We have been visiting Kendal for a number of years and wandering around we found this wonderful cafe/coffee house , and what a wonderful place it is. Great service plenty of choice and a coffee that was one of the best we have ever had.

I think this is my favourite place to go for cake in Kendal. The Guinness cake is amazing. I've had some exceptional blondies here including a cinnamon roll blondie that blew my mind. They do some delicious savory options too. Variety of seating and dog friendly.

Popped in for light lunch and cake. My husband had a Mediterranean pie and I had cheese and onion quiche, huge portion. Both very tasty and good value. We then shared a coconut and cherry slice.

Love going here for good coffee and relaxed atmosphere. Cakes look great. I don't have sweet tooth and my only request would be that there are savouries eg cheese scones on more regularly. Had the Asparagus Tart today which was gorgeous.

New this coffee shop was there but hadn't been in. What a mistake! Popped in over the weekend, what can you say, the homemade cake selection was amazing. The 2 we tried were really good and tasty. Will be going back to try the rest. The coffee wasn't bad either. Would certainly recommend it, it's a lovely atmosphere and the staff are great.

Me and my husband stumbled upon this lovely cafe whilst wondering round Kendal that seems to be mainly full of barbers and takeaways (sadly). It’s a hidden gem, lovely and simplistic, amazing cakes and great coffee. I think the table situation could be addressed as there are only large tables with 8 or 6 seats and the odd window seats. I’m fine sharing my coffee with other people but I know it would totally put some people off.

Although trip advisor shows closed, they are most definitely open. The ambiance and welcome are excellent. We had a slice of cake each, not only were these delicious, but we’re very large slices. A good range of teas and coffee. Obviously very popular as it was quite busy when we arrived. A great place to visit whilst in Kendal, for a relaxing cuppa whilst shopping, judt off the main pedestrian centre, towards the new butchers and M&S. I highly recommend Melissa and Marrianne’s The Bakery at No4.

I visited the Saturday before Christmas with my husband who is 78 and therefore vulnerable. The cafe was absolutely packed out with insufficient space between tables and no windows open. We should have left straight away but I wasn't quick enough to realise the extent of the danger signals. People were coming in after us grabbing tables whilst we waited for a table to be cleaned. Staff allowed this to happen instead of greeting customers and asking them to wait outside. I felt very uncomfortable and will not be returning until Covid has gone away. The owners need to urgently make changes to keep people safe. Really concerning.

Gorgeous cafe/bakery. Just visited yesterday since it’s moved and been refurbished, looks absolutely beautiful inside really airy and high ceilings too- we had a couple of flat whites and some cakes and they were divine. All guidelines followed very well too and track and trace, masks, sanitiser etc all in place. Will definitely be back!

Cathie and I visited the Bakery at Number 4 a couple of weeks ago for the first time and have returned twice since!! The cakes and the selection of cakes are incredible and according to Cathie the scones are to die for! She is a bit of a scone addict! We loved their coffee too and I was pleased to find they served oat milk as a dairy alternative. Also sampled some of their lemon and poppyseed shortbread which again was delicious. We shall definitely be returning and highly recommend a visit.

Popped in today and worth the visit. Large selection of cakes. We had two coffees and a large scone with jam and the price was £5.50 which considering you pay a fiver for two cups of coffee at Costa I thought was reasonable. The scone was gloriously large and very tasty :) A quirky cafe, the only drawback being is there's not many seats/tables. But if you can find a table give it a try.

Stumbled across this lovely little bakery whilst visiting Kendal, lovely decor, good choices of soft drinks (my boyfriend doesn't drink hot drinks so this was great for us) we had the lemon drizzle and the raspberry cheesecake brownie.. Oh my goodness!! So many choices of cakes, all fresh and homemade, served with a takeaway bag in case you can't finish your slice. It was wonderful. Also noticed they had Gluten Free options and overheard a conversation about all their flapjacks being suitable for GF as long as they're ok with porridge oats. Thankyou for a lovely birthday treat x

.... but the cakes were not quite as nice as they looked, and they were served on paper bags, not plates, the coffee was in disposable cups, despite sitting in, and it was a bit like a creche - 4 buggies inside the door and children all over the floor. Now I like - love - children, but it all just felt a bit odd. Very friendly service, and you will obviously be made very welcome if you bring youngsters.

We visited this bakery after a night's stay in Kendal. We bought some cakes to takeaway. The young woman that served us was very helpful and friendly. The small seating area inside looked cosy, inviting and child friendly. The date slice was the best I have ever tried. I also purchased a rectangular cake called a 'floorboard'. It was absolutely delicious. It was explained to us that the 'floorboard' is unique to the area of Kendal and that it was a school dinner treat from years ago. I loved the nostalgia attached to this cake and I felt like I came away with a slice of the past.

Well I won't be going back ,the food was awful ...the tomato ,basil and pesto soup had a horrible sharp but sugary sweet taste...the sandwich that came with it had the cheapest bright yellow " butter "on. ,a maximum of one slice of ham and the cheapest mustard . My 4 year old grandson could have made a better sandwich ! My husband had pie which had hardly any meat in it and the gravy was unusual tasting ( to say the least ) and sweet . I've had far superior microwave meals ! The toilets which were always an asset to the pub had gone downhill too.

We have been here many times over the years and love it. Dropped in for a drink last week. Wooooah! £9.80 for a Prosecco and a pint of cider shandy is the same price as a pint of cider - about £7. So by that maybe a pint of lemonade is also £7? I’m sure many people stop for a drink while walking in the beautiful lakes but next time we might find another stopping point. Although living in the North East maybe we just have cheaper pubs up here??!!

Cold and smelled of dogs on arrival. Waited ages to be served and the waitress was more interested on who was at the bar rather than taking our table order for 10 people. Food was very salty and the steak pie in particular was terrible. Every meal as standard/basic or frozen style food. The whole place is run down and miserable. We went off trip advisor reviews as well on a visit to the area and wished we hadn’t. Go to The Pheasant Inn down the road at Allithwaite instead that was lovely food and fab service.
