Andre's Food Bar in Portsmouth

Had a baguette. Was thin and dry. Chicken was meh. Very overpriced. Staff were not very friendly. Won't ever be coming back.

Called in today for a quick bite to eat, got the garlic chicken salad baguette, it was okay…. The bread was nice but the chicken was quite dry considering it was supposed to have mayo on it. Not bad overall but I’d say it’s a bit overpriced for what you get.

Average service. We ordered 2 sandwiches and The waiter served me a baguette that had been sat out for what looks like hours. The other sandwich was made fresh tho. Wouldn’t really recommend

I paid £7 for a part-baked baguette, which is outrageous, especially considering how thin and tiny they are. The flavor was lackluster and mediocre at best. For that price, I expected something exceptional. There are plenty of better bakeries offering more for half the price. Despite their heritage in Pompey, this place is massively overpriced. I spent nearly £40 on lunch here over two days while working nearby. I wouldn’t mind if the food tasted amazing, but honestly, I’d rather have a Greggs steak slice. This place tries, but their cheap ingredients let them down. It's very expensive and the quality is poor. I won’t be returning, as much as I'd like to support a local business, it’s simply too expensive for subpar food.

Just had my first Andres experience and it was a superb baguette, met Andre and he couldn’t have been more helpful or friendly. After sampling a garlic mayo chicken I’ll definitely be back for more. Place looks modern, cool and sleek. Great vibe and an app to avoid any queues is an absolute silver lining! Bravo all 👏

The food is fantasic and the shop is so clean. The owner and the people that work here are clearly very proud of what they do.

3 times now I’ve ordered baked sweet potato and received normal potato which I’m not a fan of. Please get order correct!!!!

Just ordered a bacon brie and cranberry panini. May aswell just been bacon as the brie was so thin you couldn't taste it and the cranberry was a small dollop in the middle. For the price you pay it really was disappointing.

Was recommended by a friend to try this lunch bar, We came here for the good old fashioned school cake waste of money! Doesn’t take anything like how it’s supposed to and soggy inside, my Nan had the white chocolate blonde hers was like stale water , on the other hand the garlic chicken baguette and the chicken leek baskets were delicious :)

Really disappointing! Just ordered an egg mayo baguette and asked for salad with red onion but no tomato. Just opened the bag and tomatoes included so no lunch for me! Great

Have ordered a range of baguettes and cakes from here and always really good quality which taste amazing. The place is spotlessly clean when we go in there and staff are very nice too.

We visited Andre’s food bar last Friday and chose three different salads which were all delicious, also bought a chocolate brownie which was lovely and gluten free, we wouldn’t buy lunch anywhere else now, always a friendly service every time we have been, looking forward to our next visit.

I love Andre’s food bar and have been a customer for many years, not as regularly as I used to when I worked in Southsea. I have watched him build up this lovely food bar since his parents originally started the business. The food is so good. The French baguettes are the best. Always very friendly when I visit and the shop is always clean and tidy. A lovely warm atmosphere with lots of scrummy food 🤗

Best Garlic Chicken anywhere in the universe.

We were looking for somewhere that served a good baguette and boy, did Andre’s do just that! My fiancée had a tuna mayo baguette, mine was a garlic chicken and salad one…. The member of staff behind the counter was cheery and welcoming, telling us proudly they made their own mayo and prepared all the meat too. Service was quick, despite one of the baguettes being made to order, and the service overall excellent. We will definitely be back! Thank you.

Just had a bacon, Brie and cranberry baguette. Food was brilliant and the service was quick and friendly.

Bought the seafood baguette, ham and cheese turnover to take away both excellent quality good service and short wait. Good selection available.

I have been a fan of Andre's for 25 years, I don't live in Portsmouth but visit Andres whenever I'm in southsea. Sadly the last 2 times have been disappointing, I always get a seafood baguette with extra onion and seafood sauce, last time my partner brought it home for me I complained there was no extra seafood sauce.... he insisted he asked and figured perhaps they forgot and we left it at that. He went and got me one on Monday (2 days ago) Brought it home and same thing, was actually dry and hard to see any seafood sauce never mind any extra, same goes for the onion there was barely any. The size of the baguette also bears mentioning as they have become much slimmer than they were, it's almost comical how skinny they are and considering its £5.30 I don't feel that it is value for money or worth the money. I appreciate everyone's feeling the pinch but don't like being ripped off and sadly that's what I feel. Saying that I still gave 4 stars as don't want to spoil they're rating over constructive criticism.

