Ribchester Arms in Ribble Valley

I stayed overnight at the Ribchester Arms recently and would not wish to return. Whilst the room was nice and big, with a nice bathroom and a lovely tea try there were big problems. Firstly the bed was one of the most uncomfortable I have ever stayed in - the mattress was old and hard. There was zero soundproofing between my room and next door and I could literally hear everything that was being said - I could not sleep through this and what with the bed I had a terrible night. There were no plugs for a hairdryer or straighteners near a mirror so I had to use my compact to see which was ridiculous. Breakfast is served from 8.30 am which is very late and I had to push for an earlier service which I was grateful to receive, but it's a bit ridiculous I had to ask. Dinner was poor as was the service. I was overlooked firstly to get a menu (I had to ask), the wait staff were taking orders for tables around me so I had to ask them to take my order. No refill of drinks offered. When I had finished they were offering tables around me dessert, but not me (perhaps they thought I didn't need it?!!) so again had to ask. I felt sidelined and overlooked and I thought this really poor. The food was not great eg. for dessert I had the chocolate fondant that was hard in the middle - the whole point of this is to have a runny middle. The chicken with panko crust was not panko, it was a thick breaded crust which was partly cooked so not overly appertising. I would not return nor suggest others visit.

Stayed here for an overnight stay for B&B paying £85 with my genius discount on booking.com. Located in Ribchester in the Ribble Valley we already know the local area well. The rooms are spacious and very clean and comfortable. There is a kettle, a mini fridge ( 2 bottles water, orange juice and milk) and a wide array of Taylors tea and coffee sachets. Sleigh bed was very comfortable and there was also towelling robes in the room. Toiletries supplied in the bathroom and the towels were fluffy and off a great quality. Water pressure in the shower was good. We ate our evening meal in the restaurant. The menu is varied and food tasty. Service was good. Breakfast consisted of cereals/ juice / tea or coffee and then an offer of a hot breakfast Ribchester full English or eggs Benedict. There was an option of fresh fruit and a pastry in your room. We felt it was great value and would return again

Went to Ribchester Arms today for lunch with the husband and the food was amazing. We both had chicken Bao buns, I had a fish buttie and he had the stir fry. The fish was beautiful, his stir fry was excellent, staff really friendly and it was topped off by the best of Wham playing! Winner winner

What a fabulous stop off for lunch this was, a great pint of real ale with home made pies to die for and attended by a superb staff team. I can,t recommend this place enough, well done to all at The Ribchester Arms.

We have rediscovered this amazing resteraunt this year and have visited several times in January. I can only congratulate the new management team for such a great effort to make you feel welcome and comfortable. The menue is one to suit all and the food coming out of the kitchen is consistantly excellent.

Been coming to this restaurant for years. Well I don't know what has changed in the kitchen but the people cooking are certainly can't classed as chefs. I went for a 3 course Christmas Dinner on the 15 December. It was absolutely disgusting. 1 slice of white meat and underneath was dark brown and certainly was not turkey. The vegetables were disgusting. The whole meal my Family could not eat and we left the whole dinner it was disgusting so was the soup which was cold. I demanded the manager I settled the bar bill and refused to pay for the meals it was that bad. Something I have never done in my life but what they turned out was disgusting. We will never to return. We have always supported this restaurant over the years but never again. Produce that standard of a meal and they will certainly be going out of business. 50 mile round trip what a complete waste.

