The Avenue - Sizzling Pubs in Kingston upon Hull, City of

I visited the Avenues in September. I was served by Jane, she was so lovely and welcoming and made our night great. When she was glass collecting and cleaning tables she came over to see if we was having a good time and asked if we wanted more drinks. What a great service. The Avenues have bands on a Saturday which is always a good lively night.

Recently buried my mother in law and had the wake in the Avenue (Mother in Laws request), the staff were absolutely fantastic and couldn't do enough, the food was excellent. We have been a few times for family meals and the food has always been very good, would recommend booking as it does get busy at times. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff.

Popped for tea one Wednesday night. Lovely clean pub and friendly bar staff. Quickly found a table then went to the bar to order food and drinks. Ordered Fish and Chips and pepsi. The food came quickly. The fish was massive good portion of fries with mushy peas and a pot of tartar sauce. Tasted great, will pop again.

Food was great as always, friendly atmosphere, staff was pleasant and always willing to help, would recommend to a friend.

Came in on Sunday for football and they had a live saxophonist on as well, something different than the normal pub experience lol. Would return again they have more Vs than currys in that back room!

Staff were welcoming and well mannered. Easy to have a laugh with and equally accommodating. My family’s needs were met and felt comfortable as can be! Looking forward to returning.

The menu has really improved since the last time I visited. We picked 5 small dishes (which were on offer) between 2 of us, and a large bowl of nachos as a side, we got masses of food, each dish was well prepared, and tasted lovely. The staff were friendly and helpful and even asked us if we wanted a doggy bag to take the food we couldn't manage to eat. we had a great night in a pub with a lovely atmosphere.

Great selection of cask ales, bar staff seemed very knowledgeable and told me all about different beers. Nice to see bass in a proper pub not seen it in years and told they have it all the time so worth a visit for a trip down memory lane.

Mad offer on Happy Hour, £3 for a cocktail seems crazy. Service is always spot on Jade and Josh in particular always look after us on a Tuesday making sure we have our usual spot for the quiz. Never used to come in that often but now we’re here every week!

Avenues is not our local, but it certainly feels like your local when you are in there. My wife and I normally visit during the day. The landlord and staff are always cheerful and helpful. There is always a few customers in, so there is a good atmosphere created. We visited on Thursday with my elderly mother-in-law and had our lunch. There was enough choice for all three of us and as always the food was served quickly and was first rate at a reasonable price. Also a great pub to watch sporting events. Would would definitely recommend a visit!

Was here for lunch today, very clean and neat pub and very well thought out regarding covid, very nice food and great portions. Very special thanks to rob for hosting and looking after us and paige for running about none stop haha, hats off to the chef he cooks food to a delicious standard and to say he’s the only one on shift we was waiting a very small time for a very well cooked and presented meal!Will return here 100%

We attended Avenue on June 4th for lunch. I would like to offer my fullest commendation of our server. I did not get her name but she was the young blonde woman working between 12.30 and 2.30. She was, as far as I could see the only member of waiting and/or bar staff working and was completely rushed off her feet. She was working so hard I didn't see her stand still for a second.Despite her stellar effort, and through no fault of hers, our food arrived staggered, with my entire family having finished their starters before mine had even arrived. Several plates also had missing dips, although the quality of the food was high and my toddler ate all his pasta which trust me is the highest compliment.The wait between our starters and mains was also unacceptably long. As our mains arrived, a second staff member finally emerged and service improved.I want to reiterate how much I appreciate the hard work of the lovely server who was clearly struggling but still buggered on with a smile. The 2 stars of this review were entirely earned by her. I love this pub, and it would easily achieve 5 stars if only you would invest in properly staffing the lunch period.

A node atmosphere and good food, we have tried all the Sizzling pubs in our area and they are all good, The Avenue would have got 5 stars but for the limited menu when compared to the other Sizzling pubs, not sure why their menu is so diffferent

Myself and my son visited The Avenues for lunch on a Thursday. Very pleasant welcome from both girls who were working. I had booked a table an hour before so when we arrived there was no need to be checked in for the track and trace as that had already been covered. I found the Overall cleanliness to be of a high standard. The food Arrived quickly and was very tasty! Especially the Burgers& white choc & rasp Sunday! My son had felt apprehensive about eating out again but he felt totally at ease during our visit. Well done Avenues!

