Absolutely lovely little cafe/restaurant with a twist on some traditional dishes, we had the Gol Gappe Chaat which was absolutely fantastic and a chili chicken masala wrap. Will definitely be coming back.

Excellent food! Really tasty, full of flavour and unique as an Indian scottish fusion. We had a starter and a main each and a lassi each, what a joy. We're going back for brunch soon. Make sure you have cash for a tip as they don't take card tips.

I took my mum for an afternoon tea with a voucher I purchased for her birthday. Fair to say it was one of the best afternoons teas we have had. The woman who served us (who I think may be the owner) was lovely, friendly and very helpful. We got a cocktail included with our food and I wasn’t drinking so was able to choose from the Lassi menu instead which was delicious. I could not fault the afternoon we spent there and we will definitely be back to try the full menu!

Excellent brunch here on a quiet Monday. Took our small dog in since place wasn’t busy. Two surya lassis which were delicious. I then had scrambled masala eggs on toast and my wife had a chilli cheese toastie along with a couple of cups of coffee. Everything was great. Very attentive service. Hope to be back soon.

Having had dinner here a few months (which was excellent!) and seeing they did brunch it was an absolute necessity to come back and try it! The brunch is also fantastic and once again the service was fantastic! I really cannot recommend the place enough :))

We had a great evening here last Thursday. It was very quiet, we were only the second couple in (until later). We had cocktail/wine and watched the chef prepare all the dishes meticulously by hand. I’m coeliac, and they were very switched on with what I could/couldn’t have and any alternatives. I opted for the Surya Street chat for starter, and they substituted mini poppadoms for the paid biscuits. There was a LOT of it. LOVED it. It was so flavoursome, and I’d say that was my favourite between that and my main (Masoor Dahl) which came piping hot with a big pile of rice. Lots of lovely flavours in there. My husband had Bhel Puri which was a big hit as well. Beautifully presented - never seen anything like it. One poured the liquid into the top of the puffs and scoffed in one go! Butter chicken for main. There was a selection of three white wines (and I think also three reds), plus beers and some interesting cocktails. I tried a Romanian white. We were on the ItIsOn deal, and found it very good value for money. Great space, with plenty of room between the tables. The service was attentive and very friendly. Take your time over your food, though,, as they look like they can get busy. They clearly love what they do and I think it’s a family run business. They suffer a bit from being at the end of Queen Street, but it’s only a couple of minutes from Charlotte Square (and next to Panda & Sons and Yotel) if in that area. We think we’ll go back as they seem to do lunches, too. And coffees.

Went with a group of girl friends. Food was excellent - such an interesting menu and all beautifully presented and served by most pleasant staff. We also had a delicious cocktail which was equally as well presented. It’s well worth walking a few streets away from the usual places in central Edinburgh to sample this menu.

Couscous lentil salad is amazing

Surya hosted a private dining experience for our company and their hospitality was some of the best I've experienced in Edinburgh. I believe this was a custom menu, and everyone was impressed and satisfied by the food. The staff went out of their way early in their shift to accommodate our reservation, this is one of the best Indian-inspired restaurants in the area.

The food at this place was absolutely scrumptious, especially the jalebi and cheesecake. And not to forget about the starter pani-puri - it was simply divine! If you're looking for a flavorful experience that will leave your taste buds dancing, Surya is the best place.

This was our first visit and it won’t be our last. The food was absolutely delicious. The chaat and puri are amongst the best we have ever had. Prices are really good given how close this is to the centre of Edinburgh. The service is faultless. We aim to be back to try breakfast too. A really good find.

I’ve walked past this place, many times and always look nice. Went for lunch yesterday and we were not disappointed. Nice place lovely staff and really nice menu. Fantastic dirty Chai Latte and a really good haggis Nanwich! Really recommended age for an easy lunch. Will defo be back.

We have just returned from our first (but not last) visit to Surya in Queen Street. A very enjoyable experience, we had brunch and both had the smoked salmon with turmeric scrambled eggs, absolutely delicious and made with a lot of skill and artistic flair. We both had a lassi, divine and an Assam tea, which tasted so good. The staff were lovely and we look forward to returning soon for a dinner. Highly recommended.

My wife and I had afternoon tea on Friday 13 October - that despite the date turned out to be a unique and stunning experience. Recommended by friends from Glasgow, we had the most warm and courteous welcome by the staff. With a Prosecco to start, we were then brought an 'artwork' of sweet, fruity, spicy and aromatic delights that gave us a new and unique dining experience. This is the first time I have tried the lunch menu. They call the dishes sandwiches. In reality they are the delicious half wraps with incredible fillings. I tried four of the dishes and each one was scrumptious. Surya is must for the best lunch in Edinburgh.

Take a wander off the main streets to this fantastic place that fuses Scottish and Indian flavors into some interesting dishes. I had the Chana and Green Lentil Couscous salad and it was easily the best salad I've had in Edinburgh! Totally unique flavors. This little corner is bubbling and Surya is one of the reasons why.

Great wee restaurant/bistro. Took our friends there as we had been there previously. They loved it.

