Our third visit to the Angelbury. Very good food, very reasonable prices and very friendly service. Interesting history to the building with connections to T E Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia).

Just visited Anglebury House after 2 year "pandemic" break. We had an excellent meal, served efficiently and politely by Emma. Decor is a bit dowdy, (probably because it is a very old [listed?] building) but the food and service more than compensates and the prices are very reasonable. Highly recommended.

The weather was lovely and we would have liked to have sat out by the river but the area is used as a car park and we did not want to sit overlooking cars so we walked up the high street and stopped a local lady and asked her for a recommendation and she suggested The Anglebury House. We walked there and it was a charming old property. We sat in the walled garden and enjoyed scones and cream and delicious italian coffee.

Had not booked anywhere for evening meal and stumbled across this little treasure in a desperate search in these trying times! What a find! The service was friendly and prompt, and the ambience lent further charm to an amazingly good meal. The house was very old and had been frequented by T.E. Lawrence....! Very pleasant memory.

We've eaten here twice this week now while on a trip away from the kids. First day we popped in for some cream teas which were beautiful. We came back again for our last evenings dinner and it was perfect. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, the menu was diverse yet simple and the food was delicious. I hd the duck with rice and my wife had the chicken pasta followed by the sticky toffee pudding. Couldn't fault anything and would definitely recommend to anyone travelling to Wareham.

Following a very enjoyable boat trip in Wareham we had planned for a late-ish lunch. Seven of us (including children). After being turned away from one of the pubs nearer the quay as they would soon be stopping serving, we spent a while looking for somewhere else. Eventually reached Anglesbury House, where they smiled, welcomed us in and served us excellent food in good sized portions and good value. Would highly recommend them.

Called in for a meal when camping in the area, the restaurant obviously takes their covid responsibilities seriously and has implemented several safety measures which was very reassuring. The homemade burger was delicious, some of the other food was a bit basic but pleasant enough. The service was attentive.

Staff where very abrupt and everything was an inconvenience, when we entered she was near the door to the restaurant we said hi and she asked how she could help, I asked for a table for two to which she pointed to the tables and said sit anywhere and I'll get to you, there where 4 customers in the place who all already had there food so the abruptness seemed uncalled for. We both ordered omelette, chips and salad we asked what omelettes where available to be replied with a huff and a very quick response of cheese, ham or ham and cheese, also when she found out we wanted a pudding we where again greeted with what had become the standard huff and short abrupt response, when she saw we wanted to pay card she tutted and abruptly said "you better follow me then" leading me in to the hall to the location of the card machine, The whole experience was very poor and we will never visit this place again. The sad thing is that the food was nice, nothing fancy but nice, shame about the staff and complete lack of hospitality and customer service.

We sat down in the coffee lounge and asked if they had any cakes. We were told they had just sold out and were offered either scones or tea cakes. We ordered a scone and a tea cake and a tea and coffee. We weren't offered any choice of coffee but on looking at the menu later there were many different types. The tea cake was so hard it could have been used as a doorstop. The scone was adequate - nothing exciting. We pointed out that the tea cake was stale and it was deducted from the bill. My wife and I visited the Anglebury on the morning of Saturday 1st November for Coffee and a snack. We ordered coffee with real cream which was quite good served in mugs. My wife ordered a Scone with butter, which she described as a lump of dough with no fruit even the shape was round and even looking at it was as she put it "Offputting" but she did try some but it was obviously undercooked. I ordered an egg and bacon sandwich, when this arrived it was served in white sliced bread. The bread was fresh and the egg appeared fresh but the bacon was overdone, and an annoying amount of green leaves on the side with tomatoes and cucumber not really what I wanted with my egg and bacon sandwich.Sorry but I am sure there are better places in Wareham as we subsequently saw.

We ate here after wandering around and finding this restaurant quiet when the others were booked out. The front of house was friendly and the local beer fine. The starters were ok but my mushrooms in garlic and cream really needed a bit of bread. My wife's mushrooms in breadcrumbs with a chilly dip were ok but obviously not home made. The disaster was my steak and chips. The chips had been left in the warmer and the steak had been branded to finish its medium rare status. The branding had created a black burnt pattern on the steak that tasted of charcoal. I gave a piece to my wife to taste. She agreed it was terrible. She has never seen me leave steak before! From the general cooking the chef can cook but he destroys good food by treating it badly after he has cooked it.Steaks need a rest, chips must be straight to the table. Very basic stuff. If you present a nice creamy sauce some form of bread would be really good. They did give us drinks free but that is not what we wanted. Sorry.

