We have been collecting Fish & Chips from The Bakers Arms since the start of Covid which has always been fantastic. Tonight on the recommendation of my son, we went and ate in and oh my god, I didn’t think it could get any better but it was amazing. Can’t believe that not having to unwrap them would make such a difference. Well done #TeamBakersArms. Sorry no photos as was too hungry.

Well we traveled around essex for 2hrs looking for a pub that serves food on a Monday . Let’s say the 2hrs drive was worth It we starters of with a very warm welcoming We had warm soft bread to start Then for mains I had a large cod which was definitely large and cooked to perfection not greasy or oily the batter was crispy my girlfriend had the steak and ale pie with mash and peas and she said it was spot on ( btw she is the most negative person so for her to say this you know it was good) We finished of with treacle sponge and custard I had cherry Bakewell sponge and custard this was warm and fresh. So all in all a great meal and the price I thought she had made a mistake but no they are priced good If you like cod and chips trust me you don’t wanna miss out here

Wow, we stopped at this pub through luck of passing and it being a little late to get dinner for our family. The angels must of blessed us as the pizza I had was the best pizza I've ever had in my life, my partner had a cod and chips which he rates 10/10 our little ones also had mini cod and chips , it was all so fresh and well presented. Along with the outstanding food the landlady and landlord were so warm and welcoming. We're so thankful we have found such a all round beautiful place to eat and will definatly be returning. Thanks so much!

Fish & chips cooked to order and ready on time for collection. The fish was nice, but the chips were the frozen ones from a packet. Very greasy and not a patch on fresh cut chips. I see that other people like them, but we won't be buying again and will try a proper chip shop next time.

We stopped off here to break our journey to Maldon. Only a small car park but the pub was quiet at the time so that wasn't a problem on a Saturday afternoon. The pub was open for sit down customers, despite the sign outside giving a slightly different impression? In any case, we enjoyed the decor and atmosphere of the pub very much as well as our coffee and soft drinks. A nice stop off from our journey.

This is a local pub for us and we regularly have the fish and chips .We last went Friday and again it did not disappoint . The cod is the biggest and fattest for portion size I have ever had. The batter is light and crisp. It’s so good that I can’t eat fish and chips anywhere else it’s always very stodgy.. We haven’t tried any of the other meals we really go for the cod and chips. The dogs can be about in the bar but are very friendly and are kept out when requested and they are never allowed in the restaurant. This pub is very friendly and welcomes all ages . The beer festivals are good fun too! Long may it continue. Frankie and Phil

A group of us had lunch after a walk around Danbury woods. I had had take away fish and chips previously and was impressed with the quality so suggested we should try their lunch. 4 of us had fish and chips (various fish available) and all cleared their plates and commented how much they enjoyed it. One of our party had the chicken roast, again a cleared plate, good selection of vegetables. Very impressed. My partner and I had veggie/vegan options. A Wensleydale dale leek and cheese and cream tart with sweet potato fries and green beans presented as little bundles. Looked and tasted delicious. I had mushroom cranberry and beetroot tart with a choice of potatoes with beautifully cooked asparagus. These were from the specials board lots of different interesting food to choose. Landlord and lady very friendly and welcoming. All in all we were very impressed and will certainly be coming back and or ordering the fish and chips take away. Definitely recommend.

Normally get take away and send the husband in but this time we all sat inside to eat. Omg! I was expecting it to be a old pub style with patterned carpet and a dart board (sorry) but it was lovely and quite modern. I don’t think I’ve ever been to such a clean pub. The owners clearly take pride in their pub and it shows. The food was so fresh and really lovely. Even the side salads were super fresh and we all left full and happy. I saw this pub on my way to a delivery and seen that it advertised pizza to takeaway. I decided to have a pint of shandy while I looked at the menu. The alarm bells should have rung when the lady behind the bar asked what a margarita (cheese and tomato pizza) was. I ordered and paid, while waiting there were 2 large dogs behind the bar and in the dining area, this is unhygienic and not what I wanted to see. I waited nearly 30 minutes for a poor excuse of a frozen pizza, not fresh, and horrible rubbery cheap cheese. I was really disappointed.

