Had a lovely early evening meal in the sunshine outside on the terrace. The new canopy is fantastic. Love the lighting and especially the heaters!! Lauren was our server - she really looked after us - very friendly and efficient. Would definitely recommend.

Me and my partner visited the Aspinall Arms 7/9/21, we booked very late in the day but we were delighted to get a table. we were very lucky as when we got there they were full! we arrived a little early, but were offered drinks and to go sit out in the garden until our table was available. the garden is gorgeous, right by there river and very peaceful with ample socially distanced seating. when our table was available we were seated by Suzanne, ( we later found out she is the landlady, and really really lovely! the perfect host!) we both had a starter and main, i opted for the baby squid, i urge you to do the same, if seafood is not your thing take my girlfriends recommendation and get the halloumi fries! ( best she has had by all accounts!) Mains, i had the seabass with Miso, absolutely delicious and well balanced. Lucy opted for the chicken burger, again the same, gorgeous! if you are in the area, please pop by and pay Suzanne and her wonderful team a visit! they all work so very hard to ensure you the best possible experience and that certainly came through last night! well done team! we hope to me back on our next trip to Clitheroe! and thank you for the recommendations of other places to eat too. I just called in for a pint, as it was such a lovely, warm day, and there probably won't be many left this year. I ordered a pint of Peroni and a packet of plain crisps, and was slightly taken aback to be charged £6.85!I queried it, and was told that a pint of Peroni is £5.35, and the crisps are £1.50.I know Peroni's a premium beer, but for a local pub in Lancashire I felt this was expensive.

It was terrible. Went for family event. We were shoehorned into the smallest conservatory. 4 menus between 14 people. Seemed like we were out of sight out of mind, took 20 mins before our drinks purser was taken. The waitress was quite abrupt and would only serve from the doorway - she wouldn’t serve individuals demanding we passed everything around the table ourselves. The food was overpriced - 4 x 2cm square pieces of belly pork £7!! Food was cold, had obviously been kept warm as was hard also. Very disappointed and won’t be rushing back. On a plus Fraser the barman was very polite and friendly and asset to the pub, perhaps he should train the rest

On arrival was told no outside eating was to be served?? Due to staff problems, beautiful weather and pre booked outside ahead of the meal. Been before and it was well above average, but this time I'm sorry to say ,I will think twice about going back, food has lost its spark and is now average pub grub ,it's a shame because it's such a nice location and has had good reviews in the past.

Heard rave reviews about this pub and was warned to prebook. Called ahead to book a table, as we were celebrating & we were walking so wanted to ensure some availability for food. Was informed no booking necessary for outside tables. Fair enough as we wanted to enjoy the beautiful views and sunshine. Walked across the fields, an hour to the pub. On arrival - No food tables were available, no option to wait or book in later- should have called to book! Was told that the phone number goes through to the brewery - Who appear not to understand how the pub works. Despite it’s beautiful location, gorgeous garden and friendly staff, this pub left us disappointed and frustrated. It’s clearly a local gem. If the phone number on your webpage is incorrect, change it? If the brewery don’t understand how you operate, update them, and if customers are frustrated at those last two points own it, and take responsibility for not playing an active part in the effective organisation and running of your pub?

Came here with family after a weekend away. The restaurant has amazing views so we had a quick drink outside before eating. The food was delicious, I thoroughly enjoyed my Chicken Burger and fries. The ice cream was very disappointing though size wise. I had only ordered one scoop but I think they must have used a melon baller rather than an ice creams scoop because it was so small and not worth the money. Service was mixed. I think the waitress may have been new because she did seem very unsure of herself but the waiters were very efficient.A lovely evening out.

Shame the service has gone so down hill on this lovely location. After asking for drinks on more than one occasion and then half of them missing we didn’t think it could get much worse. But getting someone to take a order or even clear the table of plates and glasses was a challenge. The food was ok but unfortunately some of it was cold after a long wait, but we’d got fed up by then and just ate what we could and left. Won’t return anytime soon.