I returned my horrible stale Gregg's 'tuna crunch' for this delicious tuna baguette. Freshly made with vegan butter to boot! Tuna mayo but not full of fat so healthy! I hope the recipe never changes Lovely customer service too by the young lady :)

When the venue in-house caterers let us down for my late wife's funeral reception 48 hours before the event, one phone call to Andre's food bar and they stepped in at the last minute to provide a five star finger buffet for 60+ guests. My family and I cannot thank them enough for not only coming to our rescue at the eleventh hour but for also producing a buffet for us which I am certain would have been far superior to what the club had initially offered. I would recommend Andre's to everyone. Thank you

Another caterer for my mother's funeral lets us down, so André's stepped up at very short notice and provided an excellent spread, saving the day. Highly recommended!

Was nice, sausage rolls served cold which is ok but hot probs be better Service was fast and good Slightly pricey but not too bad considering quality

Andre's supplied a work function recently, from start to finish the ordering system worked perfectly for us and Antony was a delight to deal with. The variety of options and the individual lunches meant that our large group were all left happy. Would highly recommend for function catering and will be using Andres again in the future!

Highly recommend the garlic chicken, cheddar and bacon panini.

Staff always friendly. Food always fresh and tasty. Served quickly and prices reasonable. We had salad, quiche, tuna baguette, nuts, tea and cakes. All delicious, and the chocolate brownie was to die for.

Have lived in Portsmouth for over a decade and am truly disappointed with myself for not popping in before. Visited today and purchased two baguettes, a quiche and a garlic chicken salad. Each item was so delicious and flavoursome I'm already looking forward to my return visit. Also a very helpful and friendly staff member served me.

Ordered twice and on both occasions items were missing, and the flavours are too salty, paninis not toasted properly, quiche was the oddest textured quiche we've had, the sausage roll meat was awful.. just all tasted cheaply made with poor produce. We wanted to support a local business but unfortunately won't be returning customers.

Delicious food! Chocolate straws were very tasty. I would definitely recommend getting this over a subway anyday. Support small, where and when you can!

This small local business has really taken off, the freshly baked French style baguettes with their fresh signature fillings, you can't go wrong. I live in the area and have used them for years, Andre is a lovely guy and he really is making the best of his family business.

These guys make great food :-). I figured I'd write a review in case anyone's considering going there. You should. Andre's has been in Southsea since Andre was a kid (his parents started it), and now he's taken over from them, you see him in there regularly. The staff all seem genuinely happy both to be there and to help, which is always a good sign. Even better than that, the food is really great. Last time I went there, I was only supposed to be picking up a baguette for the missus, but they had some jalapeno mini quiches on display, so I took one of those and then decided to get myself a toasted panini. Mmmmm. Gonna have to go back there soon!

Only visited a couple of times as I’m hardly in Southsea anymore but when I have the food, coffee and service has always been brilliant. It can get busy but it’s for a reason, always wait and you won’t be disappointed!

Always great food and great service from Andres. They often do specials which are lovely and their garlic chicken is delicious. A favourite of ours whenever we need to grab a quick bite whilst out and about or to take with us if heading on a day out. I do really miss their mini filled croissants though - they were a gem!

We enjoyed an Andres feast box this morning. It looked exactly like the photos and tasted delicious. It included a great selection of baguette fillings that pleased all our tastebuds. A great idea for a working lunch.

Excellent beverages! for a quick cup of coffee and amazing treats and sandwiches, a little bit on the expensive side but the quality of food will be justified.

We have used this place frequently over the Summer for picnics etc and there's a fab selection of baguettes, paninis, salads and more. Always a friendly, professional service and very efficient. In particular I love the Steak panini, but must try their homemade quiches one day. Big thumbs up!

