One of the best places in Edinburgh! The owner is so attentive and friendly. The food is amazing, we had a jerk wrap and the aubergine dish. Everything was delicious.

Great place, that I have been coming to off and on for over 15 years. Omar and the team are lovely and the food is always amazing. Big fan of their wraps and now their hot chocolate!

Food tasted absolutely incredible (I got the mossagaa with rice and loved it), service could not have been friendlier and welcoming.

We followed the reviews for our first night in Edinburgh and were not disappointed! Brilliant food matched only by the hospitality. I only wish we'd arrived hungrier so we could have tried more!

Entered the store just wanting to go to the toilet the man wasn't there so I waited for about a minute still didn't appear so I went myself to the bathroom then when I came out the man is standing right outside of the door and has the audacity to tell me in a very mad and serious voice that I should ask him to go the bathroom and next time I go there I can't use the bathroom and that I should be ashamed of myself I said sorry and walked off. Very stupid thing to say considering that I waited more then a minute for him so I could ask and he wasn't even at the till nor the kitchen.

Staff was really kind and it was very fun to try dishes from a cuisine that is often ignored. Many options for all diets, vegan, vegetarian, etc. Our server always was attentive and gave us more flat bread when we ran low. The price was certainly right compared to many sit-down restaurants in the UK. Worth a visit especially if you have never had Sudanese/East African food before.

Absolutely love Khartoum Cafe. The food is delicious and always served with great energy. Lots of delicious vegetarian and vegan options and great value. I've been many times and would recommend everything I've ever eaten there!

Went out for a quick bite to eat after arriving in Edinburgh quite late. Stumbled across Khartoum and decided to give it a go. I am so glad I did. Had the aswad and baba ganoush for starters - which were both delicious. However, the real winner was the chicken marjakhis. Honestly it was one of the tastiest things I’ve had in my life. If you eat meat and are not allergic to peanuts, you HAVE to get this when you go. The staff were super friendly. I spoke to the owner who said that the restaurant was founded by his late brother. He is certainly doing him justice by the quality of the food available and the ambiance of the place itself. Really highly recommend if you’re in Edinburgh.

Really nice, casual cafe with tasty and reasonably priced options. Peanut curry was great, and surprisingly light. There were also a number of people who came by to get takeaway wraps. Lots of vegetarian options.

We came late and basically had a private dinner. Food was really tasty. Great conversation with the owner. Price was more than reasonable and vibrant atmosphere. Highly recommend!

i had the most amazing dinner here! the staff were incredibly friendly and made us feel so welcome and cared for, the food was to die for and the ambience of the place was so chill, perfect for a dinner date!!! at one point i said “i love this song” and the waiter turned it up a little bit for me! i fell in love with their wraps, and their prices are so good especially regarding the portions and quality of the food!! will be coming here very soon!

Wonderful gem in Edinburgh. Small but cozy restaurant with comforting and extremely tasty food and affordable prizes. The staff is extremely kind and welcoming. The kitchen is open until 4pm, so perfect for those going for a late lunch. Will be coming back frequently.

Mega vriendelijk personeel. Nog nooit Oost-Afrikaans gegeten maar ik durf te zeggen, zeer de moeite waard. Puur en smaakvol eten. Goede sfeer en vooral ook hartelijk en met een lach. Als je wat anders wil ga hiervoor!!!

The food is inexpensive and very tasty.

Simple menu, not a huge amount to decide between. Delicious food, very flavoursome. Staff are attentive and very welcoming. I felt very relaxed here, I sat for an hour or so after my meal, read a book and enjoyed some African coffee. The establishment has a great vibe and evidently I felt very welcome!

Was in Edinburgh and I had time to kill, and after being on the go all day, was in need of something to eat. Looking at what was close, Khartoum Cafe took my fancy. Not a greasy kebab shop, but a rather nice little sit down cafe (that also does food to go) and for 4pm on a Saturday afternoon, it was really busy. Great choice of Vegan food, but their wraps are a must! Ordered the Falafal and Hummus wrap to go, and was freshly prepared in no time. Staff are VERY inviting, and if in the area again, I would come here for a sit down meal.

Feels like home. We have paid 30£ for two people. Unbelievable man can have a simple but fulfilling dinner in Edinburgh for that price.

We eat here quite often. The atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly. Love the jerk chicken wrap with hibiscus tea. They do a great spicy coffee served in a gourd. It is a really unique experience and you are immediately made to feel at home. Definitely worth a trip to Tolcross.

Dropped in here whilst meandering to a show. I wasn’t acting on recommendation nor my usual Google review rabbit hole, but absolutely over the moon that we found this place. Simple, authentic food, fuul (sorry) of fava, I mean flavour. Vegetarian options were great, and gluten free requirements comfortably met, in part by an amazing teff flour flat bread. Final word, the two chaps who served were great. They had infectious smiles and went above and beyond. Couldn’t have asked for a better dining experience.

I wish Iived close by just to come in regularly for the friendly conversation and service.

We travel all the time from Stirling to eat to this amazing & unique restaurant! The owner has an amazing personality that involves you and makes you laugh all the time! The food in unbelievable yummy!!! One of the best restaurants in Edinburgh! Obviously we tried all the menu 😂 My favorite: Moussaga or lamb & chicken wrap

This restaurant was recommended to me by a friend who lives in Edinburgh—and wow, what a phenomenal meal! We got coffee, wraps with fries and chili sauce, baklava and basbousa. The wraps and fries were a perfect size, beautifully spiced, and a good balance of chicken and vegetable. The coffee had cardamon in it which paired with all the heat from the spices in the wrap in the most pleasant way. Finally, the basbousa and baklava were beautifully plated, and everything we had hoped for. The baklava was a notably generous portion—I’d say sharable, but then 1 bite in it was clearly too easy to eat every single bite myself. It was a cold, grey day but this meal was a tonic, warming to the very core. Thank you!

You have to visit!! My family and I left Edinburgh completely addicted to this place and the tea and coffee are a must try! What a lovely hospitable family and an absolute cultural gem in Edinburgh. A nice cosy place to visit with family. Went with my little sister who was spoilt and left feeling so loved. She said it was her favourite restaurant in Edinburgh!

Absolutely lovely food and wonderful service!!

Excellent service, very polite and really friendly. I was hoping the food would match, but sadly I do have some complaints. The portion sizes are too small for my liking, the rice was a bit cold and not perfectly cooked, and the falafel wasn’t fresh. I’d give the food 3/5, and 5/5 for the service.

The food I had here was fantastic! I highly recommend trying one of the entree dishes that has tahini in it; the lamb plate I got with the sesame oil option was addictively good, basically a curry with a delicious sesame base flavor. Also the two owners running the restaurant were lovely and visited with me after my meal. Highly recommend Khartoum Cafe for its wholesome vibes and its amazing food.

What a wonderful restaurant! Sure, it's restaurant prices rather than cafe prices but it's well worth it. The fuul is super tasty and the salata aswad is perfect. Omar and the staff are great. Very small, great feel - you'll love it.
