Absolutely the best chicken burger I've Hever had, the food is well worth the prices. The chef Danny, is such a lovely bloke. His sauces are amazing, you can tell he has a love for what does and this definitely shows in his flavoursome food! Even what he's done to the red cabbage with the best roastsive had, just amazing! A genuine 20/10. Me and lady have now been 3 times in 8 day's.

The joy of this dining experience started with the email accepting the booking. We arrived early and sat outside for a drink before out table was ready. The walk from the seaside was exhilarating, the service authentically cheerful and the wine list was simple but good. We moved inside to a window table and the food began. Fries pork belly, West Indian curry, sea bream….all of it generous and delicious. We even had a brief visit from the chef to make sure all was well. Thank you so much to the amazing team at this pub who elevated a small family reunion dinner!

Our group included 2 who had lived in Trinidad for several.tears and so had personal experience of many of the menu choices. I, on the other hand, was venturing into Caribbean cuisine for the first time. I started with pig cheek tacos - something I will definitely explore in my own kitchen. For my main course - a mutton curry with several dishes that complemented it perfectly. Again, I'll be sure to reproduce these as well. My creme rule dessert was the perfect dish ( and size of helping) to finish with. We all Harvey's best Suffolk ale which was a great choice. Verdict from those who had lived in Trinidad - "Perfection!" The young staff created a welcoming and lively atmosphere. Full marks

As a local, my first visit to the Chimney House since it changed hands. I’d held back until the menu got an overhall. Really enjoyed the Jamaican Jerk chicken, full of flavour and reminded me of my days living in Ladbroke Grove and going to Carnival. Loved meeting the chef too - what a great addition! A man who takes pride in his food. The staff were outstanding, attentive and kept the drinks flowing. Thank you. My only gripe is the decor and acoustics though. It doesn’t feel as cosy as it should do in a close nit community. Get some hops on the pillars, gorgeous pot plants, personalised artwork and trinkets. Too many bare walls. We all love the pub and want it to succeed, it’s the heart of our community but make it feel cosy and warm and the neighbourhood will embrace you. Thanks for a lovely evening.

Fantastic roast in a really nice pub! The pub is nice - has a really nice traditional feeling whilst still feeling vibrant. Service is friendly and efficient. The food was amazing. Roast was done very very well. Everything was delicious (suede mash was out of this world). Live music played on Sunday night between 5-7pm was beautiful. Not too loud to be overpowering (could still hear conversations easily) but it just added to the already wonderful atmosphere of the pub. Highly recommend

The cheif was in the kitchen on his own and the place was quite busy so a bit of a wait happened before the food came out. I don’t normally write reviews but the taste of this food is worth it and worth the wait! Started with avocado and tomatoes. Simple but very nice! Main was ribeye steak! Gonna sound ponsy now, but I’ve been lucky enough to have steak in some of the best Restaurants around the world. My steak last night in this local pub was up there! And £18!!!!!!!! Get your ass there and tastes this chiefs food before he gets snapped up and pinched for a ponsy restaurant where the same meal will cost you £35+

Beautiful food, both in presentation and in taste. Just the right amount for a roast and everything on the plate was delicious and hot, nothing overcooked - really well put together roast. We had a chicken and a beef; other options available and also options for dietary requirements. Service was great to start but dropped off after we were served the roasts, so we ended up back at the bar to request bill. No biggy. It's a beautiful pub, warm and comfortable - very big family vibes on this Sunday we went, so if you're solo, or like us child free, bear that in mind; I rated 3/5 for atmosphere and that's entirely about personal preference not that the pub got anything wrong.

Booking for so many can be a bit annoying as there’s always so many people to deal with but Jamie and Ellen made it super easy. They were flexible and accommodating, and responsive to emails. On the day Ellen and Dan looked after us very well, with delicious food for us all. Sunday roasts were really good, great size, plenty of gravy and well cooked meat and veggies. We had a great time, there was a buzzing atmosphere and everyone seemed happy to be there. Would definitely recommend.

The Chimney House used to be one of my favourite pubs with an amazing chef and upbeat, friendly staff! The food quality has taken a downwards spiral! My roast consisted of undercooked potatoes, unseasoned veg, poor quality meat, and was overpriced! Poor KP in the kitchen having to help chefs cook as they are understaffed. The new manager spends more time on her phone and sat down than working, the other staff are constantly running circles around her! You can see the lack of order from the customer side of the bar. Decor and environment has a lack of warmth - such a shame, much preferred it before... :(

What a feast we had in The Chimney House at 7Dials in Hove. Oh my. We decided on a range of starters as a kind of tapas experience rather than main course. Special of the day was a glorious soup (on a determinedly rainy day) cauliflower, blue cheese, crushed hazelnuts, and cream. We began with that – who wouldn’t want to have soup on such a lunchtime? And Oh, this chef is a soup man indeed. Ask him and he’ll make you something to delight your life. We had: Queen green olives with lemon & rosemary; Duck liver parfait, marmalade & toasts; Ham hock and cheddar croquettes, tomato & basil; a mini beanburger with grated beetroot and flavoursome other stuffs. It felt as if we were in a nice restaurant, not a lovely snuggly pub, confronted with just beautifully-created food and every bite fantastic – enough to switch our minds from the world outside. Well done, Chimney House; your chef is a gem.

This place is under new ownership. We visited on Sun 19.11.2023. We walked in and asked to be seated, having not booked in advance. Were initially told no, they could not accommodate but fortunately they had had a cancellation so we were seated. NB: please make a reservation in advance I would highly recommend this place. The staff were all very friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble. As it was under new ownership, both the drinks and food menu were being implemented. That didn't stop the server recommending a fantastic wine to accompany the roast lamb. The service from entering the place, to leaving was exceptional. No stone is left unturned. The roast was of the best quality. Yorkshire puddings are huge. The roast potatoes are the best pub roast potatoes ever. Definitely on a par with home roast potatoes. The service attentive to the point that meat cutting knives are offered when ordering lamb or beef. The lamb is tender and boneless, melting in the mouth. A delightful dining experience. If you're in Brighton and looking for a decent Sunday roast. There is no need to look any further. Make sure you book in advance. You will not be disappointed!