Came in last night with my daughter and parents, it was our first time to a pub since March, plenty of measures in place for Covid. The lady at the door made us feel welcome, we weren’t going to eat but decided after a drink that we’d get some food. We will definitely be back in!

My family were visiting me and we always go to West Bulls but decided to visit this pub, we booked a table. My mother went to buy Pre dinner drinks, my nephew who’s 20yrs old asked for half lager, I joking said He’l have a vodka mum Il have a Pepsi. The two females behind the bar served us but without a smile or pleasantries. When our meals arrived, one of the females brought condiments and said “when you were served, I didn’t realise the lager was for you” to my nephew who had almost drank it and asked him for ID. My mum tried to say he was 20 and she was very embarrassed when this female raised her tone, she remarked on my vodka comment so obviously heard me order Pepsi so it was obvious to any idiot the other three alcoholic drinks were the others. We were trying to continue eating but she continued, in front of other customers seated nearby; I could see how my elderly parents were becoming anxious so I asked her to refund the drink price, out of principle, as she removed the dregs from the table and tell her to stop causing a scene. Needless to say we didn’t stay for dessert and won’t ever be returning.

Over a year since my last visit, Covid protocols politely and efficiently in force, only landlord and one assistant but service was quick, food basic pub fare but very good value for the price, overall a very pleasant visit to a well run family friendly venue, long may it survive in these difficult times.

Came today for Christmas day for food well worth the money we would of paid more every staff was friendly and kept coming and checking on us to make sure everything was okay it was spot on the pudding with Bailey's in was lovely so me and my partner would like to say a massive thank you and we will see you soon ☺

Went there on a friends recommendation and so glad I did. Staff were friendly and helpful as one of our guests had an Sllergy and the member of staff was able to help and assist in a professional manner. Food was fantastic an as were the prices. Told about Sizzling App by staff to get further discounts, we will definitely be going back soon. Absolutely 10/10

I like the pub but the beer was rubbish in my opinion. I got a pint of lager and it didn't taste right at all. I'll probably go back still though because the pub itself looked great, I'll give it another go.

The staff are amazing, quick service and always smiling. Drinks are always lovely and the food is brilliant. Wide variety on the menu. Definitely worth the money and more!

Beautifully cooked, piping hot and very tasty food at an unbelievable price. The food was such a surprise, delicious😀

The steaks are terrible. If two people get steak, one is ok, the other a piece of fat. Never cooked right, then if you complain it comes back worse. The cook doesn’t seem to care what is being served. I should learn my lesson as I go back hoping someone else is cooking, but it doesn’t matter, they are consistently poorly cooked and poor quality.

Living locally, we visit quite often. This was our first visit since its recent refurbishment. The Avenue is looking lovely and has a new menu. There's always plenty to choose from and as a family of four, we have never been disappointed, but this visit was better than ever! The Avenue has a very hard working, friendly team of staff. After ordering, we didn't have to wait long for our meals to be served. Cooked to order, fresh and hot. I'd always recommend The Avenue to family and friends but since its recent refurbishment, I'd say, go check it out soon - you won't be disappointed! Great portion sizes, very reasonable prices, great kids meals. Delicious as ever!

Ok so quite a few months back I gave this place a 1 star on Google. But we saw it had a revamp few weeks back. Staff are very freindly and food is good pub grub. The decor gives a very warm up market feeling. Can not fault it. The food came out hot and tasty. Bravo the Avenue

Excellent service and great food. My son (7) wanted to go in for a steak as he’d seen the sign outside. We went in and obviously he changed his mind. He went for a burger instead and I had the mixed grill with an ‘upgrade’ to an 8oz rump. The food came and it looked amazing. I, being someone who loves his food, could see the rump was a bit on the small size. I queried this with the exceptionally busy waitress. She was a lovely young girl, around my daughter’s age (17) and she was diving around clearing tables, setting tables, making sure everything was great with everyone’s food and drink so I thought I’ll just crack on as she probably won’t have the time. Within 3 minutes she was back at the table with an 8oz rump asking if that was ok. Cannot fault her and the food. Well done The Avenue.

