Very good service and good selection of pub food. Extremely generous portions. Try a sizzling dish but beware ... one meal is enough for two people!

When we holiday in St ives we normally have a day where we walk from St Ives to here along the coastal path, for a drink and spot of lunch, before walking back. Lunch food use to be brilliant with a great hot menu, then for a few years that went, but they have brought some hot items back which is great. Pub is dog friendly and the staff are always pleasant.

We had a really tasty selection of fish dishes, whitebait starter with tartar sauce, and mains of salt and pepper squid in sweet and sour peppers and onions and mussels in creamy white wine sauce which came with chunky white bread and butter, garlic bread on the side. It was all excellent and very very tasty, the mussels were large and tasty and sauce excellent. Squid was beautiful coated in a salt and pepper tempura batter. Good choices of food Lovely atmosphere good beers and drinks.

I visited here a couple of weeks ago with friends for the ploughmans which was excellent so i went back with family and the 2nd time around I was not so impressed! We were greeted by a young man from behind the bar who was obviously busy but acknowledged us and said that someone would be with us shortly which is fine, there were several other staff members around who were also busy, apart from one young lady who was asked to deal with us,this young lady looked unimpressed at having to deal with us and grunted something at me which I couldn't understand,I pointed out we had a table booked and I was shown to our table while my husband and daughter went to register our car for parking,I was asked what drinks we would like and as I didn't know what they wanted could we have a few minutes, the young lady looked far from impressed with this and stomped off. After a while another waitress came over to ask if we had ordered drinks and were we ready to order food, she was so helpful and cheerful! We chose carvery and were called when they were ready for us,the food looked amazing but the chef who was carving was rude to myself and husband, neither of us were offered crackling but he was completely different to my 19 year old daughter, very friendly and attentive, when I asked for crackling he grunted and walked off as I apologised as I had found it on my plate. I have to say the carvery was amazing, everything was hot and perfectly cooked, with a good selection of veg,all the other tables were checked on to make sure everything was ok, but not us! When I went to pay all the staff were busy apart from the young lady who I dealt with to start with, was asked to deal with me and she didn't seem impressed with this, she asked me which table I was on,I pointed this out to her,and she then gave me someone else's bill which was nearly double what I was expecting,I pointed this out so was asked if the bottom half was right which it wasn't so this was met with eye rolls,I then told her what we had,the whole dealing with me seemed an effort and was not in my mind a very good customer experience! We are local and are looking for a go to place to eat and I have been put off by these 2 members of staff but I have to say the food and other staff we encountered will make us try again as all the other staff were so friendly and helpful, especially the tall young man behind the bar.

A very friendly welcome. Staff were super and the menu had choices for all the family including vegetarian. The ploughman’s was superb! We didn’t realise that we could park in the car park behind the pub, but will know for next time. We needed a walk after such a generous lunch and found a beautiful walk down Station Road to the branch line station and then onto Porth Kidney beach which is dog friendly. A memorable day.

We visited the Badger with our family to celebrate Mother’s Day. We were greeted by very friendly front of house staff who directed us to our table. We were not left waiting long before placing our drinks and carvery order. We were then served very promptly with what looked like a perfectly prepared carvery. Unfortunately the unacceptable attitude of the man serving the carvery was despicable and certainly put our entire family off visiting this pub again. Sadly this is the second time that we have witnessed his appalling attitude toward customers and his team. This makes us all very sad because the food was delicious, the other team members incredibly friendly, helpful and professional. To all the other team members, you are doing a wonderful job and this review does not reflect upon you.

The pub was recommended to us by a family member so we visited for Sunday carvery. Was a bit worried after reading some of the reviews …. Nothing to worry about at all, the staff were welcoming, attentive and friendly. The chef serving the meat at the carvery was lovely and very chatty. Meat was lovely and a good selection of veg and roast potatoes were delish. Would certainly return again. As for people who claim there is no mention of having to imput car reg….. hello… should you be driving? Signs everywhere, staff ask if you have put your reg in and if you missed all that a QR code on the tables.