What a let down to our Daughter’s birthday party, we were all excited about getting together with family at last. The table was booked well in advance for 10 people, when we arrived their was a party of 4 and 2 other couples, the 4 got seated after 5 minutes, the first couple got seated 5 minutes later and the other couple just walked out. We were stood at the bar for a good 10 minutes awaiting to be seated and hopefully get a drink, a man with a beard took the name for the booking and said he would place 2 tablets together and in the meantime get a drink at the bar, another good 5 minutes went and still no drink. When he came back to show us to our tables, I mentioned we still haven’t been served at the bar for a drinks order, he replied I will be straight back to take your order, and 10/15 minutes went by and nobody came for our order, we could see outside that a waitress and waiter was stood outside waiting to serve customers. I then went to the bar again to try and order some drinks and waitress asked me if she could help, I said that would be nice and told her where we were sitting ( forgotten room ) again another good 10 minutes went by. Then another friendly waitress came and said sorry for the delay we have just swopped over shifts can I take your food order, we all looked at her and said we would like to have a drink first. Once we got our drinks after a very long wait she took our food order, I asked for some more drinks again nobody came for the drinks order. When the food arrived I asked if could have another drink, yet another 10 minutes before the drinks came. All the food was very good and plentiful but the drink service was very slow to say the least, and all this time the waitress and waiter were still outside. In an establishment like this we would have thought that they would have a overlooked to make sure everything is running smoothly and unfortunately we sat in conservatory at the back and was totally forgotten.

The starters were tasty, but minimalFor the main course we ordered ribeye steak and chips. If the chip had been triple cooked, they had been round the block three times. They were oozing. We ordered the steak medium, but there was still lots of fatty connective tissue which made it less enjoyable. When the bill arrived, we had been overcharged for a gin and tonic and had to ask for this to be adjusted. In essence it was two fish cakes with a little salad. Disappointing. It was noticeable with other dishes that potion sizes were reduced - on the last visit the chicken more than covered the bun - this time the bun easily covered the chicken. Sales prevention pubOur trip to the Aspinall Arms at Mitton this evening was less than satisfactory. We have been here many times the place was well run the staff pleasant and efficient; however for what ever reason their systems in place since COVID are very anti- customer.1. In the very place where you could eat, out in the open on the picnic table, no food service is available2. You have to order your drink outside in the garden on the website app from the picnic table where the internet connection is half baked3. Ourselves and two other couples tried as advised to order drinks and the dreaded circle spinning round was what we were faced with4. However of the two drinks that we were eventually placed with great difficulty …. Only one went through. So husband had to then go into the bar to explain, where they said yes it did tend to do this. Another drink then had to be ordered over the bar!We spoke to the other two parties and they didn’t get one drink ordered and had to go to the bar for them. I was unable to speak to the manager as they were not available. So we walked 5 minutes down the road and had a meal and drinks at James Place - Mitton Country Hotel where no such sales prevention systems were in place outside on their very beautiful terrace! – Try it Come on this pub/restaurant is cashing in on doing as little as possible due to COVID - do the investors know this?!Thank goodness the Three Fishes is due to open! Can’t come soon enough.

Superb scenery aside, this is a great country pub. Was very impressed from the moment I arrived (Sunday 27th) at the covid precautions (One way systems and full table service) if only Boris took the pandemic as seriously as the Asspinall arms. Very reassuring with everything going on that we would be dining safely. Covid measures explained clearly, as we were walked to our seats.Sat outside for a tasty Sunday roast. 2 young lads, running a tight ship outside, both very friendly with the customers and refreshingly, very friendly with each other. Food, sauces and drinks were brought quickly and we weren’t chasing after someone to take our orders like you are in some places. Very glad I didn’t order starters as they were not needed. Didn’t have room for pudding, but those of the diners nearby looked delicious. Can’t wait to come back for another Sunday lunch, a true gem - Andrew.

Booked a table on line in Feb. Asked for a specific table near to the bar. Arrived and it was chaos. Large crowd outside, no organisation, some had booked some walk ins. Waited 20 min past our booking time to get in with elderly mum. Was told our table wasn't available. Stuck in back room..... interestingly half the tables were empty. It took 15 min to get a drink order in and another 15 min to get the drinks. My original booked table had been empty this whole time, but we couldn't move! Ordered food , waited another 20min. Then my husband received a small order of fish and chips when large was ordered. Ordered drinks at start of meal.... by the time we had eaten some 20 min later still no drinks. I went to find a waitress and after another 10 min the drinks arrived. Then another 20 min wait for desserts. When I tracked down a waitress to get the bill they had cheekily charged for a large fish and chips some £4 different. We had looked forward like everyone else to getting into a pub, but this was disappointing. On Facebook, the aspinal Arms has been complaining people are not turning up.... maybe they got fed up of waiting outside???? Or maybe they heard about the extremely poor customer service. The day would have been better spent having a bbq in the garden. Sorry but as a long term customer we won't be rushing back whilst you get your act together.

