The current incarnation/ownership is better than it was a few years ago, which is when I was last here. We came for Sunday lunch. It was full (and the Six Nations was on), but the Italian manager (I think his name was Cosmos) somehow had time for everyone while being really efficient. Good fish and chips. I'll come against

I celebrated my birthday in the functional room of this restaurant a while ago. I waited until I received my deposit to write a comment. I chose this place for the room which is really great and very beautiful. Before signing the contract I had visited the room and I was 100% clear and transparent about the fact that as I was gluten-free, I wanted my birthday to be gluten-free too and as there was no gluten-free option on the food menu, we agreed that I would bring some food. The minimum spend for the evening was £1000, I pre-ordered around £300, I paid the deposit for around thirty people and signed the contract. On the big day, I arrived 30 minutes early because I wanted to set up some decorations as well as some food that I had spent the day cooking myself, it was just small gluten-free snacks for snacking and homemade. The manager banned me from entering the room for 30 minutes because he said I was not allowed to bring in food from outside (nothing is mentioned about this in the contract by the way), I reminded him of our agreement that we had made 3 months before with himself, he said no he didn't remember it at all. My guests started to arrive, he finally let me into the room but it was still a very bad start and he didn't let me take out the few gluten-free snacks that I had spent the day cooking. The only place my guests could eat them was in the street in front of the pub so a friend of mine did a little distribution in the street, it was ridiculous! And even worse, he didn't even let me have my gluten-free birthday cake that my boyfriend had prepared for me! So I celebrated my 30th birthday without a cake or candles, frankly I found it quite cruel! And worse yet, without saying anything during the evening at 10 p.m., he slipped a little sign that added 8% tax on all drinks, this was never mentioned to me beforehand and he did it once people had drunk to get more profits, it's clearly illegal and dishonest! The manager of this restaurant is a scammer and spoke extremely badly to me all evening, it was very offensive, honestly it ruined part of my birthday! I remember his reflection: “if you are the gluten-free person, why are you forcing everyone else to be gluten-free too?” The pub was nevertheless very profitable in view of the number of glasses and bottles ordered as well as the illegally added tax! Since then, I have never set foot in this pub again, although I loved it before! Not so angelic this pub after all!

Upstairs charges service charge on drinks, downstairs doesn’t. Sort it out.

We came here on a Saturday night and the cocktails were so well made and tasted amazing! We were served by Cosmos, who made sure we had a great time and made the best margarita and mojito we’ve ever had. We’ll definitely be back :)

One of the best pubs I've been in UK! Amazing staff, super food, very nice decoration! The people who work there are amazing, super helpful,very easy going and funny! We tried veggie roasty, fish and chips burger and desserts! We loved everything and super lucky to have our last lunch in UK before leaving :)

I organised a Christmas lunch for 15 people, and it was fantastic. The food was excellent, the staff friendly and efficient, and it was a great atmosphere. Everyone agreed it was the best Christmas do in years - we liked it so much, we were there for about 10 hours! Thank you to The Angelic team for making it so special. I've been told by my team to book it again for next year!

The drinks were disappointing, and the person who appeared to be the manager was rude. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Had my mums wake here recently paid 900 fir food for 50 ppl the amount of food fir the price was disgusting fed about 25 ppl lot of ppl left without food wen we mentioned this staff were rude we put money of I believe 600 behind bar lot of ppl didn't drink as we're driving this money run out far too quickly was charged more for hire as was told because we wanted it at 3 it run into 2 bookings. On top of that was 165 of service charges staff don't speak English that well and didn't understand wat our complaints were about we certainly didn't get the amount of food we paid for being rip off fir a wake made a stressful day even more stressful. Avoid at all costs

This is such a wonderful pub run by wonderful people. They are professional but also kind, remember you even if you havnt stepped in the door for weeks or months! Great service, great food and great atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Ate here on Saturday afternoon. Not visited for almost 10 years. Food was great and arrived hot. Lovely atmosphere and professional service. The Italian woman serving people was so polite and friendly.

Stumbled across The Angelic today and what a great find. We really fancied a roast but hadn’t booked anywhere and it was delicious. Great value for money, especially for Angel, big portions and super tasty - didn’t take pics of the dessert as we devoured so rapid but the brownie was 10/10. The only tiny downside was not being told things that weren’t available when we sat down, but that’s just because we got our hopes up about the crab tacos, as it’s a fab menu. We had the haddock croquettes instead and our daughter wants to go back to have them again! Very family friendly, shows footy and peng food. Will be going back for sure.

Nice enough gaff. Could be so much nicer if the staff just tried a bit harder to be attentive, polite and friendly.

The upstairs room is an ideal place for a small function. The staff were great, very friendly and helpful. For a pub that calls itself gastro, though the food wasn't fantastic. The sausage and mash was literally that, no greens in sight, and the chicken pie came with beef gravy, which seemed bizarre.

Normally visit after work from time to time. May I suggest to remove the tipping option when buying drinks at the bar? It's rather inappropriate.