Looks great after the refurb. Food was amazing and service was quick. Very friendly staff, they were great with my daughter and gave her a balloon to keep her occupied while she waited for her food. Highly recommend and will definitely be returning! thank you avenue

Walking in it looks like it’s not been refurbished in a fair few years, looks distasteful and backwards.

Visited with my daughter a few days ago the food was lovely,a very clean place,nice friendly staff and the chef even came and spoke to my daughter. Would highly recommend and will be coming again soon.

Maybe it's changed management, but I don't recognise this as the same pub as previous poor reviews. I've visited 3 times in the last two months, and the food and the service have been fine. It's not going to win a gourmet award, but for the price it's good. At my last visit a 5oz steak with chips, battered mushrooms, tomatoes and a generous portion of fried onions, plus fresh coffee came in at just over £6, and was quickly and efficiently served. Pensioners specials are exceptional value too. A comfortable well run family friendly pub, walking distance from the K.C Stadium, worth a go if you want a reasonable meal at a reasonable price.

Dreadful steak worst I've ever been served, the paintwork & furnishings are dirty and the entire place needs upgrading. Cant get past people smoking in the entrance and it smells badly of old fags ,

Not bad for a bite to eat in a morning but the smell of stale alcohol alway lingers from the night before.

Havent been since last year when food was terrible, called in yesterday and wow, food was great ,hot,well cooked and tasty, well priced too. Well done you folk, will be coming again soon, beers kept well too !

If you like your English breakfasts, you will love it here, great value and plenty of it, unlimited hot drinks too. Recommended.

We eat there regularly and have found the meals excellent value for money. would recommend the pies and duck dishes.

Myself and some friends visited The Avenue prior to a Hull v Wolves football match and obviously found it very busy. We were informed by the very friendly and cheery staff that we would have a 45 min wait for food, which was to be expected so we immediately ordered from the extensive menu we had three fajitas meals served on a sizzler skillet and two burger meals. Bang on time our food arrived not only was it excellent but the portions were really big and more than value for money, the beers were also great. A nice local pub doing quality in all areas.

Having looked at the reviews, I did expect a bit more. The greeting from the bar staff was friendly and they were happy to cope with my elderly relatives dithering about with seating arrangements. But I'm afraid to say the food was far from great. My wife and Auntie had the roast chicken but it was very dry and overcooked. I had the burger, and again, it was overcooked and looked like it had fallen apart and been thrown back together. My Uncle had the mixed grill. The steak should have been medium and was overcooked. And my other Auntie's mince pie was served with a lump of bone dry mash. Of course, being elderly, none of them wanted to complain so, when asked, everybody said the food was okay.

Been in tonight for a family meal,1st visit. Loved it ,great atmosphere,no complaints with the food,great value and waitresses were very helpful.Hopefully we will be back soon

Popped in Tuesday tea time, sausages way undercooked (grey) and chips reheated and not cooked through..hard,Thought it was odd our meal was served within minutes even my friends natchos had been re heated and soft ,Terrible meal wont be going again anytime soon.(even with discounts!!)

Received an e mail offering a 5 oz steak and a drink for £4,99 decided we would give it a try ,The steak was of good quality and well cookedArrived quickly and came with a large mushroom loads of fried onions and chips .it was well worth the money as a mid week treatgreat friendly local with great staff.

By following the 3 offers for 3 wks we have had a good deal,the staff are good,the food is always hot and well presented, food not always top quality but American burger meal is great, cook overcooks stuff, /ribs/sweets in the microwave and needs to learn how to use it!!,

The food in here is good!! The staff are really friendly and welcoming. Prices are reasonable and the breakfasts are good too. There's always some sort of local entertainment in the evening such as quizzes or bingo if that takes your fancy.

A local pub with a great atmosphere. Occasionally rugby supporters are a bit too loud but hey ho they are only supporting their team.

Havent been to this venue for a number of years and whilst I have been to a number of the sizzling venues we have never had food here so all was new to us. We attended around 1830 on a not so busy Thursday evening. Ordered our food and drinks at the bar and the food was served in good time.The staff were friendly and the food piping hot. I had the classic mixed grill and OH the steak and Guinness pie, all the food was very good and no complaints at the bill of £15 which included a 25% off deal. Well worth a try.

Stopped by for breakfast which represents excellent value for money. The sausages are particularly good. The waitress was extremely friendly too. It was nice to be able to sit in the sunny conservatory to watch the world go by outside whilst tucking in to a traditional hearty breakfast. We shall certainly be stopping by again. Well done to both chef and staff!

