Really friendly staff and local trade.

Ali and zac and another lady made us feel very welcome. Very friendly pub. Great service. Just a pity they didn't do food at the time of our visit. They are only just starting on the kitchen at the moment to do food. I'm sure when they do. It will be great. But thank you everyone for making us feel very welcome. Highly recommend this pub in Sidmouth.

Served the person stood behind me, so awkward. And then basically did it again 30 mins later. Weird unpredictable service, top prices, can't recommend.

Large room as you enter with pool table to your right. Restaurant area at the rear of the premises. Wooden floors in bar area with TV on the wall. Tap beers available but no real ales. Staff were friendly, polite and helpful. Guinness was beautiful. Enjoyed my visit.

My mum went to use the toilet in here as she has a bowel condition and carries a card to say as such. Unfortunately she was told that the pub was 'not a charity' and told her to buy a bag of maltesers! Absolutely disgraceful

Food soon, after kitchen refurbishment. Recently taken over by mother/son team. Highly recommended!

Delicious hot, well filled bagels; served by keen young staff. Clean and fresh surroundings with a well presented toilet. Positioned in a small alley just of the sea front with an outside seating area. Well worth a visit if you enjoy a bagel.

Arrived at this lovely pub when visiting sidmouth. Under new management, a very lovely welcome from the landlady, nothing was too much trouble and how refreshing to receive good old fashioned customer service. If you live in sidmouth you are very lucky to have this on your doorstep and hope you will support their efforts.

Nice friendly place, not expensive for drinks. Very clean.

Tucked up an alley between the main shopping streets. Cosy licensed café with a courtyard opposite serving excellent coffee and range of delicious bagels. Attractive venue but five star if it wasn't for the ugly and unwelcome plastic plants. 🇬🇧🇳🇿

Decided to commute up to Sidmouth today and came to this bagel shop. We arrived and were greeted by lovely staff. When we sat down I noticed their wasn't any menus which I think wouldnt be that difficult to do as it's only a small cafe area, just so you can sit and read what options are available before going up to order. Our order came out pretty fast which was amazing! we had coffee and bagels but I would definitely say the coffee could be improved. This could be such a snazzy shop if you had some coffee art added into the mix too. It shows that you care about every coffee made. Overall It was a lovely stop off in the rain!

Do not eat here. The chips were fried in old oil. My friend got instant coffee. The only plus, the guy serving us was polite and friendly. What a disappointment.

Amazing Sunday lunch... Too much food to finish off. However, if you're a dog lover, take them too.... They have a doggie Sunday lunch for FREE, They have recently spent money on a paint job, much more inviting than before. Only flaw; toilets need some investment. Other than that, great staff, good pint, great Sunday roast and doggie dinner too ! Thank you

This is an excellent place for refreshment in sidmouth. With keen friendly staff willing to help, great atmosphere and extremely clean and tidy, it's a great place to chill and unwind!

Just had the best roast dinner, the food was amazing, my husband and me had a small roast and we couldn’t eat it all. It was amazing, roast pork and turkey was superb. Highly recommended, great friendly staff .

No atmosphere tape on bar a gave away. Looks like in the past renovations had taken place and now may be being renovated again. Facilities basic. On average a kind of sad place at the present.

Went in to Sidmouth one evening went in to the black horse had a drink and a game of darts.

Definitely NOT closed! A supreme cali style CBA (chicken, bacon, avocado) and a spiced up bockwurst, both heavily stuffed with delicious filling. Good service, the mocha was delicious, the latte milky as it should be and the setting - just off the main drag - welcoming. We’d come back again for sure!

Free pool and a good pint wot more do you need?

my wife and i visited for a lite lunch and was not disappointed. amazing veggie selection and great quality food. would 100% recommend.

I would not recommend this place. The bagel bread is not fresh and tastes very dry. They use very low quality ingredients inside. We both took one bite and decided not to have any more despite the high price point.

A bit cold atmosphere but enjoyed my drink

This pub feels lost, it doesn't know what it is anymore. All the pubs/cafes I. Sidmouth was absolutely rammed but this was completely empty.

The lasagne and the 🍎 crumble and custard were so delicious and the people served it were so friendly.l would recommend this place for the great atmosphere and good tasty home made food.

Right here we go .. sorry but the bacon was barely cooked- pink & not crispy. Yuk. The white roll had no butter or spread in it - would’ve been nice toasted. The 2 slices of tomato thrown in were tasteless and fell apart. It went straight in the bin as one look at it made my stomach churn. The coffee was nice.

Basic. No table and chairs in big room, plenty if your eating, but looking at it didn't fancy anything, barman putting up bunting whilst trying to serve customers and very highly prices on the drinks , definitely not a holiday makers pub

Slow for food but great value and staff very good

We stopped here for a light bite in April 2023. We had the bacon and brie and the New Yorker. Our overall experience was average at best being polite. The bagels were unimpressive. My general view is that you could produce the same at home to the same standard, if not better and not feel robbed in terms of cost to your pocket in the process. Photographs of our bagels attached. Unfortunatley, based on our experience, we would not recommend and would not go back. We have had bagels from the Jar Bakery and Cafe on Fore Street, Sidmouth. These were much better and a similar price.

Not sure what is happening to this pub but every year it is getting more and more run down. Sadly now it's almost like a derelict building inside with the furniture to match. Its in such a great position and should be as busy as the Anchor just down the street. It needs sorting out otherwise it will probably turn into another coffee shop like the other old pubs in Sidmouth. On the positive it is dog friendly.

Ordered a small plate for roast dinner for £6 was not expecting the huge dinner brought out, it was delicious roast pork cooked to perfection! Staff were friendly and helpful, with leftover bones/meat at the bar for dogs who were welcome. Only thing they need to improve on is to advertise themselves more!