We went for dinner here at 6pm with a voucher. Had never been before and wanted to try the interesting looking food on offer. When we arrived we were warmly greeted and shown to a table and given water right away. The menu was discussed as we had a voucher and we looked for drinks and 2 courses. The choice of lassi drinks was varied, even a cocktail lassi. I chose the cocktail one, crannachan made with raspberry and a dram of whisky included. My partner chose the Surya lassi. Both were made freshly for us and served. There were only two people doing the work and so be prepared for a wait as everything is made fresh, before your eyes at the counter. The dishes are fusion and so different from normal Indian food. The starters are very colourful and tasty and we shared both ours, given plates to do so as well. As people came in so the time to wait increased and staff worked hard to keep things moving along. The Dahl was well done and filling, the tacos a fun take on the dish. We went for a sweet which was a choice of two, with Indian sweet treats with ice cream and we shared it too. Overall really good value and very enjoyable food and drink. You don’t normally get to see your food being prepared and we could see it was meticulously done. Definitely worth a visit.

What a great new place for delicious Indian food - and more. Just had the lentil and roasted chickpea with the paneer and spinach and the best rice. Will be back for same again and for the veggie haggis roll definitely! Great value. It should be busier - highly recommend!

Went last evening with my husband. We were greeted with a cheery smile and given a great table at the back of the restaurant. Arcana wasn't sure if the wine was dry, so I was offered a taste. It was lovely and a bottle was ordered. Food was presented beautifully and tasted superb. Two courses were plenty. It was healthy and delicious. Will definitely be back.

We spend a lovely time at Surya’s Indian Scottish Fusion restaurant. The hospitality was great and very accommodating, the atmosphere is warm and pleasant. We really enjoyed the freshly made Mango lassi and our Indian main courses. We hope to have a chance to try this place also for breakfast, based on the menu it looks very inviting.

I had heard good things about the Brunch so when I was meeting a friend today I decided to head down, really impressed with the quality of the food we had the brunch which included a Lassi which was delicious and a great choice from the menu so many things I could have tried. The signature toastie certainly didn’t disappoint and I would have no hesitation to visit again to try other dishes from the menu. A real gem tucked away at the far end of Queen street - give it a go you won’t be disappointed!

The food is excellent it is just a taste that very body is searching for. The chef was so nice and team, the manager was so nice. I was just have to wait for like 5 min. And chef gave the food it was delicious and taste was outstanding. The environment was so nice everyone was enjoying the food.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at a restaurant that truly impressed me with its delightful ambience and delicious food. An amazing cafe which serves really great food. All the food is prepared with one of the most sought after ingredient called “Love”. ❤️ We enjoyed all our dishes and the services from the owner herself. She is brilliant and serves all the order to finest perfection. The masala chai, Bacon chilli cheese 🥓 toast, Naanwiches, Fruit balls, and everything else. You feel like home right after entering the restaurant. This cozy cafe and restaurant is a must visit if you are looking for some amazing fusion dishes. Excellent service! The food is simple but tasty. Excellent mix of Scottish and Indian tastes. We stayed in Edinburgh for 4 days and this lovely cafe-diner was our regular spot. My favourite was their smoothy named Lassi. My son is very demanding about hot chocolate and his rated Surya hot chocolate 10 out of 10 :).

Cold, wet & busy outside but warm, sunny & relaxed inside. Amazing food - Indian/Scottish fusion. Mackerel pate & mango street chaat for starters and chicken tikka burger and keema tacos for mains - a delight to the taste buds. The Regala wine and Cold Town draught lager were also delicious. Fabulous afternoon tea, lovely food, great service

If I lived nearby, Surya would be my go-to for fresh, tasty comfort food. Mid-afternoon, we started with the Surya Street Chaat to see how hungry we were, then moved on to a paneer salad and masala chicken wrap, plus a taste of the gol-gappe. Everything was made fresh in front of us and combined so many flavors.

This was such a great find, not far from where we were staying. Great to see a different take on Indian food and had a great vibe about it. Go and check it out for yourselves 👌

What a jewel. The street food snacks - chaat and poori - we had were absolutely exceptional. The young couple who own and run it take enormous care. Small number of covers and elegant decor.

The staff are great, the service was good! It’s a shame the food is so terrible! Branded as an Indian cafe but their masala is basically a bland coronation chicken. Nothing is marinated, it’s like they just throw their chicken/paneer into a bland coronation sauce. Cold bad fillings inside a hot wrap. The soup was lukewarm. Fresh chillies and fresh spices would go a long way! Granulated spices thrown into Mayo/yoghurt is all you will find here. If you like Indian food, avoid. Although they do have lovely Indian cider! Again though, staff are lovely! Quick service!

Such a hidden gem of Edinburgh!! We attended their Festive Wine Tasting (via eventbrite) at the end of December and it was such a wonderful evening. Such a cosy atmosphere, we sat in the window seats under the fairy lights. As it was the evening before New Year's Eve the tasting was quiet so we just had it directly at the table. The wine selection was fantastic and varied, the accompanying food was INCREDIBLE (the Surya Street Chaat was amazing, first time ever having this dish!). Despoina looked after us and she was so friendly and created such a relaxed atmosphere for us and she also has some great knowledge of the wines. The evening was finished by their handmade chocolates (the one with the cardamom was so good). Overall a beautiful evening, this was a gift so we weren't sure what to expect and will 100% be coming back and recommending to everyone :)