When to this place because it as we walked by it looked oldy worldy and food was served all day on a Sunday. The restaurant was empty but the welcome was fine and we sat down. One of the tables had a broken leg so we had to wedge it with serviettes. The menu was varied and all looked fine. We ordered drinks and 3 of our party had coke. Whilst waiting for our drinks a scruffy looking gentlemen stared at us a couple of times through the door which we all found a liittle funny. When they arrived the cokes were warm. We complained and the lady brought us some ice. One of the party still was not happy so we went to the bar to change the drink. We found a dirty bar with coke being poured out of 2 litre bottles (we were told there were no cold soft drinks)and a bar full of undesirable smelly drinkers, the place stunk! We left the drinks cancelled our food orders and left. Judging by our experience and the rest of the reviews I would advise people to leave this place well alone. There are loads of good pubs in Wareham especially around the Quay area.

We decided to go into this pub after looking at others and thought the menu sounded good for choice. The waitress was friendly, but when we got there we had hoped to sit outside in the warm sunshine, only to be "greeted" by a lady smoking (which I believed wouldn't have been allowed in a small courtyard with 2-3 tables) and a man (who putting politely/kindly wasn't best dressed). They were more than likely regulars. Ordered a breakfast, childrens meal and toastie. The toastie was nice but partly undercooked. The childrens meal was good, just standard chips, nuggets etc. my husband said his breakfast was ok, but only the bacon was nice, the rest wasn't great. He left some of it, which is definitely unlike him! The side chips were a bit firm and the garlic bread we had to leave as it was stale and could see the floury white look that a defrosted piece of bread has after being in the freezer too long. As with other reviews, the coke was flat, but we didn't say anything thinking perhaps it was a one off. Mentioned problem with garlic bread and she said she would take off bill. Unsure what amount would have been originally with it on and being wasn't given an itemised bill would never know if it was removed. Strangely and (as other reviews have said), my husband had an upset tummy within the hour after leaving and whether, coincidence or not, I later felt queasy. Being this was the only meal we had that day, it could very likely be the food. Being there wasn't many people in the pub and the only cold drink ordered wasn't right, should have been a warning that chose the wrong pub for lunch. Overall food ok, but building and decor was better than the food.

Visited Anglebury House without checking reviews first and wished we had. My partner and I had dinner and both meals were very poor. The beef wasn't even in a sauce, just had a grainy mustard thrown over it and my pasta was terrible. Think it was probably out of a packet. Strangely enough the whitebait starter I had was one of the nicest I've tried but totally let down by not having any tartar sauce or dip of any kind! Very amateurish food and presentation. To finish it off my partner was up that night with a bad stomach from the food. She had been fine all day and hadn't eaten for several hours before going there so I don't doubt that's what caused it! It's a shame this place doesn't get a proper chef as decor and atmosphere wise it's really not bad at all and the staff were pleasant. Will certainly never be returning here again I'm sad to say.