I am semi local and visit the pub regularly. It doesn't pretend to be something it's not. The menu Monday to Saturday is a solid 7/8 and the Sunday Carvery a 9+. The beers are well kept and in taking into account prices today and the proximity to St Ives it's not expensive. To anyone below regarding parking the pub doesn't charge. All that they ask is that you input your number plate into the machine opposite the bar. The staff do ask. There are numerous signs in the car park, gardens and a massive banner when you enter the pub that you can't fail to notice. If you miss it that's on you so to write a derogatory review for your own failings is unfair. They only do this due to the amount of holiday let's in the area and proximity to the train station they wouldn't have any parking. Please visit the hospitality industry needs our support and you won't be disappointed.

The carvery was absolutely amazing and was reasonably priced. My husband also got a free drink on Father's day which was a nice touch. We visited again at the end of our holiday and had a burger which again was amazing. There is free parking available (you have to check your reg in on a screen at the bar). MORE AT TripAdvisor

Firstly, I'll say that I've never done a Tripadvisor review but this pub was so disgraceful that it will be my first! My partner and I had just driven 6 hours to this lovely side of the country and we got there at 12pm as the tables outside were walk ins only for the final of the EUROs. However, the front three tables were covered so they didn't get wet and were reserved for their own staff. We had to sit on tables which were getting wet from the horrendous weather for 8 hours only for the staff to sit in front of us at 7.50pm and block our view. Even worse, we were told that we weren't allowed any food outside, so we were expected to sit for 8 hours extremely hungry whilst we held our tables. We weren't even allowed to put a reserved sign on whilst we went inside to eat food. Every time someone asked the poor barman a question, he responded with no. He was only young and it was very clear that he'd had no customer service training. He was trying his absolute best but wasn't offered any help from the staff inside. To top it all off, the hot drinks machine broke and we were not even offered an apology. We were freezing cold, wet, hungry and it didn't seem like any of the staff gave a f#@£. When it came to setting up the TV, the barman tried his best, but it didn't work. He then had to ask the bar manager out who laughed at him for not being able to do it in front of a hell of a lot of people. Maybe a bit of advice would be to make your customers feel welcome and trying to do anything if they feel unsatisfied. Worst pub I've ever been to.

The pub and bar area was very busy on arrival as it was their weekly quiz, which we took part in and enjoyed doing. It has a very small car park which is difficult to find spaces at peak times such as this, luckily we did eventually get one. I would also recommend booking a table for dinner as I doubt we would have gotten a table due to the large number of people there that evening. The ladies serving where friendly and welcoming, showing us to our room before being seated in the bar below. They did however seem slightly overrun rushing through the quiz and trying to run orders out to waiting customers. We ordered our drinks and once they’d arrived, we came to find lipstick stains on my boyfriends glass, which was gross and in the current situation should have been sanitised and cleaned better! We waited a long time for food, which was over an hour and without the quiz to distract us we may have left to find food elsewhere. We felt that we needed more communication from our servers to let us know there was a wait, they did apologise when bringing food to our table but more conversation with customers was needed. When our food arrived it was very tasty, hot and enjoyable, although I did feel rushed to finish and get my pudding as closing time was fast approaching by that point. Upon first inspection of the room it was nice, clean, almost country like feel to it. I love the access to books and DVDs in the rooms and in the “DVD library” down the hall, a lovely touch which I’ve not seen before. However a thought did come to mind in this current situation were they being sanitised? When it came to having a wash, I found the shower to be a little unsecured with faucet cases loose and was difficult to find the correct temperature due to this, it also has a leak in the bottom left corner where it rested on the floor. The double bed in our room was also rather springy and creaked considerably when rolling over during the night. Despite those things we both had a really good night sleep whilst staying.Breakfast on the first morning of our stay was ok, not a lot of option for someone who is gluten free, my boyfriend however seemed to enjoy his. There was a nice variety of cereal, and variations on cooked breakfast, such as toast and scrambled eggs. However the breakfast area seemed as if it hadn’t been thoroughly cleaned from the dinner the night before with left over chips under our table and tea towels drying on the radiator next to us we thought was a little unsanitary. I changed my breakfast choice after only having bacon and eggs for the first morning to the continental breakfast, which consisted off a few scraps of ham, some cheese, and a solitary boiled egg which again was fine, just not what we’d expected. Our last morning here for breakfast my partner had another glass with lip and lipstick stains on. We ate out all three nights we stayed due to the lack of variety that I could have for lunch and dinner as the gluten free option was to go without, the fact that they advertise they have gluten free options is a little bit of a joke. From someone that works in the hospitality industry we both found it really disappointing as it has such potential to be such a good place to go, with such a great destination especially with the train station just a walk away. But it was such basic things that let it down. It lacked a lot of elements for efficient customer service, no one was unkind or unpleasant just needs some refining. I don’t think we’ll be attending again as it wasn’t our cup of tea, however we don’t want this to be taken as a bashing of the business just constructive criticism that’ll allow their business to grow for the better.

