Absolutely lovely food and brilliant service! Came for my nans birthday and explained that it was a special night and they went above and beyond for us! It was so friendly and welcoming in the restaurant! Will be coming back

F*cking awful food well expensive do not go we went in for a meal and ordered 3 courses as as they came out each was worse than the last definitely DO NOT RECOMMEND

We have dined at The Angel a few times over the years, but not in the last 18 months. On looking at some recent reviews I was apprehensive about visiting and so was wonderfully surprised with our delicious experience. I had the gammon which was well cooked and with a full selection of complimentary additions. The chips and onion rings were particularly good. It was the best that I've had for a number of years. The puddings were tasty and a generous size with each course being served at a gentle pace so that we didn’t feel rushed to order nor eat. The staff were very cheerful and helpful especially with the little changes that we requested to one or two items. Thank you all at The Angel.

The menu is entirely gluten free which is wonderful, it's so good to be able to choose anything on the menu :) Service was friendly. The food was excellent, especially the scotch egg and lasagne. Prices are a bit higher than we would have liked but are in keeping with meals out in many places, and we had a very enjoyable time. Would recommend, especially if you are coeliac.

We arrived on market day and didnt think we would be seated but we were. Bonus you could buy gluten free pies. The pub is exclusively gluten free and what a great choice of food available. The food was quick to arrive and must be the best fish and chips Ive had. Will definitely be coming back.

The limited menu was not all available. The food was mediocre and minimal. The staff were inexperienced. The coffee machine was bring cleaned down before we finished eating do not offered.

I've been meaning to visit the Angel for ages to try their gluten free menu. Finally made the trip and it was 100% worth it! The food was fantastic. I had the homemade pie, which had a nice vegetable filling and a light, crumbly crust. For dessert I had the sticky toffee pudding. Delicious! The pub itself is very cosy and welcoming, staff were helpful and all in all I had a very relaxing time. So much easier when everything i gluten free! Also lots of dairy free options. I can't wait to go back. Thank you so much to the Angel for your dedication to coeliacs! Don't take the sticky toffee pudding off the menu!

Went here for a nice Sunday dinner and we were massively surprised at how much selection there was on the menus. It was amazing not to worry about gluten as a Celiac it was amazing to know that everything would be safe for me to eat. They also had dairy, vegan and vegetarian alternatives! Staff were very kind and caring. 10/10 recommend

Every coeliac needs to visit this place, it's a must! ! Loved it here, it has excellent gluten free choices, I was told the whole menu was gluten free!! Was great not worrying about what I'm eating and food was delicious! The scotch eggs were soooo good! Nice GF IPA to wash it all down. Made a booking and needed to move the time, they kindly accommodated us. Staff were friendly and really helpful. Sadly only visiting, wish it was closer to home!!

Lovely food, wide menu, very pleasant location. Excellent for gluten free. My daughter and I finally made the journey to The Angel at Holmesfield and I'm so glad we did. The quality and choice far exceeded my expectations, and the staff were lovely. The menu and specials had something to appeal to everyone and food was genuinely lovely. I also had a beautiful pint of draught bitter. For those who don't know, the Angel is fully GF and hence coeliac safe. This shouldn't put any muggles off though as they would never know!

A warm welcome and really good food. As a recently diagnosed coeliac it was a treat to choose anything from the menu. My non-coeliac family were also very happy with their food. I didn’t think it was expensive for what we ate. There was quite a wait for the food which didn’t matter to us as we weren’t in a hurry. Will definitely be back.

Went for Sunday lunch today, booked a table a week before. Arrived on time and got seated in the bar. Drinks ordered & delivered fairly quickly then placed food order. Starters arrived, which were really nice then it all went down hill from there. We had to wait approximately an hour for the main courses to arrive. I appreciate that it was a busy Sunday so normally wouldn’t have an issue with waiting, however when the food arrived it was over cooked. The roast pork was extremely dry & didn’t come with any crackling or stuffing (we did ask for crackling and this was brought out). The Yorkshire pudding was also extremely dry. No member of staff asked us how the main course was so didn’t have opportunity to feedback at the time. I’d heard good things about this place but left feeling disappointed overall which is a shame.

We visited The Angel today for lunch and the whole experience was amazing. The menu is 100% gluten free and as a coeliac I was so spoiled for choice! The owners and staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. I would definitely recommend The Angel and we will be back!

My sister and I had a very nice lunch here today. I have recently been diagnosed as Coeliac and it was so nice to be able to look at a menu knowing I could make a choice without having to check whether it contained any gluten and without worrying about cross contamination. The food, the staff, service and atmosphere were all excellent. Someone on the next table had the fish and chips which looked amazing - I will definitely be back to try those!

Amazing restaurant. I’m coeliac so it’s always a worry eating out when I’m away, finding a 100% gluten free restaurant is a real treat, even better when the food is as good as it is at the Angel. My non GF husband said the sticky toffee pudding was the best he’d had and his steak pie was stuffed with meat. I was so stuffed from mains I barely touched my dessert, one of the largest cheesecake portions I’d ever seen, it was in a huge glass and came with huge cookie. Wish I’d left more room and that I lived closer so I could visit again. Basically if you need to eat gluten free you have to eat here.

