Dinner here with my wife yesterday was lovely. The food was great, and the atmosphere perfect! I'd say the customer service from the 3 waitresses was fantastic - welcoming and friendly. Would definitely recommend to anyone searching for a lovely meal. We shared 6 oysters, seafood paella and crab/ lobster cocktail. All 3 dishes were grand! If we're ever in the area again, we'll 100% be visiting 👍🏻

Lovely restaurant experience. The decor was quirky and great to look at, the staff were very pleasant and helpful and the food was delicious! Also, they know how to make a mean cappuccino. Best I've had for while!

I can't praise the Angel highly enough. The food is always superb, and the staff are welcoming and attentive. The fish dishes are the star of the show, and the casual feel of the place makes for a great experience. My favourite is the Anchovies on toast, which sounds simple but is simply heaven on a plate. There's always a good selection of specials on the menu and an extensive drinks selection. Dog friendly, too. Brilliant all round.

A Nautical Affair at The Angel: Lord Nelson's Culinary Ménage à Trois Ahoy, adventurous gastronomes! Prepare to embark on a culinary voyage like no other at The Angel in Ludlow, where history meets hilarity in a tale of love, scandal, and scrumptious fare. Nestled within the quaint walls of what was once witness to Lord Nelson's legendary ménage à trois, this establishment has transformed from a rendezvous of romance to a haven for food enthusiasts. As you step into The Angel, you can almost hear the echoes of Lord Nelson's charming laughter bouncing off the ancient walls. The ambiance is a delightful blend of classic elegance and cheeky allure, much like the man himself. The restaurant manages to capture the essence of its scandalous past while maintaining an air of refined sophistication. The menu, much like Lord Nelson's love life, is a diverse affair. Start your culinary escapade with the "Nautical Nibbles," a selection of appetizers that promise to set the tone for the evening. The "Admiral's Artichoke Dip" and "Mistress Mussels" are particularly enticing, each bite leaving you longing for more, much like the historic trio's entanglements. For the main course, the "Love Triangle Linguine" is a must-try. This pasta dish weaves a tale of flavors, with each strand telling a different story. The combination of seafood, scandalous spices, and a hint of rebellion makes for a truly memorable dish. The dessert menu is where The Angel truly spreads its wings. The "Sweet Seduction Soufflé" pays homage to Lord Nelson's ability to sweet talk his way into anyone's heart. The velvety texture and sinful sweetness make it a fitting end to this culinary adventure. The service at The Angel is as attentive as a lover's gaze, with the staff seamlessly navigating between history and hilarity. They manage to uphold the restaurant's romantic reputation while ensuring that your dining experience remains light-hearted and enjoyable. In conclusion, The Angel in Ludlow is not just a restaurant; it's a theatrical experience that brings history to life on your plate. Lord Nelson's ménage à trois may be a thing of the past, but the legacy lives on in the delightful concoctions served within these walls. So, gather your own trio of companions and set sail for an evening of laughter, scandal, and utterly scrumptious cuisine!

Disappointing. Decor good. Waitress friendly. However, bench seat downstairs was hard & uncomfortable. There were blasts of cold air on our backs whenever the front door was opened. Noise from nearby kitchen + some music, made conversation with our guests hard to hear. All food was just warm & needed re-heating. Quality of fish was good. Spinach was stringy. Will not be returning. Not the relaxing, enjoyable evening we had been looking forward to. I consider the Angel to be over priced and pretentious.

Sadly, we were disappointed. The food was interesting although limited choice.. lots of fish but not much else and very few vegetables. The hake was delicious but presented with tinned tomatoes and a tiny dish of spinach. I had scallops but again only a tiny dish of spinach, although I have to say that the potato with olives was delicious. The desserts were disappointing - chocolate profiteroles were smeared with dry chocolate mouse not sauce; the rum baba was soaked in sugar syrup with a mere hint of rum and a small spoonful of mascapone. When charging £25 for a lunch main one expects the place to be at least clean and 'presentable' - we were not comfortable there. 'Grubby cafe' was nearer the mark. The tables had two 'bright and cheerful' printed paper table-coverings which didn't properly cover the table, and were torn and stained - not much more than functional. I would have expected white tablecloths - my commonplace experience on the Continent. The upholstery was grubby - stained and impacted by how many hands? The Angel was recommended by friends as I wanted a special meal, but sadly, we left disappointed.

Do yourself a favour, stay in Ludlow, book several evening meals here if you can. Beautifully cooked largely fish and shellfish done Mediterranean style. Cardinal sauce exquisite. Super friendly, very helpful staff, yet always respectful, whilst remembering your name after one visit, (great attention to detail thank you Sasha and the team). Great atmosphere too. It takes something very, very special to keep me away from a south Indian restaurant with a different menu to run of the mill, and a promising Thai noshery too, the Angel did this for me. Highly recommended due it being owned by the couple who own neighbouring Cicchetti so we booked for dinner. This is more Spanish than its Italian neighbour. Pavement seating available but we opted to eat in - very quirky interior was welcoming but cases of juice etc were visible under sofa seating & although it’s off the wall decor & bric a beach is part of its appeal it needs a tidy up. Some stuff was totally inconsistent with a Spanish theme? My main was described as monkfish with clams so I assumed it was a piece of monkfish with baby clams in a sauce so I asked the waitress for vegetables such as new potatoes and anything else - she was nonplussed and did not describe the dish just offering tomatoes? In fact the fish is served on a skewer on a bed of tomato sauce. It was filling and delicious - the vegetables I asked for would not have worked with it - something she should have known. Nonetheless the food was excellent & this is a restaurant with its own personality & well worth a visit

