Maxwell's in Ribble Valley

Our second visit in two weeks, purely as Maxwells has a fabulous vegan menu. We ordered a beetroot falafel salad to share to start, then a chip shop bites and chips and vegan katsu curry for mains. The food was excellent, absolutely loved the chip shop bites, hope they never take these off the menu. Service was brilliant, lovely friendly staff looking after us, there was nothing to complain about, we loved it. Will definitely revisit as I rather fancy the hash browns and nachos next.

As always, a great lunch with super choice and good vegan options. The scampi butty was sublime and the onion bhaji baguette and the steak melt were amazing too! Prompt and polite service and a great buzz about the place. See you again soon!

Called in, first of all to shelter from heavy rain. Staff were very welcoming. We ordered both alcoholic and non- alcoholic drinks which were quickly delivered to our table. Stayed for about an hour with a few more drinks. This place was a haven - we were happy to leave a good tip

Visited on a very busy Saturday but still got a table. The food and drink were brilliant and the staff were, as usual, friendly and helpful.

We visited today for a hen party of mixed ages, family and friends. The hot buffet was delicious and plentiful, doggy bags were required. Staff were very helpful and pleasant. We had a lovely afternoon. Thank you.

The worst customer service I've ever experienced, ordered the pasta with my partner, when they arrived my partners had sauce and mine was dry after speaking to the Manageress she explained it wasn't possible to remedy this, as everything was cooked fresh, after a discussion about the obvious difference with both dishes she reluctantly took the dish away for it to be brought back 2minutes later covered in cream..not the sauce it should have had, when questioned she was rude and offered no other solution the dish sat on the table until we left, after years in the catering trade myself I was appalled that this was acceptable service for what was once a fabulous restaurant, such a shame, we won't be going back until its under new management !

Awful attitude of duty Manager. We ordered two identical pasta dishes. One perfect the other dry as a bone. We called over the Manager who could clearly see the difference between the dishes. She said she didn't know what to do, as they couldnt just make the sauce and would have to remake the dish from scratch. She didn't want to return the dish to the kitchen. But in a huff she reluctantly did. 2 minutes later she returned with a dish swimming in sauce. The kitchen had obviously just added lots of cream and diluted the sauce that just now tasted of cream. I explained to the manager that the dish was still terrible and now just tasted of cream. She argued and argued offering no apology or solution. She didn't offer a bill reduction, or anything in way of customer service. In the end I had to refuse to pay for the dish. She just scowelled at us from that point from across the restaurant. Very unprofessional. What a shame, we used to love it here.

Booked a table for 6 as we regularly dine here. We have noticed the food quality is under performing where chips came out soggy, butterfly chicken was a heavily fried chicken burger that was hard and tough to eat with no flavour. Small portions and having to ask for items that we are normally asked if we wanted when the food comes out. The price does not reflect the quality no more and the menu has changed removing good dishes

We called in for breakfast, at last someone who can poach an egg! We really enjoyed our meal and the coffee was lovely. Staff a friendly and the prices reasonable.

terrible place came in sat down up stairs i went to bar this ignorant staff member looked mw up and down and said it would s table service.. we got our order in quickly after 10 minutes she came for payment and 25 minutes later no drinks.. we called a girl over her attitude was rude and horrible and we waited 40 minute in total when though the staff member argued with us saying it was not that long. don't go

Called in for a coffee and ordered a toasted teacake and English muffin. Drinks delivered about 5mins later and 10mind after that thr teacake and muffin, should come together however both the teacake and muffin were barely warm, obviously Bern on a plate awaiting being taken to our table for a while. When I caught the attention of a staff member to state that they were cold she touched them and then said I will get you some more straight away. No offer of another hot drink as we had finished them 10 minutes later I wrnt to the counter and cancelled them, I wad told they won't be long, explained that I wanted them with my drink. Again no offer of another drink and no proper apology. Very poor service

As they have few late nights it clearly focuses more on the cafe set up. We turned up around 4pm on a glorious Sunday afternoon and enjoyed the roof top terrace close to the station (handy to see our train pull in). Good choice of drinks. We kept it simple with a draft Moretti and NZ Sauvignon Blanc. Food choice was good and we had a chicken Diane and Chinese chicken kebabs, the latter served on a flatbread with spring onion, chilli and hoisin with fries. Food was OK. Not amazing taste but nice. Good service.

