We stopped here for some lunch after a walk along the tolkien trail. The staff were really lovely and the service was fab. And the sandwiches were very tasty too 😊 Maybe a bit on the pricey side but very enjoyable meal overall!

Excellent stay. Friendly staff and great service - special shout out to Sadie, Charlotte and Alex. Food good. Location first class - great dog walking area - recommend the Tolkien Trail. Also stayed at the Assheton Arms - a sister hotel. It was also in a great location with an extremely comfortable room - food was marginally better at the Assheton but the service was far superior at the Shireburn. Hope to come back soon.

My wife and I stayed overnight and had both snacks, evening meal and full cooked breakfast. The quality and presentation was excellent in all cases. My steak and ale pie was simply superb as was my wife's Lancashire chicken. Full breakfast was cooked fresh to order and again very good quality. Well worth a visit

I would suggest the main issues here at the moment are either poor management or lack of experience. And both do not leave a lot to return for. Very little hospitality Food was all fine, at expectations not over. I’ve been coming here most my adult life; married here and its not where it should be in terms of experience.

We visited the Shireburn on Saturday 27th April with six friends. Some of our friends meals could have been better but worst of all the service is really poor. OK there was a wedding on but no cutlery, for starters or main courses and missing one of our friends main courses, not acceptable. This is the second time we’ve been and the first time, last summer was just the same. There is a management issue here with poorly trained staff. Very unlikely we’ll return.

Went for a drink and booked for dinner but were so unimpressed with the staff and service that we cancelled and went to the Aspinall Arms which was wonderful. Lots of staff but slow, confused service, charmless and indifferent. Got the impression that no-one was in charge and managing the staff.

Re: Christmas 2 night special Mr & Mrs S.Burke: Complaints in writing Shireburn Christmas Wed, 27 Dec 2023, 18:52, We were so disappointed with our stay at the Shireburn Arms that we stayed one night and checked out, forfeiting part of our payment of £490 in advance, covering Christmas day. After attending a wedding earlier this year, we were expecting to dine in the lovely dining area, Instead we were seated in the Public Bar, so busy with non- diners standing right up close in animated rather loud conversation and several small children running around. The tables were very close together and a party of six right up to our backs. You did your best and seated us in a separate room but we spent the evening just the two of us as we accepted this offer in choice over the rowdy alternative, not what we had planned! The last straw in this scenario was that our food was very poor, appearing and tasting as if it had been on hot plates for an extended time, I couldn't cut my roast potatoes which were rock hard, We felt we had complained enough and left it there, leaving the food half eaten. When I asked about Christmas dinner the next day we were told it would be the same, served to us in the bar. We were not willing to spend another day in these surroundings, hardly the settings described in your Christmas Brochure which were promoted but simply were not delivered. We decided it would be less upsetting to leave than stay on for what I feel sure would be more of the same. I have to say, the company's policy seems to be to make as much money as possible, over and above customer comfort and satisfaction. I asked for a refund, on our booked accommodation, left early through no fault of ours, just so unsatisfactory and you said you will speak to your higher management. As I said, if after 2 weeks from that date (25th Dec) we don't reach what I feel is a satisfactory outcome, I will post a review of the establishment on Trip Advisor Regards Susan Burke To date 13/1/24/ we have received not a word from the Shireburn Arms or their management "James Places" so I am posting this review, and I see it will join many other dissatisfied customers

I was greeted immediately by this lovely girl she gave us a table straight away and was so polite. The food was amazing. However I was very unpleased with the attitude of one of the taller lads running around upon asking for his name I was told he is called Ellis and is a duty manager I don’t know what kind of show they are running at the shireburn but he is one of the most rude incompetent people I have ever come across. However the young girl I believe to be called Scarlett was so polite and kept a positive stride despite being shouted at and bossed around by the taller guy! It’s safe to say we will not be returning due to the awful treatment of the staff. What a disappointment to that poor girl.

