Tasty Buns Bakery in Edinburgh, City of

Ordered a cake for a special occasion. Due to a human error our cake was never made and had to return twice to the bakery as they “hoped” to get the cake done in time for us. Didn’t exactly fill us with confidence. They stated it was a “silver lining” that our cake wasn’t needed for the next day even though a friend travelled from another city to collect it. The cake was nice however the amount of inedible flowers, decoration balls and the cake leaning all made it look a lot cheaper than what it actually was. It was evident they rushed to get the cake made as they had forgotten about it completely. They did offer a £25 voucher for the inconvenience but I wouldn’t use them again between the quality of the cake, the poor managements and the lack of service. I wish we had just cancelled the cake when he heard they hadn’t baked it and bought elsewhere.

I absoultely love this place. Their treats are so delicious my partner and I ordered pavlova's from them for our wedding and the were a huge hit!

The buns were indeed tasty, when back for a second treat in under 15mins.

We nipped in here for a quick bite. Good selection of sweet treats. We couldn’t choose 2 so we picked 4. We opted for the crunchie brownie, white chocolate and twix slice, a vanilla oattie and a ginger and biscoff loaf slice. All of them were absolutely delicious. My favourite was probably the ginger and biscoff load which was so moist and flavours complemented themselves dry well. Close 2nd was the oattie which was quite hard on the outside but very soft on the inside. The other 2 were not far behind but also very tasty. I also got a hot chocolate which was very nice and not too sweet. Staff were welcoming and we thought it was fairly priced. I love how everything is home made and they often change their menu. For that reason, I will be back to try something else next time. *Update* I have since been back again and can still confirm this place is still the dugs baws! Great variety of sweet treats and everyone I’ve had is awesome!! Staff are also super friendly.

This is a tiny dynamite of a bakery. I stood in front of the display case for an awkwardly long time trying to decide what to get because it ALL looked good. Decided on a brownie and donut and both tasted better than they looked, and they looked pretty darn good.

We wanted something sweet and were immedately drawn by cuteness of the shop. The staff were really nice and the pastries even nicer! 10/10 would recommend! We had a banoffee cake and a chocolate rocky road.

I’ve been going to Tasty Buns since it opened and when we decided to get married in Edinburgh there was no question of where we’d get our ‘cake’. We just had a small thing so opted for shortbread rather than cake. Lou made us custom flavours and everyone commented how delicious they were. I’ve had so many of her cakes in the wee shop and just love her bakes - everything is original and incredible.

I’ve popped in every week almost for the last few years and can confirm TB’s is amazing! It’s such a cool cafe and there’s always new bakes (sweet and savoury) to try every day. Everything is so original with exciting flavours or classic and comforting options too. Everyone who works there is so kind, friendly and caring and make you feel so welcome. Such a lovely bunch! They've also made bespoke cakes for me a few times for birthdays etc, which have been so beautiful and delicious! I highly recommend!!

NO SOUP FOR YOU... Just a haiku to say... Chop your chosen veg; let's say leeks and potatoes, add stock and season. Your soup always rocks!

My favourite chill place for coffee and cake, or one of their absolutely massive focaccia sandwiches and toasties. There's always so much to choose from, and it's all homemade.

I love a weekend treat from Tasty Buns! There is always such a wide selection of treats to choose with delicious flavour combos! I had a cherry, black sesame and caramelised white chocolate bun at the weekend, and wow, it was 11/10!😋 Friendly staff and great location! Highly recommend!

They offer delicious home-baked pastries, stunning cakes, tray bakes, truffles, sweet and savory scones, epic brownies, soups of the day, and sandwiches, along with great locally roasted coffee. The selection varies daily based on demand and season. Since I couldn't try everything in one go, I chose a coconut scone and a biscoff cake, accompanied by a hot chai latte. It satisfied my breakfast cravings, but additional savory options would have been awesome too.

Stopped on our walk from hotel to Royal Mile and was blown away by delicious salted caramel biscuit (part of a larger biscuit fest selection) and cinnamon bun. Cappuccino was also top notch. The seating area was nicely decorated with paintings from a local artist and the staff was friendly and helpful.

Not called Tasty Buns for nothing- the empire biscuit, cookie pie and oreo brownie are all amazing! Lovely little cafe with very friendly staff. I'm lucky that my business is nearby and I can come regularly with friends :)

The scone was delicious, the cake scrumptious, and the tea and coffee were hot and full of taste. The cafe is up the road from The Grass Market and round the corner from Usher Hall so in a great location

My son and I happened onto this adorable shop. The cakes and cookies are amazing. The service was kind and helpful. The shop itself is so relaxing which is what we needed. I would highly recommend this yummy tea shop.

