The Archduke in Lambeth

Consistently good food and service. They often have live music which can be a good or a bad thing depending who you're with and why. So best to call and check before you go.

First time visiting, and overall, the atmosphere was pleasant. We came on a Wednesday, so there was no jazz, but the food quality was excellent. However, the service was very slow. We were informed they were short-staffed, which was understandable, as they were doing their best to accommodate all tables. Air circulation is not great near the arch windows facing the pavements.

At last found somewhere great to eat pre concert at Southbank. Good menu, well presented quality good and great friendly service from professional staff. Nice atmosphere and plan to return soon for some live jazz . Really good find.

Absolutely awful. Ordered a vegan burger, received a feta salad. Having returned that, was given a sloppy veg patty in a bun with a few fries. The waitress didn't bring the ketchup I asked for and the burger was absolutely atrocious for the price. Most of the other food in our party was halfway decent, but I'd be ashamed to charge £20 for that pitiful excuse for a burger.

My tip: book it when there's life music!

Estuvimos aquí el sábado para una reunión de chicas. ¿No lo habíamos estado por tal vez 8 años? Solíamos ser habituales, días de semana para el menú pre-teatro. Me hice vegano alrededor de 2015 y no encontré muchas opciones veganas, pero la comida vegana del sábado fue maravillosa, a pesar de que en verdad pedí que una comida vegetariana se hiciera vegana para mí, ya que realmente no quería comer una hamburguesa. No hay mucha elección, pero lo que elegí fue soberbio interior. Mis amigos que no tenían mis requisitos dietéticos estaban ampliamente satisfechos con sus opciones. Debo encomiar el servicio que uno de los miembros de nuestro grupo que llegó en una silla motorizada para discapacitados, recibió también del gerente y del personal. Apoyar a nuestro amigo significa mucho para todos nosotros. Gracias.

Amazing food, incredible burger - the most tender succulent meat! And my friend said the steak was perfect too. Tastiest fries I've had in a while. Brilliant service, a lovely lady who was very helpful and ensured our food was delivered to our table super promptly. Live band which was nice.

Lovely hearty food...sausage and mash and beef bourginion. Cheese plate huge...share it! Love they do 365ml carafes of wine. Will definitely return. Speedy and friendly service too and 5min walk to The National.

The service was very good. Efficient and friendly.Tosin our waiter was particularly good 😁 Starters ( pate and breaded prawns) tasty and good sized portions. Steaks were cooked as requested. Very tender with good flavour. A couple of less positive comments. It was really cold in the section where we were seated . And the view from our table was mixed. To the left of my view was the London Eye and Big Ben 😁. But to the right looking down, outdoor chairs and tables stacked up . Not very appealing. Overall a good meal out for a treat but too pricey for us as locals to be visiting regularly.

Lovely! This long-established restaurant always meets hopes and expectations. Friendly efficient staff, steaks cooked as requested, lovely ambience --- and boyfriend took me there first in the middle 1970s I think (or early 80s? Thinks it was 70s).The standard has been maintained through every visit AND we have lovely music if we pick our timing right too

Yet another excellent meal at the Archduke, our go to place before RFH or NT.

Good food and 1/2 price bottles of wine…what not to like! The prix fix menu is a gem.

Good food, good service and reasonable prices - overall a great event

Absolutely loved this restaurant. Great ambience and excellent value. We had the pre-theatre menu and the steak was perfect! The Long Island Ice Tea was also spot on. Staff were welcoming and attentive where needed. Thankfully no loud music to yell over whilst trying to eat too, something which seems to unfortunately be the fashion now. A lovely place to celebrate a birthday and thank you for the birthday song!

We had a lovely pre concert meal at The Archduke and were able to take advantage of its half price wine deal. Food was great and service was exemplary - we were upstairs and it was reasonably early so very peaceful environment. Thank you again.

Came here for dinner while enjoying the lively jazz music. I was skeptical about the food at first but turned out to be great. Had the roast chicken which was moist and flavorful as well as the bacon cheeseburger which was also nice. The music was fantastic. I will definitely be back.

Vine aquí para disfrutar de la cena mientras escuchaba jazz. Francamente yo era escéptico la comida sería cualquier bueno - era genial! Mi marido tenía el pollo asado y estaba muy húmedo y perfectamente cocinado. Lo único no tan genial fue la ensalada verde que lo acompañaba. Tenía la hamburguesa de queso con tocino y estaba muy bien. Las papas fritas estaban calientes y crujientes. La música era increíble. Disfrutamos de una comida decente por un precio razonable mientras disfrutamos de música increíble. Sin duda volvería de nuevo.

Nice set up and good location. We were upstairs and was spacious. Set menu had what we wanted and when we were there wine was half price. Recommend.

An excellent venue for a pre-Royal Festival Hall concert lunch. Food good, ambience excellent and service also very good. Reasonably priced. It is conveniently located between Waterloo Station and the Royal Festival Hall.

We had an early evening booking, the Archduke was already quite busy but the service was prompt. Food was excellent and the ambience very pleasant. There was live music later that evening, sadly we couldn’t stay to listen.

Had a late lunch with my friends today. Food was ok but all of the waitresses were so unhappy and grumpy, talking to us in a very unpleasant and rude way, i felt like i did something wrong. Just the bartender was working hard shaking those cocktails. Don't think ill be back.

Booked a 7pm meal for a long awaited family get together..I was unaware when I booked the table that we would be hurried through our meal as they wanted to close at 9:00. The food was good but the experience was ruined as we were reminded at every contact with the staff that they wanted to close at 9. If I had known this before the meal I would have definitely booked somewhere else where we could take our time and enjoy each other’s company. I am unlikely to use this restaurant again as there are many other options nearby where I hope we could spend a relaxing evening together.

good food at a reasonable price for London and friendly, efficient service, my only criticism was the very noisy heating system which made conversation difficult at times.

