The Anglers of Walton in Elmbridge

Popped in early bank holiday Monday evening after what I can imagine was a long and busy Easter weekend, staff were upbeat, polite and welcoming. Despite it being late in the day there was still a full water dispenser, neatly stocked glasses and equally well replenished cutlery, napkins and condiments. Upstairs a happy hard working team were closing down for the night.. lovely to see such a great team spirit. Also loved the dog bowls which were clean and easily accessible.

So looking forward to our visit on Easter bank holiday Monday. But sorely disappointed. I was treating family, to a meal out. Booked a table online, which stated, "Book a table and get a complimentary bottle of wine". Imagine my surprise, when getting the tab at the end, that the cost of the wine was added. Upon my protest, that item was reduced to £12. I again expressed my shock, and eventually the item was taken off the bill. We had ordered the roast platter. This was served tepid, and we were given cold plates. Surely hot food should be served on hot plates? I still feel upset at the spoiling of what should have been a memorable event. NOT a Happy bunny.

Dreadful service and food. We waited a long time between courses and our dishes to be cleared from the table. We ordered Fish & Chips which were soggy and barely warm. The burger ( as mentioned in.previous reviews) was from Tesco and very plain. Would not recommend.

Whenever I visit family in Weybridge, we always visit The Anglers because of its great location. We always have a warm welcome with Ricky and his helpful staff. The drinks and food here are excellent with a great selection for everyone. Many thanks to Ricky and all his friendly staff for last nights Sunday Roast - it was amazing as per usual - thank you. I sat at table number 212 with my family of three, hoping to relax a little. However, the person who took our order completely ruined our mood by saying that nearly everything I picked from the menu was unavailable also he mentioned that I have to prebook for place the order which is so funny and never heard it before. In the end, the few dishes we managed to order included a double chicken burger and calamari — both of which were burnt, and the chicken smelled terrible. We weren’t even given a knife or napkins! We even had to get up and search around the place just to find the sauces ourselves! I have no doubt that this will be both my first and last visit. I’m sure that with the £50 I spent here, I could have enjoyed much cleaner, fresher food and far better service somewhere else!

We really enjoy your pub and visit almost every day for a drink – it’s one of our favorite spots! However, we’ve noticed that the price of a pint of beer seems to vary quite a bit. Sometimes it’s £4.50, other times £6.50, and recently even £7.00. We’re a bit confused and just wanted to check if there’s a reason for the price differences? Thanks in advance, and keep up the great atmosphere!

Nice atmosphere, not so nice food. Food here used to be good. Just had a chicken burger clearly made with the standard frozen chicken breast from Tesco. Not acceptable for a £18 burger.

Afternoon tea was excellent, weather was great so able to sit outside looking a the River Thames, service good.

Why am I constantly disappointed by this pub. For such a fantastic location, the service, attitude and food are always a let down. Food was overcooked, or had been sat for a while under a heat lamp before being served up. Took ages, even a simple bread and oil starter had to be chased. staff couldnt care less, and had to be prompted for simple things, like help or to take the dirty plates away. Every time we asked for something we were told to go to the bar. When mentioned to the bar man (could have been the manager) that the chips were brown and dry, fish overcooked, he just looked at me and said Ill tell the chef. No apology or offer to remove from the bill, just a flat look. This is my fouth and last visit to the Anglers for food, its never been satisfactory. Management need to get a grip.

Very pricey but excellent location. Very busy at weekends. Didn’t eat but food looked good.

Good Guiness for £5.80, Pint of coke was £4.60 though which is a bit ridiculous but that is most pubs nowadays. We didn’t try the food but the menu sounded good

Ideal spot to people watch, soak up the sun (responsibly!) Enjoy a sharing platter with a loved one and feel good to be alive!

Lovely pub, and what a shame, such a rude young server who wouldn’t give his name, said server also vaping just beside the entrance. No wonder this pub is quiet while its neighbouring pub not even on the water front was buzzing. Horrid staff and a rubbish pint. Don’t bother. Tried it again. If you want disgusting fried food and congealed grub come on down to the anglers.