The first thing you notice when you visit The Aspinall is the Covid 19 procedures in place, they put other places in the area to shame. Check in at the door for track and trace, hand sanitiser available at the door, all staff wearing either masks or visors. Their Covid 19 procedures are explained to you as you are shown to your table and menus are on paper and disposed of after each customer. If you have an allergy and mention it at check in you are given a menu showing all the allergens, with reassurances that food is cooked separately to avoid cross contamination.Went with two friends and we had a lovely lunch sat on a well spaced table and service was very good too. The vegan mushroom pie, new potatoes, vegetables and gravy was substantial and delicious. My friends quiche and a fish and chips were also given the big thumbs up.It would be nice to have a few more vegan options, as I visit regularly and the choice is a little limited. I asked if I could have the salmon tortellini starter as a main course - I was charged double the price of the starter (£16.95) for just four pieces of tortellini from a packet, not even homemade, and it wasn’t cooked very well either - I’ve had nicer tortellini from the supermarket. Overall, average food at inflated prices. Shame because the restaurant is in a lovely location, but won’t be rushing back. Visited for first outing after lockdown and was really looking forward to it. Food was good, better than pre lockdown in my opinion. The ladies who served us were very pleasant and service was prompt. However, was sat outside on the terrace. There weren't any no smoking signs anywhere, tables all around me unoccupied, and I picked up my e-cigarette. The male staff member who I assume was a manager, strode over and said in a very loud voice that no smoking of any kind was allowed on the terrace at any time. He said you can go stand over there on the grass! Other people looked round at me, I found the whole thing humiliating to be spoken to in such a rude manner in front of everyone like some child, and it did ruin the evening for me. I'm not objecting to if that's the rules and apologised to him but found him to have a very condescending attitude. Have never been told this wasn't allowed outside before after all the times I have visited and have been a regular customer over the years. Maybe some signage would be helpful and a more polite attitude when speaking to paying diners wouldn't go amiss.

We visited the Aspinall after a long local dog walk. We waited around 10 minutes at the front door, so unsure of what the procedure was we walked towards to the bar. Immediately a man came running over shouting at us to 'step back' I was quite shocked at the first impression we received. We stepped back towards the door and check in area. When asked if we had booked a table, our reply was no, the chap then pulled his face at us, baring in mind there was a lot of picnic benches free when we drove past. We were then asked if we wanted food, which we said yes, to be then told 'well the kitchen closes in 30 minutes so you better hurry up'!!! We were then asked if all the dogs were ours and got a very filthy look, sigh and glare when we replied yes. 5 dogs between 3 friends in a dog friendly pub, isn't uncommon? Surely?! We sat down ordered and to be honest the food and waiters who attended our table were excellent. We were still a little shocked by the attitude the male staff member presumably a manager who had originally greeted us. We all felt very let down by this as never have we experienced a staff member with such an attitude problem and we all live locally and have previously visited regularly.

Perfect in every way.... flawless. Visited today with my Mum and husband (we are in a bubble together) From being greeted at the door, felt safe and the place is very COVID friendly.Service was fantastic and we were really well looked after by our waitress. The food was delicious. I had warm crispy beef to start and lamb shoulder for the main. The lamb shoulder was cooked to perfection and was the nicest I have ever had! Veg all really fresh. Shared the chocolate brownie with my husband. My mum and husband were as complimentary about their food. My Mum was pleased she could have a small portion of fish and chips as a “lighter bite” option as often, portions are too large for her.We were made to feel really welcome. I would highly recommend this place and will definitely return. Beautiful surroundings too by the river.