Had dinner with family members after the theatre. Great atmosphere, warm welcome, very good service, delicious food and good value for money. Could not fault it. And there are was also live jazz. Will definitely go back to the Archduke.

The Archduke is a good place for food and drink in the South Bank. Service is excellent. Unfortunately, this time, our steak was not up to standard, nevertheless this is still a good place and we will continue to visit.

Service very professional. Prawn starter lovely. Both main courses excellent. Beef bourguignon and chicken. As was desert, chocolate brownie. I had an expresso martini which I asked to be decaf and they kindly agreed. We have passed the archduke many times over the last 20 years and never been in before. Usually we need to dine before a show so the location doesn’t suit us as we need to be in theatre land. However, we had seen a matinee so decided to stop here before getting our train. Very pleased we did and we will eat here again when the opportunity arises.

My daughter and I booked lunch at the Archduke between an exhibition and a show. The food was lovely, very well cooked and well presented. Dessert was delicious and the wine was very good. Service was excellent, no rushing and very efficient. Would recommend to family and friends and will visit again.

The overall experience of eating at The Archduke on a Saturday was excellent. The food was good, staff very obliging and friendly and an added bonus was the live jazz quartet. We had a wonderful time.

The food was mediocre (and steaks were undercooked) and the service was not very attentive. We were celebrating a wedding anniversary (noted on the reservation), but nothing was even said to wish us well.

Habíamos ido a ver un espectáculo en el West End. Luego una noche viendo ballet en South Bank. Necesitábamos sustento. Y eso es lo que tenemos. Fritas de carne rápida y desierto y cócteles. Nuestra llegada se retrasó ya que el ascensor para llevar mi silla de ruedas desde Embankment hasta Hungerford Bridge estaba fuera de servicio, así que tuvimos que ir a través de Waterloo. Explicamos nuestros parámetros de tiempo y el camarero y la brigada de cocina nos encajaron. El nivel de entrada para sillas de ruedas está en la parte trasera a través de la zona de comer de lado a puerta.

Great steak, great environment and live music. What's not to like!

4 of us met up for a Christmas get together and we had a fantastic afternoon/ evening at the Archduke. The staff who greeted us and served us were friendly, attentive and enhanced our experience. The food was delicious, we all enjoyed our meals. The piano player in the afternoon created a lovely atmosphere while eating and then we moved downstairs to listen to the jazz band, who were great. We all said we would 100% come back. To all the staff thank you and Happy Christmas.

I’ve brought my family here a few times when they’ve visited London, and it’s always a wonderful experience. The food is excellent, the staff are incredibly welcoming, and the live jazz creates the perfect atmosphere.

Great food & value (we chose from the 'Prix Fixe' option). Service & ambience was just super. We were allocated the seating area we had requested, (one of the booths upstairs) which was more intimate and quiet for our small group to chat amongst ourselves.

The steak was tasty, but the portion size was quite small for the price. I had the classic steak and frites. The service was fast, and the ambiance was enjoyable, especially with live jazz music playing in the background.

The food was very good and plentiful, cooked exactly how we wanted. It was busy and as a result rather noisy but service was good and very friendly. We had mentioned that we were going on to a concert and as a result we were served in a timely manner though didn't feel as though we were being rushed.

My first visit here, and the service was very good. We were met at the door by a smiley lady and the staff that served us which was 3 different people were all polite and happy. Food was really good too, two of us had steaks which were perfectly cooked to what we asked for. Lots of mushrooms which was really nice. All very tasty, and the wine was good too. Another person in our group had the hamburger with bacon which again was a tasty plate. The chicken wings that came as a starter were not so good, a little over done. That is the only negative. All in all, I would go back again.

A great night out as always, generous and delicious starters. Steak frites done perfectly across the range. Lovely ambience and service. At the end of the meal the attentive waitress told us that the manager was very appreciative of us regulars having a WhatsApp group called the Archdukers to stay in touch and organise our visits. Temporary roadworks outside the venue made it interesting to get to the front door. Persevere, it's more than worth it. A perfect experience ❤️

good food with a great ambiance with really good music

Great location. Arrived 20 mins early but greeted warmly and taken to the table. Main area where live jazz played is lively but there are many nooks and crannies for quieter conversation. Menu has plenty of choice and the pre 7pm fixed price is worth doing. We had the bangers and mash and steak frites which were delicious. Would recommend and can't wait to go back.

I would like to thank the whole team at The Archduke for being such a positive aspect of our West End experience. We chose to have pre-theatre lunch at The Archduke as we had purchased tickets for Mean Girls at The Savoy. Both myself and friend travel in to London into Waterloo/Waterloo East. Owing to Rail Replacement Services from Kent, my friend could only get into London for 1.15pm. I booked a table for 1pm and arrived at the appointed time. I explained my friend's challenge to the staff who were very happy to help. They took our order (my friend had selected from the menu online) and asked the kitchen staff to prepare it to be delivered for 1.30pm. My daughter was already a bit hungry but the mezze platter was too big/expensive so the front of house manager offered a smaller hummus and pitta bread as an appetiser which was a perfect compromise! Whilst we waited for my friend and daughter, the kind piano player offered 2 French children to show their abilities and they were very good! I bet that made their day too. The food was beautiful and piping hot. It made for a very pleasant start to our London experience. After the show (which was also awesome btw!) my daughter and I returned to meet with 2 old work colleagues of mine. The staff welcomed my daughter and I like we were old returning friends which was lovely :) Can't fault the team at all. Note: Try not to be seated in the back conservatory area as the generator is quite loud and it's a known issue.
