I was on the way to the farm and stopped to stretch the legs in Oswestry. I stumbled upon this establishment as lure of ale pulled me closer. To my dismay, one I got closer I spotted the presence of wrong'un flags draped from the windows. This included the South African LGTV flag and the Ukrainian flag. Simply poor taste for a traditional ale house opposite the marvellous town hall. Rectify this immediately!

A relaxing second visit to The Bailey Head on Tuesday 17 September 2024 after an earlier hospital appointment . The Bailey Head is situated in a traffic free market square. The range of quality real ales is outstanding with a varying series of guest ales including a dark real ale . We had a great Brass Castle Bad Kitty Vanilla Porter and on our previous visit we were impressed by the lovely dark ales . The Bailey Head has outdoor seating at the front of the building . The entrance leads straight into the bar area with a variety of different seating areas along the front of the building and then running down the left hand side with a further space to the rear. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable- The Bailey Head is rightly a Camra Good Beer Guide regular and is a regional pub of the year . Well worth visiting

Never been a regular at the pub. However, the owners have taken it upon themselves to send me a letter urging me to vote Lib Dem in the next election. Not sure why they have my name and address, but I do not appreciate it. Edit: Just wanted to comment on the irony of these two, clearly middle class, people, and their pricey drinks selection, sending me a letter like this. They couldn't have missed their target audience more.

A CAMRA award winning pub on numerous occasions over the years, not to mention many other local recommendations. This small community pub has been flying the "real & craft" ale flags consistantly for years. It hosts the best selection of beers for miles around, with great staff & service to boot. We've been visiting this pub for the last 10+ years and its consistancy is second to none. If you're ever up this way it is certainly worth a visit & highly recommended. Duncan & Grace the owners are lovely people & great hosts. Highly recommended. Note: Food is no longer available, but the eating of food inside the pub, but purchased outside is usually acceptable. My disabled wife and I visited The Bailey Head in Oswestry for the first time on a sunny Saturday 17th June 2023. Note The Bailey Head no longer serves food , so it is a pub not a restaurant, but a note on its website states they will allow customers to bring in their own food . It took a little bit of hunting down as it is in a pedestrianised area in the centre of Oswestry. We were able to park wthin easy walking distance down from the pay and display car park, free after six o'clock at night, behind the Market Hall . The Bailey Head has six outdoor bench type tables under sun umbrellas in front of the establishment with the entrance at the centre of the building. The Bailey Head is the local area Camra ( Campaign for Real Ale) pub of the year and we were both very impressed with the quality , range and taste of the beers on offer. We had a lovely drink of Black Iris Myld Stallyns ( a dark mild) in beautiful condition costing £3.90 . The pub is comfortable with a large L shaped space wrapped around the bar but divided in smaller zones by interior beams . The team behind the bar were very friendly and informative and we soon we chatting with another customer . My wife , who uses a wheeled walking aid found access around the building to be very easy and the seating was very comfortable . The electronic beer list can be viewed on screens in the pub and can be seen on the Untapped website . Do be aware that some of the draught ales are Key Keg but they do have a wide range of handpulled real ales . A great real ale hostelry- highly recommended- looking forward to revisiting!

Good vibes and a finely tuned atmosphere of 50s rock and roll music, old worldy building and knowledgeable guy on the bar who knew his beer and gin. We even had a tour of the mass of guest beers that are all pinned on the ceiling, apparently several hundred a year which says it all about this pub. This was a stop by on the way from Cardiff back to Manchester but we will return purely for the host (Tom? Jon?), friendly people and how purely comfortable we were made to feel and we might even bring Jake! There is food, too - again though a very select menu of local offerings designed as an adjunct to the main liquid event. Not to be missed, though, is the stupendous venison casserole and the ever-changing and imaginative vegan soup. It’s a great, no-nonsense pub with all the right attitudes. I love this place, I've worked in a few and drank in a few more, but this place is unique. There's a very friendly warm atmosphere, my dogs are welcome as are my fellow homos.

Great pub in centre of a town not known for its real ales until now! Terrific choice of draft and craft ales, ciders, gins and more. Interesting choice of local foods including pies, cheeses, scotch eggs. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Children and dog friendly.

My wife and I had our wedding reception at the Bailey Head, and we couldn't have asked for a better day! The pub was decorated beautifully, the food was amazing, and the beer was excellent as always. I've been a regular at the Bailey for a long time and I wouldn't expect anything less. Service is always fast and professional, the staff are polite, knowledgeable, and always happy to help. Despite the relatively small menu, the food on offer is very good, with pies, scotch eggs, cheese boards, antipasti platters and similar, as well as casseroles and stews, with vegan options.

Visited several times and never been disappointed. The beers available are often local but not limited to. Well kept, and with great knowledge from the staff/owners. Always made to feel welcome however busy. In short - the best pub in Oswestry!

After a days work what more could one want that a chilled glass of wine and a spot outside in the spring sunshine watching Market life go by. Why we love this place.... The wine is not the only thing chilled, the atmosphere is too... no noisy TVs, no elbows out at the trough of ping meal bars, no totally enibriated clients wishing to either fight you or love you. Just people chewing the cud of life with their hounds, they may have a parchante for a game of sedate dominos, they may wish to debate a bit of local politics but nothing gets out of hand. There is a gentle but firm, silent agreement that one behaves in a certain way and if you don’t it’s time to go home or just move on to a place which is better placed to accommodate more gagarious behaviour. And of course then there is the best stock bar in town, possibly in the country. Whatever your tipple you will not be disappointed.

The only downside of our visit was that although we booked last Thursday and had evidence on our phone , when we arrived they didn’t have us booked in . Not a problem on a Wednesday evening but could be an issue on a busy Saturday. Every thing else was great. Lovely setting, relaxing atmosphere great decor. Staff were friendly and the service was good. We had mushrooms , pate, cod , chicken , cheesecake and affogato, all tasty well cooked and nicely presented. Really enjoyed it and will definitely visit again.

We went to the Red Lion one evening with family in October. Since the group was a bit larger, we were asked to announce our choice of food in advance when making the reservation. The menu with a large selection was available online, so that wasn't a problem for us. Each of the guests had chosen something different and, after a short wait, everyone was served their food at the same time. The service staff were very attentive. The guests, including those from France and Germany, were extremely satisfied and we had a lovely evening at the Red Lion. It's great that a small place like Myddle offers a restaurant like this. We'd love to come back! P.S. The Spiced Lamb Burger with Oregano fries and tzatziki and the Grilled Seabass Fillets with roasted garlic potatoes were great!
