The Aviator in Tewkesbury

Not very welcoming and rude.Loads of messy tables and not one person said hello and didn’t even offer us a table.Apparently stopped serving food and we had a quick drink on a sticky table and left .Never again

We used to love coming to The Aviator and my daughter would always choose to come here for a birthday meal, but the last few visits have been disappointing, especially today when we were missing drinks, and 3 of the 4 meals came out wrong. The service at the bar today was particularly slow, and the blond person taking the orders needs more training. It’s a great place for sitting out in the sun with a drink and watching the planes, but we won’t be returning for food.

The food was ok and the location excellent. Service was good, so if you haven't visited this location, my advice is give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

Let's get the moany bits out of the way first. When you order cod, chips, and mushy peas you expect to get cod, chips, and mushy peas. They'd run out of peas 🫛of the mushy variety so gave garden peas as an alternative. I'm northern, I don't do garden peas so they were set aside and wasted. My companion ordered a beefburger which was to be served with Monteray Jack cheese. They didn't have any so the burger was presented cheeseless. Nothing was said, disappointment on the food front. On the upside there was a delightful young lady by the name of Charlotte (pictured) working there. She had a wonderful sense of humour and it was obvious that she was dedicated to customer service. Charlotte cared, she was apologetic with regard to the behaviour of the kitchen staff. Charlotte is the reason I'll be returning to The Aviator. I'll be ordering the sausages, which are advertised as being served with garden peas. I'll be asking for a mushy pea substitution. I would hope the kitchen staff acknowledge my request and act upon it, or at least offer an explanation as to why they can't. I'll be wearing a false moustache and beard in case they recognise me. They ain't gonna spit in my food!

If your a plane geek or have children needing entertainment this is the place... if your lucky you might see some military or blue light air traffic... great food and great place for a drink... certainly recommended

Ok, coffee and snack, good view of airfield, lots of outdoor seating.

Didn't have food...on this visit..but its really good 👍 Been going there for years... Great to chat with the Landlord and staff..on my last visit.. I'm worried about the future.. If and when the airport land is sold... Would be tragic...lots of aviation and manufacturing history in this area... I wish all who know and love this place to step up to big greedy business and say this is a gem that should be cherished.. And expanded as an airport Love you Aviator

This is a location location location review. On a warm, sunny spring mid morning, seated outside with a little bite and a drink, watching the planes fly in and out. The helicopters loading up and taking off, total contentment.

Used to be very good and now it’s only ok. Price rises from £10 to £14 for a breakfast, now pushes this into a different bracket. Much better places that charge £15 for a breakfast, better quality and better volume. I don’t think I’d go back now.

Nice place for a drink and quick bite. Especially if you love planes

A lovely early spring day thought we'd make the most of it and take the children to watch some aircraft and get some lunch. It would mean a 60 miles round trip from Oxfordshire so checked the website and menu online first, all looked good so set off. Parking was very limited on a Sunday but finally got parked up, children all excited I went to check the menu. First person I asked behind the bar for a menu couldn't tell me where they were, the second, a very rude guy, just pointed to the board on the wall, stating its just Sunday roast! Not what we was expecting after checking the website and there being no indication what-so-ever that this would be the case, no indication on the online menu either. So 2hrs in the car, a 60 miles round trip, and three hungry unhappy children resulted in a disappointing visit, and the rudeness of the staff just made the experience all the worse. We won't be attempting to revisit this place again, but if you are, be prepared for the food on offer to not mirror that of the menu advertised online.

Food was cold and took ages while the staff behind the counter just didn't care and had minimal effort past the bare minimum

Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Not the best food quality, but therfore not too expensive either. Really cool with the air field next to it :) I enjoyed it

Good, if slightly basic pub sited on an airfield. Food and beer good and friendly enough staff.

Only one member of staff behind the bar meant ridiculously long slow-moving queues. Customers were leaving because of this.

Visited after doing a sim 737 experience. Friendly staff, food served quickly and good quality/value for money. Was dark when we arrived so would definitely return if in the area again to have food & sit & watch the aircraft taking off and landing

We enjoyed a delicious carvery outdoors while watching small planes take off and land.

Awesome venue, made to feel very welcome as always. We held our End of Season party at the Aviator last night, totally awesome team. Thanks so much to Pat and Rich and your team. 52 people fed and watered. Iut of such a tiny kitchen takes some doing. One of our members said that it was the best meal he'd ever had at the Aviator. Praise indeed, as we've been going there for over ten years. I can't recommend this place highly enough.