Can’t disagree with all the other negative reviews don’t recommend this hotel. We have stayed in many James Places hotels and they were all excellent but I have to say this is the worst hotel I have stayed in. Needs a good cleaning top to bottom all the tables in the hotel had stains on them. Shame this hotel is set in an amazing backdrop to Lancashire green and pleasant landscape. Staff friendly enough but lacked enthusiasm .

This is our local pub and we decided to visit again after having steered clear for a while after a previous disappointment. The setting is lovely and the food was great however the bar and service were shocking. The place appears to be run by teenage boys who really haven't got a clue. I'm sure they just need training and firm management. Forgotten orders, very slow and chaotic. Smirky and bored was the general impression. We weren't the only ones distinctly unimpressed. Such a shame as the food was very good.

Me and my husband stopped by for a cold fizzy drink at about 10.45am this morning, with our dog after a 7 mile walk. It’s a lovely rest stop after a long walk however the service of the person in that area was not very good. Unfortunately I did not catch her name. There were no smiles, very little communication. We were bluntly asked if we would like ice to which my husband replied “yes please” but we did not get given ice. Because my husband and I were tired and we do not like confrontation we ignored this. But we were really shocked to this persons attitude. I’ve worked in customer service and I know it is hard. But you should be polite to customers. Especially when we were being polite too. 2 people coming in from a walk came in after us and they got the same level of poor service. My husband even caught the person rolling her eyes behind the customer. It felt unpleasant and we quickly left after our drink.

Place looked fantastic from the outside and is a maze inside with a games room, multiple eating areas and bars plus outside seating both front & back. Drinks ever so slightly overpriced for my liking but isn’t everywhere right now. Food was just ok but way overpriced for what it was. Prawn sandwich had no sauce/mayo etc, club sandwich came out falling apart and over £4 for 4 burnt battered onion rings seemed steep tbh. I’d definitely return for drinks when in the area but give food a swerve.

Visited here bank hol Sunday, been many mny times before! Was not particularly busy, we sat out back as had 2 small children & dog child with us. What a lovely spot it us too! We ordered food at the bar, the bar was chaos, no urgency whatsoever to the 2 lasses serving, like I said wasn't busy but they were that slow I waited ages to be served (only 2 people in front of me) by the time I had been served (by a very snotty barmaid), the queue was out the door behind me, when totally no need! The food as OK, nothing special but not bad, just a few little tweeks & could be better, a little jug of gravy on the side of dishes served with gravy (as there has appeared to been shortages of this the last few times I have eaten here)! Fish & chips was OK, but nothing special, the children's sausage dishes were good (except for the instant mash). The other embers of our party enjoyed their burger & chicken dish. I probs won't come back in a rush, but it is our nearest eatery & sometimes convenience prevails, but the staff really need some training I would say

After a lovely walk albeit raining we came to this establishment. We literally walked in the door and were greeted with a shout from behind the bar “we don’t do food for walk ins”. As we had initially only stopped for a drink this curt ‘welcome’ was very off-putting. When we ordered our drinks we sat at a quite dirty and sticky table. We had a good view of the bar and watched a couple of young boys one with a baseball hat drinking copious amounts of drinks. The staff spent a lot of time chatting to them it appeared as if they may have been staff off duty. The whole atmosphere of the venue was cold and unwelcoming. We did manage to observe food being served to other people it looked bland and unappetising. Sadly we will not be returning any time soon. What a sad lost opportunity to have a wonderful venue in this beautiful area

Always previously enjoyed the Shireburn until today. Certainly found the most miserable bar maid in the Ribble Valley and perhaps beyond. Asked if it was ok to sit outside at the back. No was the answer without any explanation or apology. Can I order any food. Again the same monosyllabic answer. Felt sorry that I was interrupting her chat with her colleague at this moment. Shame really but plenty of other options in the locality so won’t be back anytime soon.

