A friend and I stayed here for 2 nights. She booked the room through Airbnb, but communication prior to our stay was non-existent. Nobody replied to any messages that she left. The rooms are in a courtyard behind the pub, so it was very quiet despite being so close to the A39. Plenty of parking. We had 2 rooms with a shared wet room. Comfy beds and clean rooms although hot at night. Rooms a bit tired. Mine didn’t have bedside tables. Continental breakfast included in price, served in soulless room at back of pub. Cooked breakfast £6 extra.

Came for a long weekend with our dog. Although the room was clean & comfortable it was very basic for the cost, we could've stayed in a large chain hotel for less money. The bathroom was huge but lacked any shelving around the sink to put any thing. There was a shelf but at some point a bad repair had left it at such an angle that nothing stayed on it. Also there were no towel rails near the sink & the toilet roll holder was behind the toilet making it hard to access. All small things that make a difference. The other issue we had was with house keeping. The beds weren't made. Biscuits & water weren't replenished,( or loo rolls),& in a room for two there was only one teaspoon. This was rated as dog friendly but I would recommend you take everything you need for your pet as unlike previous dog friendly places we've stayed the only provision was a dog bed at extra cost.

We stayed here for 3 nights as a base for a long weekend at a good rate we had a large room with a very comfy bed. We had breakfast each morning and our tea each night both were lovely and decently priced. We felt very comfy in the bar as we were treated like locals by the staff as they were so friendly. The owners were lovely and are definitely in the right job as perfect hosts. We would highly recommend this establishment.

Stayed over last year and it was fantastic How things have taken a massive turn for the worse, the staff were ignorant and unhelpful, only interested in the handful of locals, even most of them have abandoned the pub for another We had just completed a 6 hour journey and ordered food from the sparse menu When it arrived the sausages tasted sour and had gone off the mash was a joke and the paltry amount of "real gravy" was old sausage fat in a jug. Needless to say we went hungry and when we complained the woman who appeared to be in charge just shrugged her shoulders and said "Oh !" and that was it, however the person in charge of the kitchen did offer us an apology and refunded our money We went off to bed tired and hungry, didn't sleep well as the mattress was like a board, didn't bother with the included breakfast as the previous showing of food put us off completely

Easy friendly check-in. The room was very spacious and spotlessly clean. The shower room was exceptional and again spotless. Lots of parking with easy access. The pub grub was very nice, but with limited choices. What let the accommodation down was the breakfast area. Very dour, uninviting, and cold. Has the potential to be a lot more comfortable. Personally, I would relocate breakfast to the pub area.

When you book a place online from afar, you always roll the dice a bit, but this time came up lucky. The old pub had plenty of history and atmosphere; the accommodations were in a new-built, separate annex behind the pub, so you get the best of all worlds. Room was large, clean, and comfortable. Parking lot was a huge bonus, as was the location—it is in a small, quiet ((and delightful) village, but it offers easy access to Exmoor, the coast, Glastonbury, and more, and is directly across the street from Coleridge’s Cottage. Breakfasts were cooked to order and were good (kitchen was closed for other meals when I was there). Everyone was friendly and helpful. Overall great stay.

How to wreck a first class reputation in 4 weeks.! No atmosphere at all, now shuned by locals, and it used to be packed over the weekend - now only a very small number. Gone are the days when it was a family friendly meeting place. What a great shame this has happened

Best to give this place a miss to be honest. The pub has a temporary manager who is trying his best but hasn't been dealt a good hand. We booked to stay at the Ancient Mariner whilst visiting the area. When we arrived we were told the pub no longer serves food and that there was a notice on the web site to that effect. There isn't. We were told to drive 1 1/2 miles to another pub for food where we would get a 10% disount. The rooms are in a stand alone refurbished stables type area - 9 in all. The rooms themselves are large with a well appointed shower room. The rooms are basic but comfortable, more than can be said for the super hard beds. Service from all staff was excellent but the place has a run down feel about it.

