I was in Southsea for a few days on my own and I kept being told that I should frequent the Auckland. Wonderful pub, atmosphere, clientele. Treat yourselves, go there, music is superb. Most importantly there is the lovely Helen. She clearly has such a warm heart. Look after her Southsea, they don't come along every day ❤️

As a friend of mine once said, all the best things happen at least one street off the main drag 😀 It's usually quiet, but there's a blues jam every first Sunday of the month that transforms it into a bustling little gem with a changing rota of musicians with a great repertoire 😀. For sensitive folks like me, earplugs are a sensible choice 😀

How a pub should be, I miss these sorts of places. The Aukland Arms, a little treasure in Southsea. Food gets 5 stars as it's got Bacon Fries and Scampi Fries, my kind of surf and turf 😀

Superb, musically orientated, very dog friendly, happy pub. Always a good evening or afternoon! ... and real ale too! Fair selection of crisps etc. instead of food! Only wish Helen (The Guv'nor), would bring it half a mile or so, closer to home; not so fleet of foot, these days😍😂! Lenny B 😎🎹🎷

Wow!! What a great little pub. We stumbled upon it on a boys night out, didn't even know the place existed prior to our visit. Ok prices , good atmosphere and a fantastic building in its own right.

Great little pub with traditional glazed tile tile frontage which was very common on pubs in Portsmouth due to the architect A. E. Cogwell. We popped in for a drink on a Sunday afternoon. Great atmosphere and the bonus of some live music. It's nice to see a traditional pub like this thriving. Highly recommended.

This is a round the corner pub (I haven't checked if it is really a pub or free house). I only spent an hour there and had a half pint of cider, and chatted bierfly with a few local people; I think they had curiosity of Asian people in this small pub that is escaped in the roads inside the living zone. I like the bar for a few things: intimacy (I imagine this is a social club for locals) . There is no loud music, though some background music is aired (I would prefer to a little bit more classic music; not necessarily classical music). The interior design. It's not that a lower ceiling wooden structure nor a grand design. It's tidy, clean, but shows the historical taste. Of course, I love the stint glass window. You can't see through to outside. Just like those found in churches. There is a corner that should be reserved for live music. It's a very small spot just for one or two people. Any downside? The choices of beer are limited, and most are known brands. Since there is no window so in hot days, I doubt they should keep the door open. By the way, they have a bench outside. Yes, it's a bench, not a table. Will I go there again? Definitely. Last weekend I just wanted to have a beer there, it was full house. I think this is why it's called a public house (if I'm correct, public may also denotes that they can sell any beer without restriction to those contracted or brewed)

Myself and a friend dropped in here during a three day visit to Southsea. The amazing tiling outside was what immediately attracted us - which we were told is listed. The inside resembles a front living room, a little cluttered but lots of interesting memorabilia and we got a warm welcome from the lovely landlady and other regular customers. The ale choice was good and well looked after. A really pleasant evening ensued. A must if you want to see how a homely local should be.

This wonderful place was a regular haunt for me forty odd years ago. I decided to revisit on the occasion of my brother's birthday. All four bros together in a pub that I had history in. I loved the "vibe" of the place. I will definitely be back sooner rather than later. The lady behind the bar was lovely, thanks for the memories Auckland Arms 👌🏻👍🏻

We happened across the Auckland Arms by accident. What a happy accident it turned out to be! Helen the landlady is probably the most welcoming, engaging and all round lovely landlady we’ve met. Very friendly, makes you feel at home right away and adept at walking you through all the gins on offer (there are plenty!) The Auckland Arms is a proper pub. No gaming machines, no gastro pretences, no darts or pool. Simply a pub where you can go and have a very nice drink or three in very pleasant company. There’s also regular music from a variety of musicians, and a small garden for when the sun shines nicely in Southsea. A happy weekend in a happy place with a decent selection of beer, some cider and plenty of different gins all at very reasonable prices.

Another really friendly and quirky Portsmouth pub with a few real ales available. This really is a public house in n every sense of the word where locals drop in for a pint and jamming session using the collection of instruments in the corner.

This used to be a lovely pub, but now it's a bit grubby and run down with poor lighting and smells damp and doggy!

We love the quaint jazzy feel here and the lovely owner. It’s such a small intimate and cozy place - I took my then girlfriend there fell in love with the street and actually liked it so much we purchased a house on the same street

Delightful pub especially on a Monday night when the brilliant Pompey Pluckers are playing.

This public house does not offer food but offers real ale and a good range of gins. The hostess is very friendly and makes you very welcome as does Mungo, the canine host. Several evenings there is live music on offer too.A gem of a pub - well worth a visit.

A great pub that is very popular with the locals, very friendly service with reasonable range of drinks but cannot remember if they had any real ale on, On the first Sunday of the month there is accoustic music sessions with a sort of open mike policy where you can bring your own instruments and join in with the blues jam, sometimes the musicians outrank the customers in numbers and due to its popularity get there early in the afternoon for the music due to its popularity, outside decor is very pleasant with old fashioned multicolour tiling, depending on which way you arrive it looks like one pub entrance but the other bar is around the corner with its own entrance.