The starters of fishcakes was just 1 fishcake (menu said fishcakes) so was a bit disappointed as we shared our starters, but it was tasty & good, as was the black pudding fritters, we both had roast beef, this was really nice although I'm not a fan of packet mash (smash) and one tiny slice of beef was not enough as it was lovely, also not enough gravy! All in all we enjoyed

Been waiting three weeks for reply from hotel . As they’ve not had the decency to reply below is some of my original email. We were booked in on a dinner, bed and breakfast package. Rang earlier in week to book table for the evening. On check in we were asked if we required a table for the evening . Said I’d already booked but was told no booking on file. No problem and rebooked table. Arrived for dinner to be told that table had not been booked. Was then given table in corner probably due to the fact that most of the other tables although empty had not been cleared. Young lad in bar was doing job of three people and was obviously stressed out. Felt sorry for him as he was obviously overstretched. Food arrived really good with no issues. Decided to have a drink downstairs, was told sorry might be a few glasses etc down there as no one had chance to tidy up. Again no issues to us but maybe not best practice. Retired for night to room 15 , which was very nice, however extremely broken sleep . Water tank above ceiling filling up every ten minutes and either water pump or maybe Saniflo units running just as often. I have recordings of them if you would like them. Literally sounded like someone pouring water from height. I would be amazed if this was the first complaint you have received about this. Went to breakfast half asleep which was extremely good and we had no issues. However as it got busier items were running out , bread, orange juice etc and several guests asked for refilling but no one seemed to do anything about it. Again not really very professional. On check out I mentioned about tank in loft running most of the night and was told “ it’s terrible when things like that happen, I use earplugs at night” .

Waited far too long to be seated. Had to ask as the staff member was more interested in emptying the dishwasher. Certainly not service with a smile. Our party of 6 adults and two children were pretty cramped at our table following a booking 'mix-up' which they refused to acknowledge. Were told that tsomeone would take our drinks order. After about half an hour we went to check what was happening and saw five staff members chatting away in the bar area. Finally got our drinks after 40 minutes. The food was not bad, to be fair, but a tad expensive for what it was. Didn't expect to be there for for well over two hours for two courses. The final parting gift of dog sh** on the top of the stairs leading from the toilets, which the staff had been told about half an hour earlier, still being there, just about summed up the whole experience.

Had a 1 night stay here in August. Room was lovely, but it overlooked the kitchen and had 2 very large extractor fans outside. These were noisy and put food smells into the room and were switched on at 7am and off at 11pm, so having the window open on a warm evening was not pleasant. Unfortunately the service in the restaurant was poor, waited 30 minutes for taking orders and each course, by the time dessert came it was nearly 10pm, which is a long time as we were booked in at 7pm. Lots of glasses and plates on tables outside, barman came outside with food a couple of times but took no empty glasses or plates back. We complained about the poor quality but instead of replacing the meal, they ‘rectified’ the problem by bringing out another slice of (still) tough beef by which time the rest of the dish was cold , it wasn’t hot to start with! Not only did they not deduct the beef from the bill, they overcharged us by miscalculating our bill. Avoid this restaurant and don’t waste your money!

We visited the Shireburn Arms on bank holiday Monday for an evening meal after a 10 mile walk up Pendle Hill. I booked online and confirmed the reservation a day later. We thought something was not right when we arrived and they appeared surprised. It took 15minutes to be shown to a table and their where only a few other table occupied. We looked at the menu and ordered just to have the waiter return to inform us that the seafood platter was not available, acceptable at the end of a bank holiday weekend but annoying when I specifically check if it was available with the waiter before ordering. Thus we amended our order and the main courses were really good.We then wanted to order dessert but we could not see any staff, after 10 mins I got up and went through to the bar to get a member of staff to come and clear our table and take the order.Again the food was great but it was now getting late and we wanted to leave and get back to our lodging. Agin I resorted to getting up and going through to the bar to find staff. This time no luck, there was a couple in the bar and they said they had been waiting for 15mins to order more drinks but had not seen anyone. While I was waiting there a guest arrived to check in. Eventually three of us agreed to go searching for staff, I ended up checking the office, another the function rooms and the last the garden and eventually the kitchen. We found a member of staff in the kitchen who came to the bar and I was able to pay and leave.

