We visited on a busy Saturday afternoon and even though we hadn’t booked we were able to get a table. The staff are excellent. We had the fish and a burger and onion rings. All good was hot and delicious. The fish was fresh and served with lovely homemade chips. Cannot fault this place and we will be back. They also have a van outside serving pizza, coffee and light bites. That looks good too. Highly recommend. Dog friendly in the restaurant and bar.

Called in on the off chance for lunch. Staff were very friendly and helpful. I had read some of the reviews and being a renowned “pie man” ( no puff pastry over a bowl for me) tried the pie!! Delicious best pie I have had for a longtime. My wife had fish goujons they were also delicious. The selection of brews was excellent so was able to have couple of pints of Butty Bach.

We booked a room at this pub to meet friends in the evening for a meal. The room was above the bar, tea, coffee, etc. supplied. Individual toiletries are provided, comfortable bed and some of the best pillows so comfortable. The room we had was at the front so you could hear the traffic and talking in the bar as they do turn the music of at 10pm but the noise level was ok and didn't bother us. The meal in the evening was outstanding the steak and ale pies were beautiful, all four of us enjoyed our mains and desserts. In the morning we had breakfast which you have to give your order in the night before, this was as lovely as the evening meal. We enjoyed our stay with you and all the staff were so friendly. My husband was so impressed that he stuck his head in the kitchen this morning to thank the chef. This pub does get busy, so book a table if you are planning on going. Our friends had a dog and this pub is dog friendly. We look forward to a return visit in the future

Second and last visit. First time in 2023 had a great lunch. Yesterday a year later:- dirty glass. Ice added when specifically asked No ice twice. The beef pie sounded awesome. However upon arrival, and without my power saw, I couldn't get through the at least thrice baked crust. I struggled and left most of the crust. As we'd complained twice already I couldn't face conflict again. Waitress Millie was delightful and suffered our gripes with a smile. Eventually when asked if everything was okay, I caved in and vented. She reduced the pie meal by 50%. Strictly the whole deal should have been scratched. I did say I was not going to share publicly but I changed my mind. (sorry Millie, wasn't your fault but at the prices charged id expect Egon Ronay or Michelin guide levels) They are losing customers with substandard food offerings. So well done Millie. Shame on chef, who wouldn't serve this to his family for sure.

I have never come across such a rude waitress as I did here. I was grunted at when I asked for more sauce, it seems we were an inconvenience just by being there. Was so looking forward to food, but that was average at best, the portions are tiny! They try to justify their prices by having everything sourced locally, I'm sorry but most restaurants in the area source their meat locally? I wouldn't mind paying if the food was nice, but it was extremely bland, meat was tough and hardly any of it. I think the staff would benefit from some basic hospitality training and had some lessons in basic manners. So disappointing, we will not be returning.

Came in after a short bike ride and it had been pouring with rain, a lovely young lady took pity on me as I walked it dripping. I just wanted a drink and Emily (the staff member) was so nice making sure I was alright in my sodden state. It makes a great difference when you use a place and the staff are so welcoming and a little concerned about old fools like me walking in soaking wet. Nice one Harvester Ancient Briton and more so nice one Emily and thank you.

Not having been to the Ancient Briton since under new ownership, we were looking forward to seeing what if any changes had been made to this charming pub. Indeed some changes have occurred which have not thankfully impacted on its delightful character. Having been seated at our table a very glum waitress took our drink orders and as they do not serve Chardonnay by the glass we chose to have a bottle of same to share between three. We also asked for a jug of water and some glasses, not difficult request you may think, however the glum unsmiling waitress was sadly challenged and deposited an ice filled pint glass with a set of tongs on the table. After much explication a jug of water and only one glass was provided. We chose to say nothing not wanting to embarrass the waitress. Food orders were taken, chicken curry for both my husband and daughter and chicken in a mushroom sauce for myself. It must be said that husband and daughter both enjoyed a plentiful meal and cleared their plates. Sadly my experience was far from enjoyable. The meal consisted of three very small potatoes, some very undercooked green beans, which were sampled by hubby and daughter who also found them inedible, a slightly overcooked chicken breast which had been cut in half, lots of pea shoots, and an acceptable mushroom sauce. The whole portion would not have been enough for a hungry child, and at a cost of £19 l felt justified in asking for more potatoes. Three more small potatoes were provided but l was informed that if l wanted better green beans it would take a further 10 mins to prepare. Not wanting to eat alone or cause a fuss l declined the offer and made do with potatoes and a small overcooked chicken breast for lunch. Glum waitress returned with the desert menu, my husband and daughter chose the chocolate brownie which was very good, l plumped for just vanilla ice cream, with which there was no issue. I am not a person who takes pleasure in complaining, but having paid £98 for a bad experience l hope that my review will go some way towards management ensuring polite happy staff and an equal quality in all the meals they provide. Lastly but importantly I wish to stress that I did not want or asked for a reduction in the cost of my meal, but an apology and a waitress with better training and people skills would have been very much appreciated.

Lovely pub with quality beer (although many taps were off hence the four stars). Food was high quality so much so we visited twice during our visit to Brecon Beacons. Makes a refreshing change to eat lovely food in a pub instead of microwaved food that some pubs offer. Staff were all friendly. Price was good. Nice atmosphere. Beautiful inside. Liked the table put aside for “locals” and the board showing locals who had passed away. Nice touch. Highly recommend.

