Went here for Sunday lunch, total waste of money and won’t return. Beef was like rubber, potatoes vegetables and Yorkshire pudding cold, parsnips like mush and cottages cheese which was not only cold but in my opinion was just cauliflower with a bit of dressing over it, not cottage cheese at all. Gents toilets disgusting to the point you need to hold your breath, although the floor tiles are cleaner than the wall tiles, taps loose when turning on, generally although I know it’s a very old building it wouldn’t be a bad idea to spend some money on it and make it a bit more appealing and maybe add some staff that actually want to work there and serve you. Manners cost nothing.

Zac was amazing. So attentive, very polite and kind. Wonderful service.

After a day that wasn't great my friend and I went to the angel for a meal. To say it was good is an understatement, my friend is a coeliac and our server Zac asked for assistance which came from yaz they both explained the restrictions and limitations on the menu. Our meals arrived both were superb and filling and the extra special dessert made by Yaz was the perfect finish to a great meal. I whole heartedly recommend coming here.

This is my new local, I come with my mum and grandad, and we always feel welcome and comfortable in the angel. The staff are very kind and helpful, especially Megan the general manager. She recognises us every time and chats to us. The atmosphere is very warm and pretty. We have got the 3 for £10 plates a few times and are always spoilt for choice. The food is lovely and portion sizes are great value for money. Lovely pub xx

just had one of most frequent visits with the Angel. Once again spot on. Consistency is key and the team just nail it. They’ll listen to you if you’re concerned or have a slight issue and will always go out their way to fix anything. Always 10/10 for us.

Amazing atmosphere and mouthwatering food. I cannot recommend the mac and cheese with brisket enough!! Special shoutout to Steve for exceptional service! We can’t wait to visit again soon!

I booked a table of 19 for my Daughter's 18th birthday and things couldn't have gone any better. Meghan and Steve were both brilliant on the night; polite, charming and couldn't have been more helpful, constantly checking we were ok and if there was anything we needed. I was also in touch with Meghan in the run up to the meal and nothing was too much trouble for her. Steve is fabulous and an absolute character, everyone loved him. They are both great assets to The Angel and Vintage Inns. All the food was very tasty and it came out piping hot, which is no mean feat when there is19 of you. We had no complaints and all our guests said how much they enjoyed it. I booked this off the back of my 50th birthday meal which we held there and was also amazing, so I'm delighted it wasn't a one off. We will be back for sure.

Wonderful pub, tasty food, lovely pint!

Poor service - waitress left our food without cutlery or condiments despite passing the cutlery station on the way to serving us. No forks were then available when we walked back across the large garden to collect. Very cool dinners to eat once this was sorted. Not the best way to gain repeat business. In response to your reply I can assure you we were not informed we needed to pick up cutlery when ordering at the bar otherwise of course we would have done so. Your waitress very firmly advised us to collect our own when delivering our food. Her attitude was not friendly and therefore it was not really an option to request further assistance from her.

Such a good lunch, I was welcomed by Sarah, not treated like a leper as a solo diner I asked to reserve the root veg wellington, which was delicious Steve was my host, nothing too much trouble Sarah told she’s worked hard to make the Angel a welcoming and excellent venue. It doesn’t feel like a chain, the staff really make a difference I will be a regular customer now

We had a wake here and honestly couldn't fault it, the prices good, the food was great and plenty of it and the guy who served the food (think he was the chef and maybe even the manager/owner) was really kind. The place got very very busy as the day wore on so clearly lots of others share a good opinion too. The garden was nice and the pub itself spacious. Would definitely recommend

I am new to the area and it is the first time I have been to the angel, from when we entered we where treated amazingly by the staff Nick and Sarah and both where really happy to help will be returning for sure in the future.

The food was really nice but the service was terrible took too long to be given my food. The service does need to be improved.

Not bad, friendly place. Beer garden is big, the building is very old and full of character. Food was just fine. Good place to spend a Saturday in the sun.

We went to The Angel in Broomfield. What a change to how it was the last time we went there, a few years ago. We were welcomed by the barman. (It seems the staff are all different, as well as the furniture layout.

Was very disappointed with the chicken and bacon and salad , avocado was Slushy was not the best dish at all

I visited the Angel with my Mum for a roast on 7th July 2024. We had lamb and beef and both were delicious. The portion is rather large and I didn't think I would manage it all but it was so nice, somehow I squeezed it in along with dessert! The pub had a lovely atmosphere, was clean and welcoming. Steve, our waiter was friendly, helpful and had a lovely sense of humour! We will be back! Thank you.

Popped in here after a upsetting/frustrating hospital appointment. Pleased to say the lunch deal didn't disappoint and we left extremely full & much happier than when we went in! Staff were attentive, prompt & knew what was suitable for vegans (their hot chocolate mix has milk in it which they made me aware of when I ordered that - instead I had a chai latte with oat milk, yum. Also confirmed the triple cooked chips were ok as cooked separately). Arancini was delicious, as was the curry - and mini crumble with vegan custard. Also appreciated that my request of pineapple juice with no ice cubes was listened to (so many places don't & I end up trying to fish the cubes out/with a watery drink grrrr!!) The pub has a welcoming feel (including to dogs :-) was nice and clean, music not too loud, comfy seats, and had interesting features.