I would probably score 3 stars had it not been for the price range, because the food was average/edible, but the price makes you assume a certain type of quality. We had super high expectations having studied their website and reviews, and it honestly felt like we went to another pub! They were really short on staff, which might be a consequence of Pride, and although friendly service was a bit disattentive and long. They had run out of chicken by 2.30PM, so we settled on beef and pork. The roast altogether looked and felt a bit tired - nothing like the images on their website - the pork tasted ok, but it wasn't cooked properly and the fat ratio was really a bit off, the carrot and veg underseasoned and underwhelming, the beef was nice and so were the potatoes. But worth the price? Absolutely not. We ordered a dessert (the elderflower and berries cheesecake) and it was also a miss, not sure there was any elderflower (syrup as its not in season) in there at all! Sadly will not be returning.

Came here for a Sunday lunch with family arriving at 14:30. Overall it’s a nice enough place, a little rough around the edges but clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. The food overall was really good. The blue cheese croquettes were delicious as was the sausage roll and olives. The Sunday roast was very mixed. My Dad had the beef which was tough and chewy, when he fed back they just gave him a sharper knife lol. I had the pork which was well cooked and tasty. The veg was delicious but the roast potatoes really let it down. They were dry as a desert. Not enjoyable. Granted this was at 3pm but still, they should be good all through service. Personally, based on this experience I wouldn’t rush back but it was far from a terrible experience. Give it a go and see what you think.

The bar staff remembered us next time and made us feel like locals. Subsequently we've had several Sunday roasts. I'm vegan, my girlfriend eats meat; and each time the food has been incredibly tasty, swift to arrive and left us feeling very full. I mainly drink red wine and the selection is excellent. Tis remains an excellent pub with a choice of real ales with Harveys at the centre! Terrible that we have to praise pubs for serving good beer but while the ale culture is being eroded across the UK it is essential to offer praise. The food here remains good though pricey and I noticed recently the menu was slimmed down with not quite enough options for vegetarians and pescatarians. However this remains one of Brîghton’s best pubs so I will be back and back again.

Pretty disappointing from start to finish. I made the booking online for the roast and the form said someone would contact to confirm. Never heard anything back so had to chase up the day before to confirm whether we’d been booked in or not. Staff said they hadn’t had the time to bother checking online bookings but they didn’t have any space left at the time I’d requested now but could offer later. We decided to take that anyway and hoped the mistake would mean a better service on the day. Arrived, was given a table for five even though we’d booked for six. An extra chair was added on the end and we were basically sat with another group we were so close. Because they’d moved our booking back, they had run out of pretty much everything so we had to run rock, paper, scissors to decide who would get which meal. Food took an hour to come, when it did everything was dried out from where it had been sat on a low heat all day - the potatoes were so hard that even after soaking in gravy it was still difficult to cut into them and harder to eat. We kept having to go to the bar to ask for service or request things because the staff didn’t come to check in on us or take our orders. In particular, one member (assuming she was the manager) seemed to find us an annoyance rather than paying customers who they had already messed about with the booking. I’m sure it would be good if you got there when everything is cooked fresh, but for what we paid, it really wasn’t worth it.

We booked for Sunday lunch a few days early, having received no response we contacted the pub to be told the time we had asked for was fully booked but they could book us in for 4pm. The when the food finally arrived, after an hours wait, it was completely dried out having been kept warm all day. I realise that it is probably difficult to have food sitting all day waiting to be served however we paid the same price as people on earlier sittings and therefore expected the same quality. The staff were unfriendly and we were made to feel that our presence was an inconvenience for them

We Requested a Sunday lunch at 3pm, they didn’t contact us to confirm and when we checked we were told we could come at 4pm , after an hour’s wait lunch arrived and it was obvious by the look and the taste of it that it had been sitting waiting to be served for hours, everything was dried out ; roast potatoes, greens, cauliflower cheese (that was £5 for a small bowl) .it was extremely difficult to cut through and eat the roast potatoes. No apology was offered for an hour wait or the fact that the food was substandard. We had to chase for everything, even the bill. We took off the service charge as we had to wait and the food wasn’t great. My pudding , however (the pear crumble) was delicious, they just need to cook some of the food from scratch later in the day than hold onto food until it has no moisture left. It was such a shame as I imagine it might have been quite tasty if it was fresh.

Set away from main roads this is a lovely quiet pub with friendly attentive staff. Food is great, a relatively small menu which is a good indication everything is cooked fresh. A good specials board takes you away from standard pub grub. A few of the beers were off but prepared to put that down to recent supply chain issues and the current climate. A hidden gem.

Really liked this place, especially the staff. They took the time to sing happy birthday to one of the younger patrons on request! Also a great selection of beer. Will be going back for food at a later date and will report back

Best Sunday roast I’ve had in Sussex so far, and I’ve had many . I came here a few weeks ago and had a 10/10 Sunday roast, but I wanted to come again to see if it was a one off before leaving a review. Well, I just had a roast again and it was another 10 out of 10! The pork belly, crackling, Yorkshire pudding and potatoes are in a league of their own. Highly recommend.

I attended Sunday evening for a roast dinner, the new chef has definitely brought some amazing flavours to the table. My friend & I both had lamb which was absolutely Devine, an assortment of seasonal vegetables & delicious roast potatoes. 10/10 we’ll definitely be back, thank you
