I loved the food .. the atmosphere and the friendly staff. I ordered a takeaway after work. It was amazing and definitely will go back again. It is like a small, cosy restaurant, and all the decorations made me nostalgic. I remembered my trip to Turkey. I forgot to take pictures 😂

Always a treat to come here. Came for my Wife's birthday and was a great start to the weekend. Superb authentic Turkish cuisine. The charcoal grill really adds to the taste. If you have left room after your dinner, you have to have the rice pudding!

Food is good but expense is on the higher side.

Ordered the 4 person platter. The hot and cold mezze were as per expectation. The grilled meat and kebabs were sumptuous. Loved the chicken wings and the fillets.

Great sharing platter with just yummy mezze and bread basket was the winner’ kofte and Adana were amazing too. Welldone

We were here for a pre theatre supper. We had really delicious, freshly prepared food with prompt service. It was hard to choose what to have but as we are definitely going to return we can work our way through the menu.

Amazing food and excellent service. We started with a nice bottle of the Sauvignon blanc and the mixed hot meze. My partner couldn’t speak more highly of the chicken thighs and I had a fantastic mixed grill. This is another one of my regularly eateries in Shrewsbury and it will continue to be so.

We've eaten in around 20 places in Shrewsbury and this is in the top 3. Everything from the service to the food was excellent. As we didn't know what to order we had the sharer for 4 at £70, although there were only 3 of us. Everything wes lovely but it did defeat us. No problem, they boxed it up and we had tea for the next night. We will be going back soon because the fish, which we didn't have, looked too good to miss.

Don't mess about with the menu, trust me. Just understand that when entering his premises you need to order the sharing meat special. Be that for 2 or 4. There is literally no point in even considering anything else on the menu. Not because the food is of poor quality, heck no. But simply becuase that little special tucked away on its own in the menu is one of the best and most authentic meals you are ever going to experience. Forget Auntie pats rhubarb crumble, or nans yourkshire puddings. This meal will make the most emotionless brick shed a tear. The meat, charred, but tender, juicy and sweet. The grazing- exceptional and fresh The rice.... oh the rice. Simple, but positioned under all of that succulent meat, sucking in all of that goodness and getting ready to send your taste bud to ibiza and then full orbit You. Are. Welcome.

This was our third visit to Istanbul and the first time we were dissatisfied. E We went early doors pre theatre trip and were the first group to arrive> We started with a sharing hot platter which included sea food, cheese and meet dishes. The squid was not hot and very stringy and other foods were not very warm. The main course arrived whilst we were still eating the strter. I mentioned that we were not ready for the main course to the waitress and this was ignored, The main course was also not very hot and devoid of any vegetables just meet and rice and no sauce. As we were the first in the retaurant it is hard to explain how they could get the timing of the courses so wrong and a not ensure the food was hot. Allm in all very disappointing visit - we will not be returning

Celebrated our wedding anniversary with delicious food plus Turkish wine and excellent service. Would recommend the hot meze for 2 starter. Lovely relaxed evening.

Ordered with JustEat, dishes were expensive for what you got. Falafels were overcooked and dry. They did provide fresh focaccia bread which helped as the portions were small. Maybe the experience is better in person so may try again in the future.

Went here last night and had an excellent meal for two. The portions are generous to say the least! The quality equally so. The waitress ('Sisi') could not have been more friendly and helpful and we chatted to her at length. We must point out that a review from the same evening describes the restaurant as being dirty and too expensive - definitely not in our opinion! Prices are normal restaurant prices and you definitely get your money's worth. The surroundings are clean and comfortable. Only gave 4 for atmosphere because it was a Monday evening and Shrewsbury tends to be very quiet earlier in the week. We will be back. Well worth a visit and thanks to Sisi - a great host!

We decided to have the Istanbul special for 2, which was exceptional. Mixed mezes followed by a selection of meats. All food was first class, as was the house white wine. Beware, make sure you are hungry as the portions and quality are both generous

This truly was one of the worst meals I have ever had. One hour in we hadn’t had our mains. They should get more than one microwave! Nothing fresh about this food and pricey to say the least. Extremely disappointed.

First visit for a pre Theatre meal and what a delight. Only two waiting staff and the lad was only on his 2nd day but excellent service. Food was delicious. Can’t wait for our next visit to try other dishes.

