The Archduke in Lambeth

Unfortunately the steak was very small and not medium but well done… The atmosphere in the restaurant is very nice!

Drinks were reasonably priced for central London but sadly the service was slow and both of us have not been well since our meal (both had burgers) which were dry and both only ate a small amount. Starters were nice though.

I’ve brought my family here a few times when they’ve visited London, and it’s always a wonderful experience. The food is excellent, the staff are incredibly welcoming, and the live jazz creates the perfect atmosphere.

Great food & value (we chose from the 'Prix Fixe' option). Service & ambience was just super. We were allocated the seating area we had requested, (one of the booths upstairs) which was more intimate and quiet for our small group to chat amongst ourselves.

The steak was tasty, but the portion size was quite small for the price. I had the classic steak and frites. The service was fast, and the ambiance was enjoyable, especially with live jazz music playing in the background.

Another excellent meal before RFH rehearsal and concert.

My first visit here, and the service was very good. We were met at the door by a smiley lady and the staff that served us which was 3 different people were all polite and happy. Food was really good too, two of us had steaks which were perfectly cooked to what we asked for. Lots of mushrooms which was really nice. All very tasty, and the wine was good too. Another person in our group had the hamburger with bacon which again was a tasty plate. The chicken wings that came as a starter were not so good, a little over done. That is the only negative. All in all, I would go back again.

The food was very good and plentiful, cooked exactly how we wanted. It was busy and as a result rather noisy but service was good and very friendly. We had mentioned that we were going on to a concert and as a result we were served in a timely manner though didn't feel as though we were being rushed.

A great night out as always, generous and delicious starters. Steak frites done perfectly across the range. Lovely ambience and service. At the end of the meal the attentive waitress told us that the manager was very appreciative of us regulars having a WhatsApp group called the Archdukers to stay in touch and organise our visits. Temporary roadworks outside the venue made it interesting to get to the front door. Persevere, it's more than worth it. A perfect experience ❤️

Fantastic service and great steaks, waiting staff very attentive, great evening was had by all.

Great location. Arrived 20 mins early but greeted warmly and taken to the table. Main area where live jazz played is lively but there are many nooks and crannies for quieter conversation. Menu has plenty of choice and the pre 7pm fixed price is worth doing. We had the bangers and mash and steak frites which were delicious. Would recommend and can't wait to go back.

I would like to thank the whole team at The Archduke for being such a positive aspect of our West End experience. We chose to have pre-theatre lunch at The Archduke as we had purchased tickets for Mean Girls at The Savoy. Both myself and friend travel in to London into Waterloo/Waterloo East. Owing to Rail Replacement Services from Kent, my friend could only get into London for 1.15pm. I booked a table for 1pm and arrived at the appointed time. I explained my friend's challenge to the staff who were very happy to help. They took our order (my friend had selected from the menu online) and asked the kitchen staff to prepare it to be delivered for 1.30pm. My daughter was already a bit hungry but the mezze platter was too big/expensive so the front of house manager offered a smaller hummus and pitta bread as an appetiser which was a perfect compromise! Whilst we waited for my friend and daughter, the kind piano player offered 2 French children to show their abilities and they were very good! I bet that made their day too. The food was beautiful and piping hot. It made for a very pleasant start to our London experience. After the show (which was also awesome btw!) my daughter and I returned to meet with 2 old work colleagues of mine. The staff welcomed my daughter and I like we were old returning friends which was lovely :) Can't fault the team at all. Note: Try not to be seated in the back conservatory area as the generator is quite loud and it's a known issue.

I go out of my way to visit this place. They have the best sausage and mash and green beans ever!

We have eaten here twice in 2024. Both times were very enjoyable. We had the set pre show dinner which was lovely. Service was friendly, setting was great, food was tasty. Would go again

Such a fun find! We were starving after a morning of sight seeing and found this superb place! Great service and excellent food! Definitely get the artichoke dip! And the blood orange sorbet is fantastic!

Good value and great ambience under the railway arches!