Visited here again recently as we were in the area so decided to go for lunch, upon entry there was a young girl who did great job of taking all our track and trace info and showing us what they had in place for the virus which was all spot on, unfortunately after this it wasn't great, no issues in the ordering of food and drink but they did forget our cutlery, as the food came out and we had to ask for some as did the table behind us. I had a steak burger which at 13.95 should have been much better, very very dry and it says on the menu it comes with fries, it didn't it came with huge chunky chips which were under cooked and hard, my wife had the rump steak sandwich which to be fair came out nicely cooked and a good portion size, but again skin on fries are supposed to accommodate it, they didn't, again huge undercooked chips, all in all I dont think we'll visit again on this basis, maybe I should have said something but I didn't want to embarrass anyone on the day.

Wow! What a superb setting, menu, quality of food, Covid 19 precautions and staff! This evening’s visit was well on the way to a 5 star review until we came to desserts. I ordered a cheese board and then the waitress came back to say no cheese... totally unacceptable at 5.30 on a Monday evening and then my second choice of a mini creme brûlée was also unavailable.I know this might seem a little pedantic but it really took the edge off what was a really excellent experience. Please up your game and ensure customers are told before they order if something is unavailable! No cheese and biscuits though....... no excuse.

The Aspinall Arms has always been a favourite place of ours for a midweek night out. Post-lockdown however, things haven't just quite been the same and we were wondering whether the chef and the bar manager might have changed. On two occasions, food chosen was simply not quite up there and lacked something - slightly undercooked lukewarm steak, burger flavourless, or choices unavailable in the first place. They no longer have the same previously excellent choice of dark beer / bitter which was quite a pull. And finally, last night they were out of sparkling water. There really isn't any excuse for that...

We visited the Aspinall Arms on the Saturday evening of the Bank Holiday weekend. We were warmly welcomed and shown to our table. Drinks and food order was taken quickly. The drinks came quickly and we settled in for a nice meal. When the food arrived we had a few issues my young daughters fish and chips was served with a salad rather than peas which the waiter explained was because they had run out of peas, not great for a child’s meal. Then my wife’s ravioli arrived which took us back as it was under cooked and the sauce (pea) was missing. We complained and the dish was taken away it returned cooked but the pea sauce literally just covered the Boston of the bowl and could be found only if you looked under the ravioli.Given a third or more of the dishes on the menu had peas on them I found the fact they had run out of peas on the Saturday of a bank holiday weekend very disappointing.Food was fine if a bit expensive , service was good if a little excessive on asking if we wanted more drinks.Nice place, good food just let down by lack of peas and very poor management of the situation. No thought of communication to the guests or other veg options.

Dined tonight early evening. Last night of the Eat Out promotion so expected it to be busy but not as bad as we thought. However they knew how many diners they were expecting as they published earlier in the day that they were fully booked. The service was terrible. We waited an hour between starters and main course. We had to flag a girl down to order a second round of drinks and when we asked, after 50 minutes, if there was any sign of our main courses we were told there were some many tickets on’ !! Not acceptable. We ate the food. Passable but not outstanding and asked for our bill as we didn’t want to wait an hour for our desserts. I mentioned the poor service to the waitress. Half hearted apology. This is the second time this has happened to us here. The service at lunch times is usually ok but it all seems to go pear shaped on busy evenings

Went to The Aspinall for lunch. I have to say the Covid 19 precautions were excellent. Signage outside gives you clear information as to how it works, you wait to be greeted at the door, your booking and your details are checked, you are asked to use sanitiser and then shown to your table. Tables are well spaced, staff wear visors and there is no going to the bar, everything is table service. Disposable menus are already on the table and drinks and cutlery are brought to the table and you are asked to take them off the tray to put on the table. Sitting in the Aspinall Arms is one of the few safe places I have been, they get a big thumbs up for this.Drinks were promptly brought to the table as was the cutlery and our food order taken. My friends fish and chips and a large fishcakes arrived first, then my vegan tortellini. Unfortunately my friend had to send her fish and chips back as they were lukewarm on a nearly cold plate. The replacement was piping and delicious apparently. My vegan tortellini was tasty but a little under cooked and under seasoned but as my friend had already sent hers back I was too embarrassed to do the same with mine. The fishcakes were fine fortunately.I did think that 5 tortellini for £13.95 was steep but as it was Wednesday the Eat Out To Help Out scheme gave a 50% discount.Overall although we had problems with some of the food, the fact we felt in a very safe environment, means we would return.