Stayed here overnight, the rooms were spacious and clean, the beds were comfy and I had a great nights sleep. I had dinner here in the evening after being recommended the chefs specialty dish by the young barmaid, the pork wellington, I decided to give it a go and it was the highlight of my stay. The pub itself had a lovely atmosphere great locals and very friendly service. Will definitely be back when I’m in the area.

The board had "today's special" only to be told not on Sunday so ordered the vegetarian option.....told it was nut roast only to have a bland and limited vegetable pie served..... so no protein. Just gave in at this stage as we arrived at 12.45 and food served at 13.45. Very basic vegetables and roast potatoes but not quite...and why serve Yorkshire pudding with my friend's chicken and my soggy "roulade" Not a repeatable experience

Stayed overnight here on way to Cornwall, on Friday, 15th August. Room was quite spacious, plenty big enough for us and pet dog with cage. Bathroom was also spacious, which was a wet room, ideal for disabled access, as indeed was the entrance door! Flat level access, car parked ten yards away, literally! Short walk to the pub itself, which provided a scrumptious evening meal, and beers at reasonable prices, not at all 'rip off' prices!!! Obviously to cater for the local community, who were very friendly and chatty. The village of Nether Stowey is very nice, well worth a longer stay than we had unfortunately!! Breakfast was more than adequate, and very quickly served up, along with full English, juice tea coffee etc, with cereal fruit and yogurt options. Highly, highly recommend! Hopefully we will return one day, it is ten miles from the M5, but worth the effort to divert here for a stopover!! Large car park, and easy to find

Stayed here for one night to extend and break up our holiday from Devon back home to the Midlands. The room was clean, comfortable, quiet and had everything that we needed including a clean kettle, tea, coffee and bottles of water. The bed was clean and comfortable along with the bathroom which was a wet room. It was a dog friendly accommodation and couldn't smell that any dogs had actually stayed there. We didn't eat there in the evening due to having a big lunch in Minehead. My in-laws who were staying next door came over in the evening and we played cards and had nibbles. The room was spacious enough for that. The rooms are at the rear of the pub next to the car park and there ate public paths to walk the dog. The areas were clear of any rubbish and dog mess. Breakfast was btw 8.30 and 9.30am and was great. We had a sausage, cpl rashers of bacon, hash brown, baked beans, mushrooms , tomato, a fried egg and toast. We had no issues with the breakfasts being delicious and set us up for the day . There were apples, cereal and yoghurt if wanted along with juices and tea and coffee. Would I stay again, oh definitely. Thanks for a lovely stay.

The Ancient Mariner was vey welcoming. The B&B accommodation, which consists of what looks like a row of charming cottages, is quiet and really comfortable. There was a large walk in shower in the ensuite, the beds were comfortable and everything was beautifully clean. My partner is disabled and the Ancient Mariner suited us very well. It is obviously a great place for dog lovers too and we saw lots of people enjoying a stay with their very well behaved pets. The breakfast was amazing, lots of starters and a huge full English of egg, bacon, black pudding, hash browns, baked beans, mushrooms, tomato and sausage! There is lovely walking in the area and such a breakfast would set you up for the day. We shall certainly be coming again.

As the reception is at the end of a bar it was perhaps the best reception I’ve ever had… room key served with an excellent value ice cold half of San Miguel draft after a long drive. Room was clean, although remote control for tv is often over looked so I cleaned that on the teams behalf: ideally cotton ear bud to get between the buttons. Shower is slippery when wet but didn’t actually slip just warned. Breakfast in the morning ticked the box. Value for money was very good. Reason for visit: nearby wedding, other guests stayed in the village and we were picked up by wedding bus to take us to venue. Had a pint at the George inn too. Lovely experience. The young chap on the bar on Friday afternoon helped us out brilliantly and the manager who we saw then and again for breakfast was very accommodating to our gluten free needs. Coffee and biscuits in room and a massive TV. Comfortable bed. Would stay again.

