The Anchor Line in Glasgow City

Great night as usual, continued to deliver to a high standard.

A lovely fine dining restaurant in what looks like an old shipping office. The Lobster and King Prawn Bisque was sensational, one of the best I've ever had. The 1/2 Lobster and fillet steak was over the top but absolutely delicious. A good sized Lobster and a beautifully cooked piece of steak. My wife had Mussels starter and Salmon main course and loved it. Wines were excellent. Our only comment was we weren't given enough time between courses and would have probably had a dessert if we'd been given more time.

The best restaurant and cocktails in Glasgow in my opinion. The 1920s / 30s setting feels like you’re dining somewhere special. The food is always great and has a menu to suit any taste. We always go for the scallops and then the steak which doesn’t disappoint. Be sure to try the prawn mac and cheese as a side! It also has a separate bar which in my opinion does the best cocktails in Glasgow so it’s a perfect setting for a weekend dinner and drinks.

Food was at best average but the service was great, and was a lovely place to be in just food was just not worth the money

1st time here for lunch - food was absolutely delicious. The prawn & lobster bisque was amazing 👏 as was the lobster mac & cheese 😋 cocktails 🍸 were fab 👌 as well - only issue service was a bit slow but overall we had a great lunch.

Very well-kept restaurant that makes you feel good. It has that 1930s feel. Everything is high quality, but the prices remain reasonable. The bar: is so beautiful... just from another time.

Afternoon meal in the heart of Glasgow. We were promptly shown to our table, which was unfortunately not in a great position as I had a continual stream of customers and staff passing very close to my seat. If you get the chance opt for a booth. We ordered burgers, which were delicious and certainly home made. Portions are generous and you will certainly be well fed. The only problem we had was that one of our sides wasn't delivered, however we asked them to remove it from our order as we had more than sufficient. We will certainly return, but next time choose our seating in advance.

Great place with a really nice atmosphere. Food and drink were very nice although the waiter spilled a glass of Red wine onto our table and a glass of Prosecco all over the person I was with which wasn't ideal it was also quite cold at window area.

Not really a kids location, wasn't clear as we came looking for some good salmon after seeing previous reviews. Service was fine, portions were fancy and pricey wasn't terrible, but really only adult fare, even the Cesar Salad was a bit plain (even though it was stuffed with whole anchovies)

Absolutely loved this venue! Such a treat to experience the delicious VIP Menu, a 4 course meal which included a (large) cocktail. Bought this for myself and my husband courtesy of my favourite deal site, Glasgow based 'Itison', so we did not pay the full price. Everything from the friendly welcome on our arrival to a courteous and similarly friendly goodbye made us feel appreciated as customers. We would not hesitate to visit here again the next time we are in the city.

Very much with the times, food was good, and the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was sublime. Well worth a visit to this place.

Slightly disappointed with the quality of the food which was presented to us on this occasion. The Oysters and Scallop starters which were presented to us were some of the smallest seafood I’ve seen. The steaks were indeed well cooked as per request, however the hand cut chips that accompanied the steak were dry and grey in colour with a stale taste ! Come on Anchor line … if you command above average prices for food then above average ingredients should be used !!! The cleanliness of the toilet facilities were totally unacceptable, which remained so even after a report was made to a member of staff. If this level of cleanliness is deemed acceptable for public areas one can only wonder what the level of cleanliness would be elsewhere ???

Excellent food for a reasonable price . Service could not be better . I eat out only on occasion , but this is without doubt one of my favourite places to visit . Had an Itison deal for this visit , 4 courses and a cocktail for 2 only £55 .

Lovely restaurant in the centre of Glasgow. The staff were very attentive. We had a voucher from itison and it was brilliant. There were a good few things on the menu that could be made gluten free. Nice atmosphere and a lovely meal. Thank you!

Late afternoon lunch . Had the VIP menu. Four courses and a cocktail. The cocktail was delicious. After the cocktail the food arrived . It did not disappoint in any way. The food was great, a good portion. The staff were so friendly and helpful making sure your visit was relaxing and inviting. No complaints at all ...ok only one I had to leave . I will definitely return to sample more cocktails and of course the food .

Most delicious meal and cocktails

Really disappointing service and attitude from staff and we were hurried out of the restaurant with lights switched on at 10.45pm . Went there a week ago Thurs , won't be back !

Outstanding value for money. The place was mobbed, but the staff were excellent. Service and quality 1st class. I would be happy to go here every week.

We really enjoyed our experience. Veg curry with prawns and salmon with polenta. Both dishes very tasty. Service superb. We will certainly return.