Today was our second visit. Previously we had gone as a group of six (including two teenagers). Having ordered our meals we were kept waiting for two hours. Yes, the staff apologised and even waived the cost of the meal but this should not have happened. When the meals arrived my cheese and onion pie was burnt. It looked burnt so why was it sent out. It was so hard my knife wouldn't go through it. I ordered another which came with great haste. It was still hard and noting like a traditional Lancashire pie (avoid it). Mt husband and I decided to give it another chance so we went for Sunday lunch. The food came quickly but the chapatti was burnt; it was very crisp and inedible - a minor point perhaps but I could see it was burnt so why couldn't the chef (or was he hoping I wouldn't complain)? The menu hardly caters at all for vegetarians and not at all for vegans. They need to up their game.On a different matter the weren't even remotely observing covid rules. The cutlery was already on the tables; the waitesr, who didn't wear protection, were standing much too near people. There was no attempt to keep people two metres apart. We definitely won't be back. A party of six went to Shireburn Arms on Sunday 2nd August to celebrate a couple of birthdays.Beautiful location, tons of atmosphere in pub. Service a little slow, but hey, there is a crisis, so acceptable. Food was excellent.Unfortunately, the whole experience was spoilt – when we got the bill we found we’d been charged nearly £28 for the “bottle of house red” we asked for. We did not specify the grape or anything else, simply that phrase. When we politely raised this with the bar staff we were met with an incredibly arrogant attitude – “well it’s a Rioja and that’s what it costs” – we said we did not ask for a Rioja the answer was “we should have chosen from the wine list” – we pointed out there weren’t any wine lists on the table. Apparently, we should have asked for one. We always ask for a “house red” – as in a decent establishment its usually reasonably priced & good quality and we trust the staff not to take the mick.We looked at the wine list online later and found there are 4 other reds on the list priced under the Rioja – so this was a deliberate and underhanded decision to force us to pay 50% more for the wine. Our bill was nearly £180 – so the £8 or so extra isn’t a lot of cash at all, but the arrogance and condescension of this one staff member - young man, black shirt, huge ego and chip on shoulder (we were too angry to ask for his name) - has spoiled our day and we will never return, and will also tell our friends of our experience. We eat out regularly, usually as a large-ish group, and thought we found our new favourite place (since the Farmers Arms at Great Eck has recently closed) – but not here after this experience.

We have eaten and stayed at Holmes Mill in Clitheroe which is the latest development from James Place the group who own the Shireburn Arms and it is fantastic. Given our experience there we booked The Shireburn Arms for our latest stay in the beautiful Ribble Valley, but I am afraid it was terribly disappointing. 1) Room 20 was very small, indeed the bathroom was do small I burnt my back on the radiator whilst I was brushing my teeth on the sink2) Probably the worst thing was the orange floodlights outside our room that stayed on all night and shone brightly through the inadequate Roman blinds, very poor sleep3) There was a general feeling of the management skimping on everything in the room. Only two hangers in the wardrobe, one little shower gel in the shower between two of us, however we were kindly left a pair of socks in the wardrobe from the previous occupant!4) The general feel of the accomodation is that it needs a refresh, especially the carpets in the hallways which are badly stained and wornAs always I brought the issues up with the desk before I left . The manager did reduce the bill but with a sense of denial and arrogance which just made matters worse really.Come on James Places you can do better than this.

Staff excellent they were polite and friendly being apologetic for our disappointment about the food which had been kept warm for much too long and therefore the quality left much to be desired. The surroundings excellent, very traditional and welcoming. Outside the grounds are well kept and attractive and the views are excellent.