Ordered the sunday roast and what an awfull dissapointment. The vegetables were practically raw, the roast potatoes were obviously warmed up from lunchtime, the beef was not freshly carved either. When i complained (in a civil manner) i got no uderstanding from the server whatsoever so to sum it all up the meal was daylight robbery and i wont be dining there anymore

There were nine of us for my partners birthday, we’ve never been here before but had driven past a few times and thought it looked nice from the outside. Some people within my family didn’t have any problems with their food, but four out of nine did. One family member could only eat part of their dish because the other part wasn’t edible…unfortunately they didn’t say anything at the time. Three members - including myself - all had the chicken schnitzel. One member had to ask for it to be changed whilst my partner and I ate ours. However, all three of us encountered the same problems which were tough chicken you could hardly cut through, the chicken wasn’t flat as schnitzel should be, and it had a batter type coating rather than crispy breadcrumbs which made it soggy. This meal came with french fries and a supposed rocket salad with parmesan. It in fact looked like a few leaves with a bit of cheese on top. The drinks are extortionate with a Stella or Cider costing £5.60, and an Orange OJ ridiculously high at £3.30. Furthermore, they don’t have a drinks menu so you don’t see the price until the bill arrives. At the end of the meal we were given vouchers for 20% off the food in January and February, needless to say we won’t be using them!

Booked a table here for the first time in years and decide to go for the beef Sunday roast. It was beautiful - tender beef which melted in your mouth. There weren't many vegetables which was a shame, but we had ordered a side of cauliflower cheese which was extra. Also it would have been so much better with mash than boiled potatoes, but the roast potatoes were nice too. Overall a lovely meal and I would recommend

Family of 4 we visited last night . Lovely welcome . We all had different mains shared starters . All the food was very good nice and hot good portion size . I think good value . Enjoyable evening with lovely service . Good menu choice without been too big .

After a 10 mile walk we were ready to eat, so we decided to try the recommended to us Ribchester arms. Warmly greeted and quickly seated we had our drinks order taken immediately, when I asked what cask ales they sold, our server knew exactly what was on offer, great start.👍👍. We both ordered the soup, it arrived piping hot accompanied with warm fresh bread. For round two, I had the roast lamb and my wife the pork. The portions are huge which made my day, roasties are to die for and the Yorkshire puds are huge fluffy and crispy. Pudding was a dream. I’ll say no more, you need to try it yourself. What a wonderful experience.

The worst meal we have had for some years! Food delivered not as described on the menu, ignored customer's request, overcooked, dry, inedible mashed potato etc. Piling items with no taste on a plate does not deliver an appetising dish. Definitely will never be going again.

Lovely outdoors dining at front and rear of pub. Well spaced tables and very warm welcome. Advise to book. We had sandwiches which come with salad and chips. It's a substantial lunch. Toilets are a bit cramped so not great during the Pandemic.

Been here a couple of times when visiting Clitheroe although never stayed. The pub is spacious and the bar area is dog friendly. Menu is extensive and varied and the food is excellent and well presented. The staff are friendly and welcoming.

We enjoyed a beautiful meal all cooked to order, the menu had something tasty for everyone to enjoy.

The bar staff and waitresses were really friendly. I ate in the beer garden at the front. The fish and chips were excellent and the small portion was large enough for me. I later found that the hotel had another wonderful beer garden by a small stream at the rear of the hotel. I will certainly return.

Was happy to visit after such a long time as it was closed due to the floods and then lockdownCouldn't be more dissapointed in the way they seemed to have ignored covid guidelines. No disposable menus, staff not wearing masks. Staff handling drinks. Whats more they ask you to login to their WiFi for the track amd trace but it wasn't even working which is concerning. Other reviewers have said that its not covid safe and they haven't changed anything. Please please start following guidelines so we feel safe to come out. The food is nice but I won't be visiting again . It's not worth risking it especially with the rise in cases in the north.

So often in the hospitality industry are the standards below par, perpetuated by poor management, this is not the case in the Ribchester Arms.We visited two days in a row, the second day for food and both days the service and the standard of cleanliness was the best we have seen since post lock down, and probably for a long time pre lock down too. Food, drink, service, and levels of professionalism were all of the highest standard, we cannot recommend it enough!

Fantastic atmosphere, staff very friendly attended to our every need in really good time, set out perfectly for distancing, during these uncertain times. All the food starters, mains and desserts were beautiful and well presented Thank you to all! we had a very enjoyable evening!