Dropped in here on a Saturday lunchtime for a snack. Wasn't sure if it was open or not as we were the only ones there and now I know why! The food was awful, how can you ruin cheese on toast! It arrived burn't and consisted of two slices of cheap white sliced bread covered in a very salty and tasteless cheese. Soft drink wasn't chilled and the toilet facilities were grim. They were a shared single toilet for both sexes and it was so dark and dingy off an unlit corridor. The smell from the kitchens was of old fat fryers and filled the restaurant, One other customer came in whilst we ate and I wasn't sure if he was a tramp or not. He was loud and rude with his banter with the staff who clearly knew him. I would guess he was a regular and that just about sums up the clientelle. We were looking for somewhere nice to eat. The hotel looked charming and we received a warm welcome. It is charming, olde worlde and quaint.Starter was fine but then you can't really go wrong with deep fried brie and a bit of salad. Thought I'd try the chilli and garlic sea bass - sounded delicious! Sorry to say that I was unable to eat the thick slab of 'fish' that arrived on my plate covered with thick tomato and mushroom sauce - not a hint of chilli or garlic! Fish was think and rubbery and if I had to put money on it I would say it was 'boil in the bag' cheap fish for cats, definately not fresh delicately flavoured sea bass that I love so much. The lady who served us was not very happy when I explained that this was not at all what I was expecting and certainly did not equate with the description of the dish on the menu. I was told by her that 'this is why we always ask people if there is anything they don't like before they order'. I think she was referring to the sentence on the menu which asked that customers make staff aware of any allergies. Well I don't have any allergies but I didn't want rubbery frozen fish covered in tomato & mushroom splodge! In fairness they did replace the fish for me - and returned with a smaller piece of 'fish' (boiled!) with over cooked veg and no taste or flavour at all. I couldn't eat it and I promise you that I am not a fussy eater! Don't even bother going there!

Excellent service. Lizzie is lively and certainly makes you feel comfortable and at home. The food is exquisite, a personal favourite of mine, is the smoked beef board. Burnt ends, beef rib, brisket. All melt in the mouth and flowing with juice. The smoke leaves a delectable bark without overpowering the flavour profile of the meat itself. If you are feeling brave or want to stitch up your friends, challenge them to the chicken wings with dynamite sauce. It will blow your/thier head OFF. Extremely spicy but packed with juicy habaneros and scotch bonnets, this delicious home made sauce is not for the faint hearted, but provides hours of entertainment as you try to tackle the inferno.

Came here for food based on good reviews, on a very wet early September evening. I was a bit worried as although several tables were taken, it was quieter than some of the other pubs when I first arrived around 6pm (lots happening in and around Swanage that day so most other pubs were very busy). However, I think it might've been just that because the pub is off the main street, visitors would head to one of the more visible pubs first, so I'm glad I did a bit of research! It soon started to fill up though and I was lucky I had arrived when I did! I ordered the burger, which the lady behind the bar said was a good choice. She wasn't wrong, it was great! Everything appeared to be home made (except the bun and salad of course!) and was delicious. I had a couple of pints of Inches cider (one of my fav's) to wash it down too. It's likely not the cheapest place in town (the burger was £17.95 and the drinks were £5.40 each). I thought the price of the food was fine given the quality, but the drinks were a little expensive. The pub is dog friendly and while I love dogs, the only downside of the visit (not the pubs fault), on a wet day, meant several wet dogs kept brushing past me. Overall, I'd definitely recommend!

Had booked a table for Sunday lunch. Arrived to find the floor was still being vacuumed and only one table was laid and we were the only customers. Gave drinks order then, when brought , gave food order. It arrived between 5-10 minutes later. We were convinced the food had been heated in a microwave, my husband’s beef was tasteless and veg was undercooked and gravy was watery and flavourless. My chicken was a chicken portion not even sliced. When we left about 40 minutes later there were three more tables occupied.

I tried to order tea and scones at Knoll House restaurant today but there was no one who seemed to want to serve us. We asked at reception after waiting for ages at the bar for someone and was told to ring the bell. We eventually found the bell which was a door bell and not easy to see and after waiting again for an age, no one came. We rung the bell for a second time and stood waiting discussing what we should do when a very harassed waitress arrived carrying a full tray. When I asked if we could order she was unapologetic and unpleasant and told us she was unsure if we could have scones because they had been busy with a table of 22. I asked her to check to see and while standing there still waiting I felt the whole experience was now so awful that I didn’t want to stay and spend my money here. This was supposed to be a special treat for a friend and I that don’t see each other often and instead it felt like we were a massive inconvenience and completely unwelcome. I know staffing is difficult and expensive these days but treating people that have come in wanting to spend there money with you like that is appalling. We decided to leave and as we left we told the member of staff on reception that we were leaving because the waitress was rude and we couldn’t get served and even then no apology was given, no attempt to retain us as customers and seemly no concern that two paying customers were leaving and taking there money elsewhere. We had a lovely visit in a very fine cafe in Swanage and will not return to Knoll House and judging by the truly awful service we had today, no doubt this feedback will be ignored.