Visited for lunch mid week in January after a very muddy walk in the local hills. Nice looking place with log fires, various places to sit & glorious views at the rear. In summer it must be delightful but in January it was largely empty & a little soulless. There’s a good range of lunch options and the service was very friendly if a little unpredictable – what we ordered was tomato soup & a poached salmon granary sandwich….. what we we got was pea soup plus a white bloomer sandwich. To get both orders wrong when she had nothing else to do was very surprising to say the least! We declined the offer to replace them and despite the error we were both impressed with the quality. Will definitely try again but next time I would make the waitress write the order down in front of me!

Visited on a surprisingly busy lunchtime. There were welcoming open fires. There was a decent selection of ales. The menu was standard pub fare. The young staff were hard-working and efficient. Our food was excellent and averagely priced.A reliable choice for a pub lunch. The whole hotel has a homely feel to it.

To start, if you have trouble with mobility this place is certainly not for you, the rooms were very few and far between and all only accessible by stone steps. The place itself was lovely, so very clean and tidy however £95 per night was a little steep, considering we was at the front of the hotel with the tragic and bus stop it wasn’t the best of nights sleep. Staff were lovely, couldn’t do enough for you, the food was average but I am a fussy eater. Mainly the wedding was lovely, my main complaint is the expense of the rooms.

Great food ( highly recommend the cod loin in clam chowder, although new menu coming this week so not sure if it will still be on the menu). Attentive waiting on staff ( without being annoying)! Relaxed cosy setting. The only small issue was the writing on the menu card was tiny! If I didnt know the menu as well as I do, I'd of struggled! Or maybe I'm just showing my age! Thank you, we will defo be back

The 3 of us enjoyed a lovely post walk meal here (2 had lamb, and I had the sausage swirl). Glad we booked in advance because as it turned out they had weddings on consecutive days over the weekend and were very busy. Allowing for the staff being rushed off their feet, they were always courteous and timely with the meals ordered.Would definitely dine here again when next in the area, and was informed it was also excellent as a wedding venue.

We had a few drinks then a meal after a long walk. The staff were all lovely and the service excellent. The menu sounded lovely and the food was all presented well but some of it wasn’t as good as it looked. The fish and chips were good, the oyster starter was average , the chicken livers tasted burnt which overawed the flavour and the ploughman’s platter was average.

Visited because we believed it had a good reputation. It was bank holiday Monday late afternoon and wasn’t particularly busy. We arrived 30 minutes late which i called ahead to let them know .We ordered within ten minutes of arriving and food arrived around 40 minutes later. My wife ordered beef and ale pie which was average. The chips appeared reheated and were hard. I ordered a burger - the worst burger I’ve ever had. It was devoid of any moisture whatsoever and the bun was burnt. The table next to us commented that we should have been given a chisel! I sent it back and was told I’d have a new meal within 5 minutes. After 20 minutes we had to leave without the food having arrived. The manager was good enough to not charge us for the burger. We got a further 15% off the bill but only because I commented on how poor the food had been. AWFUL. Will not be going back.

I and my partner attended a wedding there. Now, you might expect that a place offering their site as a wedding venue might be well prepared for the event. Not so. 90-odd guests sat down for a meal at 16:30 and were served a passable starter. An hour later, after a random clearance of tables, the main course arrived. Cold. We had a beef dinner and the meat was lukewarm. The accompanying Yorkshire pud was burnt and cold. I mean, it was black, as were all the other puds around the room, incidentally all of which went back to the kitchen when the 'meal' was finished. A tiny dish of veg was delivered to be shared among 10 guests, so you were lucky to get any at all when it got full circle. One tough roast potato each on the cold plate. Pathetic.

