The Artful Grocers in Wealden

The Thai menu was fantastic; we eat at The Artful Grocers as often as possible, we love it! Menus are always interesting and the atmosphere is fun.

We’re lucky enough to live just a few minutes away from this gem of a venue and frequent it regularly. It was the perfect place for brunch between Xmas and New Year for eight of us and New Year’s Eve there was such fun. We’re back at the end of Jan for one of Ellie’s spectacular Sunday Roasts, can’t wait!

Tonight was the Late Night Christmas shopping night in Wadhurst and so my husband and I decided to wander down to see what was happening and visit some of the shops that had stayed open for the occasion. We called into the Artful Grocers to enquire about an item they did not in fact stock and whilst there had a look at their food counter which was displaying some interesting slices of quiche. Having decided on the 2 we wanted to try we asked the lady behind the counter for our purchases. We are not sure whether someone had upset her, or indeed if she did not want to be staying open on a Friday evening, but she was very offhand and in fact downright rude. She made us feel very uncomfortable as if we had done something wrong. The 2 slices of quiche came to £8 ..... we hope they are worth it!!

Quirky little place, good atmosphere and the food was lovely. However the portions were tiny, so we didn't feel that overall it was value for money and left feeling hungry.

An absolutely amazing dining experience today with the most delicious food - the roast potatoes are out of this world!! The chicken and beef were cooked to perfection with a good variety of vegetables. Dessert was fantastic too, the lemon posset was beautiful, the chocolate mousse to die for and the crumble and ice cream an absolute delight. Thank you Ellie and Anthony, see you again soon xx

With many other cafe’s in Wadhurst this place needs to be more welcoming. Surly Barista as the first ‘moment of truth’ from a service experience made for a feeling of being unwelcome. Not a single smile on offer.

Very impressed …yummy food..really good ambience…recommend highly …. But have to book as busy ….. its is only open Fridays and Saturdays

Such a special place, we visited again last week for the evening set menu, a very interesting Savory Pavlova followed by wonderful Lamb, all was excellent including the choice of wines. Incredible value for money

Another good experience at this wonderful concept of a restaurant in Wadhurst. Set in a genuine grocers come deli by day it turns into their pop up style restaurant at night where for £25 per head you get a set 3 course meal of interesting and different dishes featuring a different Meat each time. Last night, have to admit not my favourite due to fatty cutlets, the lamb was accompanied by a wonderful beetroot and kiwi couscous salad and an interesting New Zealand pear come potato type veg in a creamy sauce- not a fav by everyone on the table but it all got eaten. Starter this time was called savoury pavlova which was a curious yet delicious cream cheese and Parmesan and fruit mouthful of yummyness. Desert was Hershey Choc tort - best way to eat (imho) inferior chocolate. Hokey pokey was promised but only delivered three little pearls of sweet sticky bits. Also a small jug of cream on the table would have helped the cloying Choc y mouthful go down - the coffee (extra charge as were the drinks of course) was welcome to wash it all down. Looking around I caught eyes with other diners who were licking their lips and seemed to be enjoying the occasion as much as we were. Looking forward to out next booking which is in December - partridge apparently is the meat special that night. Wish them all the best with this concept and we’ll support as often as we can - it’s always been full each time we go so book early not to be disappointed. Look online and phone to book. Or go into the grocers in the day time. Lovely waitresses who describe the food and help you relax and enjoy your time there.

It’s hard to be critical of any part of this meal. It is a case of ‘you get what you are given’ with no choice on the menu but, when the quality is as high as this, then it is hard to be critical. The three course meal (£25) is exceptional value, the food is wonderfully presented and the service is spot on. The wine list and beers are also varied and very good value. Superb.

We booked up for the Kenyan Night as we have goats at home, so cooking goat is usual for us. We wanted to see goat cooked in the African style as opposed to the Indian style that we often use. It was amazing!! A feast for the eyes as well as the tastebuds. Colourful food. Such a good variety of ingredients, some of which I had never heard of - the dishes on the menu were unfamiliar, which added to the experience. It was our first evening meal at the AG and will be back really soon. The cost wasn’t silly, even the drinks were sensibly priced. Atmosphere was spot on, with music to match the food and culture. Once again we fad a fabulous evening, the food was amazing, the beef was cooked beautifully and the vegetables and salads were full of flavour. Ellie and her team could not do enough to make our evening most memorable. See you very soon D&M Turner

amazing coffee, amazing customer service and a great atmosphere that I love to visit over and over would recommend to everyone who is looking for some amazing food and drinks. I've been going there for a long time and seen it evolve into the beauty that it is. you can see the love and hard work that goes into there and its not just a cafe you can get amazing fruit and veg and many other yummy goods.

Lovely coffee and Canoli at very reasonable price and a cornucopia of a shop. Staff were welcoming and the seating comfortably spread around the shop. We'll worth stopping to explore.

This little gem has everything you need for a superb evening out. By day it is a top class greengrocer and by night it is transformed into a cool bar/restaurant with a great vibe! The quirky decor and super friendly staff only add to the whole experience. Fabulous 3 course meal for £22.50 per head and excellent wines at very reasonable prices all make for a fantastic night out. I cant wait to bring all my friends here!!!!!

We knew The Artful Grocers was an excellent Green Grocer and Cafe, so had a high set of expectations for an evening meal. We really need not have worried. Delicious food, warm friendly service and a fantastic vibe. I can’t wait to invite my friends and family to join us for a meal here.