Lunched here with my husband, we both chose the pie, I had mash and my husband chose chips, Pie served on creamy mash, sadly it was not. The mash was tasteless and watery, I added more salt but didn't seems to help. I didn't have one succulent piece of meat in my pie, to me the pastry didn't seem cooked enough, My husband said the chips were dry, but he did eat most of his pie. £40-00 including 1 pint and an orange juice does seem a bit pricey for a lunchtime meal.

Where to start! Well firstly the pub itself looks fabulous (inside and out) and with the backdrop of The Brecon Beacons it is situated in an idyllic location (we drove half an hour from Swansea to visit and it was definitely worth the drive). But the warmth of the welcome (and the warmth from the log burner!) made it instantly feel like home. The food was varied and excellent with the usual favourites such as burger and fish and chips plus the curry was delicious. Sadly, my appetite failed me on the dessert menu so I’ll just have to come back to sample that. The selection of beers (including two really nice local beers) was perfect, regrettably I wasn’t staying at the pub or I would have happily worked my way through the choice of beers. What really set it apart was the warm welcome from the locals so thank you to everyone who made us feel so welcome. Obviously a very special thank you to the amazing Kirsty who recommended it to us as it is an absolute gem. Now to the one and only bad point! That’s easy, it’s not my local pub and I so wish it was as it really is my perfect pub. I’m just going to have to find an excuse to travel the 170 miles to come back to it.

Our first and favourite meal while visiting the Brecon Beacons. We drove past this beautiful pub on route to our cottage while staying in the area and immediately checked the reviews. We were not disappointed. We popped in about 5:30 on a busy Friday night and they very kindly squeezed us in for a meal. We had the Camembert to start as a sharer - lovely with some nice bread and onion marmalade. For mains I had the lasagna which was the best I’ve ever had! I prefer more meat and filling and less pasta and this was exactly what I got, perfect portion size, with some salad and garlic bread. My son had the daily special of pork belly with black pudding mash, he finished his whole plate! And my husband had the steak. Everyone really enjoyed this meal, great bar service, the waitress was fabulous and the locals were very friendly and chatty. The dog was made to feel extremely welcome. Highly recommend.

Friday night - the pub was very busy, but it’s a really good atmosphere - make sure you book a table in advance if you want to eat here. The food was fantastic - we both had steak (cooked perfectly) and sticky toffee pudding / cheesecake for pud - all really done well. CAMRA award winning pub - we liked the variety of good ales. They also had a range of ciders and general well stocked bar. Breakfast was good quality and we felt looked after throughout our stay. I’d stay here again.

Not good value for money. Scampi and chips, a small portion - £16. Curry with rice, and a naan bread - £15.50, plus an extra £2 if you wanted half and half! £17.50 for a tasteless powdery curry, which appeared to have been reheated (chicken was dry and chewy). Elsewhere these would probably have cost £12 each and probably would have been of the same if not better quality/size overall. Used to love it here, albeit haven’t called in for a good five years. Used to be a cheap and Cheerful place for good home made pub grub. Maybe should have gone for a steak or some meat, probably would have been better, but with all options costing at least £20, and kids meals costing £7, it’s not family friendly cost-wise. Shame - won’t be returning for food, though probably still a good place to call for a drink after a day in the Beacons. Nice beer garden too, though I’d guess the food van is probably a tourist trap.

Don’t let the great external visuals and the comfortable interior fool you. This establishment lacks the ability to even serve pre prepared food to an acceptable standard. Had it not been for the congenial company we kept ,a ‘walk out ‘ would have been applied....

Food is amazing here and the staff is very friendly. We were late for our reservation, but they were kind enough to wait and serve us anyway. I loved the mushroom pie, it was an amazing vegan option.

We have been visiting The Drover's for around 25 years. As a full Family initially, now just the two of us. Peter and his Team never disappoint. The welcome is always friendly and we do enjoy a modest pre Lunch drink in the cosy snug out the back. The views of the river are spectacular. It was a bit chilly to be sitting outside on the balcony but one brave chap did take his coffee out there! The food, well, you can't call it 'just Sunday Lunch! It's a foodie treat! Plenty of beautifully cooked food. Always hot and tasty. The quality is certainly there as well. Cannot fault anything and the Sweets are to die for! The atmosphere is invariably pleasant. A good mixture of Walkers, Holiday makers and Locals. Thanks so much for everything over the years Peter. We're already in the process of booking next year's trip to Wales, so keep an eye out for an email soon!

Our first time here this morning. From the minute we walked in we was welcomed and seated. All staff were welcoming. Myself and fiancé ordered a full English, food was lovely not one fault and clear plates. I had a cappuccino which was tasty and perfect. We were approached and asked if everything was okay during our meal. We paid with cash and left a tip as we were very pleased. We will definitely be attending again on our next stay.

Great place to stay. A friend and I cycled to the area and stayed here overnight. The owner is very accommodating and friendly. The room is a generous size with all the facilities you would want, and you have access to an outside deck area with lounge chairs and table which is ideal on a sunny day. The breakfast was also lovely. The location was great as it’s a 5 min walk from 2 good pubs and a post office/shop

Mock timber frame manor house retaining much of its character and charm. No lifts. Breakfast was choose your own pre-packed cereals with a cooked option. Dinner was a mini-taster with delicious options which we watched cooked on TV cameras. The room was clean but dated with an en-suit crammed in. High windows restricted light and views of extensive gardens and river. The staff were friendly and willing but lacked service training. Guests our age do not wish to be called 'you guys'.