This restaurant is in a good location, but we were very disappointed with the food. We went for the 'beat the clock' deal which means between 5.30 and 7 you pay that price for the meal e.g. if you arrive at 6 you pay £6 - for certain selected dishes. We both went for the Moules Mariniere - but the portions were starter sized, about a third of what you would expect! So it wasn't a good deal at all! It was also advertised as being served with crusty bread - which actually turned out to be a slice of something that was chargrilled and tasted burnt. The fries did not seem to have any potato in them, they had been cooked so much - a bit like the crunchy ones you leave at the end...but they were all like that! We then ordered a pudding - the chocolate brownie, which was actually very good. As the main portions were so small we also ordered cheese and biscuits - but half the crackers were stale and the green grapes were brown and soggy - like the ones you would normally chuck out - and accompanied by quite boring cheeses. I find it remarkable that the kitchen find it acceptable to produce food like his, frankly. We will not be back, which is a shame as it is a nice building and the service was decent.

Attended a wedding. Setting was pleasant enough. The meal was nothing special, 2 tiny slices of pork. Dessert was nice, but again tiny. My creme brûlée was half the depth of any other I’ve ever had. The room was expensive for what we got. Limited bathroom toiletries and our door shook every time someone came through the fire door at the top of the stairs. Breakfast - side plates, but no toast offered to us or other guests. ‘Full’ English Breakfast - Menu stated black pudding and fresh plum tomatoes, we didn’t get them!! Even the groom complained there was no black pudding. I highlighted these issues on checking out and was asked why we didn’t ask too!! I expected some token gesture of goodwill. No, just a shrug of shoulders and charged full rate. Will I be returning, no. Would I recommend the Shireburn Arms, Definitely Not!

When visiting the Shireburn Arms my husband wasn't too hungry and settled for the soup. I was a bit peckish so ordered the fish platter. There was a mini fish and chips with tartar sauce, some smoked salmon (a fair amount actually), some prawns with rose marie sauce, and some mussels in garlic cream sauce. There was also some crispy bread.

My wife and I came here two days ago for a few drinks and an evening meal. The staff were very friendly and attentive, beers were kept well and the building is really nice. There’s a huge games room downstairs that you could easily miss and the decor around the building is professional and rustic/antique looking which is great for a countryside place. We both ordered scallops for starter which were very good and both had the beef pie - the pasty was fantastic and the chips were almost like roast potatoes and really great. I would agree with some other posts that the gravy that the beef was cooked in was a little too salty, but once you have your mushy peas and chips it’s not something that would spoil your meal. Would come back regularly if we lived local.

We called for lunch after playing golf at Stonyhurst Park. I ordered the fish pie, and it came quite quickly, actually before one of my mates had even got round to ordering his food! There was a good portion of fish - salmon and cod I think - in the fish pie, with a sizeable portion of mash on top, and peas served within the pie.

We went to the Shireburn Arms after many great reviews, however we found it very underwhelming. The table was very sticky and menus grubby. Specials menu was Thai noodle soup followed by Thai coconut curry or stuffed chicken with seasonal vegetables and new potatoes. I ordered the devilled chicken livers and cod with clam chowder. Chicken livers were bland with no presence of warmth from chilli, they had a burnt oil flavour clearly showing an overheated pan in the kitchen. Cod fish was very good, well seasoned and the cod was beautifully roasted. I had to ask for the bread as that didn't arrive as well as a spoon for the chowder. My wife ordered ham hock terrine, which was good, a little lacking on Piccadilly. Then a chicken burger, which can only be described as being out of a truckers cafe, massive portion, very greasy chips and undercooked greasy onion rings, dry chicken with very sloppy burger garnishes.

Came here last night with our youngest. I only wanted a couple of light dishes so ordered 2 starters, I had ham hock then tempura pork with chilli jam, both dishes were tasty and just enough for me. My other half had scallops then rump steak which he enjoyed equally. Our lass had prawn & smoked salmon salad (she said the prawns tasted like the ones you get from the supermarket) but the salmon was lovely, she had the hotpot for her main & chocolate brownie for pud (all devoured & enjoyed).

