We stopped here for lunch after doing a bike tour. The food was excellent and the presentation with edible flowers was beautiful!

I had a delicious Peruvian dish today Cauliflower Aji. It was creamy and mildly spicy full of flavour. It was served with a boiled egg cut in two and two black olives. Also a delicious side salad with refreshing dressing which lifted the whole dish. A wonderful atmosphere with friendly service.

A cosy welcoming cafe, with obliging staff. It’s great that it’s a training environment with such an open policy, all welcome. The menu is fairly short but is full of tasty freshly prepared soup, scones, cakes, baked potatoes, panini with good fillings, and always a hot dish of the day, with a veggie alternative. Good coffee too. In addition, buying anything here is supporting a very worthy community initiative. A win-win visit!

Firstly, I hope sincerely that I never meet Cleo1205, with her mean-spirited review. What a misery. My wife and I visited Bridgend cafe today at the end of a long walk, and it was perfect. The surroundings are comfortable and relaxing, we had a great coffee and delicious flapjack and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful and attentive. We will be back.

Fantastic as ever, such a great community resource, so much more than a cafe, everyone so welcoming, kind and friendly, with some food sourced from the Bridgend allotments and food surplus distributed from Edinburgh's Food Share. Staff and volunteers are lovely. Muddy dogs and boots welcome!

Friendly farmhouse cafe serving freshly made good wholesome food. We visited on a Sunday, the staff were very accommodating and welcoming, we would definitely visit again. They also sell jams and chutneys that are made on the premises, we couldn’t resist purchasing a few jars.

Marvellous singing in the marquee, with new friends and old. Really enjoyed the newly penned words , so apt ,and proof that the folk music of the area is alive and kicking. All to support the Farmhouse projects. Thanks to all involved.

We ordered soup and a toastie. This was written down by a volunteer. A couple whose order had been placed after ours was served before us. I pointed this out to the male server. His response was that their order had been ‘easier to prep’. A second person whose order had been placed after ours was served next. We were then approached by a girl who introduced herself as ‘front of house’. She asked us what we had ordered. I said that we had been waiting a while and if our order wasn’t being prepared could we have our money back. Her response was that we had to remember they were all volunteers some of them quite young. The male server then came with our order. To give him credit he did say that feedback was welcome. The soup was nice and a generous bowl but could have been a bit thicker. The ‘toastie’ was misnamed. White supermarket bread had been toasted and made into a sandwich. We were charged £8 each. We left not knowing who had been responsible for the mix up with our order and what if anything was being done about it. We were not given an apology. This was our first visit and sadly also our last.

This review is for the cafe: great little find. Stopped in after visiting Craigmillar Castle for some lunch. Food was simple, but executed to perfection. Had an egg/bacon/cheese on a biscuit and a latte, both perfect. Lovely outside tables to enjoy the day as well.

I love Bridgend farmhouse. There is so much going on. I'm involved as one of the volunteers building the bothy and I've helped with the food projects too. They are always looking for volunteers and pre COVID-19 there was always something going on or someway to get involved. I don't think the cafe is open yet but soon hopefully. There's bike maintenance, woodworking and crafting workshops. There's also a volunteer day on a Sunday. Go along and see for yourself how wonderful the place is. Not far on the bus from town.

Was invited there by the Edinburgh Chinwaggers Club and, although it was a little on the cool side, the company made up for it and the food that made up the midday meal was second to none! I was driven around Edinburgh by my host and I would like to thank Jean and Elaine for a memorable day out and look forward to seeing them all again soon. They meet there on a Tuesday each week for dinner but I believe they will be changing their venue to indoors in a few weeks.

Pay a visit to Bridgend Farmhouse on Old Dalkeith Road. The community cafe always seems busy and offers a good selection of freshly made dishes. If you’re just after a cup of tea and a snack, you won’t be disappointed ... the cakes are huge. There are plenty of activities and short courses on offer too. Check it out.

This is unique! Community owned and staff - apparently - entirely by community volunteers. Lovely views and great atmosphere - hard to believe you're in the city! Just down the road from the amazing historic Craigmillar Castle (currently featuring in Netflix Outlaw King!) But what's also incredible are the prices - incredibly good value. Lovely home baking and fresh hot dishes all made from scratch. So long as you don't expect chain restaurant slickness, you'll be delighted. I understand it's only open Thurs-Sat during the day- but hopefully that might change. Staff told me they're planning pop-ups with guest chefs! Book me in!