The Aspinall Arms is a delightful pub. The interior is homely and well decorated and the gardens are beautiful. The front of house staff could not have been any better or more professional towards the new Covid- 19 rules. However the food I ordered was dreadful. The prawn linguine tasted like it had come straight from a jar. It’s not cheap food here and I came away feeling like I’d wasted my money. This was really such a shame as all other aspects of the pub are great, and it was sad to see the food letting the side down so much.

Visited yesterday Evening taking advantage of the eat out to help out scheme. Very well managed on arrival with meet and greet and escort to table. Plenty of sanitisation ‘stations’ and staff clearly well briefed to ensure social distancing is maintained to protect both staff and customers.I could clearly see all tables and chairs being cleaned as soon as they were vacated before seating next customers. The food was excellent ( four in our party ordering sea bass , steak , fish cakes and a variety of desserts) and considering how busy the restaurant was , very impressive. How they manage this with a bustling restaurant is amazing. All food was served in a timely manner, all hot and appearing freshly prepared. The staff were clearly focussed on ensuring a quality customer service both attentive and polite. ( nothing worse when you go to some restaurants and staff walk around with their eyes on the floor but not the case here)The current scheme is a good opportunity for local restaurants to promote their business with more people encouraged to eat out and the Aspinall will clearly capitalise on this if it maintains the standards of food and service we witnessed on this occasion. I would have happily paid the full price and would recommend to anyone in the area to visit and experience for themselves.Look forward to visiting again soon. Well done Aspinall!!

Booked yesterday for Sunday at 6pm for Sunday roast, the service was good although we were failed to be informed that there was no Yorkshire pudding left to have with our roast beef until after it arrived. We were given some extra veg to compensate. I am slightly worried that the chef couldn't rustle up more Yorkshire pudding as it's an easy batter of flour eggs and milk that doesn't take too long to cook. I almost offered to do it myself! The rest of the food was ok but the beef was chewy and fatty so spoiled what would have been an otherwise nice meal. In my opinion if you're doing mainly Sunday roasts on a menu you get enough ingredients to last till the end of service and get the basics right including the main part, the meat.

We dined here to celebrate my mother in laws 58th & our 32nd wedding anniversaries &wished we hadn’t.We were greeted at the door by a pleasant young man & was informed that the place was now cashless. Thought it would have been a good idea to mention this when we booked as we only usually carry cash. Luckily mum had a card on her.We were shown to our table & dad noted a very dirty floor which another lady got somebody to clean up.We ordered drinks only to be told they had run out of the beer which was ordered. We asked for small cokes but were brought pint pots.We then ordered food from a very sullen waitress. She then came back & said they had run out of steak burgers so 3 of us then ordered chicken burgers. We waited quite a while for our starters as they were busy and, to be fair, the starters were nice. Our main course arrived. The chicken burgers were lukewarm & so were the chips. The southern fried coating was soggy. The tiny bit of coleslaw was warm. The whole thing looked unappetising. Mum had ordered large fish & chips. The waitress had described the sizes of the fish & this fish was mostly definitely small. When we asked the waitress she said it was large & only looked small because it had curled up in the fryer. The fish hadn’t curled at all. We ordered 2portions of onion rings but these never arrived. We did complain about the burgers & I told the waitress that had she come back to ask how our food was I would have sent it back. The cost of one of the burgers was knocked off the bill .This was one of the worst meals we have had in a long while. It was expensive & unorganised. We would not recommend here & won’t be visiting again.

I visited the Aspinal Arms last Monday. This was my fist dining experience since lockdown was eased (I was apprehensive to start dining again) and I can honestly say I enjoyed every second of it!We queued outside the front of the restaurant for 5 minutes (which I saw as an understandable way of entering an establishment given the current situation), from here we were welcomed in and explained very thoroughly the new procedures they had in place before being escorted to our table (again, I appreciated this as it gave us guidance and clear rulings for the evening). Staff were polite and attentive and were even able to add some light humour to the evening, joking with us as we ordered drinks/food (this created a more relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere and allowed us to feel more at ease - great job!). The food was faultless as always, I ordered the steak burger which as always delivered a 10/10 in presentation and taste! (One of the best burgers I’ve ever had). My partner ordered the sea bass which I must say looked amazing! I’m not one to order fish dishes but this will definitely be my order next time I come! All in all - this will go down as a memorable experience, I was cautious to start eating out again but the Aspinal has given me the confidence to return to normal dining.
