The Atlantic Fryer Van came to a campsite we we're staying at. Sadly they were the worst fish & chips we've ever had. The chips were burnt, overcooked & disgusting. The fish was all batter & inedible. We were really hungry but chucked our meal in the bin.

Was really looking forward to a takeaway after seeing reviews and opted for sausage and chips. The chips were frozen and were scrappy, which I found incredibly disappointing as its meant to be a chippy takeaway!! The sausage was like a battered polony and I couldn't eat it as it was so awful. Decided we would not use again, we're tourists so what do they care hey? They'll get new unsuspecting tourists next week....

Very good fish and chips. Cooked in the traditional way with beef fat. I found this gave a nice texture and colour, but not a very noticeable flavour. Not at all greasy like many chip shops these days. Portion sizes are just right. I had a standard fish and chips and was able to finish it without still feeling hungry or too full. The pot of curry sauce I had was really nice. Big queue, I waited 40 minutes. But this was expected as I’d looked at the website/Facebook page which is regularly updated with info, and the fish is cooked to order. A touch on the expensive side, but I noticed most take away round this part of Cornwall is pricier than the equivalent in a large town, or up north.

If your staying or visiting Portscatho and you like fish and chips then the mobile Atlantic Fryer is a must albeit everything is cooked in animal fat (clearly displayed). To guarantee you get your fish pre order on his Facebook page to avoid disappointment, as the fish does go quick. Also check his Facebook page for days and times as this can vary due to the demand of his fish and chips from neighbouring coastal villages. The local shop in Portscatho will also give you information on the Atlantic Fryer. Happy Holidays, visits etc...

After work Friday Fish and Chips were the order of the day so off to The Atlantic Fryer it was. This has been our go to for tasty Fish and Chips since the van started selling in the village. Fabulous food at a very reasonable price. We have never been disappointed with the food we have purchased and today was no exception. All of the food is cooked to order so will take a bit of time (if you are after immediate service maybe try McDonalds) but the wait is always a pleasant mix of catching up with other locals or striking up a conversation with visitors to the village, and the view never gets old! At the time I joined the queue I was apologetically told that after a busy night it was looking as though the fish had gone but was told I would have something for supper so I hung around pondering wether halloumi goes with sausage. As it turned out there was enough fish (hurray!) so panic over. We were not disappointed, beautiful cod with lovely crispy batter, perfectly cooked chips and the nicest curry sauce made a supper that well and truly hit the spot.

Enjoyed these fish and chips a few times now. It’s busy normally but the service is efficient and friendly. We found the chips a bit thin and dry this latest time but we weren’t able to eat them straight away so it may be that they had cooled/dried out over that time. Good value which is nice for locals who appreciate that!! See you again soon.

After reading the reviews I was really looking forward to this and we went along with high hopes. The chips were excellent, the beef dripping made them really tasty and crisp. The fish (I had the cod) was a bit of a let down though, the batter was excellent (again the beef dripping doing it's thing) and was really crisp and light. Inside the fish was spongy and overcooked and had what I thought might have been a second layer of batter on it that was almost chewy - as though it had been cooked once then re-fried with fresh batter before being served. There were a few people eating in the car park but we wondered down to the water's edge (it was high tide) and sat on the boat ramp.

I waited a long time to be served because of a large queue. The lady taking the orders was friendly and had a smile and a few words for everyone which is nice. The fish was very nice but a little spoilt by the spongy batter around it. The chips were OK but some of them were a mix of well cooked ones and some that were overcooked. Judging by the other reviews I reckon I was just unlucky and will try it again next time I'm in Portscatho.

After a day on Porthcurnick beach this was ideal. The downside is it is cash only and food is cooked to order. Whilst this means it is hot and fresh I had a 40 minute wait just for 3 bags of chips due to the frying capacity. Price wise it is about average and eating chips overlooking the bay is fabulous if you can cope with the wait. Tuesdays and Friday night's at Porthcurnick by the car park.

Tried whilst on holiday, great freshly prepared fish & chips overlooking the sea. We had chips (skins on to retain the flavour) and lovely lightly battered Cornish sole, which was delicious. A great selection of fish was available. Only thing we noticed was it was all cooked in beef dripping which as a vegetarian we didn't notice until after we had ordered, but we ate them anyway as they were just so tasty and we're not as strict as some veggies!

What can I say about this gem? I'm a northern lad who loved fish and chips growing up but in the last 15 years (probably longer) have become used to being disappointed by fish and chip vendors and the lack of quality. The Atlantic Fryer provides the best fish and chips all year round, and I look forward to the two weeks a year I am able to pitch up on holiday and order some proper fish and chips and mushy peas. The quality is amazing. Obviously a lot of thought and care goes into the operation by Ross who is meticulous about his preparation and cooking. I've just finished my last lot and have to wait another year! I should also mention they are the best mushy peas I have ever had (and that's saying something coming from the North West). If I was a local resident I'd be down here every week. :-)) kids portions are a fiver.

You don't get much of a choice - we were offered cod & chips, sausage & chips or just chips as our 3 meal options - but you can't quibble about the quality. Everything tasted great! Word of caution, if you have a vegetarian in your party (which we did) they cook in beef dripping (hence great tasting chips), but no good for non-meat eaters! For everyone else it's a very good example of the Great British fish and chip!

Driving past the van and seeing the queue of locals we decided this must be a good place to eat. Parking in the car park next door we joined the group huddled around the van giving our order to the lady in the van while the men behind her worked away at the fryers. As food left the fryers she offered the standard choice of salt and vinegar then wrapped each order with speed and efficiency. The specials had mostly sold out already which is not surprising as the van is only in place for a couple of hours and I think the locals are well practiced at visiting. We took our fish and chips back to our holiday cottage and enjoyed what is one of the best fish and chips I have ever experienced made all the more special when you see the size of the van they were able to produce it from.Definitely one to try but make sure you arrive at the beginning of the time to avoid disappointment.

Just had fish and chips from the van. Limited menu but that's understandable as its a van. Fish was 5* but chips just 1*. Why? Because they're bought in frozen chips. Good quality for bought in frozen chips but not good enough. The fish was lovely, fresh, perfectly cooked and in a lovely batter. The kids all had a sausage which was weirdly like a German Bockwurst - again, not great. No drinks available when we went, not sure if this was a one off or normal.

Sorry to say that these were objectively the worst poke bowls I’ve ever had. The rice was criminallyyyyy overcooked oh my goddd!!!!!! I can’t recommend the mushroom poke bowl at all ( but there wasn’t any choice because they had no chicken and no tuna), as the flavours of pineapple, coleslaw and shiitake mushrooms do notttt go. They said food was slow at the beginning of the night but it really wasn’t that busy- not busy enough at all for the quality of that rice😔😔😔. £17 for a no- meat poke with inedible rice and bad flavour. All I ate was the melon and edamame. Can’t recommend at all.

We were on holiday for a week but my husband and myself ate here twice. We were served by Izzy and Indie who were a credit to the restaurant, lovely ladies. Our meal was lovely. Shout out to Max, who was the chef who cooked our meal. I must say that the in house made bread is fantastic. My husband said it was the best bread he had ever tasted! The foccacia style bread was a refreshing change from the sourdough you seem to be given everywhere. It's a small restaurant with great food and great views so make sure you book if you want to dine here. Thanks for a lovely evening x