Visited the Ribchester Arms for a quick dinner before heading out for some drinks. Food was traditional and good value for the portion size (hearty!) but nothing felt homemade or imaginative. Still - very tasty and we enjoyed it.I'm a little concerned about the lack of Covid restrictions or protocol in place. There were no contact details taken for us, staff were carrying drinks round in their hands rather than tray service (which I hate at the best of times!) And the one way system was largely ignored by staff and guests alike. Toilets were a bit grubby but there was a small hand sanitizer available. All in all, we had a pleasant visit and the team were super friendly, but not sure I'd rush back. Maybe a few drinks on the front terrace would be nice if this rain ever stops!!

Visited a few times before and has always been great. The food is delicious and the service is spot on normally. However, we visited yesterday and did not feel comfortable with the level of social distancing and sanitisation (we were seated before our table had been sanitised) put in place to prevent the spread of coronavirus. When we arrived we expected a member of staff to take our contact details for test and trace as we thought this was mandatory, however they did not which means that we cannot be contacted if we are at risk. The pub was extremely busy which meant that staff and customers were unable to keep a safe distance. We feel that there were too many people allowed inside and outside the building at one point and therefore this made it an unsafe environment. The customers were allowed to congregate in big groups and the staff, due to how busy the pub was, were struggling to manage it. The food was great as always but must do more to ensure the safety of customers.

We love their fish and chips. Always good. The staff are so friendly and helpful and the Cumbrian beer is a really good pint. It must be heart breaking for them having been flooded again in February and we look forward to visiting them again once they are able to open again. All the best to everyone who works there.

My last review was exactly a year ago today!Time for a revisit.The place remains as friendly as ever with most of the staff long-serving.A decent selection of ales at the bar is always a good start.Plenty of choice on the menus plus specials.Our food arrived promptly and was well prepared and presented. They don't skimp on portions here and the prices are very reasonable.So this place maintains its high standards of excellent pub food. Recommended.

Visited here nye with my other half, our eldest daughter & her bf. We had a warm welcome even though the place was very busy! The service was perfect & waitresses friendly & knowledgable. My partner & I had pate to start (so good & absolutely massive portions), our lass had halloumi & really enjoyed (another big portion too), her bf had black pudding (also very very generous) as all starters were tasty & well received.My other half had rib eye for main & the plate was full to bursting & the food cooked to perfection, as was mine & our lasses lamb shank (falling off the bone in a delish minted gravy) couldnt eat my chips as I was bursting at the seams! The bf had fish & chips & like all our dishes was huge & tasty. All in all another successful visit to this friendly pub & we will most certainly be back very soon in the new year (just have to make sure our eyes ain't bigger than our bellies)!Thank you for making our visit enjoyable

We had Sunday lunch which was very reasonably priced with a good choice of menu. £18.50 for 3 courses. Everybody enjoyed it and the service was excellent. Staff were very friendly. It was very busy which is always a good sign. I had the roast beef and this was a very large portion, couldn't eat it all, the meat was very tender. Some had lamb and said that was very nice, one had salmon which was very good. Portions were plentiful and a good choice of veg accompanied the meals. Drinks were reasonably priced too. Definitely would recommend a visit and we would go again.

Ribchester is a wonderful place in the "Ribble Valley". (Apparently the "happiest" place to live in the Country in 2019). We took a drive there one afternoon. They serve food all day. The food was up to scratch even at the time of day we arrived (3pm). Portions were generous and I had the chicken, mushroom and tarragan with chips. I just wish more pubs did "small" portions, as I get overfaced with too much food and end up leaving it. Its a shame as I feel guilty about leaving it, but cant eat it all and it seems such a waste. Anyway, not the pubs fault. The pub itself is welcoming, the lady that seemed in charge was lovely and everyone very friendly. Highly recommended and on a Winter/Summers days its a lovely place to be. The scenery is wonderful.