Excellent food and atmosphere, fantastic Staff, visit and eat every tuesday night. Been a regular customer for over 3 years, great menu plenty of choice. Great place to take your kids to eat too. Have colouring activities ect.

We visit this pub every Thursday, it's our social evening with friends & Rob the landlord puts on an excellent nights' entertainment quiz, bingo then open the box!! The quiz is general knowledge & is done in a bingo format so basically everyone gets a chance at winning, a line and then for the most correct answers. The food is consistently good with Craig manning the kitchen as with service from the barmen, Dave, Hal & John constantly giving attentive service. We've also had breakfast here too & it is very good value, plus £1 extra gets you unlimited refill of tea or coffee. Thursday night is also a grill night so we order steaks or mix grill, with that come your drink, this included in the price excellent deal!!

Great staff making this bar one of the best in the area Reasonably prices and a great atmosphere. Food is okay and always hot and they are willing to adapt meals to a degreeWell worth a visit .Gets busy on a weekend but always enough staff .

We ate in here for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised when the food came freshly cooked and not just reheated like so many other chain pubs seem to do. The service was fantastic too with the chef coming over to make sure everything was just so. Think his name was Craig and my daughter loved your One direction tattoo! Great work guys keep it up!

After a sad day saying goodbye to a wonderful man we visited here for food in the evening and following morning for breakfast. What can I say..... Staff so knowledgeable and friendly and food absolutely spot on and value for money. Esp stuffed omlette they do for breakfast. We will be visiting here every time we visit Hull thatscfor sure

We made the mistake of visiting this pub on our way to a Rod Stewart Conert at the KC stadium. Bar staff blatantly serving regulars instead of people just visiting. Eventually got served and ordered food. Food arrived after 30 minutes with no cutlery. Told brusquely that the cutlery was on a table at the other side of the pub. Tray contained 4 knives. Told barman who snapped that they were busy. After 10 minutes I collared a waitress who washed a couple of forks. Meal was now stone cold. Will never go there again!

This Pub has a wonderful atmosphere, great for both socializing and bringing the family in for a nice quite meal from their renowned menu. The 20oz steak is amazing.

The other evening I found myself on my own and looking for something to eat, I decided to go the The Avenue. The food was great and I would recommend it to anyone looking for traditional pub food, the staff were helpful and pleasant. I will be eating here again.

I try and come to this pub as much as I can, the food portions are good and taste great for the price. The staff are friendly and make a effort, plus nice big size to suit most can sit out side for a drink or eat in .

Me and my partner often visit here , the service at the bar is nearly always friendly And the food generally good . The pub is clean to a reasonable standard , music and TVs are on but not so loud as to deter conversation

Staff very pleasant. Great prices and excellent llent value for money. Decent food, hot and tasty, can't ask for more from a local pub. Have to say many of the customers are a bit "rough". This is clealy a local pub which serves food. Dont expect posh or smart, but good value for money with a extensive menu which should satisfy most diners. To conclude, a little scruffy and no, its not a place for a romantic meal and be prepared for some rough customers, tattooes and you might hear some bad language at times, but if you want a relatively cheap meal that is satisfying its good. You might also see a few fat children stuffing their fat faces on a lunchtime on a weekend, clearly they are not the best fed in terms of health, but this place will fill them up. Cant blame the pub for perants who dont care ablut what their children eat. Jamie Oliver wont be impressed !

After having a great night for a staff treat night we came in a local pub in the area to finish it off with a team drink. The team included 9 of us, and we were served by a bar women with short black hair. We are all young so we expect to get id that isn't the issue. Waiting for 9 people to reel off what they would like to drink..... (Not actually paying any attention) the bar women then goes before I serve you I'd like to see your ids (pointed to 4 people out of the 9), Then moved us... To a different till and made us repeat all our drinks again this time they got imputed into the till. One of our drinks was a lemonade, but the women poured a coke and argued it was a coke not a lemonade. Very moody. So after a brilliant night this made all our moods drop slightly. Very bad customer service. Also a member of staff had a burger they were eating behind the bar in very clear view, poor staff attitudes.