I've been to the Istanbul restaurant twice now and each time I have come away wanting to go back again. The menu is varied and the food is of excellent quality. Service is very friendly and prompt and the overall atmosphere is of being on holiday in my home town.

Whilst on s short break In Shrewsbury had tickets for a show and went for a pre theatre meal and what a treat it was. Very warm welcome from staff and well attended to by them. Having ordered our meals we were treated to complimentary bread and dips which were very nice. Starters and main courses were delicious and very filling. All in all an excellent choice and if I; the area again would pay a visit.

Had a great meal here last night. Service was really good. I had the stuffed aubergine. Good atmosphere too.

Came in as a walk in, accommodated quickly and politely. Mixed kebab and shisha were spot on. Calamari to start was nice crispy and fresh. Waitress was very attentive and efficient. Would definitely come back.

Got a takeaway on Friday and it was delicious! I used to live in an area of London with a high Turkish population so great Turkish restaurants and this was just as good!!

I won a meal for 2 people for valentines night, just come from there & I can honestly say what an amazing meal & hospitality, the place was decorated with heart balloons & I received a lovely real rose & some chocolates, which was a lovely touch, the starters were lovely & cooked so nicely, then we had our mains, I had chicken cooked in a clay oven & homemade chips & salad, my husband had lamb chops & homemade chips, it was so delicious, we didn't leave anything, then we had pudding which was a lovely finish to the amazing meal, the cocktails were yummy too, will definitely be back, & I would recommend this place if you want quality food with great service, & can't thank them enough for our lovely meal

Just wanted to say that we had a great meal at Istanbul in Shrewsbury. Service and food were exceptional and at the end of our meal a birthday cake and candles was presented to my son. Such a lovely gesture and very much appreciated. Would definitely recommend this family run, friendly restaurant to anyone.

We've been meaning to try this place for a while. It always seems full and is well recommended. We found the service was poor and the food was okish. Perhaps we've been spoiled by great Turkish in the past, but this wasn't. Salads not at all Turkish, dips come with tiny portions of breads although you can ask for me, and the specials just seem to be a platter of rice with bbq meat on top. Not a pitta in sight. Turkish mezze can be DELICIOUS, we were disappointed. It didn't help that service was friendly but rubbish.

Traipsed through a wet and miseable town centre to visit and I'm pmeased i did. Admittedly it was quiet but the storm and the powt-Xmas lull would account for that, so I ordered an Efes and perused the menu. Some complimentary bread and dips arrived but i managed to resist the urge to demolish them, and opted for the Kasarli Etli Lavas. It was like a cross between enchiladas and a lasagne, with soft, tender meat wrapped in bread and smothered in a mozzarella sauce. Had a good chat with the owner who was very friendly, and I'll definitely be calling in again on my next Salopian sojourn.

My wife and I have been there more than 20 times in the last 2 years. But unfortunately they lost 2 customers now. We were there the other day, we order some food and some half pints. When we received the bill, we were surpised about the price of the half pints: 4.99 pounds each. We thought that it was a mistake, we did ask to the woman working in the place. Her answer was completely unprofesional and very anoying: "I don´t put the prices". We did ask how much is the pint, she said 5.9 pounds. So half is 4.9 and full pint 5.9. We told the woman that it doesnt make any sense and she said: "These are the prices". We were very dissapointed not just because the nonsense abussive price for the half pint, also because the poor service. My email adress is jgvecos@gmail, just in case the owner wants to apologise, as I think it is the minimum he/she should do.

We booked a table for 8:15 but actually got to our table at 8:45 ad they were not ready for us. We ordered drinks with it 10 mins but had to another 15 before they were delivered and it was simply two bottles of wine. Starter came about 10 mins later and was ok and the bread and dips were tasty. For main I ordered kofta in a clay pot and it was basically beef patty in tomato sauce covered in cheese. I ate it because I was hungry and it was late. A fried order two meat skewers for £14 and what came out was terrible it look d like a cheap £1 skewer from a frozen food shop. Each main dish was disappointing for the price. Lacking in flavour. The service was not great with the waiter having no clue on what he was bringing to the table. The toilets were old and broken. Not sure how this place has been rated so highly.

Really fresh great tasting food! We had the mixed grill and the chicken with yoghurt sauce and it was really very good. You could taste the charcoal, and it made a really refreshing change to have something different on a rainy October evening. Yes the decor is dated, but it feels authentic and had a homely feel. I would definitely be back next time I’m in the area!