Due to Covid restrictions the waiters served us the meat and vegetables that we wanted onto our plates. The veggie one was just all vegetables, so we asked about the nut roast was told we ordered a vegetarian carvery not a nut roast. We sat down to eat and eventually a nut roast was bought out on its own to go with the plate of vegetables. The food was lovely cooked and the meat beef, pork and turkey was all cooked beautifully. We could not fault the food at all. After our carvery we ordered a sweet as only one of us wanted one.We waited 25 minutes or so and someone came over asking if we had ordered a sweet and we said yes. After waiting a further 25 minutes or so and still not received it. Also at this point we had all finished our drinks I told them to leave it.Im afraid the service let this place down today and to be honest the table was booked for 6pm and wasn't full for us o think that they was rushed off there feet. But the food that we managed to get was actually really lovely and fresh.

This pub , badger inn , Lelant , st ives used to be very good , popular and with good service. We have dined there several times over the past 10 years. On today’s visit, ominously the Covid / hand sanitiser was empty ( at 6:15pm on a Saturday evening). At the table we ordered drinks; the waiter brought the drinks and menus and then spent the next 10+ minutes on the phone at the bar , whereas at least one other couple arrived , were served drinks and had their order taken. Only when it was apparent that we were leaving, did the waiter come over. I know it has been a long summer , but ignoring customers does not make for a good atmosphere. I have given this 3 stars because the manager tried to apologise; without that it would have had 2 stars.

Dogs are welcome in this pub the only complaint I have with this is that there is no separate area for diners that don’t want to be with dogs, I love dogs and have my own but not around my food (personal opinion). Service was good and not a long wait for food which is good and the portion is large .

Popped in for a late lunch after not being able to park in St Ives. Excellent Covid precautions and spotlessly clean throughout. Limited lunchtime menu but enough choice for us. Had a gigantic portion of cheesey chips and a fantastic ploughman's of local cheese and home cooked ham.Food was excellent, service friendly. Really couldn't fault them

We booked for our first carvery after the lockdown, not knowing what to expect. My wife had a standard carvery and I had a mega carvery (only £2.00 more). I have never seen so much meat. I had Turkey,Pork And Beef, and had so much I couldn’t eat it all. The difference post COVID is that they serve you all vegetables and potatoes . You just tell them how much you want. Everything was piping hot and delicious. The staff were courteous and helpful and the pub was well set up for social distancing. We enjoyed it so much we have re-booked it for next Sunday

We visited the Badger on Friday 28th Aug, The service in general was not great, we were not particularly well looked after and the food was terrible, all very dry , and cold burgers/ chips and dry scampi almost like it had been reheated. Such a shame.

Just visited The Badger for our first inside visit to a pub. Being in our late 60s, my husband I were, understandably, cautious about hygiene but we felt totally comfortable with the standards and the loos were a dream as far as (for the ladies, not sure about the gents!) not actually needing to open the main door and so well ventilated. The food for lunch, although simple fare, was excellent quality and speedily delivered. The staff are a perfect lesson in how to deal with customers and are so polite and helpful. We are looking forward to our next visit.