The Angel, Ludlow is a ‘serious’ place, for ‘Serious Diners Only’. In fact The Angel, Ludlow, is the self proclaimed Serious Diners Club HQ. This is attested to in signs within the restaurant (Restaurant, NOT a pub), as well as the website and many reminders frequently given on the venue’s Facebook page. I have been curious to know what the definition of a Serious Diner is, and what it might take to be considered for the coveted membership of thre Serious Diners Club. Following my recent experience booking a Sunday lunch with a friend at The Angel, I have deduced the following, which I will share with you: 1) SERIOUS DINERS ARE PUNCTUAL: Have you ever been 5, 10 or even 15 minutes late to a reservation before? If so, then I’m afraid you are not in the Serious Diners Club. “But it wasn’t my fault, there was traffic!”, I hear you say, or “My toddler had a sudden aversion to shoes and it took us 10 minutes to leave the house”.....it doesn’t matter. The Serious Diner doesn’t use unforeseen events as an excuse for not being on time. 2) SERIOUS DINERS EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED: The website tells you the restaurant (NOT a pub) closes at 5pm, you call to book a table at 2:30 and are helpfully informed on the phone that they do, indeed, close at 5pm. You call to inform the restaurant (NOT pub) that you’re running late...”that’s fine, but just so you know we stop serving at 4pm”, “no problem!” you say, naively. You arrive, late - as expected by both parties -, and are told the Chef won’t cook for you. Are you surprised?? Yes?? Hahahaha, you amateur!! A Serious Diner would never rely on information given to them by a seemingly credible source. A Serious Diner second guesses everything and everyone. A Serious Diner has the unexpected expectation to expect the unexpected....FACT. 3) SERIOUS DINERS DO NOT DINE: In this third, and final, twist of the puzzle in what it truly means to be a Serious Diner, the answer may surprise you (and if it does, you must already start the path of acceptance that you are not a Serious Diner...see point 2). If you are really serious about dining like really REALLY serious, you will never approach a restaurant (NOT pub) expecting to be served food. Yes, this does seem completely bat s**t counter intuitive to the purpose of going to a restaurant to our simple, regular diner brains, but the Serious Diner knows not to expect to eat, they are unfazed. They simply move along, holding on tightly to their Serious Diners Clubcard hidden in a secret silk-lined pocket of their Club issued trenchcoat. A Serious Diner doesn’t concern themselves with the frivolities of food consumption. They are in “The Club”. So, do you think you have what it takes to be in the Serious Diners Club? Do you? Do YOU? There’s only one way to find out, book a table at Serious Diners Club HQ and remember, if you eat....you’ve failed.

Incredibly rude staff. When we arrived, there was no greeting just a “I don’t think he will cook for you as you are late” (granted we were 10 mins late at no fault of our own). When the chef arrived, the waitress said, “do you want to cook for them?” And the chef said “if you arrived for a 2pm train and you arrived late would it wait for you” this was said in a be try aggressive manor. He then mumbled something under his breath. Dispite being told on the phone that they stop serving food at 5! I understand we were late and if he had just told us that we are too late sorry, we would have understood. Poor customer service!

Greeted by extremely rude red haired woman ‘did you book’ yes we did thank you “upstairs then by the piano” - no hello, welcome, will show you to your table and certainly no smile! As vegetarians we asked what the vegetarian platter was? “Sorry don’t know maybe some cheese and stuff”? For £14 we got roast potatoes, lump of cheese, some peppers and bread which we paid extra for. It was only another waitress who managed to bring some tomatoes - no crudités, flatbread, dips and certainly nothing Spanish. Oh and the toilet corridor was a complete tip just looks like a store cupboard - glad you don’t need repeat business

So, in the midst of Covid restrictions, and on a rainy Saturday afternoon when only outside dining is allowed, we had the most amazing late lunch. Be prepared to wait (but use your time wisely to select from the handwritten menu), then relax and enjoy - you won't be disappointed. We recommend the Moules a la creme, the smoked fish platter and the house red. Best venue in Ludlow

If you quality sea food dishes this is the place within unique surroundings this place is not to be missed. Have eaten there 4 times in the last 3 months and have never been disappointed. The owner Martyn does wonderful things from the small kitchen. You can select from a range of small tapas dishes or go for something more substantial. The menu regularly changes. You can have draught wines or choose from a much wider selection of bottled wines.

A really interesting menu that is prepared & presented with care. Service is friendly & you are often welcomed by the owner. The menu includes lots of small plates so you can try a selection which were all good. The setting is beautiful being one of the old medieval pubs in the heart of Ludlow. Ideally grab a window seat from where you can look up the street to the Buttermarket. The decor is quirky with plenty of conversation pieces & the atmosphere is cosy. I will be back

I loved the food .. the atmosphere and the friendly staff. I ordered a takeaway after work. It was amazing and definitely will go back again. It is like a small, cosy restaurant, and all the decorations made me nostalgic. I remembered my trip to Turkey. I forgot to take pictures 😂

Our friends and us had a lovely meal, the service was super and nothing was too much trouble. They explained the menus and made sure everything was clear. The food was delicious and made a nice change to the normal fare we often get. There were no complaints and the bill was reasonable.

If you want something really different this is the place, a little taste of Greece in Shrewsbury. Food owner and staff brilliant. The owner showed us the garden at the rear can't wait for warmer weather to go and eat outside just like being in a Greek taverna on an island in the med, give this a try especially if you like authentic Greek food and hospitality

Great wine bar in the heart of Whitchurch. Perfect for pre dinner drinks!
