The cafe is up two flights of narrow stairs, so unsuitable for anyone with mobility problems. It was busy when we visited, but helpful staff were rearranging tables to seat everyone. We had drinks and cake, the cakes had a nice ‘homemade’ look and were very tasty. Service was prompt and friendly.

Made a spur of the moment pit stop to recharge our batteries. We chose correctly the Attic is fresh and bright with welcoming staff and good view is manage to get a window seat of the square. I was impressed with tea service and my friend loved the cafetiere of the coffee. We both had sandwiches which were very tasty and freshly filled. The coleslaw was really nice! Despite it being busy we weren't rushed and sat for a while sipping our drinks. Would recommend and would return. Not suitable for those with mobility issues as it is up a flight of stairs.

This was one of 4 coffee shops recommended in York in the "Northern Independent Coffee Guide". It is situated in Kings Square on the 1st floor. It was busy, but we were able to get seated quickly. There is a good range of coffee and other drinks, and although we went mid afternoon, the menu showed a good choice of food as well. We just had scones and drinks and they were really good. Service quick and efficient too.

Their milkshakes are made the old fashioned way with ice cream and milk which makes for a delicious coffee cooler on a warm day. They have a nice selection of tea including Yorkshire tea (of course) and a choice of coffee beans so that you can select the right blend for you. If you use the fact that you walk up two flights of stairs to get here, you can easily justify having a piece of delicious cake with your drink.