This is a lovely pub which is situated by the river with stunning views and huge potential to be very popular. A frequent visitor but on more than one occasion, especially in the week nights, often felt uncomfortable when staff eager to get home on time. It’s not rare to be kicked out early, well before closing time when pub not so busy. Staff, cleaning, hinting to rush you, so you can leave well before closing time. Shame, as such a lovely place but off putting when this happens..

Popped in after a long walk by the river and had was treated by Ricky.... He was very accommodating he recommended we had the pork for Sunday dinner which was lovely great pub by the river

We popped in here for lunch while out for a walk along the Thames with our dog. As we stepped inside we and our dog were greeted and a dog water bowl provided- this pub is definitely dog friendly, which made us feel exceptionally welcome. The staff were friendly and efficient. The food was delicious and the portion size huge. It was very good value for money. There was a real fire, which created a cosy atmosphere and , even though it was busy, it didn’t feel crowded. We were lucky enough to be seated in the bay window, which gave us a lovely view of the river and later an incredible sunset. I’ve recommended The Anglers to friends and it’s now firmly on our list of pubs to dine in locally.

Can’t rate this place enough staff are super friendly and helpful and welcoming karaoke was a good giggle and food was gorgeous

Called in for a pint while walking the Thames path to Hampton Court. The lad behind the bar was friendly and was quite happy to provide advice on transport options into the centre. I had a pint of London Pride which was bang on form. I was also pleasantly surprised at the price of £4.50 a pint! This seems very reasonable for South East prices. The seating out the front would be super in the summer, or on any clear and dry day, I got lucky with a very sunny January day and enjoyed sitting out by the river.

I have eaten here a few times and always enjoyed but not this time. The sausage and mash was smothered in a not particularly nice tasting gravy and red cabbage does not go! Msy I suggest green cabbage! I will be swerving here except for a drink

Very disappointed with the food. We ordered roast pork which came without crackling. After informing the waiter he presented one tiny strip of crackling the size of my pinky! The food was cold. We ordered an adult and a kids roast and there was no difference whatsoever in the size/portion? This was our third pub we visited all the others were fully booked now I can see why …. I won’t be visiting The Angers again!

Stopped for lunch. Lovely table overlooking the river. An extensive menu - had trouble choosing as liked the look of everything. Didn't really need starters as then struggled to eat mains. Delicious - cooked perfectly - large helpings - hot plates - good value for money - friendly staff. Will certainly be back.

Food and service was great, couldn't fault it. A very enjoyable meal and evening. My only advice, don't sit by the window on a cold night.... We did initially but quickly moved next to the warmth of a nice big radiator which was chucking out lots of heat!

We would usually go to the pub next door, the Swan, but decided to drop into the Anglers today... My girls wanted a hot chocolate on a very cold day... We found a table and went to the bar to order. Sorry Sir we do not serve hot chocolate. I mean really. Lesson learnt... Go to the Swan.

Popped in here for a snack a Christmas drink, very cosy, and Christmassy, fast service. Highly recommended.

This is a great pub. We’ve been several times and there’s always a nice atmosphere. The staff are friendly and the service is good. We love stopping here while on a riverside dog walk - it’s very dog friendly.

We visited this pub as a recommendation and it was very good indeed. The food was great and the manageress Bertie was incredibly helpful throughout.

5 of us had food off their new menu tonight. The food was delicious and all of us enjoyed our meals immensely. The service was fabulous and to the delight of our friend from Cyprus they were decorated for christmas. We will definately be back and I will recommending you to my friends for sure. Omg I just came back from a great night at The Anglers. The new menu was delicious, the staff were friendly and funny and the whole atmosphere was so cozy and welcoming ❤️ will definitely visit again when I am next in the UK. Also dog friendly 😍

Super disappointed with the food and the service. Fish platter was fried to the point of being a dark brown inedible colour. We came for a medium reading and the organisation was awful. We were directed up to a table upstairs and were forgotten. We arrived at 7 and were never told that we had to do anything more until everyone was addressed before us and we're left at 10 30pm with no engagement and everyone else having their session with the clairvoyant. We were lied to to say the it was in order of booking. But it wasn't as people they arrived 40mins after us were addressed first. Super disappointed as we booked a month and a half in advance. No trust for this place and it's events service

Lovely atmosphere by the river absolutely love the staff and can’t express how amazing the new menu is looking, big probs to head chef Karl Jackson for an amazing presentation. And lovely service from Cameron Bennett, highly recommend this place.