Attended a birthday party in the upstairs room unfortunately the sound system wasn't great. The bar was very busy and had a good atmosphere

Yeah had Sunday lunch here and was pretty nice. I had chicken and sticky toffee for afters. Angel who looked after us was really brilliant. Lost a star for atmosphere as football was on which I find hard to care about nowadays

El personal excelente con todos nosotros, a pesar de que estaba en bebidas sin alcohol, servido con una sonrisa y una sonrisa descarada... como llegó con un vaso y toneladas de hielo, dos veces! Wow! They are back open after a stunning refurbishment! Place looks amazing and the new menu with all fresh food looks delicious. I had the roast beef and it was so tasty!

This place is a gem and I wish I'd found it much earlier! We visited The Angelic a few times during the Euros as a fairly large party (~20 people), and had a great time in every visit. The team was absolutely amazing, from the manager Gavin to every single member of staff, they were all so friendly and helpful and made great efforts on those super busy occasions to ensure our party keep our space and have a great time. We are extremely grateful! I am looking forward to returning for more visits in future 😊 Also just to add - the pub is very nicely decorated, have great atmosphere, and the food is fantastic. If you see the slow cooked beef rib on the menu (seasonal), go straight for it, I can literally eat that dish every day.

Very nice bar staff team, super friendly. They serve brilliant Pimm’s (better than at Wimbledon!). Show sports, room upstairs, lots of seating. Great for an afternoon drink!

After a lovely hot day out in Islington, we decided to stop for drink in a local pub , we walked past afew and ended up in the angelic. The atmosphere was very friendly and the barman service us very quickly with a friendly smile and a very cold beer , we enjoyed our visit and will be back .

It's a nice enough bar, just off the main road near Angel Tube. Friendly and helpful staff. Tables are nearly always reserved, so not exactly walk-in friendly and the music is just too loud at the weekends, with everyone shouting.

Nos recibieron con una gran sonrisa, servimos una gran pinta de Fullers en una copa de mango adecuado, vino para mi esposa, compartimos un par de platos para recargar para la noche - recomiendo las patatas fritas de batata con aceite de trufa! Este es un hermoso pub clásico de Londres con grandes techos altos y ventanas, espaciosos asientos y restaurantes, buenos precios y personal amable. En resumen, solo una parte de una gran noche en Islington, esta es, con diferencia, la parte más acogedora de la capital que hemos experimentado.

Popped in for Sunday roast without a booking. Friendly staff accommodated us quickly and warmly. Would not return for food. Some elements were over and others undercooked. Would like a smaller and better-executed menu. Quality over quantity. Would return for beers!

Despite only visiting this pub a few times, I've always really enjoyed the atmosphere and its friendly feel. Every time I'm in Angel (roughly once every 18 months) I always have a drink here as it is close to my hotel. Really good choice of beers on draft from local breweries and consistent favourites. In summary, it's a fab local!!!!

Called in for a pint early afternoon and it was fairly quiet. Nice welcome and good beer. Traditional old pub. Piped music and tv screen for sports coverage.

I've been to The Angelic for after work parties several times now, and after my latest experience I felt compelled to write a review. I reserved an area for my podcast birthday party and the staff couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating to me and my guests. The event went off perfectly, and the prices are reasonable across the board. I really can't recommend them enough if you need a great pub near Angel Tube.

Anna was the best barmaid ever she made sure we all had drinks at our party she was so attentive love her she should be made manger because she is a VIBE !!!

Prices remain a bit high for Angel in particular, pushing up the gentrification of this increasingly insipid insular isle of important imbeciles - Islington. Regardless, staff is friendly, decor is not half-bad. May come back to try the food if I win the lottery a second time (the first time I lost the damn ticket, no!!)

A bright and friendly pub that serves one of the best pints of Timothy Taylor Landlord I have ever tasted - absolute nectar. The only negative that stops me giving five stars is the background music - which I thought was a bit too loud and made conversation a bit difficult.

In the early afternoon on a weekday this spot is very relaxed but what really impresses me is the quality of their food. The chefs in their kitchen take a lot of care to customise the food if necessary (including lettuce and tomato on my burger) and everything including the desserts is made fresh on-site. Once again I seem to be in a space where the staff and the owners are very caring and helpful; maybe I keep having big helpings of good luck, but really I think I just have a tendency to meet good things at appropriate times. I hope the Reviews help someone else down the line.

Good boozer, friendly staff, usually always a place to sit. Clean bathroom. Food is good, fairly portioned. Had the beef and venison pie and the Hunter's Chicken. Both are good choices to fill you. Four ale taps, a selection of "craft" (read: pale ales), a Cider, Peroni and cold Guinness. They have a selection of cocktails and shots as well, which I did not indulge in. Music has been a touch loud, but it's a pub so is to be expected. They have an app to order and pay with, but you need to ask the bartender what the table number is as they're not obviously numbered, and the rotating taps are not listed in the app.