Whilst the room was as expected we were slightly disappointed at the overall experience. We arrived just before 3pm and on entering the pub via the back door, found it completely empty. Calling out attracted no response so we finally gave up and left to go for a ride around. On our return we were told that the pub wasn’t open so we’d have to go up the road for a meal, which meant yet another road trip. Breakfast was fine but no alternative offered, and the ambiance left a lot to be desired as the pool table and darts board clearly showed it was the sports room, with a few tables and chairs dotted around . After a lovely, but tiring day out for my disabled sister, we decided to eat in the pub. We were immediately told that the entire specials menu was not available, which was a shame as I’d decided what I was having whilst looking at it for ten minutes the day before whilst in the empty pub! A young lad said he’d find us a table (in a half empty pub) and took us to a table completely hidden away from the rest of the pub. We then ordered our food at the bar, got our drinks and waited and waited for the food to arrive. Over an hour later the meal, which was perfectly cooked, arrived. Now, the friendly hostess couldn’t wait for us to leave and started clearing the table before we were finished. When we asked to see the desert menu, she disappeared, only to come back and say, the kitchen was closed… Again she cleared away our drinks glasses so we left feeling very uncomfortable. Breakfast the next day was just the same, it was almost as if we were outstaying our welcome. I know tourists are transient custom but we would have returned if we had received better service. Whilst the landlady was lovely, she was just too overworked to pay more attention to what her customers needed.

The room we had was in a block of similar rooms and of a high standard. Though be careful in the shower as it does become slippery (a warning notice by the bathroom was present). The breakfast room does need updating especially the tables that show signs of wear and were sticky to the touch. There was a lack of choice of food at breakfast and the quality of the food served should be of a higher standard.

There are only 2 Pubs functioning in the main village street , so my wife & I opted for the Ancient Mariner's burger dishes which came with salad , etc . These were just right for a Pub Lunch , as well as the spacious car park at the side & rear for your car . It is also dog friendly as we had one with us this time , & it's opposite Coleridge's Cottage (National Trust) . The village itself is delightful , & worth a visit in its own right .

Very clean & comfortable. Bedding was spotless as was the room & bathroom. Very pleasant & modern. We went in to the pub to eat and we’re served our food. Lovely home cooked meals. All served fresh & nice & hot! We stayed in there all night as the manager was doing some entertainment. Locals were all very friendly. Next morning after a lovely sleep we were cooked a lovely breakfast before we left. Staff were all lovely & seemed to have everything down to a Tee. Will definitely visit again. Well done. When I review places, I always consider how 'dog welcoming' somewhere is. We have an 11 stone, 23 month old St Bernard pub so we know the difference between dog welcoming and just dog friendly From the minute we walked into this pub, we got the warmest of welcomes from the brilliant Sara. Her attitude, her warmth, her people skills when dealing with anyone who came in, whatever the issue. were beyond her years and she was so professional whilst remaining smiley and positive Barnum was made to feel very welcome and not at all in the way (He is huge!) and we went back later in the week and received the same level of welcome and service. This is a really nice pub with good accommodation - the food is good basic pub food at a good price, something which is becoming difficult to find these days. The staff were very helpful with finding local places of interest. If you come here you must visit the old local second hand book shop the owner is great for a chat about local history and very interesting in himself.

Disliked · The room its self looked lovely. However that's where it ended. The underfloor heating advertised clearly didn't work. The room was freezing and the 2 fan heaters and extra duvet just didn't cut it.We had somebody elses food in the bedside table that had just been left. God knows how long for.The shower was and utter JOKE and completely dangerous. It was either scalding or freezing the only way I was able to use it after 25 minutes was like warm trickle. We didn't even bother using it the second morning. As it was pointless. As for the bed. The most uncomfortable nights sleep I've ever had. The 'king' bed was just two singles pushed together. No zip lock so ended up falling through the middle. Old used spring mattresses with lifeless pillowsThe breakfast was great but the timings are not. The basics of a bed and breakfast were not met here. No sleep and no nice shower.Never again.