Nice cakes and friendly serving. It is definitely worth it to walk the extra minutes from Grassmarket to avoid the tourist traps. It is not the most atmospheric of places but the cake more than makes up for it. Thanks to Simon for bringing us here.

Tasty buns provided two occasion cakes for our small wedding in May - one gluten free. Both tasted and looked INCREDIBLE. We also couldn't resist the Vietnamese coffee bun and macaroni bread - both tasted equally amazing (also, watch out for local seagulls who also think so....). The staff were super helpful and accommodating, we will definitely revisit when we return to Edinburgh. Thank you!!

Got a latte with oat milk, it was kind of small but did the job, oat milk cost extra which always hurts my heart not gonna lie, not my fault i can’t digest dairy :(((

Stellar! Always a wide range of treats on offer, and I have yet to be disappointed by any. I’m still dreaming in particular about the brown butter raspberry cake I had a while ago (even though I’ve gotten to enjoy plenty more of their bakes since)!

Nice little bakery with really friendly staff. I love cakes so on my first visit I was pleasantly surprised to find they had a great selection of cakes which included daim cheesecake, rhubarb & custard panna cotta, brownies, coffee & walnut cake etc. You order at the till and they come to your table to serve the drinks/food. They also offer soups although we just wanted coffee & cakes at the time. The coffee was pleasant and the coffee & walnut cake was so light and tasty. The pistachio & amaretti was also delicious.

We’ve been to Edinburgh twice, and been to Tasty Buns 3 times. The fresh baked stuff is delicious, and you don’t know what the new things will be. The hot chocolate is also immense! The staff are friendly and relaxed, and really made us feel welcome. We’ll always visit when we’re here!

Had sadly not been recently due to Recent Events, but all the food here just as delicious as ever. First there's the tasty soup or seasonally delightful sandwich, but even the plain focaccia is so good I have a hard time calling it plain. The drinks are good, and the desserts are why we came down from Fife today - the rest of our visit is an excuse!! Staff are wonderful and incredibly helpful, and the pandemic house rules all clearly signposted and sensible. Can't wait to come back!

We were SO impressed by this little bakery we stumbled upon. Amazing food and great price. The staff were super friendly and the food was so different and tasty. We had this amazing Mac & cheese foccacia which I have been craving everyday since! Couldn’t recommend it highly enough, a must for anyone visiting Edinburgh.

I don’t live in Edinburgh anymore but every day I feel the absence of Tasty Buns. I used to live around the corner and would frequently treat myself to tasty delights and beverages! I would often stop by in the morning to grab something for myself and my friends! Sometimes at parties I get drunk and show people the Tasty Buns Instagram so that they too can be aware of this wonderful establishment. Still the most delicious pastries I’ve ever had and I’m quite the sweet treat connoisseur! If you find yourself in Edinburgh, you simply must go!!! Couldn’t recommend more.

Love this bakery. The treats are out of this world, and the staff are incredible and friendly. They even helped me put together a beautiful delivery of treats for my fiancé’s 30th birthday during the height of lockdown. I love Tasty Buns!

We arrived just as they were opening for a quick breakfast on our way to visit the castle. We had a chai blueberry walnut blondie, and a custard cream. Both were really good, and the custard cream biscuit was super light. Truthfully I think we had hoped the range might have had slightly more ‘breakfast’/pastry options, but the guy was saying they’re trying to announce the menu more on Facebook in advance so they can more closely control how much they’re making while visitors were lower due to COVID. Would definitely recommend though, and hopefully next time they will have the cronuts available!

They do a great selection of cakes here. I got a Milky Way rocky road slice and a kinder bueno brownie. Both were super tasty. Rocky road was the best I’ve ever had!

We stopped in here in the morning for some coffee and fresh scones with clotted cream and jam. Simple meal, done to near perfection. There is a small amount of seating, and it is quite a cozy spot to start your day. Simple meal, simple review. Well worth a visit.

I‘ve ordered a piece of Bounty-Rum-cake and ist was delicous. Scones were also good and the girls in the kitchen were very friendly.