The nearest Tube is Angel, it’s a four minute walk to get here. Opened as George IV in 1824, The Angelic was renamed after the film The Angelic Conversation, directed by Derek Jarman who lived opposite the pub during the 1960s. This striking pub would have had five internal divisions, as suggested by the numerous external doors. This is a bright and airy good sized pub which thankfully retains some original features like the beautiful fireplace. The main bar is laid out in a ‘C’ shape around a bold blue servery which has a stunning back bar. There are large windows spanning three walls which flood the pub with light, if you look around the top of the walls you will see the original Victorian ceramic frieze. The seating consists of rustic tables and chairs plus comfy booths and benches. If you head upstairs you’ll find another bar that is used as a function room. It’s a cosy, comfortable drinking space that comes with plenty of candle-lit tables and a mural on the ceiling. If you need the loo, you have to descend town a spiral staircase which has, yes you guessed it, a water feature at the bottom. The beer line up will please most, there is a selection of popular keg, revolving craft and cask ales to choose from. I opted for an Amstel, my pint was decent, price point was average. The food menu is classic pub grub plus Roasts on a Sunday, Fish & Chips costs £17. We arrived around 6pm on a Saturday evening in October. The pub was packed with a predominantly younger crowd and had a vibrant buzzy upbeat atmosphere. The service was on point, although it was busy, we didn’t have to wait long to be served. This pub shows Live Football, hosts Comedy Nights upstairs, DJ nights and offers various drinks promotions through the week. This is a very eye catching boozer that easily draws you in. Very rude male bar staff, sexist with a lack of social skills. Wouldn’t allow us to continue sitting at the bar on bar stools that were free and already there. Men allowed to stay. No consideration for where we would sit as an alternative.

Definitely a lovely pub and great ambience in Angel. However, I attended the Angelic for a birthday party but was absolutely flabbergasted by the 12.5% service charge applied to drinks when ordered AT THE BAR! I understand inflation and cost of living but £7.13 for a pint of Guinness is a little outrageous considering the "service" was literally just pouring it.

The pub has potential but a man was extremely rude to us (we think the manager). Our friend ordered a vegan chicken burger and a different burger came and we complained and he kept saying ‘this is what you ordered, what you ordered is on the table’. We then complained again and finally they agreed to actually give the right burger as they sent a vegan beef not a vegan chicken burger, The exact same thing also happened to the table next to us, so it looks like they send you the wrong thing and then try to make out that you’re the one who’s made a mistake. Very strange service

Went there on NYE, for lunch. The staff were so amazing all day, they really looked after us, we had a great time. The pub is also big and bright and comfortable to spend many hours there!

We came here for dinner and a drink on December 27th. I told the bartender I wanted a cider but he kept trying to convince me to get a cocktail. It was annoying but I think it was more a case of trying to be funny rather than pressuring me for an upsell. They were out of a lot of their meal options, no doubt owing to being busy over Christmas, which was a shame, but we both ate burgers and they were tasty. It’s nicely presented pub from the massive Stonegate Group.

I had a wonderful birthday afternoon tea with The Angelic. What a day to remember! Hats off to the great head chef who tailor made a delicious afternoon tea (the best we've ever had!) Such tasty warm food, portion abundant- had to take half home! And delightful atmosphere. The bar staff are excellent, looked after us and showed what hospitality really is. We shall visit this wonderful Islington gem again, treat yourself for a reasonably priced afternoon tea or meal here, you won't be disappointed! Thank you! 😊

My partner and I recently celebrated a special event at this venue following our wedding, and I cannot express enough how positively overwhelmed we were by the exceptional service provided by the staff. From the moment we stepped in, the staff went above and beyond, showcasing unparalleled kindness, thoughtfulness, and genuine dedication to ensuring our celebration was nothing short of perfect. The food and cocktails were delicious, well presented and great value for the number of guests we had (they have a great canapés menu for events). The upstairs room, where our event took place, has a cool ceiling/story and was painted by an artist who lived opposite the pub. You can play your own music - it created a great atmosphere for our celebration. The staff's attention to detail and commitment to making every moment enjoyable truly set this place apart. We were already fans of the pub for its cosy and homely atmosphere, which is precisely why we chose it for our celebration. However, after the incredible experience we had, we are beyond excited to become regulars. Our heartfelt thanks to the entire team for making our special day even more memorable. We look forward to many more visits in the future and thanks so much!!

A very disappointing Sunday roast, the equivalent to a microwavable meal. It has a quarter of a carrot (literally), half a parsnip, 1 broccoli stem (2 if you're lucky!), 2 tiny mangetouts, a sea of Bisto gravy, 3 soggy roast potatoes and 2 spoons of tasteless mash, and one piece of very dry, overcooked, low quality beef. Let's not forget the Yorkshire pudim, probably from a frozen bag. No seasoning, no taste. All of it for £18!

We were looking for a family pub and decent food, that's exactly what we got. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff and the food was fairly priced also. The space was great for our kids also.

Came for the F1 and dinner on a Sunday. On their website you can book especially for this. Slightly disappointing, they sat us in front of the Football to start, so we reminded the staff that our booking was for F1. Then they said it wasn’t possible to play the sound and played loud music instead. I just think if they are advertising booking F1 tables that there would be more attention to this but didn’t meet my expectations. For food we ordered fish and chips, a chicken burger and a beef roast. It was not bad.
