The Badminton Arms in South Gloucestershire

Ok for the price. Had the large full English, Bacon and sausages was nice, mushrooms was nice but small quarter cust and only a small amount maybe 2 actually mushrooms, fried egg was overcooked hard and rubber. Fried bread was nice and black pudding ok. Comes with a tea or coffee, coffee was instant I would preferred the option to upgrade to properly coffee. Toilets smelled strongly of urine and I had to clean dried fecal matter of the toilet seat.

New manager and really lovely food, service and atmosphere. Nothing was too much trouble. Recommend the children’s pizza. Love the cheesy chips sides and the 4 layer chocolate fudge cake is “happy making” I’m told.

Ordered a large roast beef dinner takeaway. The order arrived with vegetables and gravy but no beef whatsoever. I submitted a claim on just eat and called the restaurant. The lady who answered was disinterested, took my details and asked if I wanted the beef sent out…, the original order took 1 hour to be delivered At first I said yes, but then having looked at the un appetising, soggy vegetables, I the called her back and told her I no longer wanted to wait for my beef, she then hung up on me!! Disgusting food, awful service. Do not order from The Badminton Arms, Coalpit Heath, Bristol. Update. The Badminton Arms replied below saying it was Just Eats fault. See attached the receipt attached to my delivery showing it was their mistake. I’d have more respect for them if they simply apologised and offered a refund- which they did not!

Second visit in a week and another disaster. Although their social media page suggests an 08.30 opening on a Saturday. And confirmed by them, a hand written note to the signage outside notes it's 09.00. Although only visible by standing close to the banner. After ordering a vegetarian breakfast, my meal came with bacon. As two witnesses will confirm the 'chef doesn't read English particularly well and guessed'. Although that was so say explained in a recent comment that 'a new system was being installed' with 'teething problems', also mentioned the chef had, apparently been there for eight years. Surely then experience suggests he would have questioned the order? Yes, we all make mistakes, but adding a dead carcass onto an order that clearly stated 'vegetarian', is totally unacceptable. Lovely Sunday carvery! Meat was lovely - especially the lamb. I chose to just have a small plate and it was more than enough. There was a big group of us and we all said we'd come again especially as we have a coeliac in our family so the gluten free carvery was a great choice. The restaurant was full being Mother's Day but didn't feel too busy.

Arrived at 8:30 for breakfast, then a tradesman also waiting for breakfast spotted that in very small writing it said “9am on Saturday”, so we waited! The following week my partner, who is vegetarian, took friends there for breakfast, only to be presented with bacon on his plate. When questioning this with the waitress, she replied “Sorry, the chef doesn’t speak much English, so he just guesses!” Sorry Badminton Arms, we won’t be returning!

Food was good but on this occasion the service was slow, even though plenty of staff there.. the young ladies seemed more interested in adjusting their hair rather than keeping an eye on tables but we weren't in any rush and the food was good so no complaints, just an observation

Unfortunately I can't really recommend the Badminton Arms after my recent visit. I stopped in with 4 other work colleagues for a breakfast which was a 'pay for the items you want' set up. We all ordered and waited around 10mins to be served. When our food came out, 3 of the 5 breakfasts were wrong with less items than ordered, incorrect items on the plate etc. They took the plates back and corrected the mistakes but 3 had finished their breakfasts before 1 had even been given theirs. If they were busy then I could maybe understand but we were the only people there at the time! The staff member we dealt with was polite and she did apologise but an overall bad experience.

Great carvery, the food is amazing!

Food was good. But made to wait outside in the pouring rain for the doors to be opened.There were elderly and disabled people waiting there. The doors should be opened at least 10 minutes before a 12 pm booking time so customers can take there seats. It took 10 minutes for our party to be seated. Nobody at bar for at least 15 minutes after opening time. Took 15 minutes for ordered drinks to arrive.But staff friendly.

Provably the best carvery I’ve had in a while, at a very reasonable price. The only disappointment was one small stuffing ball with large meal.

Beer was excellent, so was fish and chips. No waiting to order at bar, I was lucky normally a queue. Order came quickly to our table. Great atmosphere, staff helpful efficient and friendly

According to your website your carvery is open 12-7.30 however we walked in at 3pm and was told it was closed until 5. We drove a way to come for the carvery only to have to leave as the carvery was closed. If you're going to close between 3-5 you should not say 12-7.30. As we then had to drive further to find another place to eat.

Called in for something to eat, we tried there 2 Specials the Omelette and the Fishcake meals, Both were Absolutely Amazing, cannot recommend the Fishcake meal highly enough Definitely 10/10 will certainly have it again

Food listed on deliveroo as gluten free but food containing gluten was delivered. Either change your allergen labelling on deliveroo or ensure you are sending out gluten free food. Thankfully I have visted this carvery in person previously so i knew the trimmings contained gluten, however not everybody would know this. It is dangerous to mislabel food allergens

Poor. We were shown to a table and then left for fifteen minutes before a member of staff came for the drinks order. When the drinks eventually came there two mistakes. I asked if we could go up to the carvery and get some food but was told I would have to wait for another member of staff to come and take my order... Ten minutes later and someone came to ask if we were ready to order, then we had to wait for her to go and get us tickets to hand over for the carvery. From arrival to sitting down with a plate of food was over half an hour despite being able to see and smell the carvery we were kept from it... When we got the food quite a lot was not hot (it might have been half an hour before) but was generally tasty regardless. Someone came to ask if we wanted more drinks, we didn't, then someone started clearing our plates before everyone had finished eating. We weren't asked if we wanted desserts before we went to leave or if everything was alright. We may come back but probably not and certainly not in the near future.