We had the Gloster Meteors TOMCC End of season party at the Aviator last night. Rich & Pat were excellent hosts, The food was fantastic and they fed 49 of us hungry bikers. I can't recommend the Aviator enough. Totally brilliant venue and staff. Go there you won't regret it

Had Christmas party here the food was excellent portions was ample. The meat was tender and the vegetables was cooked just right and hot. The staff was polite and friendly. Great value for the money.

The food is really good but spoilt by a barman, believe his name is Lee for his attitude and inability to speak or make eye contact. We were made to feel so uncomfortable. Very disappointing.

Great place to sit outside with a beer, or inside with food. The Sunday lunch is a hit with anyone who tries it, and plentiful. The dining area is clean and laid out nicely, wheel chair friendly. And for the plane enthusiasts, you are at the end of the runways, so you can watch the planes, and helicopters come in to land and take off. November 2024. Great place still, the food looks amazing, the staff are very accommodating, they found us a table so we could watch the planes. They have a great selection of beers and lager. What's not to like, give it a try, especially if you want to chill out and you enjoy watching planes.

Nice cafe for plane watching , saw lots of activity helicopters, chartered private planes etc taking off and landing. Cooked food looked nice arrived 11am missed bf too early for lunch nothing hot available so had toasted teacakes and coffee which was nice.

Called in here for something to eat before our simulator experience at Staverton Airport and for a drink after, really nice food and friendly people. Lots of places to sit outside and watch all the air traffic, and there’s a lot more than you think.

Food was great, ordered a variety of different items from the lunch menu, however, the service was disappointing. The restaurant was fairly busy at the time but the bartender was blunt in his replies and quite unfriendly. The waiter was inhospitable and took food away from the table without asking if we had finished the meal. Overall, it was quite a disappointing visit from an establishment that we usually hold to good standards.

What a great little place, called in on the off chance after doing the simair 737 flight simulator experience and had the best chicken and mushroom pie ever - wow! So impressed!!! Atmosphere is only a 3 star because it’s a Wednesday night.

table booked for 9am, walking in 9:02, none of the tables had our name on so we joined the queue at the bar which already had 2 people there. 10minutes later only one person has been served so we walked out. no care in the world for customer and no urgency either. won’t be returning, absolutely pathetic service

No food between 11 and 12 on a Saturday. Strange rule but worth knowing in advance if you want a late breakfast. There’s a cafe just outside the airfield as a good alternative.

Okay, well this is an odd review as it in anticipation! And I have eaten yet, All day breakfast appeared on the special board. Okay they called it Big Brunch, but tomatoe tomato, I just ordered it and I’m so excited can’t wait to try it! The aviator was about the only airfield cafe without and all day breakfast. Hopefully it will make it to the main menu.

Visited while taking pictures at the airport, despite being fully booked they took the trouble to fit us in between bookings which was really lovely. Landlord was a really friendly and helpful guy who made the visit so enjoyable. The food came quickly, was piping hot and delicious. Prices were amazing as was the service.

Used to be really good. New owners I can only surmise. I have been back on two separate occasions, and won't be going back. I honestly can't believe those reviews saying that it's good or the food is good. Perhaps you have low expectations. If you went a few years ago you'd understand. The menu used to be excellent and the food and service also excellent. Sadly since then it's been very bad and I won't even chance going. Sad to see that the changes made have been so disastrous.

Very busy when we went , so service was a little slow. Food was pretty good.Full English Breakfast was excellent, bacon cob was a little dry. Great cider and a decent price. Will definitely return.

I've just visited with my wife. We thought we would drop in for a coffee etc. I'm afraid I was unimpressed and quite annoyed. We were ignored when we got there. My wife eventually got the attention of the waitress and we were waved in the direction of a table and after we brushed the crumbs off the chairs and table, we sat down. No menu, no interest from the staff...apart from laying tables for the next customers. We obviously caught them on an off day. We won't be back and we won't be recommending to others.

Nice little pub next to the airfield. Although we were a tad late for brunch, they still accommodated us with some poached eggs on toast.

The staff are friendly, the food is wholesome homestyle cooking, the portions are large, the beer local and all at a good price. It overlooks the local airport and the interior is dedicated to planes of all types. If you fancy somewhere a bit different from the bog standard dull pub then give it a try!

