The Argyll Arms in City of London, Westminster

I came in on a cold night. Me and my friends just wanted to grab a drink. When we saw the small pub, we excitedly went in and struggled to find seating, as the pub is incredibly small. After we finally found some stools, we went to the bar to order our pints. We are American travelers, visiting for the week and wanted to experience the full english pub scene. When we spoke to the bartender to ask for our drinks, she rudely told us she could not accept American ID’s because they had no way of knowing if they were fake. I find this absolutely ridiculous!! They asked us for European ID, but as we are AMERICAN citizens, there is no way we would have had that. Me and my friends are all well over age. It is ridiculous to not accept American ID in this day and age. Absolutely ridiculous!! The argyle arms is not tourist friendly. Please avoid. As for the pub itself- fix your policies, as this is offensive and outdated. Your pub is in a. prominent part of London, where tourists must come in. Your actions, and your handling of my situation was absolutely disgusting.

Popped in for a drink, asked the server what the cheapest lager was then ordered a half pint. She returned a minute later apologising for giving me the wrong answer. I then ordered the cheaper lager. Excellent customer service.

Probs my best pub in this area. It has such a charm, historical and handsome. Renowned for its ales and gins, with a good selection of food and other drinks, backs off from the London palladium, 2 minutes from Oxford circus, tucked neatly on the corner from Oxford street. Friendly staff, seating inside with booths available and seating outside. Clean toilets, lovely atmosphere.

This is the second time I have been treated badly by the same girl. The first time I didn't say anything but this time she went too far, without any reason. Apart from being rude, she refused to serve me saying that she is the manager. Even if she is the manager, she needs to be regulated.

Very nice pub with original timber bar, screens and panelling. Pricey drinks though.. 1 pint of German wheat beer and a bottle of Peroni came to £14.35! But that's London for you...

Enjoyed a variety of appetizers and a pie so my sister, niece, and I could sample several pub options. Not disappointed. Server, Chris, was a standout. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal, location, service... Nice job!

This pub is close to Oxford Circus Tube station and the London Paladium. The pub was busy inside and with people sitting outside. Very good service and not over exspensive, atmosphere was ok.

With cut and etched mirrors, vibrant red Lincrusta ceiling and walls, and dazzling glazed screen work partitioning individual drinking snugs, The Argyll Arms is an exemplar of the Victorian pub. The steak and ale pie was tasty enough (indeed, award winning) but diminished somewhat by the thick crust, although an individual pitcher of gravy was a thoughtful touch. If there is a worm in the bud of this beautiful rose, it is the Nicholson’s pale ale. Like all such cask-conditioned beers, it traditionally is served at cellar temperature (55° F)—but here seems to be a few degrees warmer, which tended to flatten the taste. (At The Blackfriar, another Nicholson’s establishment, the ale is warmer still.)

I visit the pub regularly, when I am going to the London Palladium. The pub manager managed to get me a table even though the pub was very busy at 5p.m.. I had the fish plater with my sister, and it was very good. A pleasant surprise for pub food. Very friendly staff. The lighting is bit too dark for trying to read the menu's etc.

It was a pleasant experience. The room featured a beautiful Victorian interior, full of character and charm, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere—perfect for a relaxed drink or meal. We ordered the Sunday Roast, Burger, and Mac and Cheese. The food was cooked to perfection—tender, juicy, and full of flavor. I really appreciated the attention to detail, as everything was prepared exactly as requested. However, the beef could have been sliced a bit thicker for an even better texture.

Great food, great atmosphere, great decor, great staff

We had googled somewhere near the Palladium as a last minute place to eat before the Elvis Costello concert. We were very pleasantly surprised by the welcome we received. Food was lovely and when I saw how much my wife had ate I knew she had enjoyed it. Nice to sit in a old fashioned dining room. Waitress was very nice and saw to everything we needed.

The direct person or the worker will talk to you from the bottom of his mouth and give you advice

Quaint old pub....was probably a dance hall in the past...classic old Victorian era decor...have to climb stairs to Toilet....so difficult for older folk...food was excellent...good beers selection....it's quite dim in the back....use phone torch to read menu.... A MUST VISIT for visitors to Oxford Street.

Really lovely food and service. Very reasonably priced

We stopped here as it was on the way to where we were going to eat. We had a couple of Guinness each and headed onwards. All expectations met, service was excellent and my family from New York got to have a drink outdoors in the sunshine.

Anytime I find myself in london, I've got to have a steak pie. The Argyll Arms does it right. Delicious!

Charming place to have a quick pint

The food was fantastic and our server was excellent. Very attentive and friendly. My wife had the beef brisket pie and I had the lentil and vegetable pie. Both were amazing. To top it off we had the sticky toffee pudding which was out of this world. I highly recommend eating here.

We did not book but were lucky enough to get the last available one. Staff very helpful and food delicious. Will go back again

Nice pub with good atmosphere and great service.

The service was excellent. I am gluten Intolerant and Chris ensured my meal was suitable for me to eat. His service was impeccable and the location of our table was fabulous.

Early Sunday lunch time visit, fairly quiet. Shown quickly to a table, food and drink ordered and delivered promptly. Food was good, decent portions and beer kept well.

