Had a very confusing experience, the staff just stared straight through me and my friend. Appreciate it was busy and they were catering to existing patrons, but even when we first walked in, made eye contact and said hello, there was no ‘hello’ back, or even ‘sorry i’ll be with you in a minute’, we were just straight up ignored. Not by 1 member of staff 1 time, but by all 3 of them several times in the 5+ minutes we waited to see if we could be accommodated. The cafe is very small, so it took a lot of effort from them to purposely walk around us and consistently ignore us as there were no quiet corners to stand in while we waited. Would’ve been happy to wait, or go elsewhere (which we eventually did) if they said they didn’t have space, but just so confused why they wouldn’t communicate with us in any way. No nod, no smile, no words, just did their best to pretend we weren’t there

This used to be my favourite coffee shop, there was nowhere I'd rather eat/have coffee in Brighton . However the service has dramatically decreased in the past months. My last several visits, the staff have given me an incorrect food order every single time and today, they gave me food AND drink im allergic to, despite me asking for otherwise. I can understand a mistake here or there, but to the point that it makes me physically sick? I chose to give my money to Cafe Rust and as a result it has made me quite badly sick - from something as silly as the staff not listening to what I ordered. I will not be going back and I strongly advice you go elsewhere as well.

This was our first visit to Rust Kemptown, having stumbled across it on a stormy Sunday. We had been to the Preston Circus branch previously so we know the format. It was busy when we arrived so it's clearly popular. We timed it perfectly just as a table of 8 people were leaving. It's great for us that they are dog friendly. And the dog was happy with the free treat. Coffee was excellent. The food was extremely good too. I went for the eggs Benedict and have to say it's one of the best I've had. Wonderful sourdough bread, perfect poached eggs and lots of smoked streaky bacon. Staff were friendly as well. Would definitely be back.

Cafe Rust is a great spot for coffee & breakfast. It’s always busy - no matter what time of day I pass. So we decided to try breakfast there this weekend & see what the attraction is.When we arrived it was packed. We were able to squeeze on the end of a long table though. I really wanted a Bloody Mary but they had no tomato juice. So I stuck to black coffee - very nice it was too- I have a feeble palate & really don’t like coffee to be too strong or too bitter. Rust coffee was just right.I ordered the vegetarian full English & my partner had the meat version.Nice friendly staff- nice atmosphere too. Very varied customer base from old people to teenagers. I think the delicious looking cakes are a major draw...Our breakfasts arrived - both served on slices of sour dough toast. Mine Came with 2 poached eggs, portobello mushrooms, halloumi, avocado, wilted spinach. His was the same but with sausages & bacon. It was a most excellent breakfast. It was very well priced &I can see why it’s so popular. As this is just round the corner I will definitely be back - there’s a piece of vegan carrot cake with my name on it.

You get charged £1 for a single tomatoe extra! However the service is an issue at times, no fault of the person but owners- I do feel sorry for the young lady or young man who are delightful but have to take the orders, make coffees, take the money, clear the tables inside and outside and wash up alone so queues can form - they are polite and always apologise profusely . It’s the owners who have scrimped on serving staff so the personal touch is lacking - which is in abundance every time at The Compass Point 50 yards up the road.Egg&Spoon also do NHS staff takeaway discounts !

The staff repeatedly wrote down and then 'forgot' our food and drink orders. We had to keep reminding them what we were waiting for. Even when reminded the kitchen still managed to mess it up, meat sausages instead of vegetarian that we ordered! In their haste to serve us they also nervously split tea on my friend's white trousers - ouch!! The food overall was OK, not amazing. We walked into this charming cafe close to the seafront straight from running the Brighton half marathon. There was a table for 7. Dream come true after a long run. We sat and decided what to eat. Mostly breakfast but a couple of sandwiches and 2 people wanted baked potato and chillie. We had a conversation about how hot and spicy the chille was.The drinks came, the breakfasts came. One sandwich came that was meant to be granary and toasted. It was neither. We compromised on the type of bread and they took it and toasted it. Ten, fifteen minutes later most of us are finished and still no baked potatoes. I asked and there was no apology. They went down to the kitchen. Nope. Not ready. A few more minutes passed and the poor girl who had run the half is starving now. Finally the waitress comes up with 2 baked potatoes on one plate. Both filled with tuna! Again no great apology. Just a matter of fact explanation the kitchen have made a mistake. We decline the offer of waiting another 20/25 minutes for more potatoes. We order 2 ready made sandwiches. Not really what we want but we are hungry and the other 5 people are finished. The sandwiches are average. When I go up to ask for the bill I suggest politely we don't pay for the 2 sandwiches and the two staff look very surprised. But it was just a mistake!! ( 20 minutes later than all the other meals and the WRONG thing) . They begrudgingly let us off paying for on sandwich. I state very politely I think that's poor service.I got in the car to head back to London and thought I would share. Very disappointing indeed.

I love this cafe! Its not been open long but I have been a couple of times now and they serve excellent coffee, lunches and cake. The cafe is also an Antiques shop so you are surrounded by an eclectic mix of decorative antiques - all of which are for sale. The staff are super - friendly too. I have had the 'Reuben' Salt Beef panini and it's excellent. My favourite Kemptown retreat right now. Recommended!

The unbelievably rude and verbally/physically abusive landlady, Hatt Eaton, was so unpleasant to our (booked) table of 5 South African and French friends during the South Africa v France World Cup Rug

I was at this venue for a friends wedding and I immediately saw why they chose it. The venue has some fantastic views overlooking the harbour. The food was exquisite and the bar staff were excellent,

Très bon dîner dans ce pub de Rottingdean. Le Pimms (apéritif) est très bien préparé (beaucoup de fruits). Nous avons aussi apprécié les Linguines (crabe & gambas) ainsi que la salade saumon et crevet