Nice place, probably 30 yrs since my last visit when it was called The Halfmoon. We went mid afternoon, and only a few people there. It seemed very large but very clean and tidy. A good selection of drinks. A good selection of lite bites at reasonable prices. Obviously, it does a Carvery but unavailable at the time of our visit, so I am unable to comment on such.

Fancied a roast and went late Sunday afternoon and had a lovely carvery on Sunday. Great choice of veg, including cauliflower cheese (always a winner for me). Everything was nice and hot and I enjoyed every bit of it. We also had a pudding which we both enjoyed. Friendly staff and reasonable prices. Will be going again in the future.

We came for a family birthday meal We were seated and offered drinks straight away from member of staff And then for our food order at our table Brought us a high chair Carvery was lovely all enjoyed by family members A member of staff was happy to bring a cake out to the table with candles lit as a surprise for a birthday occasion All staff we spoke to were helpful It was also a very hot day and they opened up the fire exit doors for us when asked with no problems with anything We will return thank you

Went here for carvery today with friends (one of which is vegan) and was lied to by a member of staff about possible cross-contamination on the carvery. He said to us that separate tongs were used for meat and non-meat products, although we watched him use them for both on multiple occasions. When talking to the manager about this, we were told that the member of staff was “filling in for someone else” and that it had been a hectic day. He offered a weak apology and continued with a dismissive attitude, and kept walking away while trying to have a conversation with him. This made us wonder what other precautions may have been overlooked?? The meal itself was bland and the roast potatoes were frozen. However, the cauliflower cheese was a highlight. Other than this, members of staff looked bored, and presented a ‘not wanting to be there’ attitude towards customers…a smile does go a long way. And some of staff needed to tie their hair back as some had hair down to their waist which could have ended up in someone’s meal!! Also had to ask for cutlery, and the member of staff rolled his eyes at us.

We popped into the Badminton Arms for a carvery yesterday as we were passing & in the past had an enjoyable meal but today not so much. Quality has gone down. Roast potatoes cold & poor quality, Yorkshire pudding cold & like eating cardboard. Out of 10 & 10 being excellent our carvery dinner was only in my opinion 3. But on the plus side staff were very friendly & the roast beef was very nice.

The carvery is beautiful and the meat melts in your mouth! Staff were friendly and welcoming we will definitely be back!

Came here for food regularly, had a roast Sunday evening, gammon and beef was fantastic, help yourself to veg and roasties, can’t beat this place for value and atmosphere! See you soon

Went for late carvery dinner (about 6:30pm) Most of the pub was given over to watching football (perhaps we should have anticipated that). Carvery offering was very tired, only turkey or beef, veg all a bit past their best. Service was friendly. Would have been good value for money if the food had been better. They closed the carvery service fairly shortly after we had been served - it would have been useful to know that we were going to be "tailenders" (we had rung and booked a table earlier in the van)

Awful carvery for £12.99. Gammon no flavor the beef was chewy Yorkshire pudding burnt rock hard. Carrots too salty and potatoes were frozen out of the bag. Only thing I liked was the cauliflower. The coke I had was more enjoyable for me one to miss going forward. No atmosphere had to ask for cutlery

EXCELLENT SERVICE !! and first class meals. Brilliant every time , highly recommended We had carvery , the meat was just cooked to perfection, the vegetables the freshest ever had from a carvery . Very High Quality and the best for 40 miles around in my opinion !!

Almost door to door on the bus from where I live. Went for the medium carvery, ample even for a big appetite! What struck me most was how friendly, helpful and attentive the bar staff were. I like my real ale and only Butcombe Original available but it was a good, well kept and well served pint. So good I had three!!

A group of us eat monthly and enjoy the carvery available. The range of beer/lager is fine. However, there's a new publican now and the friendly manner of the old staff has been replaced by an all-male one, very formal in manner and which had to be chased for service.

Our family booked for a meal on Easter Sunday. Hadn't been since before COVID. One word covers everything. Excellent. All food was wonderfully prepared and served..Three of us chose Carvery. Beef was perfection.My choice. Others said the same about lamb and turkey. Will definitely make a habit of coming again.J.Franklin and family.

Had large takeaway beef and medium turkey. Best takeaway sunday roast in the area. Well done.

