Had a lovely lunch, portion sizes were BIG, and Kevin came to say hello too. My only criticism was the bar staff had to be corrected by I'm assuming the manager as she nearly gave wrong information about ingredients, in a loaded brownie ,but a crisis was averted by the managers who knew what was in them.. went away satisfied and will use again. 😂

I last visited as a young woman and I have been told hat the area is no longer very pleasant by several people. I stopped to work from my laptop on my way back to Manchester and as soon as I walked in, I thought "This is lovely, I must plan an meal or night out here". There was a wake on and it looked very well planned and handled. The other patrons seemed very pleasant and polite. There was a cakeaway and the staff were excellent. A really lovely pub.

Went for a family meal on 25April, very friendly and knowledgeable staff, ordered the food, which arrived freshly cooked. The tomato bread was outstanding and my niece said the rump steak was the best she had ever eaten.Fish and chips were also excellent as was the lasagne. All made from scratch.Highly recommended and I will be back. Went back today for fish and chips and chicken Madras with rice.I have never had such tender and succulent chicken and again the fish and chips was wonderful with a very crispy light batter. Please try the food it is outstanding.

Came for food last night. Was literally just looking for a snack after a long day at work, but as soon as I walked in I smelt homemade pie and my stomach told me what I needed. Ordered the pie and I have to say it was exactly how it smelt, full of meat and bags of flavour. The homemade chips were delicious too. Walked past the kitchen and was surprised that both chefs were very young so bravo on the recruitment. Finally I have to mention the barman, he had a wonderful dry sense of humour and it was refreshing to be able to have a conversation with somebody that was as engaging as he was. Will be returning with the family

First visit in a long time, used to do really good home made nachos and skin on chips. Unfortunately menu seems to have changed a lot and didn’t enjoy the food like we used to especially the chips which were nothing like they used to be. Probably won’t go back again

My partner and I wanted a carvery, only to be told it wasn't available as it's only served in the winter months. Which we found strange as the carvery was still advertised on the board. There were two other couples who left the premises as no carvery was available. We were not happy about it, however we ordered Lasagne. I can honestly say it was the worst pub food we have ever had. No meat in the dish, warm salad, warm coleslaw, and a manky cat under the table winding around our legs. The food was served by someone in shorts and t-shirt which we found highly unprofessional. We had to move our nearly untouched plates to another table after 30 minutes as nobody came to ask how our meal was or attempted to clear the table. We feel bad putting such a poor review on here as we are massive supporters of local businesses. But what else can we do??

I come here on a regular basis, I always find the staff friendly and the food is always delicious and home cooked which I like I especially like the pie and the home made chips.

We come here on a regular basis, always receive excellent friendly service, choice of food is good, quality is excellent, along with generous portions. Use cash to pay and get a loyalty card, after 10 meals you get one free.. great idea. The pub is child and dog friendly, booking is advisable.

Every time we come here, the staff are always welcoming. Food is always exceptional and well worth the money. Prices are really reasonable. Dog and child friendly. Booking is recommended.

I cannot recommend this place enough. The food is absolutely incredible, portions are huge! A really nice, friendly atmosphere and very well run, I’ll be visiting again ASAP.

Came to meet up with Friends, the food was amazing , all freshly cooked , the steak and ale pie was the best I’ve had with plenty of large pieces of steak that melted in your mouth , will definitely return, plus it was busy as soon as the doors opens at 12. Which is a good sign .All the staff where pleasant and cheerful

I brought my parents here for lunch it was absolutely delicious all home made fresh & very tasty..I had fish ciabatta & chips it was devine my dad had Caesar salad &mam had scampi all superb ..we will be back

I had not been to this place despite living in the area for more than 20 years and now i have been 4 times in 4 weeks. The first time i had the meat pie which os gmhuge filled with steak and mushrooms and comes with either mash or their amazing chips. I had it with mash which to be fair was a cold it didnt bother me my cousin got the same and had to ask for his to be warmed up. Fast forward a week and went in with my mam semhe got the meat pie and struggled to finish it, i got the small mixed grill fantstic quality and value at £14. A week or so later i went in with some work colleagues, they all got large mixed grills and fair to say they all struggled to finish them but rsved about the quality being spot on. This time i got the Chicken Madras again spot on good portion size half rice half chips and naan breads very good and it wad plenty hot enough. Yesterday I went back for a Sunday dinner. We went at 3 (which for clarity was booked in advance) and there was limited food choice left no roast beef, no steaks , no fish and 5 pies just enough for our group. The selection from the carvery was limited, certainly not as much choice as nearby Lambwath perhaps it wss the time we went but a lack of hot gravy and cold mash again?. As a group we were dissapointed and on reflection i wouldnt go for Sunday lunch again. The food on the whole is good but the service lets it down a bit staff are not very attentive or responsive as other places.

It has a cozy village pub atmosphere and is very friendly. Portion size and quality are great. Lovely staff.

