Very disappointed no atmosphere felt cold, got there at 9 mins to 2. Albeit food till 2pm wanted soup and sandwich but was told the chef had already closed the kitchen. I had a black tea which had a coffee taste. Husband had a pint which was cloudy and of poor quality. Would avoid this place at all costs. Everything you don't expect in a pub.

Staying locally so booked here for Dinner. Right on the river, which is lovely. Inside its nothing to right home about, I even started to question why my husband had booked this. We waited a while to be served, in fact, others came in after us and were served before us, this is something I don't like. Tried to order steak but was told they didn't have any, so got 2 x burgers, 1 x fish & chips and 1 x steak/kidney pie. The food came and the portions were huge and the food was gorgeous. Devoured and enjoyed by all, we were too full for desert but the kids had some and again, supersized portions but very good food and reasonably priced. One point to note was that we were with 2 kids (12 & 9) and the room they sat us in also had a large group of young drinkers, which were loud and swearing, nothing wrong with this in a pub, but its a bit different when eating with kids. If we were in the area we would definitely visit again.

Just had the best Sunday dinner yet from the anchor hotel and I have had a few . Good quality and massive portions, I couldn’t eat it all , My waitresses today Elise and Maddison were absolutely fantastic, they were very professional . The dinning room was very clean and tidy ... and most of all the anchor is still giving us fantastic value for money. Well done anchor hotel

We are here on Monday evening and had a delicious meal. Started with shared nachos and then I had a special of chicken breast with dauphinoise potatoes and hubby had the steak and ale pie. The chicken was moist and tasty and the dauphinoise and other vegetables were perfectly cooked and delicious. Gravy was served separately in a sauce boat! The pie was fantastic - big flaky pastry crust on top of a pan filled to the top with big chunks of meat and mushrooms. So many times have been disappointed with poor fillings at other venues - only a few pieces of meat swimming in gravy - but this was exceptional! And tender too! Served with chunky fries and vegetables - hubby couldn't finish them! We had a glass of wine each and hubby also had a pint. Came in at under £50 - well worth it. Staff were great. Only negative was that it was a little chilly - extremely cold night outside and we ate in quite a large room. Not a lot of people on a Monday in February! However, would recommend. There is outdoor seating overlooking the river which would be fab on a warm evening...

We found this hidden gem after finding our usual Sunday lunch haunt in Corbridge fully book. We were driving through Haydon Bridge, and spotted the hotel over the river. When we went in we were met at the door, and walked into the bar area, and then to a table over looking the river. We order 2 adult Sunday roasts and a child’s Sunday roast. The meals were brought to us quite quickly, along with two absolutely huge service bowls, one with mash and roast potatoes and the other full of carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, green beans and baby sweet corn. Far too much for 3 people, basically it was all you can eat! The food was all fantastic, and we will most definitely be visiting again, though only on a warm day as it was very cold on the Resturant.

We were placed in the dining room (snug) to the left of the bar with the fire burning well very cosy! We all had the hake - 2 with crushed potatoes pesto and 2 with white wine sauce and tempura prawns. All really good and very big portions!! The staff were just so good. We were very well looked after and can’t wait to return.

Extremely disappointed in the Sunday lunch we had today, food not cooked properly. Frozen and raw Yorkshire pudding, the pictures below is ment to be stuffing (we think) which did not have a taste and had a strange texture (even the dog would not eat it. Clear to see most of the meal had been microwaved, after making a complaint the chef sent a waitress to tell us that the food was fine. The poor girl was terrified and told us she was going to get the blame for the poor food standards, no clear pricing and staff seem unaware of the basic information. The establishment boosted the Sunday lunch was legendary, clearly it ment it was legendary bad. If you want a nice Sunday lunch DO NOT visit here. We will definitely won't be going back!!!!!!

We could see the Anchor restaurant from our guest room window at The Railway and were attracted to its outdoor deck on the river so strolled over for dinner one night. The pub was very tired looking so, for a moment, we were expecting dinner to be mediocre. We couldn't have been more wrong! The food was both beautifully presented and delicious! I had salmon and my husband had mushroom pasta. Both of use uttered several "yums" while cleaning our plates. Dessert of syrup sponge with custard was also tasty and nicely presented. I was thrilled to have my favorite ice cream (mint chocolate). This place is much better than it looks and sitting outside by the river on a beautiful night was a bonus. Definitely recommend!

We came hear for a quick one course family meal on holiday. The venue is nice, and we could sit inside with a view of the river (if the weather had been warmer outside was available too). The menu looked fine and we were pleased that in addition to the children's menu there was an option to have some adult dishes in smaller portions for children. The restaurant was fairly empty so we didn't expect a long wait but we waited atleast 45 minutes for the food to come. When it finally came (with no apology for the delay implying it must be the norm) the food was a very mixed bag. The ribs were really delicious, a lovely sauce and succulent meat. The pizza was (in the words of the children) "okay, but not the best we have had". Compared to the woodfired pizza available in the village every Thursday from a van (at comparable prices, if not slightly cheaper) it really wasn't comparable. My wife had the pie which was covered with a hard to eat pastry lid, and was really dissappointing. All in all it wasn't worth the wait or the money.