Beautiful Sunday lunch. Covid measures made it feel very safe. My daughter said it tasted better than Nanny's dinner. Needless to say Nanny wasn't impressed. Good portion size and the desserts were lovely with really thick custard. Would book again

We came to the Badger Inn twice whilst staying in nearby Carbis Bay. On the second visit we had booked a table but when we arrived our baby had only just fell asleep when we arrived (having not had a nap all day) so we asked if we could just sit in the car in the car park for 45 minutes and then come in for our meal. They were very obliging and said it was no problem. The menu is varied, the portions are huge and the food is good. The staff were friendly, but on our second visit, we asked for the dessert menu but it never came so we just paid and left.

Having booked a table at 12.30 for Sunday Carvery, my daughter and I were shown our table on arrival and told that our drinks order would be taken shortly. The inn was very busy. After waiting half an hour, I obtained our drinks from the bar and enquired how long it would be before we would be called to the carvery, Again the answer was 'Shortly'. After waiting another half an hour, we were advised by a regular diner just to join the queue at the carvery. There was a choice of meats and a good variety of vegetables, accompanied by a tasty gravy as well as the usual sauces. The meal itself was excellent and well up to the usual high standard of St. Austell Brewery inns, so we would like to come here again, but hope that we would not have such a long wait next time.

We walked from St Ives bay to here along the coastal path, so it was nice to sit down with a drink and some lunch.Staff were pleasant and welcoming. We ordered our food for 8 of us and it all arrived at the same time which was great and all piping hot.The food was delicious, good portions and a good price. The sizzling beef looked, smelt and tasted really good. If you're really hungry, try the seafood platter. It's good for 2 people, or 1 very hungry person. The sticky toffee pudding for dessert was just amazing. Tasty and stick, great with custard.

We visited whilst recently on holiday in cornwall. The carvery was very nice, there wasnt too much of a wait to be seated and served, although i would reccommend booking in advance. The chef serving us at the carvery was very friendly and helpful, took the time to chat to our little ones and help them choose which meat to have. Parking was a little difficult as the car park was closed for the fireworks display, however it was worth the trouble as the fireworks display was fantastic. Prices were adequate to the area, as this pub is located just a short drive from St Ives. I would reccommend the carvery, and would visit again.

Best booking we could get was 8:30. The place was so busy. They have loads of tables. The carvery is on all day Sunday. When we finally got to sit down to eat, there were a few dishes unavailable- not surprised with the crowds. One of us had the vegetarian lasagna, one the nut roast carvery, and we also had the meat carvery. All was very tasty. The staff were friendly.

I’ve been to The Badger multiple times both with family and friends and never had a bad experience. Food is always phenomenal and the prices are always a pleasant surprise. We took friends with us this weekend who had never been before and were spoken to so rudely by the man serving the carvery that we felt quite embarrassed by it all. Despite reassuring him of our order, he repeatedly informed us that it wasn’t what we had ordered and that we would only be having what was on the receipt. On looking at the receipt 3 meals on it were not what we had ordered, and one had been added on that we hadn’t ordered at all. People make mistakes, sure, but to be spoken to so rudely about it was very unkind, seeing as all of us had been there when we ordered and knew what we were having! It’s a real shame to only give 3 stars as everything else is great, but this place just seems to be yet again filled with “tourist hating” staff. I suggest this individual may feel happier working somewhere where a customer facing role is not part of the job spec as clearly speaking to us (happy and cheery holiday makers) was not making him happy and cheery at all.

We stopped for an ice cream while on the search for our car keys which we lost on the beach!! 🤦🏽‍♀️ The rum and raisin ice cream was AMAZING and no complaints from the kids and hubby with their choices! The lovely gent who served us got his wife Zara to help us with locating the keys which luckily where found and left at the RLNI across but was closed, she managed to find someone who got the keys So thank you so much for your help lovely people and for the ice creams! 🥰 wishing you all the best x
