty and filling. The Service is efficient without feeling rushed and they staff are happy to try to accomodate special requests where possible. The atmosphere is warm and cosy, busy but not overly full and the access to the outdoor play area is a welcome addition for the younger guests. (weather pertmitting)

We all had a great time at the Balerno Inn, great atmosphere which my wife and I both enjoyed and it was very nice to see our young teenagers smiling and chatting to the staff- so often teens are ignored when out for family food but the staff here all made efforts to engage with us all and we appreciated that hugely. Exceptional value lunch menu at £16.95 for two great courses. I couldn't fault the fish pie, big chunks of smokey fish, rich creamy sauce, whipped potato topping with mature cheddar crust. Service spot on, nice atmosphere, great playlist.

I went to the Balerno Inn with my fiancée’s best friend visiting from the US. The staff were lovely, welcoming and helpful. The food - my fiancées best friend’s food was very nice and well presented. I ordered the steak, it was awful, badly cooked and so gristly half of it was inedible. Lastly the cost, their food is extortionately expensive, £28 for a steak with peppercorn sauce, the sauce was extra, and their burger was £19! We had eaten the night before in a very popular restaurant in Victoria Street, the food was infinitely better and cost less.

I wish every Sunday roast was like this! Like others we'd been recommended by lots of friends and colleagues to go and try the Balerno Inn. We had few attempts to book a Sunday lunch but this is place is popular so it was a challenge to get a table, luckily with a bit of telephone begging they managed to book us a table for late lunch. It's a beautiful place, well appointed, well staffed with a buzzing Pub / Inn atmosphere ( cracking playlist too!) Food service was swift and knowledgeable and totally personable. We all had the 9@hrs pot roast beef and it's was breath takingly great. I'm not sure I've ever eaten beef so soft and flavoursome. I expect it's 50% credit to chef and 50% to the farmer. Potatoes were crisp, veg was beautifully seasoned, Yorkie was crisp and light and the gravy was nothing short of sensational. I have never felt compelled to leave a review before but honestly these guys need to know what a great job they are doing and they need to keep up the very high standards. Simply great!

An excellent evening, great food, great service and good value for money. We visited as a family of 5, and the dog, for belated birthday celebrations. A good menu choice and considering the cost of living challenges we are experiencing, the cost was what I would expect from a local pub. The pork bao buns as a starter were excellent, the salmon bruschetta was lovely and fresh with hot smoked salmon instead of your usual smoked salmon, and the scallops from the valentines menu were very good indeed. I had the small fish portion, which was just right, we also had the heritage sausages, which were huge, the venison and the macaroni cheese. All main courses were excellent, the fish was very tasty and virtually nothing left on the plates. For puddings we shared the sticky toffee pudding, a very good size portion, hence sharing, the snowball cheesecake and the chocolate ice cream. We didn't resent paying the service charge, which was good value in our opinion. All washed down with a bottle of Chenin Blanc, a flavoured gin and zero Estrella. A very relaxing and pleasant evening, even the dog enjoyed herself by falling fast asleep under the table. A lovely couple of hours and we would definitely visit again.