I have just had the most delicious garlic chicken salad bowl from here the rest of the food on offer looked amazing and served by a lovely lady that actually knows what good service is, well done 10/10 from me

Great sandwiches and great measures for covid with everybody wearing masks and having plastic shield at the till when you pay. Chicken sandwich and brie and bacon sandwiches were wonderful! Caffe latte was ok and it felt a bit liquidy. If there is any no sugar option with oat milk alternative will help this more. Lovely staff as well!!

First timer. Ordered a bacon Brie and cranberry baguette. Bread was great. Brie was brie. But, the bacon was incredibly salty, with the consistency of tiny rubber beads; which was a disappointment. Cranberry seemed non-existent. Cranberry should enhance the flavour of meat and add zest to cheese, but in this instance it did neither. Budget cranberry sauce perhaps? All sweetness and no zing. Regardless, it was lost in the overly salty mass of rubbery bacon bits. I'm not giving up on this venue though as the food was nicely presented, and the bread was perfect.

First time visiting and I had a wonderful hand filled baguette and brownie wasn't too sweet and made on site! Very covid-19 aware, everyone that was working was wearing masks and gloves. Really friendly service as well. All and all a very nice experience. 100 percent recommend!!

I contacted Andre’s via Facebook for advice about allergens in their food. They were very helpful and responsive to the messages I sent despite the many challenges they must be facing in this current climate. I visited today and ordered an adapted version of a standard baguette which they are not generally offering but did so due to my allergy. I had the garlic chicken baguette and it was delicious. Very friendly staff, helpful and lovely food, will definitely be back 😃

Highly recommend the baguettes at Andres...a great selection of fillings. A good variety of other lunch options available too. Friendly and helpful staff. This is my go to place in Southsea.

I normally have a nice large size jacket potato with tuna,cheese (a side salad that you get free with it ) The staff are friendly and helpful and all the food looks Delicious.

En general, no estábamos muy impresionados. Esto da la impresión de que va a ser una barra de comida continental, mientras que en realidad es una panadería en una tienda de bocadillos. No tiene nada de malo, pero se sintió bastante caro para un par de pasteles. Los pasteles eran decentes, pero todo el lugar no era realmente lo que pensábamos que estábamos recibiendo.

If you are hungry and looking for some tasty food, this is the place. Nothing is ever to much trouble for the staff. Sandwiches and puddings are always Devine. Southsea and portsmouth brnach are both ace.

Went on a very busy day on the way to Victorious Festival. Thought it would be best to line our stomachs first and remembered Andres from when we lived in Southsea. Ordered a Brie, bacon and cranberry panini from very friendly staff, who, despite being busy were courteous and calm. Hands down, the best panini I’ve ever eaten. Sat in the sunshine, watching the world go by. Bliss

I always go here for the best tuna mayo baguette. I wouldn't get it from anywhere else apart from home.

Ive been going to Andres for years on and off. If im ever in Southsea i make a bee line for the deli everytime. Very friendly staff, the place looks and smells amazing. A Real treat!

I live very close by , and it takes me just 2 minutes walk . I love their quiches and sandwiches . As I am from France , it's always nice to find my roots in the food

I was really looking forward to visiting as Andre’s had been highly recommended. Unfortunately I was then told that they had run out of jacket potatoes which is all I can eat from there. I get that it’s a busy and popular place but it was only 1:15pm. Pretty poor planning really, I could understand if it was late afternoon. They need to understand that not everyone goes on lunch at 12!

We have eaten here a couple of times now absolutely cant fault the beautiful food so lovely and fresh which is always a bonus , but as this is for ppl to add a review I just feel I need to say the only thing that puts me off is a particular young girl that works there although very polite really needs to wear gloves when making rolls up as she has false nails ,having ran my own takeaway I do know that false nails and nail polish, and jewellery are a no no in places that sell food ...I would love to to use your establishment more often but this is very off putting ..

Went with some friend to grab something delicious to enjoy on the common in the sun. Lovely atmosphere and great customer service. Had lovely salad with extras and all everyone was pleased with their food and I'll definitely be going back. Garlic chicken is the best !!

You cannot go wrong with Andres. I have been going there for years (literally 20 plus years when it was La Croisanterie before Andres). The baguettes are always so fresh and so many choices of fillings! Friendly staff too.