Good value pub grub, especially sandwiches served with a salad garnish and tortilla crisps.

Don't usually leave google reviews, but a group of 4 of us just had a lovely Sunday dinner in the Black horse today. It was very quiet in there compared to the place we tried first up the road, which was rammed and we couldn't get a table. The Sunday roast was absolutely brilliant though and we really couldn't fault it. I thought i'd write a review as i don't like to see places quiet that are doing a great job. Well done Black Horse, we will pop in again when next in town!

From the outside thus pub looks like a typical old and dark pub. It was pleasantly light and comfortable. Very clean, staff friendly andcthe food was lovely.

We wandered in on a Monday night to find no other customers other than one, obviously a regular, propping up the bar and what was possibly the landlady at the other end of said bar The barman was unable to provide Prosecco or indeed the correct glass for my Wife's second option. There was no carpet which was probably a good thing given how sticky and nasty the other furniture was, then when we thought things couldn't get anywhere another customer appeared who was very clearly on more than alcohol! This pub sits between two of Sidmouths main streets, is huge and really could be a destination instead of the last vestiges of the desperate and homeless.

We happened upon The Bagel Shop tucked down a narrow side street whilst looking for a lunch provider. Obviously we both had a very tasty bagel tat was well filled with our choice of filling. Very fast and efficient friendly service. Ate it outside on their seats. Will we go again? - Yes

Called in for Sunday lunch well what a disappointment that was the veg's was from frozen the beef was catering sliced very poor indeed we will not be going back that's for sure 😡

Absolutely shocking. A few months ago it was a nice place to be. But recently all you see is a very drunk Landlady with a gin glass constantly in one hand barking abuse at what I can only assume is her husband.... All whilst her child is running around the pub! Doesn't feel like the warm welcoming pub it was when we last came here in April. It's absolutely filthy too. 1 star is far too generous in my opinion. Avoid like the plague. Don't even stop to use the toilets as there is white powder everywhere!

Hen Party, Saturday 20th August, Kirsty and Jason, landlord of the Blackhorse pub were the best hosts for our small party of 12 ladies, what a warm welcome and could not do enough for us, Kirsty and Jason provided free glass of bubbly on arrival, they decorated the room and table that we sat at for the afternoon and the food that we all had was brilliant, I myself had the lasagne and that was served with garlic ciabatta bread and side salad and that has to be the best home made lasagne I have had in a long time, Kirsty and Jason provided the music and free pool table, what fantastic hosts they are, made a great day out for the bride to be, thank you Kirsty and Jason. Overall we had a fantastic day thanks to the Blackhorse. x

Came here for lunch, my parents food was burnt and my lasagna was cold. Tried to blame it on cold plates but it was clearly the chef….. how hard is it to warm something up in the microwave!!! Absolutely diabolical!! Avoid avoid avoid

Visited Saturday Afternoon july 30th 2022, nice beer helpfull girl behind bar, let down was the Curry of the Day for £10.yuk ..poppadom soggy could have been the chefs dish cloth couldnt tell the difference uneatable.Beware

Upper dining area quite nice and clean, all other areas in need of a good scrub and decorating, understand the present owners took over in February '22.

Warm welcome, prompt service, good food on hot plates, nice and clean.

Nice staff place in need of decorating and the food standards need vast improvment. We called in for a breakfast cheap sausage beans like yesterdays warm ups not a place i would go again

It's a long story but I'm awarding 5 stars to the landlady who was so welcoming and helpful and her kind husband who drove us up to Faraway Common airfield when there were no taxis. The pub was quite busy and obviously popular - even on a Monday night 🙂

Came in a few weeks back with a few friends, absolutely love the atmosphere here. Friendly family run pub, fantastic choice of food, cooked to perfection and despite how busy they were the staff still took time to talk to us and make sure all was ok. Our second time visiting The Bagel Shop and we are yet to be disappointed. Lovely courtyard shop, friendly staff and delicious, generously filled bagels. What I am most impressed with is their ability to cater for and flexibility around my unusual rocket allergy, no trouble at all. Sadly dived into the food before taking a picture… we can’t wait to go back and tick off more of the menu… YUM!!

Usually love this place, cannot fault the staff of the cleanliness at all, however I ordered the Blt bagel and it was dripping in mayonnaise to the point I couldn’t really eat it, and the bacon didn’t even look to be cooked it was just pure fat, and since they were quiet I would of expected the bacon to be properly cooked!

Just happened to come across The Bagel Shop when we were looking for a takeaway lunch on my birthday last week, and very pleased I am that we did! Lovely service, great choice of bagels and fillings, and very obliging service. Would thoroughly recommend The entry way/outdoor area was a little shabby, but understandable under the circumstances (seagulls, shared space etc) Don’t let it put you off!

Vast choice of just about everything you could possibly want, GF options as well. Fast and efficient service, to take out and eat on the Sea Front or in the courtyard if there is space.

This is slightly hidden away in a courtyard but well worth a visit for lunch. I recommend the avocado and haloumi bagels.

Don't waste your time going anywhere else! Simply order the Mexican Chipotle Chicken, take it to the beach, and you'll never regret it. The best place in Sidmouth, hands down!

OMG, these fresh and lovely chewy bagels were delicious. A pretty extensive menu, speedily prepared and prettily wrapped. So good we went back again the next day and took some home. Best option was the onion and sesame, yummy.

First visit to the bagel shop was a real treat. The Game Burger was so good that when I was mugged by a seagull for the first one I went back and bought the second and ate it outside the venue under the awning.