Tasty Buns offer something slightly different to the usual breakfast.In particular breakfast poutine and cheese tacos, in addition to the normal items like bagels etc.I opted for the cheese tacos, which were amazing. They consist of two cheese tuiles that were filled with spicy beans, scrambled eggs and topped with tomato salsa. It was a lovely alternative to the normal heavy brekkie.My wife had the salmon and cream cheese on toast which again she said was lovely Breakfast and two flat whites was about £13 which is good value for money.

Such a cute wee cafe with a rustic interior! Got a lovely oat milk latte and a tunnocks brownie which was lovely. Not too expensive at £5.70 to sit in with both!

I visit tasty buns regularly, All their cakes are amazing, keep an eye on their instagram to see what special/unique things they have on any particular day. The staff are super friendly and all their bakes are easily the best of any bakery in Edinburgh.

I've only visited this cafe for the first time this week and I can't wait to go back. The service is fantastic and the dude behind the counter was so friendly and helpful. The range of food available is unlike any I have had the pleasure to try before. I had a hot chocolate but it wasn't rich at all just perfect and it came with a gin/raspberry flavoured marshmallow....WOW, so beautiful. I also had a toasted sarnie that had Chirizo, cheese, sweet chilli and pesto in it and the bread even itself was awesome. My mum had a cauliflower and stilton scone which I got to try, so unusual yet super tasty. It's really inspired me to try and make some more usual combinations in my scones at home. I then had a white chocolate filled truffle which was too die for and I got to try my sisters cake which was Boozy Coffee, again AMAZING! I've never had food like this before. I love the whole look of the cafe itself, very welcoming. May I just add one thing I do think a little music would be splendid just something very soft in the background to add to the atmosphere. You kind of feel like others can hear your conversations when no music is on, but other than that everything is perfect. I cannot wait to visit again, more because the food has blown me away.

Wowowow!! The tastiest buns I have ever had! Not only does the owner and baker work exceptionally hard to make sure there is an ever-changing array of delicious bakes on the counter, but the savory options for lunch (like homemade broccoli and stilton soup or a BANGIN' cheese and chorizo toastie on homemade bread) are equally as dope. Not to mention the coffee is on form and the staff are some of the friendliest folk on the block! My favourite coffee shop/bakery in Edinburgh by far. If you're in the area do yourself a favour and pop in - your tastebuds will be DELIGHTED you have.

Los bollos salados son deliciosos y siempre algo inusuales. Rompí mi patrón normal y tuve un dulce bollo recientemente - fecha especiada - y fue muy, muy bueno. El personal también es muy amable, e incluso cuando hay una cola, nunca me he sentido presionado para decidir entre la gran variedad de sabrosos bollos. Lo único que lo mantiene de 5 estrellas es que la zona de asientos puede ser un poco fría (pero siento el frío con mucha facilidad).

Mi amigo sugirió reunirse aquí después de haber visto las buenas críticas y no nos decepcionó!Sólo hay unas pocas mesas, pero era muy agradable y acogedor y el personal era muy amable.Tuve un sándwich de ensalada de atún que estaba fresco y bien lleno y venía con una pequeña ensalada que era preciosa. Mi amiga tenía un pastel de coliflor con queso y cebolla que también le encantaba.Luego tuvimos unos hermosos brownies con toffees en los que eran fabulosos. La única decepción fue que los bollos se habían vendido. . . Sin embargo, sólo otra razón para una visita de regreso: -)

Needed a sit down and a coffee. This place is perfect. Really nice chap behind the counter - very efficient. Had the Jamie Dodger slice - it was amazing. Coffee was perfect too. Not manically busy like the rest of town. Highly recommended!

As title suggests, last day at work-realise I need to buy a cake - called Tasty Buns who had a beautiful cake, redirected the UBER, collected it, paid for it, arrived at work, claimed it as my own baking (only joking) and 4 hours later, only crumbs are left... and my colleagues are a discerning crowd. I will be back!

Tasty Buns is a revelation. Louise, the owner and baker, is an absolute genius. From chocolate and stout cruffins (these incredible croissant-textured, muffin-shaped BEAUTS), to cheesecake piled high with things your wildest dreams would BLUSH at. Just go. Have a crackin coffee, and some of the best cake in Scotland (and that’s not just me saying that - she’s got 2 awards to prove it!), you won’t regret it.