Our elder son and his wife visited after Christmas so we went to my local for lunch. Our son is averse to fine dining so we thought the Bakers Arms would do fine. I know it well but this was only the first time I had had a proper meal there. The restaurant is in what was the public bar many years ago. It looks out on the pub garden. It has a dozen tables for 2 or 4 but on this Thursday we were the only ones eating. In the bar at the front of the pub there were just two elderly chaps reading newspapers. It was a typical quiet country pub at lunchtime. There is a good choice of dishes plus jackets, sandwiches and so forth. We each had a hot, cooked meal. I can't recall what the ladies had but mine was a vegetarian dish and his was fish and chips. Everyone was delighted with their food.We didn't drink much. It is a Greene King pub but there are guest beers plus about 4 lagers and a couple of ciders on tap.

Having visited Bradwell on Sea we decided to stop into a pub on the way home and came across this "vision in pink" driving through Danbury. So we stopped knowing absolutely NOTHING about the establishment. The young lady behind the bar was very very pleasant. The sign outside said the "The fish and chips in Essex" but as it was Sunday roast dinner was on the menu. As my partner is veterinarian the young lady made a special effort to find something to recommend. As it was a glorious day we went into beer garden to be met by some beautiful dogs, a bull mastiff cross, a great dane (stunning blue /grey)and a little terrier. All 3 so so friendly and enjoy the sunshine. The food was absolutely superb and the portions were huge. Suffice to say if I hadn't have been in public I would have licked the plate CLEAN!!! Will we be back you can be SURE of it!!!!

We think that so many other establishments could learn a huge amount from the genuinely good customer service demonstrated here at The Bakers Arms. They just seem to care. We felt pleased to be there and they seemed to be pleased that we were there too.The Bakers Arms is not part of a pub chain as such but is a tenanted Gray and Sons pub so each will be quite different I guess. The people serving were courteous, cheerful and friendly. They also do some excellent, good value, home cooked food too. If you are in to standardized Macs, BK or KFC you may not appreciate it as much as we did. The fish and chips was excellent. It comes in four sizes. The small is medium, the medium is large, the large is extra large and the extra large (advance notice required) must be just huge. We understand that the extra large is usually ordered as a dare by youngsters! The batter was light and crispy, the cod juicy and fresh, there were enough chips to feed the population of a small village and we had a large good mixed side salad too. There were several good real ales on too including Sharpes Doom Bar. There are two very friendly dogs (the size of small horses) wandering around too. All very informal.Thank you all at The Bakers Arms for all your hard work in giving us a really enjoyable evening. You deserve to do very well. Keep smiling.

We went out with the intention of eating in a different pub that had been recommended. When we got there we were told "we don't do food on a dart night" so off we went. The next pub we came to was the Bakers Arms. We asked if they did food and the barmaid had no idea and went to check. Yes they did. We had to climb over two very large dogs to get to our table. Every started we ordered was sold out, so was the Lasagna that my husband ordered. Every dessert we ordered was also sold out (We were told they had been very busy during the day - this was a Wednesday)! The food was very good, 3 of us had the well known fish and chips and 1 had the roast. The fish and chips were very good and the batter nice and light. The roast portion size was of a good size also although the veg had definitely seen better days and were rather tasteless. Puddings were nice but your standard sticky toffee, crumbles etc... Nothing jumped out as being home made which is a shame. They also didn't offer Latte's only Cappucino's for some reason. The bathroom facilities were good but we only found 1 Ladies & 1 Gents.

