The Balerno Fry in Edinburgh, City of

We stayed in Balerno for a week and visited this place 3 times and had excellent fish suppers every time. Best fish & chips we've had in years. Big portions, great value, and the staff were friendly. Fish was well cooked and the batter crispy . Sign at the counter says 'cash only' but you can pay by card by ordering using the touch screen on the adjacent wall. We look forward to visiting again the next time we're in the area.

Gluten Free pizza my daughter loved, we use this everytime in Balerno visiting family, clean shop, and staff friendly bend over backwards for you and chips great too

Ordered various chip suppers and it was nothing special. Mind you, same for most of the chip shops in the area. Frustratingly if you order in person, it's cash only. Order online to collect and that'll be another 50p.

Visited tonight but somewhat disappointed. Seems to have gone downhill. Ordered fish supper but mostly soggy batter not a lot of fish! Chips must have been end of the batch as they were mostly all small and crunchy. Shame as used to be great......

Horrible little place, fish was dry thin and tiny. chips dirty and greasy. Called to complain and was told don’t order again.

Myself and hubby just had a Chicken Donner kebab from here and our sons had pizza, a pepperoni and a Margarita..The kebabs were amazing, plenty of chicken, and lovely fresh salad again more than enough..We both thoroughly enjoyed it, and the pizzas went down well too. Definitely be back 👍

Disgusting, the fish smelled awful and was really soggy because the batter was still raw!! Wont order again as this isn’t the first time.

The hottest pizza is not that spicy like they recommended. But try to judge yourself.😃😃😃

Came here recently for the first time and I found the place clean and service-friendly, food was freshly made and crazy cheap but didn't lack in quality of ingredients. I got the (special haddock supper) for £10 and was amazed to see that the chips were plentiful and fluffy and that they gave me 3! Fried fish fillets Even tho the fillets were a bit thin I can't complain, couldn't even finish it all after a long day of cycling. Definitely would come again!

Came in Sunday eve when I was very hungry and was very happy with my order, the portion was generous and the lady behind the counter was lovely. Thanks!

No real customer service, the owner won't cook anything fresh if he has some in the hotplate. I asked for a fresh fish as he was having to cook a chicken for my friend and the fish in the hotplate was dry, and he refused.

Order was late and food was cold, never again, I am very disappointed, order for 40 pounds for few people and most of was not eaten even though everyone was hungry :(

Excellent local chipper. Busy enough to keep the food fresh and crisp, pleasant serving team. Good value portions, nothing is "cheap" anymore or anywhere, but this place strikes a good balance between value and quality.

Just ordered from here for the first time and we may as well have just chucked £25 in the bin because that's where all the food went. The worst ever. Nice glossy menu too. No mention of the kids meal pizza being deep fried, he's 6, he said it was horrible. Chips were greasy and tasteless. Husband said worst kebab he's ever had and my burger, the salad tasted greasy like the chips and it the same stuff was dumped all over the burger, in a burnt toasted bun. So disappointed, not had a take away in ages and decided to treat ourselves, starving still.

First time ever chips were cold and looked liked they had been reheated Fish and smoked sausage were warm but could have been hotter Usually spot on especially as it’s not that cheap

Ordered a fish supper and kepab and chips. Getting two bits of fish was great but the batter was all dried out either over cooked or under the heat lights for to long. The chips are more like French fries they are very thin. The plus point is they use the card board boxes rather than they polystyrene containers which make the food greasy The kepab meat was quite rubbery but plentiful. If I had to rate it I would say 6 out of 10

Yeah its good. Next time i am in Balerno ill give the Haggis a go

Nice food ,fresh and hot however the driver with the red Manchester United cap is the best ever so friendly and just makes you laugh. Always makes my day when he delivers. There should be more of him around

I can't recommend their gluten free range enough! It's truly excellent! Will definitely be coming back for more!

Ordered Vegetarian wrap, it came soggy and 90% was filled with red cabbage and had a vinegary taste, apparently it goes soggy according to the chef because of the vegetables

Wow!!! In the Lothians, this has got to be the go to place for gluten free. Amazing food, people and service. Have had the best meat feast pizza since diagnosis and all other gluten free extensive menu to be recommended x

Special Haddock Supper and a portion of battered mushrooms. Absolutely first class. Enjoyed it immensely. I'll be ordering from here again.

Hi placed order for a kebab went to collect this. Well once home it was warm and like rubber boots. Put some sauce on but yuk yuk yuk. Never been of loo since eating very little!! I have kept this for EMH to get the meat checked ( must be off meat) yuk. Avoid this place. Sent the shop an email. Never again.