We went here for birthday drinks. We were served by Emily and Sarah...Emily made sure all our food came out quick and Sarah made all our cocktails...the best is the pineapple spritz

We hadn't been to this pub in many years and fancied a different location to our regular haunts. We arrived to a mostly empty carpark on a Saturday evening and wondered if we had errored. From walking in we were greeted and taken to our table. What was apparent straight away was they they were operating with reduced number of staff on hand. It can be said that the service took a while. It wasn't anywhere near as bad as another restaurant I have visited in the area, but it was slow. However, the quality of the service was excellent and attentive. We didn't feel like we were forgotten at any point. The quality of the food when it did arrive was likewise excellent. We had the signature burger and the gammon steak, both were very nice. The only comment I would make here is that the mini pudding was almost as big as a normal pudding, that was likewise very nice. Cost wise, this is only slightly less than some of the more premium chain pubs. So, it was key that the quality of the food was good and the service was attentive. The pub itself feels a little run down in places and finding the restrooms is a little adventure!

We visits the Angel in Broomfield on Father's Day. It was surprisingly quiet but there was still a lovely atmosphere. Our server Sarah was attentive and professional. The food was also lovely, the starters on the set menu were a little limited. I was a little disappointed to over hear another server (not Sarah) talking about her breaks, well lack of, I hope this isn't true and Vintage in and the management are giving their hard working staff breaks!

Just returned from Dinner at the Angel. We had drinks , homemade pie &veg, and pizza. The Pizza was good as were the drinks, the meat pie sadly was more gristle than meat, 5 sizable pieces, we had what was edible and left the rest. I wanted to give feedback at the point of order at the bar, but nobody was manning it, we left without giving direct feedback so had to revert to this platform. The staff at drinks and food order were polite and friendly to finish on a positive. To follow, and thank you for your response, I have been criticised for heading to a public platform to give feedback, I did initially and promptly approached the point of order , thus giving you every opportunity to discuss my issue, you missed this as nobody was available, apparently to busy clearing drinks, changing barrels and running 2nd rate food. Let me tell you , your customers are in no way interested in how busy you are, what the customer wants is a product quality that has been paid for. It's interesting to hear that you turn this unfortunate episode in my fault entirely it seems. We won't return, and perhaps share our experience on other platforms. Again to finish on a positive your waitress was polite. Good day to you.

We visited as a family dinner of 8 guests for a birthday meal on a Saturday afternoon. Our gracious & "most accommodating host" helped us past floods & famine in providing us a enjoyable meal. Easily accessible venue on Broomfield Road in Chelmsford. Beautiful interior with exposed oak beams and an accessible upper saloon for larger groups. Ribeye steak with triple cook chips 2 × Pie of the day, chicken leak & pancetta Lasagna Buttermilk Chicken Burger Fish & Chips with mushy peas The Signature Burger Smoked Haddock & Spinic fish cake Sticky Toffee Pudding Vanilla Creme Brulee 3 × Honeycomb Dome Mango & Passionfruit Eton mess 2 × Mini Chocolate Brownie with coffee Witu both courses our plates were cleared of food each time showing our enjoyment with the meal. Although we sat indoors the outdoor seating looked pleasant in their garden area. A good time was had by all and we were glad we visited. A place I'd recommend to anyone local in the Chelmsford area.

Arrived on a Sunday afternoon for my auntie's birthday party. You think its a small country pub BUT its far better than that. Service was great. Food was excellent. Atmosphere was GREAT. our server, Steve, made the day. Attentive but not in your face. Didn't seem phased by my nephew using the floor has a racetrack for his new car.

Very nice atmosphere & staff. Gorgeous food, one of the best burgers I have had.

Starters: some of the calamari was cool but overall taste was good. Mains: steak was delicious. Sea bass tasted very good, nicely grilled, but sauce with beans was cold. Dessert: creme brûlée had a lovely texture but was served cold. Apple and blackcurrant crumble was superb. Thanks Steve for your wonderful service. We will be back for our 5th visit soon.

Arrived with two friends for lunch. We were seen to our table by a nice gentleman. Was very patient and gave us plenty of time to choose drinks and food. Hunters Chicken x2 Fish N Chips x 1 . Food and Service was excellent. With the sun beaming in was a very enjoyable lunch. Steve our waiter was friendly and happy.

My nephew and his wife took myself and my wife for an evening out. The Angel was chosen as its near their home. Great Food. Excellent Atmosphere. Good Service. lots of choices available. Unexpected visit to the Angel. Went with friends to celebrate their 42nd wedding anniversary. Atmosphere Service and Food were all excellent. Hats off to the chef as the Pork Belly was absolutely delicious. Well done to Laura and Steve for making it a great visit.

I recently dined at the Angel, and it was a delightful experience from start to finish. The ambiance was cozy and inviting, perfect for a relaxed evening out. As for the food, the fishcakes were a standout dish - crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and bursting with flavor. Our waitress, Laura, provided excellent service throughout the meal. She was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu, offering great recommendations and ensuring that our dining experience was seamless. Her warm demeanor added to the overall charm of the restaurant. We will definitely be back in the future.

I recently went there for a meal with my partner. Laura was our server, she was so friendly and guided us on what to eat as we were both unsure when we got there. I got the hunters Schnitzel and my other half had the gammon. It was delicious. We will definitely be returning.