Great jazz group, very talented, but the food is not worth it. The meat was cold and overcooked. Nothing crazy. Ate at Côte the night before and it was much better. Also, if you want to see the music, ask for a table with the music; otherwise, you risk being at a table in a corner with no view of the live performance (a wall and a floor stand in between). Also it was for a birthday and they made no effort, someone had to ask for one small candle on the tiny piece of cake and they just handed it over. Very disappointing.

We were looked after from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. What a gem of a place. Food was amazing, staff friendly, knowledgeable and understanding of our coeliac needs. Wonderful and we’ll be back m.

It Sasha me that diners are not asked to keep their conversations to a minimum whilst the musicians are performing. This is norm at Pizza Express Live and other similar venues.

Our booth for 6 was very cramped indeed. Food was well prepared but no "wow" moments. Service was not at all attentive and in the end we had to skip coffee.

Great place for a lunch date. Varied menu suitable for all. Lovely staff giving good service. Steak with steak frites perfectly cooked. Good choice of wine. There is al a carte or table d'hôte at lunch time. Easy to chat even with a few trains rumbling overhead.

A lovely place for atmosphere and drinks! The layout and decor are fantastic, it add to the vibrancy.

So you arrive at Waterloo Station and decide to walk to The South Bank 'cos, you know, it's cool and pretty and photogenic. And in doing so you walk straight past The Archduke and not even notice. Eateries in London seem to be divided in to two styles - cheap but fast, or pricey and relaxed. It's quite hard to find that middle ground, that great place where you can meet up with a bunch of people you used to work with 35 years ago... Well, me and my old early 90s Chessington World of Adventures mates have been meeting sporadically at The Archduke for the last 10 years or so. They probably haven't noticed us particularly, but we always have a lovely time. Friendly and accommodating staff, stylish but unfussy decor, great cocktails, comprehensive wine/beer list, varied menu for snacks, light lunch or proper dinner. It's somewhere in London that you can easily enjoy a 4 hour catch up with old pals without feeling the need to hurry up and vacate the table for the next sitting.

We had a very nice welcome at the door and were shown to our table. There is a very good selection of drinks and these were nicely and swiftly served. The food was outstanding and we felt the chef had really tried hard. The two waiting staff were both excellent.

The lady singing as she played the piano was good, if quite loud, and the upstairs - while cosy - was so dark, I could hardly see what I was eating. It's funny one of the survey questions always asks whether I consider it a romantic spot - perhaps that's the reason for the low lighting? I dunno about romance, though - never mind whispering sweet nothings, you'd have to yell over that din! Seeing the same waiter approaching that had served me the last two times, I decided I could do without soup - both times, I asked her what it was, both times she said mushroom and I said I'd have it, and both times she had to come back and tell me no, it was something else: which I didn't like. But I had my usual wine and my usual bourgignon - and it was delicious, and so comforting. Sensibly, the lady clearing my table brought me the dessert menu without having to be asked, and was back in five minutes to take my order! And so it was that I had time for an ice cream sundae, and left well satisfied.

Lovely venue, close to Waterloo and the Southbank; the brickwork of the arches creates a great atmosphere. Prix Fixe menu is good VFM. Live piano playing too

Friendly welcome. Great atmosphere, moderately busy but our group could easily hear each other speaking. Fast and very friendly service. Food was outstanding and good value for money. Good choice of reasonably priced drinks. All staff members we spoke to were helpful and seemed genuinely cheerful. A great night out and will definitely return.

Fillet cut was not tender-was medium rare but was very chewy and gristly. I would have complained but was enjoying the rest of the dining experience so opted not to. Also this is the first time I’ve had such a negative food experience at Archduke