I would highly recommend special the Sunday lunches it was very tasty and it very hot all way though when you were eat it. There were three meats you can choose from there lots of vegetables to choose too. It is good for value for money. They do three sizes of plates small medium and large. It has disabled parking and rumps inside and out so good for wheelchairs access. I would definitely come here again

Been here numerous times for Carvery, today we tried the takeaway option. It was absolutely lovely and my request for which veg to out was not an issue. Pleasant staff a always, I did have to wait a bit but it was bang on opening time besides it lovely so who worries. Highly recommend and nice to seem the seasonal veg as well.

We got a take away roast and it was delicious! The best take away roast I've ever had. We all ate every bit. We had a lovely big portion of beef and lamb. I would definitely recommend.

Today, at 9 pm, I went to the pub with my partner , but the person working there informed us that the pub was closed, even though the closing time was supposed to be 11 pm. It seems to be discriminatory behaviour.

Was told last booking was 6:30, when we turned up we’re very rushed go eat( hadn’t even sat down or ordered anything) which made me feel very uncomfortable. While getting the food they turned the lights off while we were still getting it. Paid £40 for a rushed and uncomfortable meal. Wasn’t made aware that 6:30pm was clean up or we’d have gone elsewhere. Won’t be coming back.

Seated reasonably fast on a Thursday lunch time (not busy), ordered a carvery meal, the carvery seemed unprepared for people at 1pm, waited a bit and got food, beef was excellent, the veg however was a bit bland and reheated. One member of staff seemed a bit unfriendly and unhelpful at times, others were alright. Décor was bleak with dim lighting, seemed very stuffy. Overall alright food, service was good (bar 1 staff member) and atmosphere was quite. (Also, times are unstated on when the carvery is open)

The food was excellent quality, the only thing as a change would be to have leeks in cheese sauce, parsnips or a choice of potatoes. But as I said the quality of the carvery was excellent.

Had Sunday carving with family for birthday dinner. Staff were very attentive to me and my bestie (as we're both disabled) and friendly staff. Highly recommended

Lovely atmosphere, lovely food. Came back after a year or so, now as someone who is dairy intolerant. I chose a carvery but noticed all veg had been steamed and buttered, manager came and explained he could ask the chefs to just steam some veg with no butter and serve it to my table. This was absolutely lovely and a relief, being intolerant, especially dairy, can mean dining out places is hard. However, all I was given was a plate of meat and veg. I had to ask again for gravy, then I had to ask for potatoes twice as the server forgot. Just makes people like me feel more awkward when we're not trying to be. Personally wouldn't come here again for a carvery as its easier to go somewhere that don't butter ALL their veg.

Easy parking with plenty of spaces. The pub was busy but it is large & there was plenty of spaces There is a normal pub menu plus a Carvery. The food was excellent as was the service. My friend has mobility issues & the staff helped him on several occasions. Extremely enjoyable visit, recommended 👌

Very poor, A cold carvery advertised as " Freshly prepared vegetables " Actually a selection of frozen vegetables. When I complained to the waitress she " replied it's difficult to keep warm as its there for hours " Absolutely discourteous with no acknowledgement. Please avoid, save your cash. Absolutely disgusting carvery!! Used to come here alot haven't been for a few years and was really disappointed. I had all the meats beef, gammon and turkey. Beef was nice however gammon and turkey was both cold. Carrots, green beans and sweetcorn for a place which is called a carvery is not a good enough selection of veg. I'm sorry but who even had sweetcorn on there roast!! Cauliflower cheese had no white sauce on it with minimal grated cheese. There was no mash parsnips or boiled potatoes just roast potatoes. Not quite sure you can class this as a carvery with 3 meats, 3 veg and potatoes!!!! Manager was poilet but tried to defend this appalling food. We hardly eat anything and was only in there 30mins. Got a kebab on the way home instead.

Truly fantastic place and the food is absolutely outstanding

Went in for the start of the Sunday roast at 1150 for 1200. Nice place pleasant staff. Both had the Medium roast and were about the 4th or 5th to be served, so the presentation of the food was good. Reasonable amount of meat was served onto the plate and as normal help yourself to vegetables. Roasters and veg was nice but tasted from frozen not fresh but you get what you pay for and in my opinion better than winterstream farm. That early serving the food should of been HOT, it wasn't. That let it down. Not being fussy honest review

Popped in for carvery. Was very disappointed. The meat was luke warm. And as for the veg and roast potatoes was all cooked from frozen. Nothing fresh. Also for the money portion of meat was very poor

Went to the Badminton Arms Christmas day. It was well organised and was a very enjoyable day. Food was awesome and the staff very polite, efficient and helpful. I would highly recommend.

Really needed a Sunday roast.. And they didn't fail to deliver

The meat was dry and there was a lack of imagination with regards to their selection of vegetables. The Christmas atmosphere was no where to be seen and last week it was burnt Yorkshire pudding same this wk. If the thermostat is broken fix it simple. (That’s what I was told). It’s a shame because with some outside light to help promote and a new thermostat plus more decoration potential is there. Just saying

Excellent choice of food and drinks. All food was cooked to perfection and the waitress was very good. We were a party of 12. Some people had carvery and some didn't, yet all food was served at the same time, which was excellent.