We stopped here for much needed refreshment. We ate home-made beetroot and horseradish soup served with a hunk of delicious granary bread, followed by a lovely hot chocolate (not chemical tasting, or over-sweet, or cooled with cream - just as I like it) and scrumptious, fresh triple decker Victoria sponge. All charmingly served and in a pleasant environment. Making a bee-line for this place when next in Edinburgh.

We were looking for a simple but tasty place to have a quick breakfast and we definitely found one. Very good coffee, very good scones and extremely welcoming service.

Having walked past on several occasions whilst in the City and admired the cakes, we were keen to have a light lunch on our way back to our hotel and popped in for excellent toasted sandwiches plus a hot chocolate and a cappuccino. The main thrust of the business is the counter service, but there are a few tables, and the meal certainly hit the spot. Very good quality.

Stopped by for a coffee and tried the Boozy Pear Scone with Raspberry Jam. What a surprise! A very small, quaint shop. The food was fabulous!

I popped in recently for a cuppa and a flapjack, and as always was so impressed! The flapjack was incredible, and the service as per usual was friendly, welcoming and efficient. Always try to pop in when I'm in that neighbourhood - give it a go!

My great friend came to visit on the anniversary of her lovely mum’s death - her mum always said that any occasion could be improved by a good scone! Due to my children and me all being lactose intolerant it meant no scone would be available I contacted Tasty Buns who very kindly made me a lactofree batch so we could all enjoy them in memory of her mum - she was so touched and they tasted incredible! Thank you so much Tasty Buns!

What a great little place. An ever changing array of sweet goodness (but not stupidly so like some other 'top' bakeries) - cakes, buns, bakes and also tasty bread too. The coffee is certainly not to be sniffed at either.

I have visited Tasty Buns on a few occasions for a takeaway slice of cake and have never been disappointed. I have always been met with a smile and a tempting selection of bakes. There always seems to be something new to try, from more traditional flavour combinations to new twists on classics. It's one of those places where you can tell a lot of care has gone into the creation of what's on offer.

One of my favorite places in Edinburgh! I love this place so much. Every time I go in I'm excited to try yet another new creations by Louise. Everything so far has been amazing! We also ordered some stuff for the office and everyone loved it. These really are the best cakes, brownies and tray bakes in Edinburgh! The coffee is pretty good too which is important to accompany the exciting creations. My favorites so far- baileys white chocolate cheesecake, peanut butter cheesecake, daim bar chocolate cake. Plus everyone is so friendly and welcoming too, it makes you want to keep going back. I hate the fact that I can't visit this place every few days because I don't live in Edinburgh anymore. But whenever I go back this is one of my first stops and I love sending all my visiting friends there.

So pleased to have come across this awesome little bakery, on the very aptly named Bread Street! A proper wee bakery and cafe that makes their own cakes is a pretty rare find and let me tell you those cakes were delicious! I will definitely be back soon to try everything else!

From Savory to Sweet in a lovely quaint space amongst hustle and bustle of Bread st. I really like the decor with the red touches and very cool light fixtures. Yummy tea and a choice of two sandwiches. We will be back!

Always wanted to visit here. We did on Saturday but they were getting ready to close for the week as they are making premises bigger, allowing them to make and store more items.

Have only been to Tasty Buns once but it won't be my last visit! Lovely pot of tea, but much more to the point amaaazibg sweet treats! Hubby and I shared an Empire Biscuit (the review that says these are the best ever are not wrong!), a Nutella traybake slice which was amazing, and a piece of jammy dodger fudge which I've never had before but want to have again!

Like the title reads, best cake in town. Lovely little place with a really warm and comfortable feel to the layout and decor. High quality coffee too. It's the cakes you come for though. All made by the owner and with some really creative variations. The empire biscuits are the BEST I'VE EVER TASTED and that's not over stating it. Get down here and get stuck in.

I have visited Tasty Buns twice now and each time has been as enjoyable as the last. There is a great selection of cakes, traybakes, cheesecakes and more to choose from! For me it is great at they also make coffee with soy milk and it is a great coffee.

Really enjoy my visits to Tasty Buns. I usually stop by for a coffee only to end up buying myself something really REALLY tasty form the cake selection. There is always a good mix of outrageous new options and some old favourites (although even these often have a fun twist). Now a firm favourite in my Old Town stop offs!

Very good coffee and the sweets - oh man... We couldn't choose so got four different pieces and the lovely girl behind the counter was kind enough to chop them up into four pieces each so we could share. Our favorite was the after eight fudge, but the Mars and chocolate based rice crispies treats were a close second. Highly recommended!