Had a surprise 60 th birthday there. The staff especially Charles was amazing. And the food was quality. Highly recommend it.

Always busy so we never end up being able to order food as there is a delay in the kitchen being able to take orders if you have not booked in advance

We had an afternoon tea which was very reasonably priced compared to other places we had looked at, but the whole experience was very positive, with a good selection of fresh sandwiches, a variety of cakes and some scones with cream and jam. Good service. Very happy.

Roaring fire, lovely. Timmy Taylor beer, lovely. Staff, lovely. View over the Thames from our window table, lovely. Outside riverside seating, lovely. Decor, lovely. Properly dog friendly (with blanket, treats, chew), lovely. Three of the dishes we wanted on the menu were not available. As one of us was running the Thames Half Marathon the next morning, this dampened our evening. Not so lovely.

Fantastic location, right on the river with amazing views. Food and service were top notch. Looking forward to returning in the future.

Had a superb meal down here last week. The steak was cooked absolutely perfectly & the service was great too. Beer is much better here than the Swan next door too...what's not to like, so glad it's our local !!!

Shame so many things on the menu were unavailable so someone there needs to sort out their supply chain - hardly difficult to predict a run on things when the weather is good across a bank holiday week! Burgers good though and prices reasonable, especially given the excellent location

We had a birthday lunch here for my husband's 81st with all our family on Sunday. The staff couldn't have been more friendly or helpful and the food was delicious, particularly the roast beef and lamb shanks. Thank you for making his day so special.

We arrived on a Sunday after a lovely walk by the river but hadn't booked a table, lucky for us they had a table inside that was available as they had a no show. The greeting was friendly, service was good and the food was lovely. We were not rushed and also had dessert which was also very yummy. We will definitely visit again as they have a good menu but if you are not hungry then you can enjoy a drink by the river while we have wonderful weather. Remember to book so that you are not disappointed as it gets very busy.

Stopped for Sunday roast during a hike. Lovely views of the river. Also Sunday roast was worth the price.

I booked a table here our 25th wedding anniversary and was so disappointed first of all they new nothing about my booking. We then went to sit down my husband pulled a chair out it was so stained and filthy dirty he had to swap it for another there was food on the floor from lunch time disgusting state . We were going to have the meal deal 2 for £24 but was told they couldn't do it as not coming up on the till so my husband finished his drink and we went somewhere else never to return so our evening was totally ruined 😡😡

What a fantastic spot! Right by the river with a waterside seating area and a large pub with lots of seating options. The staff were lovely, the range of drinks generous and the food excellent. Parking can be a little limited but there are options a 5 minute walk away. 100% recommend!

Would not recommend this restaurant for people with dietary restrictions. They have a gluten free menu but clearly advised us that they could not serve if the person was Celiac. Luckily is was a gluten intolerance and we could be served. On arrival there was no one to greet us or show us where to sit. Waited for a while on the front steps and then finally went looking for a server. We arrived on time for a 7pm reservation and while other tables had names there was none with our reservation even though they had our reservation on the system. So we sat at a random table…while they held the good tables (with the nice view) for people who were coming much later in the evening. In fact when I phoned earlier to ask if we could moved our reservation to 7:30pm they said it was not possible - yet 4-5 tables around us sat empty even until we left at 8:30pm.. Most things on the menu were not available at 7pm on a Saturday night. The gluten free menu had 3 dishes and 1 salad - but only 1 dish and the 1 salad were actually available. The Regular menu had many items not available (for example the “signature sharer” and several other items. Ordered food at 7:20- did not come out till 8pm. When it did come out the burgers were definitely not worth the £15 price. The falafel and Lamb shank was better. At 8:25pm when we asked to order dessert we were told the kitchen was closed due to a stock issue. This was at 8:25pm on a Saturday night, rather baffling. Reading the other reviews I see that this has happened before. The young lady who served us was lovely but had to apologise multiple times for unavailable items after placing the order. I think this place is best suited for drinks, pity as location is great. Disappointing night out.