Worst part was the service. Restaurant was busy but we waited a good 30 mins for starters and they didn't come together. For maybe 10 minutes one of the party watched us eat. One small basket of bread between 4, very slow on refills again. Food was okay, not mind blowing and not the best Turkish food I've had. Handful of chips and some chicken on a plate, although tasty, was lacking. Probably wouldn't go again, £100 for 4 people with no alcohol or deserts was steep especially when we were waiting for a lot of the time.

Great food Fair pricing Excellent service - the young man was alone on the restaurant floor and he never once got flustered and looked after us well. Highly recommended ⭐️

We go for a short break in Shrewsbury about 2 or 3 times a year and always go to the Istanbul. This time we went twice in 2 days and the food without exception was fantastic once again.

Outstandingly good food, and great service. We had the lamb shish and grilled chicken with aubergine based sauce. The flavouring was spot on, clear but subtle. The Turkish wine was a great accompaniment.

Very disappointed small portions,overpriced, and swimming in yogurt been to turkish restaurants before and always loved it but this place was a complete letdown.

Came here for my birthday on 24.7. The restaurant had a card for me, decorated the table with happy birthday sprinkles and even had a cake for me! Sevil was amazing, she was doing all of the front of house, drinks, serving on her own and did it all with a smile and was just brilliant. Food was amazing also. Will definitely be back!

Our visitors booked on the day for a party of 6. We arrived at 5pm warmly welcomed by waiter (on his own - front of house). Seated and drinks ordered and speedily delivered. Menus brought and no pressure to order! Complementary bread, olives and dips brought (gluten free catered for). Ordered mains and wines. My blue steak arrived perfectly cooked and all other dishes perfectly prepared and presented. Our waiter was attentive and checked satisfaction. Sweets ordered and timely served. Our party enjoyed the experience and our recommendation was truly justified. Thanks to all at Istanbul for a smashing evening.

Our son got his degree result. We booked online and arrived to a table with a congratulations card and a table with confetti on. The food was DELICIOUS, it couldn't have been better. My son was brought a cake with a firework in it. They packed it up for us to take home...we were so full we couldn't eat it. The food was plentiful and delicious. I can't thank The Istanbul BBQ enough for making our celebration so special.

I had Imman bayeldi and hubby had Koftas and we both thought the food was really good quality. It was preceded by complimentary meze of bread, olives and dips. The meal itself came with rice and a salad to share.

Highly recommended for quality food, excellent service and a really pleasant all round experience! We have visited here a few times now, normally as a pre-theatre dinner, and every time we are impressed with the quality food and customer service received. The restaurant is located directly opposite the main entrance to Theatre Severn, and a very short walk from the Frankwell carpark, so access is very easy. On all the times we have visited, we have booked through the web site. We have always received a response within a couple of hours to confirm booking. The food is delicious and the variety is really good. Plenty of vegetarian options too. The set meals are also excellent value. On our last visit there was a pre-theatre option for £49.95, which included a shared starter plate, shared mixed grill plate for main and a bottle of wine. We will definitely be returning very soon!

I was served an item marked as Vegan on the menu which included a yoghurt dip and a portion of rice cooked in butter, which is incredibly misleading and irresponsible. Staff were friendly and helpful and replaced these items, but there is a a clear lack of understanding of basic dietary requirements and allergy guidance which implores me to discourage anyone from visiting if you have intolerances or won't eat specific foods.

The taste is medium. I am sure they can make a bit more flavor with herbs and spices. Portion size is ok for the price and the restaurant looks clean and tidy.

We came here when we were on holiday last week. Lovely young couple running it. Excellent Turkish food and will come again when we are in the area again.

Had a lovely dinner here yesterday. Clean, unpretentious, bright and comfortable, with plenty of nearby parking. Extensive menu with well presented sections (in rather worn rigid folders) and very cheerful and helpful advice. Really tasty food, piping hot and well presented. €50 for an excellent meal, including drinks for two, left us very full of food and pleasant memories.

Excellent rack of lamb. Cannot fault any part of my experience.

Great Service, but unfortunately food was not the best. Had wings and rice, wings felt under seasoned and rice was not fluffy but slightly sticky. Expected a mixed type of rice, not just plain white rice, portion was small too.

Love, love, love this place, had booked a table prior to going to Theatre Severn, a very authentic menu, the food was excellent, service was first class. We will definitely be going back. Thank you Istanbul for a memorable evening.