I visited this pub with a few friends last weekend for a couple of drinks, but the pub was such a nice environment everyone laughing and joking, lovely fire, the landlady was extremely welcoming. So we decided to stay for dinner, we sat down and ordered, large cod, haddock, pizza and vegetarian brie tart. The food came out very quickly considering the restaurant was busy, presented brilliantly with a small salad on the side of the plate, the large cod was massive! The batter was so light and crispy, the pizza was lovely thin base loads of flavour, and the tart was so creamy. We were all so full up after the meal we wondered round and sat by the fire had some more wine and enjoyed the rest of our evening (so much so we have actually booked a table for this weekend too). Visited this pub on a Friday lunchtime with my partner. My initial thoughs for the dining area where that it was nicely presented. Within the pub were 4 people drinking in the bar, 2 people eating at the dining area bar and a family of 5 sat waiting. There were no staff on view so we just sat at a table. After being sat down for 5 minutes no staff were seen or made themselves known so I took a menu off the bar. I then waited at the bar for another prolonged period with no staff insight. The regular drinkers were ringing a bell to draw staff attention but to no avail despite them ringing it a number (4) of times. I then decided enough was enough and went to get my partner to leave when a lady staff member came out from behind the bar carrying food for the seated family and offered a half hearted sorry. My tip here would be to avoid this venue during busy periods ( 10 people or more) as you may not get any customer service.I cannot comment on the food, etc but can say the the service was appalling.

We regularly have take away fish and chips form the bakers arms. They are always excellent! If you prefer 5 quid frozen fish sitting under hot lights for an hour then go to a local chippy down the road (very average); At the Bakers Arms you get fresh fish battered and cooked to order with Freshly fried Chips. Whilst more expensive than the flake sold down the road, this is a quality product and as such will attract a customer who is after such quailty. Your order will be readly whenever you would like to pick it up although if the Pub is busy you may need to wait an extra 15 min before leaving home to pick it up, remember, its cooked to order. A quality product may take an extra 15 min! have a drink whilst you are waiting! In 5 years of having fish and chips from the bakers arms , they have always been excellent and we highly recommend them.

Despite standing on the main road, pretty in pink and festooned in flowers, the Baker's Arms is still one of Danbury's best-kept secrets. The pub's rough reputation has long gone and it is now a friendly and welcoming pub with well-kept ales and excellent freshly cooked fish and chips. The landlady is a delight, charming and friendly to regulars, whom she regards as "family", and first-time visitors alike. Even the guard dogs (two massive great danes) are friendly. I have been going to the Bakers Arms once or twice a week for the last 35 years so I have seen a few landlords/landladies come and go in that time. Today's landlady, Caley, runs a very tight ship. Coming from pub owning family, she knows the ropes. She has invested a lot of effort into getting the pub the way she wants it. There is a sociable public bar and a bistro/restaurant that takes about 40. There's a pub garden too that the smokers have recourse too. While it is a tenanted pub, Caley stocks a different guest beer each week. Twice a year she organises a beer festival.Dogs are welcome.

The menu wasn't huge, but the fish selection excellent, so we decided to give it a try. The food arrived very well presented and the fish we ordered cooked to the highest standard, all freshly made, it was coated in light fluffy batter and the portion size excellent. I phoned at 6.30 to place my order, when asked how far away I was, I replied just 10 minutes but they kindly asked if I could wait till 7. So I sat in my car till 7 and went in to collect. Firstly it was on the side in a bag - How long has it been there for and secondly, It cost an extortionate £15.70 for 2 Small Haddock and 1 Small Chips! I didn't complain at all because I still hadn't seen and tasted my food. Once I'd got home, 2 miles away in car; it was cold so had to go in the oven, the fish was tiny and the batter was anaemic. Lesson learnt - never again.

a really nice lunch was served up at this traditional roadside country pub, i liked it particularly because although it looks a bit old fashioned from outside the actual inside of the pub is very homely and the restaurant is contemporary.the food was very reasonably priced and cooked really well, the fish and chips was amazing, i asked for a meduim and it was a very generous portion, my wife had the chicken and mushroom pie, all home made and lovely, the staff were cheerful and efficient and i will definitely visit again

Have only had fish & chips to take away from this pub/restaurant (on a number of occasions) but excellent quality every time. Also, very friendly service and food always ready exactly on time.