Left waiting for my delivery for over 3hrs. Driver called to say could not find my house after 1hr of waiting tried to give directions from only 5mins away but to no avail! Called chip shop who assured us we would get a fresh delivery after not receiving the first one. We waiting a further hour and half till I phoned to find out where it was to be told that the delivery driver had quit so therefore was not getting a delivery! Asked why the had not at least phoned me to inform me instead we were led waiting for food tha was neve going to arrive! The response I got was disgusting and totally unprofessional I was hung up on told if I wanted another delivery that I shouldn't be rude yet I was only trying to ask why we were just left not informed we were made to feel as if we were In the wrong for the driver not finding our address after getting delivery from balerno fry. I will never again phone for any service from balerno fry we waited for many hours and could not have the decency to let me know my family would not be getting food and we could have arranged something else instead we were left too long to enable us to get another delivery!, TERRIBLE SERIVICE

Food wasn't cooked properly We got what was supposed to be a fresh fish and chips but it was literally freezing and the food ended up in the bucket

Absolutely terrible. Worst chippy I've ever had. Fried pizza supper, think they forgot to put the topping on it and the chips were as dry as black toast. The food arrived stuck to the top of the boxes losing what very little cheese was potentially on the pizza and the batter from the king rib. Disgusting. Do not recommend going here and won't be back.

first takeaway in Lockdown and we chose Balerno Fry for their amazing pizzas. Quality pizza, better than the big chains.

This place is great. They're always happy to see you, and the food that comes out is pretty good. On occasion the fish can be a bit weird, but pretty much everything on the menu is tasty as.

Had a party last night and we decided to order from Balerno Fry. My friend dared me to eat a whole Red Devil Pizza and I was BURNING INSIDE but it was so delicious, also the calzone was really tasty.

This chippy used to be good but has went severely downhill...off food being served,very rude staff & lots of complaints in the local community. Do not go!! Not recommended

When I Call a shop to order my food, I seriously expect a nice and polite conversation from the staff or any one on the phone.But most of the takeaways staff are not polite on the phone and I just didn't know the reason. Because of that when I call a takeaways shop I mostly talk some how serious,But yesterday when I called The Balerno's I just felt ashamed of my style.They were really polite.Besides that, the food was really ambrosial and it arrived faster than usual. I just want to thank them for there delicious food. Highly recommended.

last time i was in edinburgh i had an amazing king rib at javit, this time i tried to reach them but the shop was closed, so my colllegue recommended here, ordered 2 bbq king rib supper, it took about 50 minutes to came, but definitely worht to wait that long, excatly the same spice and flavour that i had last time for a better price!

Mostly I'm accustomed to order Pizza and Burger from takeaways. For first time I tried Calzone in this shop. Very Tasty and great delivery time. I put my order through shop's number but you can do it through application as some of my friends. I recommend this shop fast foods. I have not tried other categories .

Friendly staff good food but sometimes the chips ain't the best. And have found portion size a bit small but other than that it's nice u can sit in and eat or have a seat while u wait on ur order.. Always a good thing seats available.. Quick service on take away too and drivers all friendly

Waited 40mins for chicken nuggets and then when I began to get frustrated I asked how long they were going to be honestly they had forgot about the order completely. When the owner/manager isn't in the shop it falls below average. Very disappointed normally has a wonderful customer service but not this time.

Great fish, and always ask for freshly cooked. Crispy, dry batter, and just delicious. There is even a sitting area to wait,in, or indeed eat your food if you want. The staff are really nice and very chatty. Lovely people. Sometimes it is just great to get a takeaway! We will be back

Often have fish and chips from the Balerno Fry, they always taste fresh with crispy batter surrounding perfectly cooked fish, best fish and chips in the area. They also do pizza and kebabs which are good too. The staff are very friendly and hard working

Pedí un Calzone y llegó sin queso o la salsa dentro y estaba seco y incomible, mis alas de barbacoa se quemaron a un fresco y las patatas fritas eran frías. Llamé a discutir el problema y un hombre bastante grosero declaró que esto es lo que calzones son como y si no me gusta que me deben llamar su director, mañana, ya que no estaban disponibles y probamos para terminar la llamada. Les dije que había pedido el Calzone antes y que no era lo suficientemente bueno y me dijo que no podía hacer nada y colgó. Llamé hablando a una mujer esta vez que me dijo que se iba a conseguir el gerente de llamarme. El "administrador" si eso es que estaba hablando de llamado y declaró que sólo podía recibir un reembolso si se recoge la comida sin embargo cuando esto ocurrió mi pareja tenía mala gana comido su mitad. Me dijo que después de su mala educación habitaciones no estaba contento con que nos dieron una gratis la próxima vez, ya que nunca me pide de ellos y dijo que quería un reembolso completo de las circunstancias. Ella dijo que no podía hacer eso y me explicó que los derechos de los consumidores y tiene derecho a un reembolso completo. De repente el maleducado estaba de vuelta en el teléfono que gritaba en mí diciendo que no tienen tiempo para esto, me han dicho que soy un cliente y él deberá hacer tiempo, gritó agressively diciendo que si no me gustaba que deben llamar su jefe mañana y me colgó! Traté de teléfono volver por tercera vez a preguntar el nombre de caballeros para que yo pudiera hacer una denuncia formal y colgaron en mí nuevamente. Estoy absolutamente horrorizados por el camino me trataron y cómo poco profesional y grosero que eran. Yo no recomendaría pedir desde esta para llevar porque si tienes tu orden equivocado no pueden tratar de manera profesional e insultos sus clientes.