I am back dear followers! One artist, one objective and one love: enjoying memorable experiences around the jaw dropping Central London! Do you wonder where to go when fancying a posh British style dinner inda City, perhaps with your date?? Well, try this place but be careful with it. First of all, watch out for the host Katy. She looks so pretty and pleasant that you couldn’t see her mean manners coming. She brought me to a little table placed exactly in the middle of the restaurant, which was quite empty considering that was quite early (around 5 pm). Asking to move to the side due to my shyness she went quite nuts, saying that yes, a table was available but just until 7:30 pm. Thinking that more than 2 hour eating are enough, I decided to accept the mean offer of the scary host. Going ahead, I dared to order a classic burger with bacon with her. Looking at me with angry eyes, she asked me if I wanted it “just” with bacon. Well, I thought, do they offer just a bun and a slice of bacon in the menu in this place? Quite odd but brilliant, I thought. Having a look to the menu, I pointed the cheese burger with bacon. Wrong move. The host got really mad saying that that one was another burger. ‘That is fine,’ I replied shaking, ‘I’ll have it’. The burger was delivered quite quickly. It was okay. The atmosphere is quite romantic and the design of this place is absolutely lovely. Also, if you do not pay too much attention to the terrible sound made by the train up there it is also quite pleasant to dine! You will be deciding if you would come back…or not! All we had was a carafe of red a d a sharing board, but the cheese and spinach artichoke dip left such an impression on me. I needed the recipe, and the waiter actually got it for me! I've been making it all year!

Everyone was very lovely and attentive. Food was delicious (especially the dessert!). The restaurant was so easy to get to. Would recommend for a nice dinner out in London.

The Archduke's set menu was ideal for a quick lunch which had to fit in with other commitments on the South Bank. A nice quiet relaxed atmosphere downstairs, good food, a very friendly welcome and efficient service.

We had an excellent meal, simple salads but good portions and very tasty. Food and drinks arrived quickly and service was attentive and without pressure.

Problems at the Archduke meant that we went up the road to the Black and Blue. Service and food were fine and similar standard to what we were were used to at the Archduke.

We ordered and were then told that there was no power in the kichen so we had to leave. The manager offered a table at the Waterloo branch but I don’t like it there so we went elsewhere. Such a shame as I was looking forward to it.

This a great find! We loved everything about it: the ambiance, the food, the service. We were seated on the mezzanine and it was great to have a high view of London and hearing the trains running just above us! I liked the brick roofs and walls. The service was prompt and friendly. The prix fixe menu is excellent for pre theatre dining before a show at the festival hall. Steak was perfectly done and very tasty, crispy frites and delicious Bearnaise. The negroni was good too! Waiting staff were lovely - smiley and attentive - we did not have to wait for service, which was fantastic as we had a limited time. Definitely recommend!

We had a lovely lunch here. Had to move to a different table due to the unbearable noise from the freezer!!!! However, the staff were very amenable and made sure we were happy. Food and service was great! Food prices much the same as anywhere else in London these days. We were not rushed through our meal at all so we’re able to do what 4 girlfriends who haven’t seen each other in a while, do best!!!! - chat, chat, chat and laugh!!! Thanks Archduke! We will return!

Hit and miss. Our family all ordered fillet steak. My steak was very fatty, which given it was 6oz meant I didn’t eat quite a lot of it. I’ve never had a fatty fillet like that before at any other steak restaurant. The other steaks didn’t seem to have this issue. I feel like there’s a lack of quality control in the kitchen. Disappointing given the cost. Everything else about the evening was good but not spectacular. We will try somewhere else next time.

The Archduke is becoming a bit of an institution. Good value food (for central London), friendly service and a quirky atmosphere. It's perfect for a pre-theatre meal or dinner with live jazz later in the evening. The only downside is the noise of the ventilation upstairs. It's louder than the trains rumbling on the tracks above, and is far less atmospheric.

Overall a good experience. Service was great. The ambience was good. The food quality & presentation were all pleasing. Only we found that the steak did not meet our expectations as it was tough & the quality of the meat not great.

Your air conditioning unit made it almost impossible to have a conversation in the conservatory at the back of the restaurant. Even hearing the staff was hard. Front area seemed much better.

I regularly eat here with friends. It is super reliable & always consistent in terms of good food & service. We had a lovely lunch again. Couldn’t fault it.

An amazing birthday dinner! We had the set menu with starters and mains and both were delicious! Portion sizes and value for money were excellent. The atmosphere was great with live music playing but it wasn't too loud upstairs so we could still have a conversation. Table by the window was lovely as we could see all the lights outside and it was cool hearing trains go over above. Staff were excellent and really attentive, they really made our evening. I was on my own and had an hour to spare before catching a train. I was made to feel extremely welcome and given a table which did not make me feel awkward being in my own. I had Beef Bourguignon which was one of the most delicious I have ever tasted. I will certainly return