I went here twice within a month, the first time I went with my sister for a lovely meal and I bought the chicken and steak combo which was scrummy and I got the lemon meringue for dessert, which to be honest, wasn't the nicest in the world, the meringue seemed a bit heavy. My sister got the american platter and said it was gorgeous. The second time I went was with my boyfriend, he ordered the fish and chips and I ordered the gammon steak. The gammon was lovely, no noticeable fat on it whatsoever just lovely lean meat, and my boyfriend said the fish was lovely too!All in all just a lovely cheap pub meal. Definitely will be returning!

I have frequented this establishment since I was an underage drinker at 17 years of age and I have always visited The Avenue in times of need (particularly when my oven wasn't fitted at my abode).I lived on steak and chips for around three months until my situation changed..I have always found the staff to be pleasant and approachable. The only recommendation I can make is: Avoid Match Days, for football or rugby, it can get rather busy in there.

Wasn't expecting much on first impressions, but the staff were really nice and a good variety on the menu! Food was good quality which was unexpected by the low prices. Defiantly will be coming here again: - )

Today's atmosphere was very pleasant, some of the meal choices are on offer for the next few weeks at £2.99 per meal, my choice was steak and ale pie with chips and peas. Adequately sized portion, pie was a little dry on the top but the gravy helped! Staff are very friendly and the tv's on in the background had football on but quietly, music through the speakers was playing just loud enough for the atmosphere at that time.Plenty of choice for seating areas whether you fancied a bench style against the wall or a chair, all were comfy with adequate and clean tables! Views from the window are of the main shopping street, so plenty of traffic passing by but noiselessly! Seating outside is good during the summer or dry seasons!Toilets were not adequately supplied with toilet rolls, instead i found napkins which is not good for flushing, but the rooms were clean!

Don't bother to come here during the week. It's empty and takes ages before the food arrives. Ordered two burgers, nothing fancy, at 17:40 on 2 December 2014 and at 18:30 the order still has not arrived. A definite no-no for food, avoid!

Dropped in for lunch with our 8 month old granddaughter yesterday. Ironically we now find many pubs more 'child friendly' than traditional cafes.This place was ideal. They welcome children and know how to deal with them. The staff were all friendly and appreciated the specific needs of a baby etc.The food is typical of type, with meal and drink packages, and a wide ranging menu from the fast-food style, to the Sunday roasts etc.I feel I'm maybe being a bit harsh not giving 5 stars, considering the excellent value for money and great service, but at the end of the day the food is very good and some similar places manage just a little bit better based upon this one experience.

Ate here on Sunday afternoon as we were in Hull for the day.A little rough round the edges, looks like the place leads a hard life.Vast menu, which the staff just couldn't get to grips with. Struggled to take the order and out it into the till.Waited 45 minutes before complaining about the wait for our food to arrive. Came 5 minutes later. All good, with the exception of the beef on the Sunday lunches, which was pre-packed cardboard like.Disappointed that the drinks special offers on the menu weren't pointed out to us, we'd have saved over £10 if they had.Won't be going back.

Did not eat here but the atmosphere was very friendly and would eat here on another occasion as the food served up looked good.The bar prices are excellent!

Brilliant pub food, great atmosphere, sizzling platters are brilliant and the fajitas are great. Well worth the money, great family pub and kids meals are worth it too.

Visited at lunchtime after recommendations from friends. Dreadful. Three real ale pumps but none working. Told they had six real ales ready to put on (could not be true as only three pumps). Ordered a ham sandwich in granary bread, with side salad. When it arrived I got a sandwich in white bread with chips. No serviettes provided (rack was empty). Could not possibly recommend. Everything was wrong.

Wouldnt eat or drink in there again, unacceptable behaviour from customers and staff! Was having a great night until 10minutes of being in there! Complaints fell on deaf ears!

Visited in January with a group of friends at 5.30. Pub was not really busy at this time so was nice to sit & eat & be able to chat. Food did not take long to come after we ordered. Staff was friendly. Would visit again for food.

Went on Friday 30th august for a meal with family and found a relaxed and friendly pub with good staff and good food. My sister-in-law had a voucher for 25% off the bill which was even better. The food was brought to us as it was ready so every dish was piping hot. I had the ultimate fish and chips which also came with a free dessert. Heaven! No complaints from anyone in the party. Well done The Avenue.