Went last night, the food and service was excellent. The refurbishment has been tastefully done & is a big improvement on what was before, with masking tape keeping the old carpet together. Would highly recommend.

There was nothing at all wrong with The Angel, prior to it changing hands. Why the new owners/tenants felt the need to meddle with both the decor (in the main restaurant) and the menu, is baffling. The service, previously, had been excellent. Maybe I’m a bit old school, but I like my drinks order taken upon arrival rather than having to get the attention of giggling girls chatting behind the bar, and then to be asked ‘if I’d like to see the dessert menu?’ after the main course, rather than ‘do you want anything else?’ The food was ok, but there is a feeling you’re paying restaurant prices for pub food. The Angel used to have a slight air of class and occasion about it, sadly when we visited, it was just above a Wetherspoons’.

We've just made our first visit to The Angel and it won't be our last. It's a typical country pub that is dog-friendly which, in my opinion, is a sign of a good family pub. The staff are very friendly and helpful but what makes The Angel stand out is the absolutely fantastic food on offer. Everything on the menu is gluten free and you will have to travel a long way to find food of similar quality. Highly recommended and worth a visit - even if you don't require GF.

Such a shame this place has decided on style over substance , once a warm welcoming local country pub it clearly now sees itself as a high end gastronomic outlet with prices to match . Having ordered the steak we were disappointed to find the fries cold as were the mushrooms and the steak itself was not only chewy but it was impossible to cut . Needless to say we paid our drinks bill ( complete with a service charge !!!!!! ) made our excuses and left . Hopefully an isolated case but wouldn't return to try again

The Angel is set in a pleasant location and was selected for a family birthday meal. On arrival there was nobody to meet or greet us and we were left walking around trying identity which was our table. Once seated, the drinks order was taken but delivery was slow, suggest that a tray is used as opposed to bringing drinks two at a time. Even though the place was quiet, we still needed to find someone to take our food order. Our starters arrived after what was a just about acceptable wait. Again would suggest that parties with children are asked if the kids meals should be served with the starters or mains. When the starters were served we asked for the kids meals to be served asap but they came with the main meals, again served two at a time from the kitchen. Multiple servers would have allowed us all to start eating at the same time. The mains were of mixed quality, very hard pastry on a pie, steaks that were hard to cut and no offer of steak knives until the server came to check on the food. Even then the steak knives didn’t arrive. The saving grace was the sticky toffee pudding which was easily the best dish of the evening. Not sure if the team was stretched too far by a sudden influx of customers or not, but a few tweaks to the service side of the offering are required.

Had a beautiful meal. All dietary requirements taken into consideration. The food was very tasty and nicely cooked. The presentation was also very good. Staff were attentive. The service was slower than expected but this allowed time for food to be digested and for there to be room for desert. (They were short staffed and they apologised). We travelled from 50 minutes away and we’re not disappointed. We would love to return at another time.

Went here for a meal with friends and check it out for my family and clubs. Good space, comfortable, nice decor and a nice coal fire. The food and drink was excellent. The service was a bit slow - just how I would want it as it gave us a change to socialise and enjoy conversations and the wine. Came for a social, relaxing evening and were not rushed. Even had a coffee, unlike the trend in some restaurants where they want you out quickly or have limited time slots/sessions. We went on a wednesday for a quiet & relaxing evening, which is what we got.

Excellent food, excellent service, excellent ambiance. Catered to all dietary needs. Wholeheartedly recommend. Will be back.

The food was great, the drinks were great. The welcome we received was lovely. Wouldn't hesitate to come back. Yes, you may be able to get a slightly cheaper meal elsewhere, but you get what you pay for - so it won't be as good as this. The food at the Angel is excellent value. See you again soon.

Having travelled past for 20 years and noticing how busy the place was, we decided that we would give the place a try for Sunday lunch. what a disappointment this was. Firstly, the staff members in the restaurant (all 4 of them) were faultless. they were polite and very attentive. This was probably the only good point of the restaurant. We ordered food. my husband asked for the pigs in blankets as a bar snack. these arrived in a timely manner, on the downside was they were just 6 small sausages with no bacon blankets. I ordered the roast loin of pork and my husband decided on the roast beef. My loin of pork arrived; it was horrendous, cheap tasting pork loin (more like a bacon chop to me) no crackling (as it advertises on the menu) 2 roast potatoes 1 parsnip 1 carrot, pureed mash potatoes, a couple of pieces of broccoli and some cauliflower cheese brought separately, all of which were clock cold and totally tasteless. my husbands dinner was also very cold. it was a total disaster for a meal. I would not recommend this place for food. It is overpriced for the portion sizes and quality. we left having left the food. we did not pay for the food but did pay for the drinks as we consumed them. They did say we didn't have to pay for the drinks.

Good lunch, waiters very polite and helpful and the best thing was being able to choose anything on the menu as everything is gluten free ( with vegan options available.

Portion size was ridiculously small for the very expensive cost. Sorry, we will no longer travel over an hour for a round trip just because its gluten free. It's just too expensive and we left hungry!