We popped in here while out a walk in town and it was absolutely stunning Service is top class and as expected so was the drinks and oysters Only wish we found it earlier on walk as we couldn't stay longer. My first time trying oysters and loved them. We will be back for cocktails and oysters very soon. A great place in the heart of Glasgow

Went here just after Christmas for some cocktails. Didn't have a booking but they still managed to find us a table. Really nice atmosphere and table service. Cocktails are really good with some classics and specials.

Overall disappointed. Had only been once before and it was excellent. This time there were a few issues. The table we were sitting at was draughty. We ordered bread to share as a starter and fish and chips. The bread arrived quickly but before finishing the first slice the main course arrived. The fish was excellent but the chips tasted like they had either been reheated or kept warm. We were going to stay for a drink but decided to go elsewhere. For a special occasion it was a bit of a let down.

One of the best meals I've ever had. The chateaubriand was unbelievable.

Lunch in a fabulous room, with lovely atmosphere and good service. Lobster bisque best I’ve ever tasted, and pretty good wine list. Not cheap, but an opulent venue, perfect for a posh meal.

Went here for festive lunch. One of the more expensive options so had a certain level of expectation around how good it would be. Service was fairly slow, with the first course not coming till more than an hour after we arrived. Food was fine but nothing exceptional. My starter (prawn and chorizo) was a relatively small portion and the "king" prawns were tiny. My main (salmon) was nice but for the price I would have expected some kind of sides to compliment the meal. There wasn't even any bread for the table. Clootie dumpling was nice. A lot of my party had the chocolate tart but no-one was able to manage more than about 2 spoonfuls as it was too rich. Nice enough restaurant but I won't be rushing back.

Fantastic service great atmosphere

Nice place with great atmosphere and ambience. Only hiccup was I felt was the service from one of the maitre'd who didn't explain the booth's being reserved for overspill of Xmas dinners. I would return though.

Pity the piano player was playing "Rock and Roll Christmas" by Gary Glitter. Oops!

Simply the best bar and restaurant in Glasgow .. simple!

Xmas dinner with colleagues, and we were not disappointed. The food was absolutely amazing and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Host at front door was quite dismissive, waiter came over to take us to our table. No chat from host or to say thanks enjoy your night, small gripe but nice to be acknowledged. Food came out very quickly, not much time to sit and relax with drinks or in between courses, seemed very rushed. Scallops very small and were slightly undercooked. Not much colour on them and were cold inside. Bearnaise sauce with steak was refrigerator cold, understand is shouldn't be hot as it will split but even warm would be nice, putting cold sauce on hot food not great. Laurent Perrier was not served on the trolley as advertised, which would've been nice as we were celebrating a birthday. Had to flag down a member of staff to order wine with our mains. Busy time of year I appreciate but shouldn't be a reason standards slip.

3rd visit at the Anchor Line during the festive season with a group of friends and like the previous occasions was first class service and food. Highly revommend

Attended this establishment on Monday 11 th December , for my daughter’s graduation lunch. From start to finish , I loved every second of my time in there. Very classy , great service from all the waiting staff, and the food was excellent. Fish and chips was the best I’ve ever had… absolutely delicious. In fact … four of my family, who also had the fish and chips ,said the same thing. My three daughters had the Mac n cheese, salmon and fillet steak, they all said it was delicious. Can’t wait to get back here very soon. Keep up the great work. James Spence.

It was way to busy for us but great for them..

Everything was great about this place apart from it being freezing. When we asked our server why it was so cold she said we had to expect it as it was such a big building and offered us a cup of tea. The place was packed and if anything it should have been warm. Server also said everyone complains about the cold. I would avoid in winter

Festive menu today. We chose ‘King’ prawns with chirizo for our starter. I think the ‘king’ should be removed. Very small prawns and the sauce was watery. The rest of our lunch was really lovely. Frequent visitors to this beautiful restaurant and will return, disappointing today though

The Anchor Line is a lovely, warm restaurant in the heart of Glasgow. The food was delicious, Steaks and Salmon for the meat and fish eaters and a fantastic Plant based burger and pasta for the vegans! All round it is an atmospheric restaurant with great service and delicious meals!

Pure quality food and very friendly staff . the carrot and ginger soup was amazing also the pork loin melts in your mouth.10/10

A beautifully warm and cosy atmosphere.

Not an extensive menu but covers all the bases.Food is well prepared and presented. Staff and service are exceptional. Lighting was very dim to the extent that I had difficulty reading the Wine list but the waitress was keen and able to help with a choice that went well with the food we had ordered. Location is great for public transport, bus and train are less than 5 mins to the door. Booking is essential at the weekend.