Well I don’t know what’s happened to this place, the food is terrible now. We’ve visited a number of times but over the last 6 months we’ve not had the quality we were accustomed to. Home cooked skin on Chunky chips, we’ve had in the past (delicious) recent order chunky frozen chips ! Family of 10 dined out, not a decent meal between us ! The prawn curry was disgusting, tiny little hard bullets of shrimp ! Garlic bread dry and resembled a poppadom, crisp and no taste.Safe to say we have lost all faith in returning.

There were quite a few of us (11) and they still managed to bring out all meals together. Nobody was disappointed. Good food and wonderful customer service. A really nice welcoming place to visit.

I use this place regularly, always amazing service, staff are always friendly and will go above and beyond! I've never once received a bad meal! Always clean and tidy and staff are very efficient at taking plates away once finished.

Great place! Staff was lovely and polite especially a man called Amed. The pub as a whole was very clean. As I passed the kitchen I looked in and it was spotless. I only had a chicken burger but it was lovely. Definitely be coming back!

The bar staff were polite and provided a good service, however our food was a different story. four of us dined, we ordered a salad, that was fine and enjoyed. 2 pizzas, both arrived lukewarm, one chicken with bacon and BBQ sauce, again lukewarm. I informed the staff, they apologised and the meals in question taken away. After a quiet long wait the meals returned...2 more lukewarm pizzas, and this time quiet cold around the edge, some of the cheese not even melted. Once excusable, twice disgraceful.

First time at this place. First class food service and atmosphere brilliant. I will be back and recommend it to my friends and family.

The Duke of York is a nice traditional pub in the heart of Sutton. Formally a hull Brewery pub it's now owned by Marstons. It has been extensively modernized and altered over the last 50 years it used to be a multi-room pub. There is a good selection of beer including hobgoblin gold on hand pump. The food is Very good and home cooked fresh to order as the menu proclaims, they don't serve fast food. It's a lovely friendly village pub Highly recommended.

Went for one drink after a few drinks down Princes Avenue. When we turned up at 9.15pm, we fancied a little nightcap before we walked home. We weren’t served for a minute or so, so I had a little tour of the pub where I couldn’t find a member of staff to help. We were then greeted by a staff member who quite bruntly told us that the bar has closed. I’ve been here a few times and find the staff unpleasant each time. Hope it changes

A last minute family lunch visit for my birthday. Lovely pub and atmosphere. Good selection for children. The outdoor area is a great option too and my son loved seeing the birds. Food was great and definitely recommend a visit.

I was invited to a family meal for a 70th birthday. The pub is clean, warm and inviting and as this was my 1st time here I'd recommend it based on this alone. Staff were polite and friendly and the food was amazing. I'm wanting to treat my family soon.

I have been to The Duke of York in Sutton many times for lunch and afternoon tea. My most recent visit was for afternoon tea with my Grandma for her birthday. We both enjoyed our afternoon tea. The food was delicious 😋 I especially love the cherry bakewell cake. We couldn't finish all the food so we were given a takeaway box for our leftovers. Lots of yummy food, and the staff were very polite and attentive. We will definitely be visiting The Duke of York again soon 😊

Duke of York Sutton hosted my dear dad's wake on 27/09/23 . The room was ideal and straight out into the pleasant courtyard. The food provided was lovely with lots of choice and plenty of it. They even poured the wine for the toast. Thank you for one less thing to worry about. 😊

It's a place I've used all through my life but haven't visited for several years. I revisited because I'd heard that the food was wonderful and how right they were. It's not cheap for Hull but it's well worth it. I visited out of peak times and it says booking is advisable. It's a real ale pub so I had a Stella at £4. 25 but there was practically no atmosphere, so it's a great place to be have a quiet conversation. On a more recent visit it was quite busy but the service was impeccable and the food was absolutely gorgeous. I had a steak on the light lunch menu and it was quite a plateful I was more than satisfied. See you soon

Had a lasagna, and my friend had a meat pie, Both tasted great, the only thing we had to say is that the chips are not good, let the meal down completely.

Usually great, we've been many times in the past, but this time was terrible, the service at the bar was very slow indeed, my wife and I both decided to have the "Steak and Ale pie" it should have been called "Button mushroom and ale gravy pie" as that was about all was in them, between the two pies we managed to find 3 of the tiniest bits of steak and about 12 little button mushrooms, there was more gravy in the pie than was in the gravy boats that was served with them

Went in for a quick drink and possible lunch. Menu very uninspiring but OK, We decided not to eat despite the 25% discount. Overheard someone who asked for extra toast with 2 all day breakfasts being told 'we dont do that' No option to pay extra. Seemed a bit mean. How hard would that have been? Toilets very clean, but in the ladies, 2 out of 3 without locks and one out of action. In the mens toilets - clean but no soap. Whole place could be a lot better with more attention to detail