I recently visited this bar and I must say, it was an experience worth sharing. The location is fantastic, I don’t normally write reviews however one member of staff deserves a shout out. The real star of the day was Cameron. His service was excellent. He was attentive, friendly, and made sure we were well taken care of throughout the day. His knowledge of the drinks menu was impressive and his recommendations were spot on! The ambiance of the bar was lively and welcoming, making it a great place for both casual hangouts and special occasions. I highly recommend this bar for anyone looking for a great day or night out. Kudos to Cameron and the team for making our visit memorable. Can't wait to go back!

I did not eat food hear but stopped to get a pint of lemonade with ice (£4.35) and sat outside on a bench with my dog while I drank it. The water was calm though the place was packed and noisy and I prefer places less crowded or with more space in between benches and less smoke from smokers. That is why my wxperienc was just ok for a brief hydrating stop, albeit a bit pricey.

Rude staff, you are the one who made a mistake and I said sorry because I didn’t know what’s my parents they ordered but you, the one who served the wrong table didn't apologize to the me once and just kept saying that I shouldn’t eat.

Lovely pub, right by the river. Parking is a bit tight at busy times but we went mid afternoon on a weekday and there was plenty of space. Thoroughly recommended.

We had our Wedding reception with you and we just wanted to say thank you and how amazing you all are at The Anglers! From the day we popped in to see the place to the actual day, we were so pleased with everything! It’s such a lovely space you have with great views. You were so accommodating with letting us set up the room how we wanted and our deliveries of cake and balloons. We had a fantastic 3 course meal! Everyone loved the food and were raving about it for ages. So much better than just pub grub. This was really amazing food and so perfectly presented for all our guests. All the staff that helped with the organisation and on the day were incredible. They were so polite and attentive (not at all invasive). We literally couldn’t have asked for more. Thank you so much. Had a fantastic Sunday roast, everything was delicious and plentiful, we also took advantage of the unlimited extra roasties, Yorkshires and gravy. Service was great, we will definitely revisit.

Used to love going to Anglers when visiting Walton, however our last visit there earlier this month was SO disappointing, We sat outside which used to be a lovely spot, however there was rubbish everywhere under the tables. Dropped cutlery, crisp packets and used serviettes in danger of being blown into the river, and dog poo bags. It was really sad to see. The staff were so inattentive we sat at a dirty table for ages before it was finally cleaned, when ordering food there were 3 staff behind the bar chatting to each other and not interested in serving waiting customers an the food was totally ordinary. We would love to go back and experience how it used to be put were so put off, I doubt we will ever return now.

Not a great experience at first seemed nice and friendly pub was busy which was nice to see already behind us was a very drunk guy being very loud and swearing which to start was not a problem. So got drinks nice and easy go to order food no steak so was offered slow cooked rib of beef i dont like mash so changed for fries which was probably the best thing on the plate the neat was so fatty and not very warm the cabbage was stone cold and the gravy well with disappointment already dont matter also no fish and chips . No check backs on food were done which when working in hospitality should be done to make sure customers are happy when waitress did come over I explained i wasnt happy with my food and told her what was wrong with which either didn’t get relayed to manager as none one came to even apologise

Great location for social meet up and have a drink. The food was not great at all. But I would recommend the place for drinks on a hot sunny day.

I'm from South Africa and visited Walton on Thames for a few days. The Anglers is lovely pub/diner with really great meals. Sitting outside on a sunny day with the Thames as a backdrop is fantastic.

We went for a Sunday roast and it’s was the best roast personally I have ever had!! At the beginning there was a few hiccups as we had booked a table and we was seated in the perfect place as we had a dog with us who was slightly dog aggressive but then was asked to move to a more open area surrounded by other dogs we did wonder why as there was a mum and son who got the same place as us who got to stay without issues the place and the table we had moved from stayed empty til we finished so we asked jade the hostess ( who also kept a kind and friendly attitude the whole time and made the experience wonderful) and she was very polite and nice about the whole situation explain as to why we moved very calmly and didn’t become rude in anyway!! Over all the staff out did themselves as it was very hot out and extremely busy the waiter we had was very tired but he did a good job considering the heat and stress load would go again but when it’s less busy…GREAT JOB GUYS!!!