We had the most enjoyable experience here. Warm welcome from the service team, amazing ambience and the food is to die for! Prices are standard and the whole evening made it worth it. Will definitely come back.

We didn't have food just drinks but staff always checking in on us, and Piano being played in the background gave it a ideal place to have a catch up with friends.

What a brilliant restaurant. A central location in Glasgow City. Ideal for us out of towners. The atmosphere is awesome, the food, drink and extraordinary service create a most memorable dining experience. Our group of 4 chose different starters and mains, ALL were quite outstanding. The accompanying wines were excellent in quality and price. Unusually we each decided to try desserts and as with the previous two courses we were not disappointed. Highly Recommended and remember to book early.

Been several times for cocktails. You will struggle to find a better margarita. Not had food as yet but I've heard it is very good. The pianist adds a to a nice atmosphere and they open the windows on sunny nice days which adds to the atmosphere. Highly recommend. Thank you

Hoped to visit the bar at 6.30 on Saturday for a special cocktail before heading to an anniversary dinner at Ho Wong. Straight from home, stone cold sober and well dressed for a 50th wedding anniversary, for the second time in two months!! The intimidating door staff refused my wife and I entry as ‘The bar was too full’ after looking us up and down. We went downstairs to The Atlantic for a drink. At which point my wife went up the back stairs to check the Anchor Line bar only to find many empty tables. Based on this fact I feel that we were victims of discrimination by the highly unpleasant door staff. Absolutely shocking that this still happens. I would be very interested to hear a managers response?

I worked here for a few days. Unfortunately, my Muslim and Polish co-workers discriminated against me because of my homosexuality, so I left. I was supposed to receive my salary on the 23rd. No money came. I wrote to the company. They didn't waltz. I am now turning to Citizen Advice. The head chef tried to persuade me that I could leave freely and he was trapped with his 150 km body. I tried to look back at the cctv in the kitchen, but this was deliberately refused. The general manager didn't do anything either. Pathetic. Discrimination and physical rain in 2023 in Scotland by Muslims and Slavs!

Took my friends who were visiting Scotland and staying with me, to the Anchorline for a Sunday roast today. The food was exquisite, the cocktails equally so and the service, impeccable. Our waitress Chelsea gave a diamond service.

Amazing restaurant, lovely attentive staff. The bar do need to learn how to make an authentic White Russian... I paid £10 for milk and vodka over-iced shaken up with a sprinkle of chocolate. No kalua, no separation, no cream. Very very bland indeed. I would expect the best at that price, and in such a fine establishment. Next time.

2nd trip. Both times were great. Mushrooms to start. Pork line for mains. Good portions. Lovely staff.

Terrible beer and rude service . Avoid .

Been here twice recently and each time the food and service has been impeccable. Every dish we had was delicious - portions are generous so we were (nicely) stuffed after 3 courses (our voucher also included an amuse-bouche and cocktail both of which were just as good as the main event). Food was hot, fresh and tasty, and the cocktails were great. Every staff member we encountered was so friendly. Would highly recommend a visit.

We were so disappointed with our meal! Our family had travelled from all over Scotland and the menu looked great, however the food was awful! Mussels starter came out cold (like the mussels were frozen) 2 couples had chateaubriand and the meat was horrible, the strangest consistency and taste, the macaroni cheese side was floury and inedible and the hand cut chips were soggy and floury. The garlic butter tasted burnt. The duck liver parfait tasted of nothing! We sent lots back and complained. The only reason I gave this 2 stars instead of 1 is because they discounted our bill. It was incredibly busy and I just don’t think they were able to cope. The food needs vastly improved but I doubt we would ever go back. Such a shame that this large city centre restaurant was such a let down and there are so many better restaurants nearby. I felt bad that I took my family here. We all left hungry!

10th Anniversary Celebration meal and drinks with my wife. We have visited the Anchor Line previously and chose it for our special meal due to the guaranteed quality of food, drink and service. The Anchor Line didn't let us down. Right down to our vast selection of cocktails..... including the amazing Caramel Pineapple Daiquiri Thanks Anchor Line !

Amazing cocktails, lovely staff and great atmosphere

The history associated with this place is really cool. The pictures show lots of folks who started their trips in Glasgow off to NYC at the turn of the century. Additionally, the food and service here are really good. They make a decent drink here as well.

We had dinner for 17 for our wedding dinner , anchor line was amazing. Food , atmosphere and staff all 10/10. Kids menu was also fantastic . Everyone had the best time , thank you. We will be back soon.