My friends and I love this lovely local but yesterday it was very disappointing. Every time we went to the bar the drinks we ordered were a different price. We ordered the same drinks every time but it was never the same price. The food was disappointing also. They had an offer on before 4pm but one of our group queued up at the bar from 3.45 without being served only to be told the offer finished at 4. It's a real shame to leave this review because it's actually a lovely local pub. I just hope the management take it on board. The food is normally beautiful. The lack of service is not good at all. You shouldn't have to wait 15 minutes to be served when the place is empty. It's a lovely local but the service is not acceptable. I'm so sorry to leave this review because I love the place 💔

Home made food, usually good, meat pie hit and miss as it was awful last time

Bought afternoon tea deal off groupon as a gift for the parents, seems everything is done on the cheap - including the coffee being nescafe sachets provided. Would avoid.

Just had afternoon tea there , the food was horrible no taste to the sandwiches, cakes not nice, pork pie had fatty bits in the meat horrible . Then you had to get youre own coffee with nescafe sachets .There was 2 many chairs in the room to be able to sit down im partially sighted so not good .the food was just put on the table and that was the last time i saw anybody ,2 small toilets with no handles on doors and only one had a lock what a joke never again .

Didn't have food so unable to comment, only one barstaff on and she was very busy, poor girl did the best she could. Atmosphere was very good.

I went here with a friend for a belated birthday treat of afternoon tea and it was really nice. A nice room at the back, separated from the main bar area. Self serve tea and coffee and then the food brought to the table. Would definitely recommend.

Good traditional pub on the main road through the village. They have food offers on 3 evenings per week which booking is highly recommended as they're popular nights. Food is very good & freshly cooked. Just means you need to expect a wait when the kitchen is busy. Staff very friendly & beer well kept

The food was nice, the seating wasn't very comfortable we was sat on a bench it was too far from the table so had to scoot forward on the seat but then the cushion had dipped so we was sat on a hard wood edge.

Had a Groupon deal for afternoon tea it was quiet nice coffee and tea was self service which was a little disappointing as it was a water urn and make your own no coffee machine other wise was nice

The worst experience ever. Flat Prosecco on table before we arrived. Tasted dreadful. Not Prosecco. Cheap did not cover it. They were replaced….it was still flat & weird sour wine taste. Did not drink. Sandwich’s. Tuna very fishy. Tasted bad. Husband eat it. Didn’t understand coleslaw sandwich. Did not eat. Scone. Rock hard. Dry and freezer burn. Did not eat. One cake… bottom layer crumbled to dust. Did not eat. Tiny lemon cake. Lovely. Yeah. Small pork pie. Black underneath. Cut off but tasted bad. Spit out. Meat was dark grey. Sadly a very expensive waste of money. We were given an empty teapot with liquid at the bottom. It was So badly stained that the water at the bottom looked like old tea. Tea making facilities. None existent. You get yr own. Hot water ern. Cheap tiny coffee sachets. Loose tea bags that you anyone can pick up with their hands. Some water damaged. No hygiene in place. Did not have a drink. Did not feel safe. Heater with guard taken off next to us. All very strange. I’m sure if this was served fresh and not old & dried out. We may have had a better eating experience. Sadly we would never drink here. If cheap & nasty is they’re best offering. Let’s face it. They’re making a good profit. It’s Not that cheap. Wasted 40 minute journey. Left Very hungry & thirsty. Asked to speak to manager. A young girl was sent out to us instead. She apologised and said manager would be in touch. They have not…. Not reimbursed either. Avoid is now my preference.

My husband and I moved into the Sutton area just over a year ago. We have visited the Duke of York many times now and we have never had a bad meal. We have lately been visiting once a week at lunch time for a meal 😋. The staff are very pleasant and the atmosphere is very much the old English pub which we like the food is excellent and home made. The pictures show today's meal and last week's lunch.

Visited several times; always good food, service, price. Enjoyed Duke again this lunchtime. One of the DoY 's strengths is most definitely it's consistency.

Tried ringing for more then half jour no answer so ask a friend what time food till thay said make sure your there before 8 as food stops got there for 7 o’clock orgerdrinks then ask for food she said no food if you haven’t booked been ringing she said we’re busy as half the tables was empty so as I sat down no one at bar I rang for a good -0 minutes still no answer as she walks past the phone ring if the fade doesn’t fit will not recommend to anyone else as I own a food business would expect more

The pub is lovely, proper little village style place. Staff aren't very welcoming if your not a regular but the food is outstanding.

Food was ok but waited 50 mins for a chicken burger which was so hard my mum couldn't cut it. Didn't complain as we had already waited so long but didn't want to wait any longer. My cheeseburger was lovely. It was busy but not full so don't see why it took so long. Food is normally lovely and mine was very nice but chicken burger was rock hard.

First day the 'winter warmer' Sunday lunch menu is back up and running, it was amazing as always! Delicious, home cooked food.