Visited Maxwells the night before Lancashire went into Tier 3 lockdown and it was very quiet and I hope people support businesses so they survive so we can revisit when this is all over. The Covid precautions are top notch, you queue outside, track and trace and sanitiser at the front door, staff wear masks or visors. I also saw one waiter giving menus a thorough clean between customers, as we sat at our well spaced table. You feel very safe at Maxwells.We shared nachos and black olives to start, I would have struggled to eat the nachos on my own, as it was a substantial portion so good value for money. The nachos were as good as you get, the cheese was perfectly melted, with a delicious tomato salsa and creamy guacamole, we loved them.I would not normally order a mushroom burger, as I think its a bit of a cop out, but decided to give it a go and hubby ordered Bang Bang penne. The burger was absolutely scrumptious on a soft brioche bun, with plenty pesto and cheese, served with crisp fries and mayo. Hubby loved the spiciness of his pasta dish, it was a good sized portion, in a creamy sriracha sauce, with extra sriracha drizzled over the top.I researched the wine list prior to our visit and found lots of vegan friendly wines, but what a shame they do not label these, would make life so much easier. I chose a bottle of Les Chiens Catalans Blanc, a lovely crisp fruity wine.The vegan menu has a good selection of dishes and I think it is a great move to put clear allergen information labelling on, making it easier to make choices.We will definitely revisit, as we want to try other vegan options, maybe next time missing out on a starter and trying the desserts.

I would have preferred to mark 3.5 but the system does not allow. Visited Maxwells after requesting their vegan menu and its allergen information prior to visiting. Sat outside on a lovely sunny Friday afternoon. Covid procedures in place are excellent, staff wearing visors, proper queuing system, table service, sanitiser available, cleaning down of tables in between customers, track and trace details taken (unlike one place we visited on the same afternoon who took no details at all). The vegan menu has a good selection of dishes although I missed the desserts which are on the opposite side of the menu although we never got asked if we wanted desserts. I ordered the mushroom burger with pesto, cheese, fries & salad. I was expecting a big juicy portobello mushroom oozing with pesto and cheese. Sadly it was slices of dryish mushroom and it was hunt the pesto & cheese and the lettuce & one slice of tomato I presume must have been the salad!! The pretzel bun was fabulous though, wish I could buy these. The saving grace was the fries, they were delicious, but for a vegan burger it was pretty boring. My husband had the Thai green curry which he said was nice. Service at the beginning when we arrived was a little hit and miss, several tables of diners who arrived after us and who ordered drinks after us were served first.I left the mayo that came with the burger, thinking it was not suitable, however I asked a waitress (I think she may be the Manager) and she brought the vegan mayo bottle to the table for me to check. I was ecstatic to find it contained neither soya or mustard and I could have eaten it, so she kindly gave me a small pot to take home. I have since found the vegan mayo online and will purchase some. The lady waitress made up for the earlier poor service as she was very friendly and helpful. If Maxwells offered a BIG portion of the seasoned fries and the vegan mayo, I would quite happily munch on them all afternoon with a few drinks.I like Maxwells, I like the outdoor space (you can also sit on the outside terrace upstairs during good weather) but on this occasion the food for me was a let down.

Decided to treat ourselves for breakfast. Cleanliness was, excellent, staff kept hand gelling their hands, wore visers or masks . Breakfast was brilliant no complaints at all. Definitely recommended is full English.