Whether you eat in or takeaway, their fish and chips are excellent. Big portions of fresh fish and light crispy batter freshly cooked-the best in the area. In addition, they have a good range of other food on the menu and pub snacks. They also have some good beers. But the fish and chips are their speciality.

Decided to stop off here after work as the sign always caught my eye about the Fish & Chips.Firstly I only wanted an honest good quality hearty meal to fill a gap and thats exactly whats I got.Quaint old small honest clean pub, addressed by a friendly barmaid who offered advise of the menu, Granted the menu is very small and limited, Also the pub specialises in the Fish & Chips and offers a takeaway service. There is a ledendary claim of extra large cod and chips for £18, large, medium and small options therefore I decided to go for the medium......This was a plate full in it's self therefore how big are the other options?????Yes it was a good plate full with a tasty fresh Cod, hot steaming chips, mushy peas and side salad. The negitive part is that the portion is large therefore unless your a very quick eater then the chips go cold and slightly plate stale, but thats not a bad thing really.Good honest pub grub with big portions

I can't believe Tony from Chelmsford was talking about this Pub/restaurant,I was looking for somewhere to eat and passed this pub whilst travelling home from Malden and stopped off on the off chance and I could not fault the establishment, the staff were friendly and helpful, they informed me that there speciallity is fish so that is what we ordered, the quality was excellent and the portions generous, my only constructive suggestion will be that instead of serving all the meal on 1 plate I personally would prefer the chips in a seperate bowl, my wife who is a fussy eater thoroughly enjoyed her meal too, the wine list whilst not the largest certainly covered our preferencesTo summarise, I would reccomend this pub and will return in the very near future

Overpriced fish and chips ! very click'y atmosphere , if you want good food in Danbury stick to the other two alternatives on the Maldon road , I thought I would give this a go for a change! Unfortunately not worth the effort or the money come to that!

Came out with another couple for a nice Friday evening meal and drinks. We were not disappointed. The restaurant area is clean and has a fresh modern decor, and the service is friendly and efficient. We had all ordered the fish and chips and were happy to tuck in to the best ones that are served in this area. Really delicious, well presented and generous portions. There are many other choices on the menu by the way, and if you just want a drink there is a separate bar area. The beer is very well kept according to my husband and his friend, both of whom are particular about their beers. There is a garden for use in good weather, and a small car park, but the village has plenty of evening parking by the duck pond or in the public car park opposite the library.

Last year I was doing hospitality and catering level 2 and I was waitering in this restaurant so I know what it’s like. Then I thought why don’t I just see what’s it’s like as a customer? Came today and OMG! I love it. Food was brilliant! I ordered a scotch egg (it was really filling but it was lovely), sweet and sour pork with fried rice (this meal combined brilliantly!), and profiteroles (the choux pastry was good and cream and chocolate was amazing). The service was good but as I learnt last year how to do posh waitering you have to serve from the left and clear from the right and you have to do de-crumbing e.t.c. They didn’t do de crumbing or the serve and clear as they forgot. I understand that. But even though I absolutely loved it (it did feel awkward as I was a waiter before here but you can get used to it! 😂) Definitely will come again! Thank you princes room restaurant. And well done to the waiter! 😁😁

Popped in for Tea and cake on a lovely day, usually visit about 8 times a year on nice days and weekdays only, Parking is Free, but only about 7 spaces connected to the Tea Room, don't be confused by the field parking next door which is £5 and is not affiliated with the Tea room, register your vehicle number when ordering food, toilets available for Customers, so a Tea and cake and 1 Hour stroll along the river, always good service here,we have seen some demanding members of the public getting mixed up and thinking its all one thing then getting it all wrong and throwing toys out of their prams when they are clearly wrong but can't see it, So you can park free for limited time, pay for food and drinks and use the garden seating (or inside) and use their toilet facilitys, can't say fairer than that and if you want a cheap lunch go to Tesco for a meal deal at £3.50

Being the festive season, we went along to see the Christmas display. This year they had changed the layout, etc., and it was even better than before, with a lot more space, even more stalls, and delicious German market-style food!