We went here for Sunday lunch and found it very disappointing, I had a Barnsley chop which was just ok, my wife had roast beef which was tough, the roast potatoes were dry with thick skins, it all felt like it had been warmed up in the microwave, the gravy was thick and congealed. For these sort of prices a very poor meal and they should know better.

My partner and I were given two gift cards for James places as wedding presents and looked forward to our meal The venue was nice and the staff were friendly enough. Service was slow due to a wedding in the back room and we had to cancel coffee because staff could not get any while the wedding speeches were on. Our starters were nice. Chicken Livers and salt and pepper squid the later was a bit cold. The steaks were small and over cooked for medium but tasty. It would have been nice to have been offered a steak knife The puddings propabley the best bit Bailey's and Chocolate pot and Peach Tartin. The menu was original and creative. The real rub was when the bill came and we were told we could only use one of the gift cards because the tills can not cope with two. This ruined our meal as we were made to feel we were after a free meal or trying it on. James Place website claims that their gift cards are the same as cash and this is the same as money. However although they already had payment they are putting conditions on how you spend it. It's not a promotion and this policy is clearly a way to extract more money.i did suggest we could split the bill and pay separately but that seemed pedantic so I just paid I am a big fan and regular user of this chain but for me this experience was soured and I would never buy a James Place gift card as too many conditions. It's very rare I don't leave at least 10% to 15% tip but based on my experience that day I felt I it would not be right.

No plans for the day so decided on a drive through Ribble Valley. Passed the Shireburn Arms and was familiar with the name as part of the Group in Clitheroe and Kirby Lonsdale so decided to drive back and try to get some food and drinks with the dog. Very weird ambiance to the pub, too fragmented with random tables awkwardly placed, literally shoved into corners. Food was ok, service was nice and relaxed. Presented with knife and fork after starter arrived, and main course knife was dirty. The positive points to our visit was it was only about £35 for food and 2 pints and dog friendly.

It could and should have been so much better. Our family had a mixture of steak and fish pies which were fine but what really let this place down were the chips. The smallest portion of chips we’ve ever seen - about eight small, sad offerings in a small container. I immediately asked for more and the waiter came back with five chips more. We don’t really like being insulted when we go out for a meal but this was a definite and rude insult. My wife then asked for more chips and was duly obliged. How many more pennies would it have cost to provide an adequate portion of the cheapest thing on the plate in the first place? Also the portion of mushy peas was derisory but we didn’t feel able to complain further. Next time we’ll vote with our feet.

Walked in after a 4 hour drive today, didn't know the place, never seen it before and just wanted a drink before driving again. The woman at the bar was super unhelpful and scowled at me the whole way through me ordering our drinks, for £16.40 for two pints i would have expected at least friendly service. I get it I was not in suit but does that deserve to be scowled at and made to feel super unwelcome. We finished our drinks and got the hell out of there as quick as we could. Will never return and have already told my wealthier friends and family not to attend this place

A great place we stumbled on after the fireworks at the castle. The reedley hallows beer went down very very well. We had a nibbles selection amazing value at 4 small plates for £20. I had lamb rump for main and my wife had ahicken Kiev which she thoroughly enjoyed. No room for a pud, hopefully next time. Very attentive service, great food and reasonably priced. Will defo return very soon.

We had a pleasant lunch at The Btown Cow. The dining room was pleasant if a little dark, however its an old building so that's OK. Very pleasant young waiter. The menu is quite big and it's very varied, something for everyone. I had vegetarian Toad In The Hole, excellent , well presented and delicious. Husband chose the open beef sandwich, which unfortunately wasn't as good. The baguette was tough and the steak was "not the best". Our coffee at the end of the meal was really just froth!! However, it was clean and comfortable, a very pleasant young waiter and the loos were spotless.