Booked and went on new years eve, the place was very busy, (didn't expect anything less).I ordered a lite bite, lemon chicken goujons, have to say it was really lite, tiny bit of salad, 3 smallish goujons and a tiny dip. I even had to have a pudding!!! very unusual, but, it was a lite bite!! But for a fiver?? bit over the top! The better half had a burger and asked for chunky chips, they were not bigger than you would get in McDs or (other cheap fast food outlets), so, what the normal chips looked like was any one's guess. We were with another couple, and none of them finished the meal because they were not impressed. Will not rush back!

Started our day/evening in this venue for a drink. One glass of wine and a beer £10.05. I don't mind paying over the odds when the venue warrants it, but this place is looking rather jaded. Where I sat the blinds on the windows were dropping to bits and we could not close them as the late afternoon son was shining in the eyes of guests. The wine was served in a glass with finger marks all over it. Have to say though the place was packed, feels more like a café than a bar and perhaps it reflected in the time I visited which was the afternoon. Did not eat. think the place needs a refresh and some staff serving who don't looked shocked when a southern comfort and lemonade was asked for and has to ask another member of staff to assist.

This was our first visit to Clitheroe and we were getting a little desperate for a bite to eat.Once we spied a cafe wine bar sign and it looked busy we thought that it must be o.k.We were not disappointed, the waiter was first class, the food tasty and well presented and very reasonably priced.We chatted to some locals, who came regularly and said that it was always very busy. When we are in the area again, we will definitely visit again. One to recommend.

I had chicken strips with salad and fries, the chicken strips were absolutely horrid, you could tell they had been over deep fat fried and the chicken was like dried rubbery leather. I tried this place about 12 months ago and wasn’t impressed, when my pal suggested it today , I thought ok, bad mistake , won’t be going back again to eat.

We've been going to Maxwells', ever since it opened and have continued touse it, everytime we visit the area. The staff are helpful, friendly and fun, when you become a regular face and interact with them, especially Phil, he's full of stories and very helpful.The food menu is superb - caters for all diets, carniverous ones, vegans and vegetarians - always will adjust a dish, if they can. Very good value for money and worth the waiting time, when busy, as everything is freshly prepared. Late nights on Friday and Saturday - their fish and chips are yummy!!! Convenient for the station, bus station and easy access to and from the town centre. Only criticism, unfortunatley, is the lack of parking but there is a long term car park across the road, clsoe to the station.

I last reviewed this place a couple if years ago and it hasn't changed much. It's ok,not brilliant but average food. The atmosphere is a bit flat. I think there are better venues locally. I think maybe the staff could be a bit more personable, that said the lady in charge and the blond waitress are lovely.

Called in today (6th November 2019), looking for a pick me up as it was a drab and wet day.Upon entering no staff evident except those behind the bar. “Take a seat we will be over to take your order”. Which they were and take our order they did. Unfortunately they failed to clean the table - so we did that ourselves.Nachos, followed by steak fajita my wife had soup and sandwich. Nachos had to much cheese and were overheated - nachos should be crisp with melted cheese over. These were soft due to much cheese being excessively overheated - I have to say Maxwells are not alone in this wrong presentation. Steak fajitas were good but the fajita wraps were far to big for the content, but the steak was good as was the accompanying dressings. My wife’s soup broccoli and Stilton was tasty, the ham sandwich was just that a slice of ham between two thick slices of bread - no salad, no mustard no nothing.I guess that was the problem nothing was offered, no one even asked if everything was ok even when I stood at the bar and paid no one asked “was everything ok ?” So in conclusion the food was passable but the service was totally out to lunch (pardon the pun) but all four ladies just stood and talked to one another all the time we were there. One took our order and that was it - never came back. We were served by some guy who appeared to be the chef, infact he appeared to serve all the other diners whilst the four ladies still stood at the bar drinking coffee.We regularly visit Clitheroe and this is our first visit to Maxwells it will be a long time before we return.Think twice