Spent the weekend in London and come across this pub looking for something to eat. Normal London prices for food and Drink. But was pleasantly surprised when the food came, it was homemade and cooked fresh. Not purchased in bulk buy & then cooked. Will definitely come again. It was lovely

Small, quiet dining room is an oasis of calm amidst the bustling Oxford Circus area. Great welcome, very obliging staff for whom nothing was too much trouble.

The food was nice but when I received the bill I couldn't understand why it was so high. Upon closer inspection I realised that we had been charged for 2 large glasses of wine. When I ordered the wine I didn't think to specify the size and unfortunately we were not asked. It should never have been presumed that we wanted large glasses, because, quite frankly, at your prices I would never have ordered large. Please ensure that staff ask what size glasses of wine customers would like.

Rude staff. Refused a pint because I'm visually impaired (I was completely sober on the day). Second time I was refused a pint because of my visual impairment. Even showed my VI card to the bouncer but no change. Did you know about the Equality Act? This is discrimination.

Stopped in for lunch and we were not disappointed. Our server upstairs was alone, but did an excellent job tending bar and serving tables. Food was excellent and drinks were great. Bartender went above and beyond, even making an entire pitcher of pomegranate tea for us. Recommend a visit!

A pub with a dining room on the first floor. The waiter was incredibly nice and helpful as I have to eat differently for health reasons. Great atmosphere, characterized by many photos and maps of the Palladium Theater. Downstairs the pub is partitioned off with etched glass panes, which creates small rooms and makes it easy to separate yourself. The food was really good, the drinks were well chilled.

Well located near Oxford Street. Perfect for a moment of relaxation from shopping. 🍺

Visiting London to see hello dolly with friends booked a table of 5 on line absolutely a brilliant pub very busy Chris our waiter was running bar taking orders running food he was brilliant friendly and fun food was very good we all had different meals and the value I including drinks was so good for London would recommend we did mention to mgr how good his member of staff was well done Chris you made our day

Always eat at the Argyll when going to the Palladium. Nice atmosphere and pleasant staff. The food is pretty good as well. Had a nice bottle of white. The wine list should cater to all tastes.

Managed to secure a table for a group of us during the England / Switzerland game during the Euros. Sophie was great in reserving the table for even though I missed the deadline to confirm. Had a great spot with a good view of the screen. Drinks were good and service was great. Bar snacks were great too!

We had a lovley experience in this little place. We had a table booked before going to Hyde park and sat upstairs in the restaurant and had the window seat over looking the street. Anya our waitress was amazing they forgot one stater but gave us complementary prosseco. Good choice of food on the menu. Our food was excellent will be going back soon

Everytime we our in London we come here for a drink, it's a very old pub and different from other places,the ceiling is pretty amazing,not tried the food yet nut will do on our next visit

Was told that we could sit both upstairs and downstairs. Took our beers upstairs and sat us at a table by the window. A waiter with piercings asked if we wanted any food. We refused. Then we didn't have to sit there. We had to go down, drink beer and leave 🤬Definitely won't be coming back

Fantastic food, excellent service and a lovely pub!, had the steak and ale pie and the chargrilled chicken and chorizo both were perfect!, puddings were apple and blackberry crumble and caramel biscuit torte both were excellent too!, cannot recommend this pub high enough!

We booked months ago, but didn’t check about disabled access as didn’t realise restaurant was upstairs. However, the team immediately resolved this by placing us downstairs and still giving us table service. We were treated with the utmost respect and the food was delicious

I organised a reunion at the Argyll Arms recently for some old work colleagues. The whole experience from start to finish was fantastic from the lovely Sophie organising the space for us to her colleague Josh on the evening looking after us. It's a cracking pub in the perfect location with a fine selection of beverages and such friendly bar staff. Thanks so much to all the Argyll Arms team for helping to make our evening so wonderful and memorable.

Lovely pub. Good beer. We drank London Pride and it seemed good. Didn't try the food but I expect it would be standard Wetherspoon's. It was a Thursday mid-evening and the pub was heaving. No seats or tables available on the ground floor. There were dozens of empty seats around tables on the first floor eating area, but you couldn't sit there unless you were going to order food. If there are regularly this many seats free upstairs I suggest they create a drinking area there.

I had a reason to go in Japan 80"s band had a pic taken upstairs and I was there for that and the bar staff obliged but I waited for lunch after being told to find a table 15 minutes no service But I did what I came for

Food was great and the service was exceptional. Drinks were pricey but they always are in Nicholson's pubs.

Careful, professional thiefs operate here. The management don't value their customers enough to employ dootstaff at peak times to deter them. Make sure you bag is stapled to your body.

Found by chance on visit to Palladium. Lovely grade 11 listed building oozing character and history, relaxed atmosphere with friendly, cheerful and helpful bar staff. Young lad serving in restaurant was excellent, very attentive, helpful, calm and great service. Good pub grub, good value, great location for various theatres, Oxford St, Regent St and various tube stations. Will definetely return on next trip

Still a very busy pub with a very high standard

Have eaten at the Argyll Arms several times before and the service has always been very good. Unfortunately, this time was not good. We ordered our starter and main courses and just when we were expecting our starters to arrive, we were told that due to a mix up, our main courses were ready first. We declined the somewhat strange offer of having our starter afterwards and proceeded to eat our main course. In fairness, the staff were very apologetic and polite and I was happy to accept that we all make mistakes. I wasn't so happy to notice later however that we had been billed a service charge. I do feel the experience was was well below our expectations.