Called in here last week for a quick lunch, even though the place was empty it took over forty minutes to get our food. Gluten free menu is none existent , when I asked about it the young man said I could have sandwiches without the bread !!!!!!!! The fajitas without the wraps !!!!! In other words the only thing on the menu was a salad. I settled for tuna Nicosia. The tuna was nice but the salad was served with drab leaves going brown in edges, the cherry tomatoes were in fact what seemed to b a beef tomato cut into big chunks which were too hard. The dressing was nothing but vinegar and too much of it filling bottom of bowl. My husband said fish and chips were nice but son said the burger s tasteless and could not taste the blue cheese that was supposed to be on. All in all not a great lunch and they need to get up to date with people's dietary requirements .

We chose to have lunch at The Anchor as we had visited a couple of years before and remembered the food was good. It's a very short detour off the A69 if you are visiting Hadrian's Wall. The inn/hotel is at one end of a beautiful stone bridge over the South Tyne River river. It was very quiet - trade has probably suffered as a result of the by-pass. I'm sure the very friendly locals who were sitting at the bar were the same ones we saw on our previous visit! The staff are friendly and delivered our drinks to our table as we perused the menu. We chose the Breakfast Muffin - a tower consisting of a huge mushroom, slices of beef tomato, bacon, sausage and delicious black pudding, all topped off with a fried egg. It was delicious! This is not fast food - it was all freshly cooked and our wait of about 20 minutes was definitely worth it.

That's ok..... it IS a local pub and looks to be populated by locals..... but it does look a bit frayed at the edges. We had Sunday lunch, that being all they seemed to be serving..... and it was ok....just ok. A decent amount of meat on the plate and a great wedge of stuffing which seemed to have (what appeared to be) pork within it. None of the party were very keen on the stuffing.....or the large Yorkshire Pud that was also there (although I felt the Yorkshire wasn't bad....a bit doughy perhaps, but ok)

We were attracted to The Anchor due to its position and views from its outdoor seating area, which overlooked the river. I only ordered a glass a water and I was disappointed. There was a lipstick stain on the glass, it was so fresh that I could see the colour of it and the indentation of the lips details. The glass under further examination had other smears around the lip of the glass, which I find describing may lower the hygiene rating of the Anchor dramatically. You are probably wondering the meaning of the title, well there was a lemon pip in the bottom of glass, however the scary thing is is that I didn't even have a lemon... So god knows where the pip came from. I have come to the conclusion that the glass was not washed, and for a restaurant which if I recall after researching already correct me if I am wrong has a hygiene rating of 3 already, surely the inspectors didn't check the glasses for lipstick stains and random lemon pips. I am probably viewed by many as overreacting, however, how difficult is it to wash a glass? Do they know dishwashers exist? Anyway it has great potential and it's shame that after this incident I would not dare to eat here.Just to note I did enjoy the water better directly from the original bottle :)

Called in for mid-week lunch. Menu is not very veggie friendly but helpful staff tried hard to find something for a vegan and provided an imaginative mixed salad (definitely not your average pub salad!) Well presented.

How to start, do I begin with the good or the bad. I think I'll start with the good. This is a complicated establishment offering fabulous food, a strong menu, reasonable ale, a wide selection of spirits, accomodation, it is well liked by locals and visitors, some great service and a friendly welcome. Now for the bad, the toilets are perhaps not checked as often as they could be, leading to some unfortunate sights & smells. There are often not enough staff on, for such a busy pub. On two occasions there were only two servers on duty, and one of them was also doubling up to serve customers at the bar. There was also one evening when I went in, where I was frankly forgotten about despite having picked a table in line of sight of the bar, no one came to take my order, then served me the wrong beer, then asked me to move before I had finished. I noticed that some of the girls were clock watching.. hoping to be out the door before 9pm. If this had been my only experience of this pub I would not have visited again, but it only happened on one occassion.

Had lamb hot pot whch was very nice and served in small aluminium casseroles which were attractive and kept the food hot. A good range of beers and good value food made for a pleasent meal. Service was friendly but very slow, but as the restaurant was spacious and quiet we were quite happy to relax and wait with our beer.

Both had pies, they were fantastic. Food all prepared fresh and you can tell. If we lived in the area this would be my favourite place to eat

Lovely food and great service in family friend restaurant. Ate in the snug area off the main bar/ restaurant which was quieter.

Food is great-- my wife had a bacon and brie burger that was quite generous, the starters were tasty and the brew and cider selection was great. This area is central to Hadrian's Wall's best hiking and attractions, that this would be a great place to end a day. I'd like to go back and try more items.

My partner and I dined here on two consecutive nights. We returned for the second night because we'd enjoyed our food on the first night and whilst the atmosphere was a little noisy it was tolerable. Our second visit was tortuous. The noise level from other groups was so bad it was impossible to have a proper conversation. The atmosphere got even worse when the licensee allowed in a coach load of rugby players. Their behaviour was atrocious and the licensee was clearly more focused on the money they were putting behind the bar than in maintaining public order and decency. The drinking games became increasingly raucous; we left without buying dessert just as they started to strip off!!!! The waitress apologised for the noise, but this did nothing to repair a thoroughly spoiled evening.