We booked the Aviator for Sunday lunch as my husband was having a flight experience at the airport. We had booked for mid-day but as the flight finished earlier than we thought we headed to the Aviator to see if we could get coffee. I explained politely that we were early, but the staff behind the counter were offhand and we were made to feel as if we were a nuisance. ordered the coffee which was just dumpd on the side of the bar by a member of the staff. we were told we could sit at one of the other tables until mid-day, which we did, and then ordered our food from the bar about ten to twelve. again the staff were not particularly helpful or welcoming. we could not fault the food, but the people bringing it out had no idea of the table numbers, which are written on a scrappy piece of paper on the tables. i realised that the young man was trying to bring us our lamb and roast beef so he did an about turn and spilt most of my gravy on the floor by the side of my table. it is such a shame as this is a lovely venue, the food was good, but the staff need some training in how to make customers feel welcome, and it would be a good idea to have the table numbers clearly marked so that the staff trying to bring the food to the table would know what they were doing.

Had a fantastic relaxed evening meal at the Aviator with my partner. The staff are lovely and very welcoming and the food is reasonably priced and very tasty plus massive portions.

Good quality food at a reasonable price. Thick bacon, butter bread/toast, quality eggs nothing to complain about and we go here regularly and not had a bad one yet.

Good location but unfortunately some of the staff need customer service training. Quite a frosty reception. Food ok but nothing to write home about. Watery mint sauce was interesting. There's a lot of stress from the people serving trying to find table numbers on a tiny bit of paper. Walking up and down shouting numbers.. Why not mark the numbers on the tables to make it easier on yourselves?

Only ever been for a cooked breakfast, but it's a regular haunt when my parents visit. Food is quick and decent. On a nice day its a great place to sit and watch the planes and helicopters too. Would highly recommend the fried breakfasts.

Great over all experience with fantastic tasting food, fast service and reasonably priced. Member of party had serious egg and nut allergies, the staff were helpful in checking all ingredients and relaying information back to us, along with showing us some of the ingredients and packaging to our minds at ease. Highly recommended and will certainly return again

Called in this afternoon for a impromptu meal with my daughter & 2 granddaughters in the sun watching the planes & helicopters land, this is a venue my late son loved sadly we don't' visit as often as we should and should because it evokes some great memories, we were lucky enough to catch both landlords Richard & Pat who gave us a wonderful welcome, the meal was as always so delicious with top quality food, I am always happy to recommend this venue...

Dropped in for an iced coffee, latte and a couple of ice creams. It’s a lovely spot for having a quiet drink or maybe something to eat, have previously had an English breakfast here also. On this occasion I was disappointed that the iced coffee and latte were served in mugs and the latte was about a quarter froth. Previously served in tall glasses which is what I expect or proper latte/ coffee cups. The service was a little slow as only one person taking orders and whilst waiting I couldn’t help but notice the volume of dust on all the model aircraft hanging from the ceiling throughout the eating area. Also, it took well over an hour to clear a table next to us even though food had been served to the next table, the person bringing the food out just ignored it and walked straight past. The negatives can easily be resolved a with a little more attention to detail so I’d still recommend the Aviator as a place to have a snack or drink whilst watching the small aircraft come and go.

Arrived at 10:59am Saturday Morning ordered 2 bits of toast for a 2.5 year old so he could eat it & watch the planes. Only to be refused by the lady looking thing behind the counter. It would appear popping two bits of toast in a toaster was too difficult for her.

Piss poor service, food was overcooked, our table wasn’t ready, my son who's a picky eater didn’t finish his burger and the men who collected his plate commented on the matter which was incredibly rude and upset my son. Will not be returning.

Whilst at the airport for a flight sim experience my other half and I visited the pub. The food was great, good selection of drinks and fantastic service. Will definitely visit again when we are next in the area.

Really lovely venue visiting again one year on. Great for the little ones to plane spot as they come in during lunch on Fridays!

First time visiting this resturant and the atmosphere was really nice. Great food and views of the local airport with planes landing and taking off through out our visit. Staff really friendly and attentive. A+

Visited the Aviator this evening with friends, we had really warm friendly welcome from the staff. Nice glass of wine, the steak , gammon and the burger were all delicious! and very faily priced well worth the money. The pudding was huge!! Great view would definitely visit again!

Great food and fantastic staff. Went for a Father’s Day meal. My son was a bit upset with a table not by the window as he wanted to watch the planes and although very busy they quickly moved us to a window table. Very friendly staff who were great with my son. So many so called family friendly restaurants are not friendly so it was great to see a proper old school family friendly team. Will definitely be going back and highly recommend the Aviator.

Fantastic little place filled with aircraft memorabilia. Lovely meal. Good prices. Happy barman made this a 5* review. Cheers