I visited this pub when I stayed in Nether Stowey, it was such a warm friendly pub, the landlord, I think his name was Ian really made me feel welcome, very dog friendly place, I took my 2 dogs in with me and they were given lots of dog biscuits and fuss. I ate there too, very nice meal and at a reasonable price. The landlord brought my drinks over to me as I had the dogs, I think it was an excuse to make a fuss of them. Would definitely recommend it and would go again if I was in the area.

My wife and I stayed in one of the rooms. We were pleased to see that the pub still serve food on a Sunday night & the food is good. However, the puddings are worth travelling for.

2 night stay to attend a nearby wedding. Lovely old pub with about 12 rooms built round a little courtyard. All single storey, large rooms with big wet rooms. We only had breakfast at the hotel but food was good and staff very friendly and chef accommodating. Best of all, I left my tablet behind and the lovely staff found it and sent it on to me refusing any offer of payment for postage.

Came across this pub by chance as our air bnb was close by and it was lovely. The staff were so lovely and friendly and made us feel really welcome, especially as we are not local. Really good pub food, good quality selection of drinks. If we’re ever around again we will 100% be back.

First saw this place about four years ago but the Coleridge Museum was closed so we kept driving. Got back to England two years ago and got there on the right day! Saw Coleridge's house, ate in the pub, and stayed in a beautiful room. Room was spacious and unique, clean, quiet, and just walk on a little path and you are at the pub for breakfast. VERY convenient. Just from reading the previous posts, I am very sorry if they have started serving junk like pizza. We had good food. Fish and chips, Full English, etc. Beautiful setting near the sea--what more could you want? There is nothing like this in the USA, obviously and we want to go back.

Our 2nd visit and still impressed. It’s a perfect stop over place for us and our dogs. Rooms are huge, bed is huge and very comfortable. Staff polite and friendly. Dinner was fab, breakfast was fab too. I don’t understand all the bad reviews about this place. We travel a LOT and have stayed in many many hotels, B&B;’s etc. Pop along and see for yourself. We will be back.

I stayed here a few nights back because of working in the area, the pub is located in a lovely village. Upon arrival the staff were very nice and I checked into my room easily enough, the room was very spacious and had everything you needed, it was clean and tbh I couldn’t fault it. The only thing letting this place down is the food, it was awful, I ordered a pizza which was apparently “freshly prepared”, it was basically a £1 frozen margarita with a few toppings added and they charged £12.50 for it, wouldnt even give it to my dog, my colleagues food was also disappointing. Anyway we woke up and thought maybe breakfast is a bit better, we was wrong, it wasn’t that great at all, cheap products, cold and stale toast. It’s such a shame because it’s a beautiful little pub with great accommodation, but they need to sort the food out ASAP and they are onto a winner.

We visited this pub twice whilst staying in a cottage in the same village. Both times we had a warm welcome & very much enjoyed our evening.

Booked a table at short notice, very welcoming friendly atmosphere with cheerful staff. Everything we ordered was available including the vegetarian options, arrived in good time and was of reasonable quality and value for money. Several real ales to choose from along with the usual collection of lagers. The local scrumpy was slightly scary but after the first pint the evening went warm and fuzzy :)

We enjoyed our evening meal in this pub/restaurant. The menu is typical pub food but well cooked and presented by obliging staff and the atmosphere was warm and friendly and the lager cold! Service was good and the waitress very pleasant. What more can one expect from a village pub? Well worth a visit if in the Quantocks with delightful walks nearby.

We dropped by for a coffee. It's well located opposite Coleridge's house, is a very good looking place with a classic English Bar appearance inside and has a lot going for it. Service, however, was a bit lackadaisical, with one member of staff leaving us hanging around whilst doing nothing in particular but claiming to be 'on housekeeping' when making a coffee wouldn't have been too difficult, whilst the other on duty had a queue of people to deal with. It could have been so much better.

I like Blackmore Farm tearooms usually but today service was poor. Ordered 2 flat white coffees both lukewarm. Also ordered 2 cream teas, since when does a ceram tea come with no tea? If the assistant had said I needed to order tea separately I would have. I'd finished my scone before knowing. Spoilt the experience.