Called in for lunch, there was only 3 people in when we arrived but took 45 minutes for our food to arrive. The waitress was lovely we ordered scampi but when it arrived it was so well cooked it was difficult to put a fork into it without it flying of the plate so we used our fingers. The chips were lovely big and chunky. I think it would have been better if the bandit was in the main bar area as all we could hear was the noise of someone playing it. All in all disappointed .

I have just returned with a headache from one of the worst restaurant experiences I can remember. We reserved a table at the Anchor Hotel in preparation for a good meal and relaxing night. Unfortunately what I experienced was food of average quality ( salty chips and a small flaky fish). My experience was not helped by several large groups of males competing to make the loudest noise possible. This was at 8:00pm, I am sure this will have increased by closing time. I cannot fault the waitresses who apologised on numerous occasions, but I would approach with caution before choosing this restaurant for a quiet country experience.

Dropped in The Anchor on reccomendation of our B+B host. As he said , the pasta was a good size bowlful. It was the only vegetarian dish, but as it's prepared from scratch they were happy to do us two different dishes, both of which were tasty and plentiful. No longer hungry when we left! :-)

The Anchor was recommended to us as we were stopping at the hotel next door. I ordered the carbonara and honestly don't think I have had one better. The servings were large and very filling and I would definitely recommend eating here to others. We stayed for a few drinks afterwards and everyone was very friendly and welcoming.

We were staying in the B&B next door so popped in for dinner. It's very much a gastropub, and all our meals were pretty decent, and very filling. The sunset over the historic bridge outside was quite spectacular too

We had fish-and-chips and gammon steak. Fish could have been fresher and the gammon tenderer. Chips tasted like they'd been cooked in old oil. Nice spot by the river though and the service by charming young ladies was excellent.

Lovely pub / restaurant located in the village centre. Staff are friendly and helpful. Food is delicious and unbelievable value for money. Kids meals are huge! Our children liked it so much we went back two days on the run. Highly recommend.

I'm on record as having said on many occasions that if they awarded PhDs for scone-tasting, I should have a dozen. I've eaten scones in venues from the Orkney Islands to Australia and written about them in more publications than I could possibly remember. So, you can take my word for it that the freshly-baked, home-made scones (with butter and strawberry jam) at No.6 are quite possibly the best I've tasted in recent years. Cafe No 6 is a quaint place with a very atmospheric first-floor eating area, a delightful owner and staff who look like they are actually enjoying the job they do. My wife and I were just as impressed with the special 'doggy menu' on offer. We shall be back!

I’m so sad to see this lovely place closed. It had great staff and atmosphere and a fantastically good smoked haddock chowder. I wish its people all the best and I thank them for all the great visits we’ve had here. I really hope that there might be a replacement cafe of such quality. We’ll watch with interest.

We stopped by chance at The Percy Arms for a drink and ended up eating an amazing meal-Wednesday afternoon and very quiet but the food was delicious and the service excellent. The soup was very tasty and the steak cooked to perfection - we will return!

Having been for a lovely meal a year ago we promised ourselves Christmas lunch this year. It was not cheap - £240 for 2 but we expected a nice experience so didn't mind. On arrival I was offered a drink and a waitress on her way back to the kitchen offered a left over canape. They said they were bringing more out but these never appeared - my husband didn't get one at all. There was nowhere to sit in the hall and as I struggle to stand for any length I had to ask about being seated. There was nowhere to hang coats except on the back of the dining chair canteen style. Please note we had been to The Grand Tynemouth the previous day and coats had been taken and hung on a rail. The room was undecorated for Christmas and cramped. We were sat at a very feeble table that seemed to have been assembled that morning-very rickety. After about 10 minutes a bread roll was brought. Great we thought food is coming. 20 minutes later the starter arrived. Considering we had pre'ordered early in December it should have been more organised. The starter we chose -pate- came with a very strange slice of bread? That I can only liken to jamaica ginger cake - not at all compatible. Then followed a long wait for the plates to be collected. No sign of a drinks waiter we had been there almost an hour. We eventually caught a chap who had delivered drinks to a nearby table and he did serve us. Dinner finally arrived - and I can tell you it wasn't just us. We were all looking around wondering what was happening. Nearly 45 minutes later. The dinner itself was not pleasant and definitely not worth the £240 cost. The roasts were not crisp. The turkey appeared to be pressed meat. The stuffing seemed to be commercial rubbery type. To say we were disappointed does not overstate it. I wasn't prepared to wait another 30 minutes or more for a sliver of Christmas pudding. So we left. Eshott what were you doing??? The whole thing was a shambles and definitely not what we expected or anticipated. You didn't appear to have enough staff. You crammed too many people in and your chef must have had a day off. Ruined what we had been looking forward to.
